Bitcoin miners generate $1.4 billion despite 36% BTC slump

Bitcoin miners generate $1.4 billion in May’s revenue despite 36% BTC slump

With bitcoin experiencing a price correction of almost 50% in May from the all-time high, mining revenue was expected to take a significant hit. However, contrary to expectations, the revenue has shown resilience.

Data acquired by Finbold indicates that bitcoin miners earned $1.45 billion in May, dropping only 15.01% from the April figure of $1.7 billion. The revenue dropped slightly considering bitcoin suffered a significant price correction of about 36% in May. Between March and April, the revenue slightly plunged 2.5% from $1.75 billion to $1.7 billion.

Over the last three months, the highest daily bitcoin mining revenue was on April 15th at $77 million. The lowest returns were recorded on May 29th at $26 million.

Continued crackdown likely to impact bitcoin mining revenue

In May bitcoin faced increased scrutiny over the carbon footprint debate, something that was expected to significantly impact mining revenue. According to the research report:

“The bitcoin mining revenue is encouraging considering that the industry has witnessed a decline in profitability over recent years. However, with the regulatory crackdown on mining, the industry risks slowing down on revenue since large-scale miners are mostly targeted by authorities.”

The focus on bitcoin’s energy consumption can potentially lower the interest from institutional investors who want to meet the needs of environmentally cautious investors. However, the emergence of renewable energy sources might tilt the tide. The research report notes that:

“With the increased focus on renewable energy for bitcoin mining, the asset might attract more institutions potentially sparking an increase in value and consequently the mining revenue.”

Regions like North America are taking the lead aiming to establish a bitcoin mining hub that relies on renewable energy.

Alice Coltrane - "Kirtan: Turiya Sings," from Tim Plumley from UMe for use by 360 Magazine

Alice Coltrane – “Kirtan: Turiya Sings,” – Release July 16

This summer, the world will finally hear an intimate, spiritual recording made by the godmother of spiritual jazz, Alice Coltrane. Recorded in 1981 and never shared in this form with the world at large, Kirtan: Turiya Sings is a stunning collection of nine devotional songs, featuring the never-before-heard combination of Alice Coltrane’s voice and organ. Kirtan: Turiya Sings will be available July 16 on Impulse! Records/UMe, as part of the legendary label’s 60th anniversary celebration.

Though known by many as the musical partner and wife of John Coltrane, Alice Coltrane is revered for her groundbreaking contributions to spiritual jazz with her legendary Impulse! recordings Journey in Satchidananda and Ptah, The El Daoud, among others. Throughout the 1970s, in addition to maintaining the busy schedule of a recording and touring artist, Alice Coltrane was immersing herself in Eastern philosophies, mythologies, and Vedic religious practices. By the early 1980s, she had become a guru and spiritual teacher and began to make music exclusively for her community at The Vedantic Center, northwest of Los Angeles.

The original recording of these songs, Turiya Sings, was released exclusively on cassette in 1982 for the students of the ashram. In addition to Alice’s voice and organ, the recording included synthesizers, strings, and sound effects. In 2004, Alice’s son and producer of this record, Ravi Coltrane, found mixes he’d never heard before of just Alice’s voice and her Wurlitzer organ. He knew this is what the world had to hear.

“In this setting I felt the greatest sense of her passion, devotion and exaltation in singing these songs in praise of the Supreme. In that moment, I knew people needed to hear Turiya Sings in this context.” Ravi continues, “as her son, growing up and hearing her playing these songs on the very same Wurlitzer you hear on this recording, I recognize this choice maintains the purity and essence of Alice’s musical and spiritual vision. In many ways, this new clarity brings these chants to an even higher place.”

The opening chords of Kirtan: Turiya Sings are a curtain opening into a realm of spirituality and devotion that only Alice Coltrane could conjure. This album is not jazz–it is not improvised. It is intentional, devotional, and spiritual. This music, sung in Sanskrit, is spacious and large, Alice’s voice has weight and power, her organ playing rock-solid, pulsing, a cauldron of musical influences you can hear from her life.

Ravi Coltrane summarizes the musical importance of this album best:

“On this album, your ear will be turned toward the sound of the blues, to gospel, to the Black American church, often combined with the Carnatic singing style of southern India. You will hear beautiful harmonies influenced by Alice’s Detroit/Motown roots, her bebop roots, John Coltrane’s impact, and her absorption of European classical music, particularly that of her favorite: Igor Stravinsky. Yet, at the same time, this is functional music. Its purpose is, with light and love, to praise the names of the Supreme. On this album, your heart and spirit will be turned toward divine inspiration and appreciation.”

