American Soul’s Katlyn Nichol Releases Debut Single

Captivating audiences on hit television shows such as American Soul and Black-ish, North Carolina-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, actress, and performer Katlyn Nichol has signed to CMNTY Culture RCRDS and Republic Records. Now, she steps into the spotlight with her brand new debut single “Liar” today via CMNTY Culture RCRDS/Republic Records.

The track, which was produced by Sak Pase, showcases her standout signature style. Over production infused with an African sample, nostalgic beats, and wild horns, her voice shines on introspective verses and a powerhouse hook alike. She captures the essence of classic “Jersey Club” records, while locking into an unstoppable groove

“Liar” not only introduces Katlyn as a dynamic all-around entertainer, but it also hints at much more to come.

For as much as Katlyn Nichol flourishes in front of the camera as an actress, she really thrives the moment she picks up a microphone. The North Carolina-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, actress, and performer can hit steeple-size vocal peaks, get sassy on a beat, and dazzle with charisma and charm all within the span of the same song. At the age of two, Katlyn would sing from her car seat, belting out gospel runs along with the radio. Soon, she found herself recording backup vocals and melodies for her dad’s recordings and decided to devote her life to music at that young age. Relocating to New Jersey, she gained her first industry experience by working with various management companies in between attending the prestigious Cicely L. Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts. By 12-years-old, Mary J. Blige personally signed her to Matriarch/Def Jam Records. The legend often invited Katlyn to make guest appearances on stage. All of these moves contributed to her evolution as an artist and all-around entertainer. She nailed an audition for BET’S American Soul and captivated millions as Simone Clark, acting, singing, and dancing for the run of the show. In 2020, she joined the cast of Black-ish as Olivia Lockhart and will be returning for the upcoming final season. However, she never stopped writing, recording, and singing. During early 2021, she caught the attention of CMNTY Culture RCRDS and Republic Records and landed a deal with the label.

The Avalances – Since I Left You Deluxe Edition

The 20th-anniversary edition of The Avalanches‘ groundbreaking debut album, Since I Left You, has been released via Astralwerks. Originally released in Australia in 2000 and in the U.S./U.K. in 2001, Since I Left You was named one of the year’s best albums by critics around the world and later placed in the Top 10 of Pitchfork’s Top 200 Albums of the 2000s and in the Top 20 of Rolling Stone’s Greatest EDM Albums of All Time. Since I Left You 20th-Anniversary Deluxe Edition is available in vinyl, CD, and digital formats HERE.

In the hours leading up to the release of the deluxe edition, The Avalanches shared the visualizer for “Tonight May Have To Last Me All My Life” (MF DOOM Remix), one of the remarkable remixes exclusive to the deluxe edition. A previously unheard vocal contribution on the track serves as a bittersweet homage from the late, enigmatic master of the hip-hop underground, who passed away last October. Daniel Dumilethe, who performed as MF DOOM, was praised by The New York Times for forging “a style that was intricate and imaginative, calling on both esoteric and lowbrow references as well as cartoonish imagery in lyrics that could be poignantly emotional.” Born in London and raised on Long Island, Dumilethe released six albums plus full-length collaborations with Madlib and Danger Mouse, among others.

Prince Paul, the de facto fourth member of De La Soul and renowned remixer of Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick and Queen Latifah, revisits the album’s exhilarating title track and acclaimed British producer/DJ Leon Vynehall brings a profound sense of reflection to his remix of “Tonight May Have To Last Me All My Life.” The deluxe edition also includes fresh mixes from Mario Caldato Jr., who produced the Beastie Boys’ multi-Platinum classics Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head, Ill Communication and Hello Nasty.

No album ever made history quite like The Avalanches‘ debut. A meticulous labor of love sifted from the second-hand record bins of Melbourne, Since I Left You was an unprecedented act of musical invention filtered through the loving hands of young music-obsessed DJs and musicians to blossom into the ultimate feelgood world party soundtrack. The boundary-pushing orchestration of samples, some say as many as 3,500 uniquely sourced and spliced sound fragments, was unanimously acclaimed as an act of technical genius. But the glowing heart of the project, a story of oneness through time, space, and infinite diversity, was the magic spell that made the world melt in elation.

Since I Left You’s achievement was to break the easy but facile equation of depth with darkness, intensity with misery: on this record, it is happiness that is the complicated and mysterious state.”

The release and subsequent touring in support of Since I Left You was followed by a 16-year radio silence, which was broken with the release of The Avalanches’ sophomore album, Wildflower, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Vinyl Albums chart and atop the Australian Albums chart in 2016. Their third album,  We Will Always Love You, was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone and won the prestigious 2020 Australian Music Prize.

Announced as the inaugural Luminary Artists in Residence, The Avalanches will be performing Since I Left You with Australia’s Adelaide Symphony Orchestra on July 30 as part of “Illuminate Adelaide”: a major new event celebrating innovation, music, art, and light.

The Tragically Hip – Ouch

THE TRAGICALLY HIP PRESENT THE OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO FOR OUCH STARRING JAY BARUCHEL, REBECCA-JO DUNHAM-BARUCHEL AND RICK MERCER,  WATCH OUCH HERE, NEW ALBUM, SASKADELPHIA, DEBUTS AT #1 ON THE BILLBOARD CANADIAN ALBUM CHART

The Tragically Hip release the official music video for Ouch, the lead single off their brand-new album, Saskadelphia. Watch Ouch HERE.

A Revolver Films production, the music video was produced by Craig Fleming, directed by Sara Basso and stars actor and director Jay Baruchel [Goon: Last of the Enforcers, This Is The End], Rebecca-Jo Dunham-Baruchel and comedian and television personality Rick Mercer [The Rick Mercer Report, Made In Canada].  The video, inspired by “Twin Peaks” and “From Dusk Till Dawn,” is in part a love letter to the period when the band’s sophomore album, Road Apples (1991), was released- a nostalgic throwback to music videos of the early 1990s.

Set in the fictional town of Saskadelphia we meet a rebel on the run played by Jay Baruchel outside of The Clubhouse, a seedy bar reminiscent of one you might have found deep in the swamps of New Orleans. Inside the bar Baruchel is greeted by the stares of bartender (wife Rebecca-Jo Dunham-Baruchel) and a lone patron (Rick Mercer). From the moment Baruchel locks eyes with Mercer and Dunham-Baruchel, his character’s demise seems inevitable as the audience is greeted with the opening lines of the song.

I wanted the video to be something that long-time fans of The Tragically Hip would appreciate but also create intrigue for a younger audience to connect with the historic moment when a small town Canadian band flipped everything on its head and got the whole world listening. Basso notes. The track has a rebellious and audacious tone, which I felt required an off-beat narrative; a tongue-in-cheek thriller, contemporary, with nods to 30 years ago.

Jay Baruchel says, The first concert I ever went to was The Tragically Hip at what used to be called the Molson Centre (now the Bell Centre) in Montreal, when I was in the eleventh grade. From well before that night, right on up to here, I can’t remember a time where The Tragically Hip weren’t part of the vital, every day soundtrack of my life. He continued, Not every country has a band, but Canada does, and it’s The Tragically Hip. Getting to be in a video for one of said songs, with my wife (Dunham-Baruchel) and Rick Mercer to boot, is nothing short of a once in a lifetime moment.

Then came Rick Mercer, whose history with the band runs deep. In the 1990s the television host somehow managed to get the rights to The Tragically Hip’s Blow At High Dough for his show Made In Canada. On being tapped to star in the video, Mercer said, In show business, there are calls you think are impossible to receive and calls you do not say no to. Getting called to be in a new video for The Tragically Hip qualifies on both fronts. As a long-time fan, I love the new material and I was honoured to make an appearance.

Dunham-Baruchel added, Like most Canadians, The Tragically Hip have softly played in the background of so many defining moments in my life. I imagine this song will become a piece of the Canadian soundscape and play across the lakes and cities of our country all summer long. To be a part of something they created is very special and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

Over 30 Easter eggs have been planted throughout the video for fans to connect with The Tragically Hip’s mythos. Viewers are encouraged to identify these subtle nods to the band’s storied history, and share their findings in the comments across the band’s social platforms.