Kirtan: Turiya Sings was mixed by Steve Genewick and mastered by Kevin Reeves from original 24-track masters. This is the same team that worked with producer Ravi Coltrane on Alice Coltrane’s last album, 2004’s Translinear Light. The lacquers were cut by Ryan D. Smith at Sterling Sound and pressed at Furnace. The album will be available on vinyl, CD, digital download and streaming, as well as hi-res streaming in studio quality sound, and can be pre-ordered here. Quincy Jones' The Dude Production shot via Juggernaut Sound

Quincy Jones – The Dude Reissue

In 1981, Quincy Jones released The Dude, a monumental pop-soul album created with a stellar cast of vocalists, studio musicians, and songwriters. Today, IGA (A&M) / Urban Legends is pleased to announce the 40th anniversary reissue of The Dude; available for pre-order now and available June 11, 2021. Featuring bold yellow vinyl with red/orange splatter, the limited edition 40th anniversary reissue also boasts a lithograph of the iconic album art, a gatefold jacket with foil finish, and newly remastered audio. A standard edition single LP is also available, featuring a tip-on gatefold jacket and newly remastered audio.

The Dude was a commercial success, spending 81 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and peaking at number three. It spawned three top 40 singles, including “One Hundred Ways” with James Ingram, which went on to become Jones’ single biggest hit as a solo artist. The Latin-inspired dance number “Ai No Corrida” and tender ballad “Just Once” also charted in the U.S., while the horn-driven “Razzamatazz” achieved Jones’ highest U.K. chart rank as a solo artist. Quincy Jones was awarded Producer of the Year at the 1981 Grammys. The Dude was nominated for five Grammys, winning three: Best Instrumental Arrangement, Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, and Best Instrumental Arrangement (Accompanying Vocalists).

About Quincy Jones

Jones‘ creative magic has spanned over seven decades, beginning with the music of the post-swing era, and continuing to influence today’s high-technology, international multi-media hybrids. Named by Time magazine as one of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century, Jones was born on March 14th, 1933, on the Southside of Chicago and raised in Seattle.

Jones won the first of his 28 Grammy Awards for his arrangement of Count Basie’s “I Can’t Stop Loving You,” and continued to work with Basie on Frank Sinatra’s classic Sinatra At The Sands, which contains the famous arrangement of “Fly Me To The Moon”: the first recording played on the moon by astronaut Buzz Aldrin, when he landed in 1969.

The laurels, awards, and accolades have been innumerable. Jones has won an Emmy Award for his score of the opening episode of the landmark TV miniseries, Roots; seven Oscar nominations; the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award; 28 Grammy Awards; a N.A.R.A.S.’ prestigious Trustees’ Award; and The Grammy Living Legend Award. He is the all-time most nominated Grammy artist with a total of 80 nominations.

In 2001, Jones was named a Kennedy Center Honoree for his contributions to the cultural fabric of the United States of America, and was recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts as a Jazz Master (the nation’s highest jazz honor). In 2010, Jones was bestowed the National Medal of Arts, America’s highest artistic honor, and most recently in 2016, Jones received a Tony Award for the category of “Best Revival of a Musical,” for the Broadway production of The Color Purple. The award completed the rare EGOT set for Jones: an exclusive subset of artists who have received an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award. There are only 21 EGOT recipients in history.

Volbeat – Wait a Minute My Girl & Dagen For

Multi-platinum Danish metal band Volbeat announces the debut of two new songs for Summer,  “Wait A Minute My Girl” and “Dagen Før.” The two tracks, the band’s first new music since 2019’s album Rewind, Replay, Rebound, were written and recorded while the world was in lockdown during the pandemic. Michael, Kaspar and Jon recorded their parts with long-time producer Jacob Hansen in Denmark, while Rob worked remotely from New York.

The band says about the songs: “As the weather begins to warm and the days get longer in many parts of the world, we wanted to share two songs that we wrote and recorded over these long, difficult fifteen months that have the vibe and feel of Summer. We’re beyond thankful that even during a lockdown our good friends Doug, Ray and Mia Maja were able to put the pedal to the metal with us on ‘Wait A Minute My Girl,’ and we’re absolutely thrilled that Stine Bramsen, who we’ve known and admired for a long time, was willing to lend her incredible talents to ‘Dagen Før.’ We hope you enjoy this double-barreled blast of Summer tunes as much as we enjoyed creating them, and we can’t wait for you to hear what else we have in store for you.”