Ouch is the first single off the new album Saskadelphia (Universal Music Canada/UMe) which is made up of six previously unreleased tracks written in 1990. Since its surprise release on Friday, May 21, Saskadelphia has had instant success among fans and critics. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Canadian Album chart in Canada and reached total overall sales of 12,410. At radio lead single Ouch claimed the #1 Most Added title at Mediabase Active and Alternative formats and #1 Most Added at Nielsen BDS Rock. The album received 2 million-plus listeners across radio over the weekend in Canada.

See The Tragically Hip in a rare performance with Feist at The 50th Annual JUNO Awards, broadcast from Toronto this Sunday, June 6, 2021. They will also receive the 2021 Humanitarian Award Presented by Music Canada on the same night. Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees and rock icons, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush will present the band with the award.

GRYFFIN × KYLE REYNOLDS – “BEST IS YET TO COME”

L.A.-based artist/producer Gryffin has just unveiled a new single entitled “Best Is Yet To Come” with buzzing California singer Kyle Reynolds. Released via Darkroom/Interscope Records, Gryffin once again crafts the ultimate summer anthem with an engaging electronic soundscape heightened by Kyle’s soaring delivery and powerful hooks. The track and accompanying video showcase the promise of an endless summer as the world comes back to life. “Best Is Yet To Come” is available now via all digital retailers, watch the video here or listen here.

Earlier this year, Gryffin teamed up with Two Feet for single “I Want Love” which thus far has generated over 9.5 million Spotify streams and garnered critical acclaim. EDM praised, “This idyllic track showcases a balanced blend of seemingly juxtaposing styles.” Additionally, his 2019 anthem “Tie Me Down” with Elley Duhé has surged in popularity once more. Exploding on TikTok, it has recently inspired over nearly 3 million videos in the past month alone. To date, it has amassed nearly a quarter-of-a-billion streams and views. Gryffin also recently announced the first dates for his return to Las Vegas for a 2021 Wynn residency, tickets now on-sale here.

On the meaning behind the track, Gryffin says “Best Is Yet To Come is a song about not knowing or being able to predict the future, but being hopeful and optimistic that better days are on the horizon.”

Be on the lookout for more music from Gryffin soon!

“I Want Love” followed Safe With Me”, featuring rising star Audrey Mika, and “Cry,” a collaboration with Swedish singer/songwriter John Martin hailed by EDM.com as a “scintillating future pop record that tugs at the heartstrings.” In addition, Gryffin’s recent output includes “Hold You Tonight,” a breathtaking collaboration with platinum-selling country artist Chris Lane. Premiering in April, the acoustic-guitar-laced track marked Gryffin’s first new music since the release of Gravity — a widely acclaimed album including hits like “Remember” ft. ZOHARA (a track that shot to #1 on Dance radio), “OMG” (a #16 hit on the US Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, featuring Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen), and “Body Back” ft. Maia Wright (#16 hit on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart). With its incredible lineup of collaborators and guest artists, Gravity also features “Hurt People” (a collaboration with singer/songwriter Aloe Blacc, co-written by Bastille frontman Dan Smith) and “Baggage” by Gryffin with Gorgon City ft. AlunaGeorge (praised by Dancing Astronaut as a “perfectly poignant and danceable requiem to the summer season”).

Known for his kinetic fusion of dance-pop and future bass, Gryffin recently earned RIAA gold certification for “All You Need to Know” with SLANDER ft. Calle Lehmann — a 2019 release that’s now surpassed 100 million streams. The chart-climbing single appears on Gryffin’s debut album Gravity, which hit #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart soon after arriving in October 2019.

ABOUT GRYFFIN

Born Dan Griffith, Gryffin got his start in music as a classically trained pianist and guitarist and also played in several bands. After receiving an electrical engineering degree from the University of Southern California, he pursued a path in music production, drawing equally from his carefully honed musicality and edgy ingenuity. Gryffin made his breakthrough in 2016 with two singles showcasing his melodic take on dance music: “Heading Home” ft. Josef Salvat (which shot to #1 on Spotify’s US and Global Viral charts) and the Bipolar Sunshine collaboration “Whole Heart.” In addition, his 2017 smash single “Feel Good” — with Illenium and featuring Daya— peaked at #18 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay charts. Gryffin’s major triumphs also include “Tie Me Down” ft. Elley Duhé (which hit #2 on the Spotify US Viral Chart and #9 on the Global Viral Chart), “Remember” ft. Zohara (which garnered 6.5 million streams in its first few weeks and earned support from Tiesto, who featured the track on an Instagram story), and “All You Need to Know” with SLANDER ft. Calle Lehmann (a gold-certified smash that’s now surpassed 100 million streams). Arriving in October 2019, Gryffin’s debut album Gravity quickly climbed to #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

Arrdee – Oliver Twist

ArrDee returns with triumphant new single Oliver Twist, Watch Video Here, Purchase / Stream Here. It follows his appearance on Russ & Tion Wayne’s chart-topping “Body” remix

Breakout UK rapper ArrDee continues his ascent through the UK musical ranks with new single Oliver Twist, out 3rd June.

Channeling a rags-to-riches vibe akin to that of the track’s namesake, Oliver Twist sees ArrDee spit lucid, rapid-fire bars over an opulent, violin-led production. It follows ArrDee’s appearance which has gone viral on Russ and Tion Wayne’s Body remix, a track that has hit #1 in the UK Singles chart and amassed 45 million Spotify streams and 23 million YouTube views respectively. Meanwhile his recent Plugged In session with Fumez the Engineer has racked up 2 million YouTube hits in less than a month.

ArrDee burst onto the scene with debut single Cheeky Bars, a track that has already received 2.7 million YouTube streams after being premiered by Mixtape Madness in January. It also picked up organic radio support from Tiffany Calver, DJ Target (BBC 1Xtra), Ricky Melvin and Charlie Hedges (BBC Radio 1) and made its way onto Spotify NMF UK and Rap UK, debuting at #14 in the Viral chart.

Then came 6AM In Brighton, an ode to his hometown that perfectly showcased the 21-year-old’s rapid-fire flow and heart-on-sleeve lyricism, surpassing 2 million YouTube views inside its first month of release.

2021 has already proven to be a career-defining year for ArrDee and the release of Oliver Twist is another huge moment for the supremely talented artist.

Muzi – Need Dat featuring The Temple

MUZI RETURNS WITH A SONIC ODE TO KWAITO IN NEED DAT FT. THE TEMPLE, OUT NOW, BUY/STREAM HERE, MUSIC VIDEO HERE, MUZI’S LATEST SINGLE IS A SONIC ODE TO OLD SCHOOL KWAITO AND FEATURES EXCITING, UPCOMING DUO, THE TEMPLE

Following the release of the globally acclaimed, Interblaktic single, MUZI returns with a salute to the South African kwaito of old in Need Dat featuring The Temple. Dropping worldwide on Thursday, 3 June accompanied by another Clout Killed the Kids directed music video, the distinctly South African track is geared to get those young and old, reminiscing on the dance floor.

Over the past five years Muzi has been redefining the musical landscape of modern South Africa, while simultaneously having a global impact. Channeling the rich, and until recently overlooked, house music history of South Africa with the Zulu traditions of his childhood, the country’s Bubblegum era and local genres like Maskandi, Kwaito and Isicathamiya, Muzi is making music that is universally danceable but with a rich sense of place.

Muzi’s path has seen him evolve from bedroom beat producer, to DJ, to now a fully fledged performer and vocalist. A boundless and exuberantly joyful artist, Muzi has wowed crowds on tastemaking stages around the world and is confident enough in his own vision to design his own clothing and artwork, direct his own videos, and collaborate with artists ranging from Kaytranada and Chris Martin, while earning co-signs from Stormzy and Damon Albarn.

His upcoming album, INTERBLAKTIC is Muzi re-shaping this moment, a rejection of the solitude and loneliness of the past year, it’s music to heal and uplift, music to dance and smile too. It’s a transformative journey that we could all do with taking right now.