“Wait A Minute My Girl” features saxophone player Doug Corcoran and piano player Raynier Jacob Jacildo, who both perform with JD McPherson’s band and previously appeared with Volbeat on 2019’s “Die To Live” (feat. Neil Fallon.) Singer Mia Maja, who has worked with the band since Seal The Deal & Let’s Boogie, also appears on backing vocals. “Dagen Før” features guest vocals from Danish artist Stine Bramsen, who is known for her solo work as well as being a member of the band Alphabeat. The song, in the tradition of “The Garden’s Tale,” “Maybele I Hofteholder” and “For Evigt,” features both English and Danish lyrics, and marks the first commercially-released song that features Stine singing in her native Danish.

About Volbeat

Since forming in 2001, Volbeat has gone from the clubs of Copenhagen to headlining stages around the world, including the famed Telia Parken stadium in Denmark (and becoming the only domestic artist to ever sell out the venue). Over the course of eight record-breaking albums the band has picked up number one songs (including eight #1s on the US Mainstream Rock chart and counting), multi-platinum certifications, awards and accolades (including a Grammy nomination) all over the planet. Their latest album, Rewind, Replay, Rebound, was released on August 2nd, 2019 and has spawned the hit singles “Last Day Under The Sun,” “Die To Live (feat. Neil Fallon)” and “Leviathan.”

A live album featuring songs recorded during the subsequent world tour, Rewind, Replay, Rebound: Live in Deutschland, was released digitally on November 27th, 2020. A vinyl-only bonus track compilation, Hokus Bonus, was originally made available on limited-edition vinyl on RSD Black Friday 2020 and will be available in a new, limited European version and a North American standard version on July 16, 2021. The band eagerly await their return to the road beginning this October with an appearance on Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, CA.

LESLIE HUNT – ASCEND

Leslie Hunt, Fan-Favorite, American Idol Semi-Finalist Makes Comeback

Singer, Songwriter, and Multi-Instrumentalist To Release New Album Ascend June 25

American Idol Semi-Finalist, Leslie Hunt, is not your typical vocalist. The captivating rise of Leslie Hunt, also District 97’s lead-singer, continues with Ascend, her brand new and exquisite solo Album with 7 enchanting tracks.

While exploring meditation, codependency, self-love and self-trust, loving others unconditionally, and many other rites of passage for an adult in constant pursuit of expansion, Leslie tells us that this album was written in a short span of time and greatly inspired by a series of new perspectives she had been cultivating throughout her years in the music industry, and her new guitar, a Gibson 60’s J-45.

On asking about what genre this album fit into, and whether or not it borrows from multiple forms, “I never question the muse when it visits and this body or work required a very natural sounding approach, like something you would hear coming out of Nashville, using rich, warm textures, and not a lot of extra production.” The singer songwriter finds it hard to classify her music, “but this album has a pretty classic rock feel to it, also incorporating some Americana vibes, in addition to the usual vulnerability you can expect from my music.”

  • Ascend offers seven superbly crafted songs, each one displaying honesty & grace, mixed with an impassioned beauty. These songs encapsulate life and love while affecting reflections on how we’ve all felt about it throughout our lives.
  • This album marks part one of this 2-EP set with another 7-Track EP, titled Descend, to be released on September 3.
  • Videos for the tracks Right Here, Down The Road, and There You Are will be released for Ascend. Listen to a preview of There You Are, a fresh, catchy, and memorable song.
  • Wolf Cried Boy acoustic video
  • From the successes of her three previous solo albums Wait for ItYour Hair is on Fire, and From the Strange to a Stranger, we expect nothing but greatness from these next albums!
  • As lyrics and melody are two of Leslie’s favorite aspects of songwriting, she loves to twist words into imagery that could be spun in a number of ways depending on the listener’s perspective.
  • Leslie states her upcoming EPs are her best work yet, “I’m very proud of how it came together, and the songs are a time capsule of my mindset in the spring and summer of 2019. I named it Ascend because I recorded it before everything was put on hold. The future seemed limitless, like a plane taking off into the sky with no concrete plan to come back down…  Then covid changed everything. We had to land, and we had no idea how long we were going to have to stay on the ground. My second EP is called Descend (coming out September 3) and it is another set of seven songs, all written during the pandemic and very thematically centered around what we were all going through, but through the lens of a person whose entire profession disappeared when people stopped gathering in groups.”

Ascend Track List

  1. STARTING OVER
  2. THERE YOU ARE
  3. YOUR WIND
  4. WOLF CRIED BOY
  5. RIGHT HERE
  6. DOWN THE ROAD
  7. THE KEY

About Leslie Hunt

A multi-talented and multi-instrumentalist since the age of four, Leslie has captivated millions of people with her songs. With three amazing solo albums under her belt and four studio albums and several live albums as a vocalist and songwriter for the progressive rock band District 97, Leslie’s successes from both her solo career as well as District 97’s have led to many tours in North America and Europe. As a result, Leslie has gained a multitude of fans worldwide.

As a solo artist, Hunt holds regular performances, enchanting rooms large and small with nothing but a piano and her voice. She also has a full backing band for shows that are less intimate, yet still wholly riveting.

Throughout her career, Leslie has worked with numerous established talents, including drummer Vinnie Colaiuta (Frank Zappa, Joni Mitchell, and Sting), bassist Vail Johnson (Stevie Nicks and Herbie Hancock), and Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s cellist Katinka Klein. Ultimately, what sets her apart is that she straddles two extremes: a witty, bouncy pop artist in brightly colored dresses who is pitted against her darker self, a sensual and piano-crouched exhibitionist. Whether it is a cheerful, hook-heavy pop tune about love or a dark and insightful ballad of self-discovery, Hunt’s music is a window into her soul for any listener willing to look.

Quavo × Lids Atlanta Braves Hat Release

Rapper Quavo has partnered with Lids to design his first, limited-edition Atlanta Braves hat.

This exclusive, special edition cap infuses the Braves’ 1995 World Series win over the Cleveland Indians. Featuring unique, Atlanta-inspired patches, it also has a vintage-inspired 1995 World Series patch on the front of the cap, iced out with a frost-like finish. One of Quavo’s favorite features of a fitted cap growing up were the patches, which served as inspiration during the designing process. The hat, an homage to the historic city and his hometown, includes special details such as the Braves’ red and gold logo, a white embroidered A for Atlanta, a gold World Series embroidered trophy, as well as a Quavo Huncho inspired patch. The patches and design of the hat are very obviously inspired by Lord Fubu’s hats, which Quavo has notably been wearing all year and even shouted on Complex today.

This is the first product release from Quavo and Lids after he first partnered with the retailer in late 2019, joining their roster of partners alongside Meek Mill, Melvin Gordon III, Trevor Bauer, Chris Brickley, and Paper Planes.

This one-of-a-kind cap is only arriving in select Lids stores in Georgia (listed below) and limited quantities online at Lids.com starting this Friday, June 4. Quavo also wore the hat over the weekend at Game 3 of the Hawks/Knicks series, posting an image to his Instagram.

ESPN+ Nearly Doubled in Subscribers Last Year

ESPN+ hit 13.8 Million Subscribers, a Massive 75% Increase Year-over-Year

Over the last years, ESPN’s business model has changed, both from a digital and broadcast perspective. The multinational cable sports channel is putting a bigger focus on its additional paid service, ESPN+, as the number of sports fans who chose live streaming instead of other media platforms continues to rise.

According to data presented by Safe Betting Sites, the number of ESPN+ subscribers hit 13.8 million as of April, a massive 75% increase year-over-year.

The Number of Subscribers Doubled Amid the Pandemic

Not meant as a replacement for the cable channel, the ESPN+ has become essential for sports fans who don’t have the cable channel to access ESPN’s content and coverage. It has also grown into a necessary service for sports fanatics, searching for exclusive access to specific sports coverage, special analysis, events, shows, and much more.

In the first quarter of the fiscal year 2019, ESPN+ had around 1.4 million subscribers, revealed the Walt Disney Company’s financial results. Over the next twelve months, this figure jumped by 370% to 6.6 million. However, statistics show the number of subscribers surged after the pandemic struck, as more and more sports fans started choosing live sports streaming over other media platforms. Since January 2020, the number of ESPN+ subscribers more than doubled, rising from 6.6 million to 13.8 million.

Almost 40% of Sports Fans Choose Live Streaming Content, China Leads in Global Comparison

The global YouGov survey conducted in January 2021, revealed some interesting facts about the platforms and media channels sports fans choose to watch sports content. Although live TV still represents the global number-one choice for watching sports, almost 40% of sports fans prefer live streaming content. Statistics show that sports fans aged between 18 and 24 lead in watching live sports streaming, with 47% of them using these services. Millennials, aged between 25 and 34, ranked second with 45% of respondents who stated they do the same.

The social media platforms ranked as the third-most-popular choice for watching sports content, with a 34% share among respondents. Online content, mobile apps, and newspapers followed with 25%, 24%, and 19% share, respectively. Only 8% of all respondents followed sports via magazines.

The survey also showed China represents the leading market for live sports streaming, with 54% of respondents who use online streams to follow the sport. Indonesia, Taiwan, the Philippines, and the United Arab Emirates follow with 50%, 49%, and 42% share, respectively.

The United States, France, and Japan were on the other side of the list with a 17%, 16%, and 13% share, respectively.
