Evan Giia × Mood Swings

SUMMER TOUR WITH LOUIS THE CHILD KICKS OFF JULY 28 IN AUSTIN

Today, Astralwerks released EVAN GIIA’s new single, “Mood Swings.”  The track’s breezy vibe belies the rollercoaster of emotions she evokes. GIIA co-wrote the song with London-based trio RITUAL, who have collaborated with the likes of Dua Lipa, Little Mix and Avicii, all-star songwriter Georgia Ku and New York-based MEMBA. You can download and stream “Mood Swings” HERE. You can view the visualizer for “Mood Swings” HERE.

GIIA will join Louis The Child on their U.S. amphitheater tour, which will kick off with a two-night stand at Stubbs BBQ in Austin, TX (July 28 & 29). She will also perform at the Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas, at the Breakaway North Carolina Music Festival and at Holy Ship! Wrecked in Tulum, Mexico. See below for itinerary. You can purchase tickets HERE.

“Mood Swings” is the follow-up to “Stay Up,” which was released earlier this year along with a Mynxii White-directed video that took fans on a whirlwind tour of some of GIIA’s favorite nighttime haunts in her hometown of Brooklyn. Praising the exuberant clip, PLNKWIFI said, “EVAN GIIA always seems to be going on the coolest adventures, and hey, her music can easily make someone feel as if they’re on one too!” Her late 2020 single, “tiny life,” was recently heard on MTV’s “Siesta Key.” The track was also tapped for an ESPN college football campaign.

LADYGUNN said, “Opera trained vocalist EVAN GIIA is poised for massive success. She keeps on churning out hip hop hits ready to dominate pop radio.” American Songwriter observed, “Every EVAN GIIA song is a pure exchange of energy, powerful enough to lift the darkest mood…the Brooklyn-based artist brings both raw passion and precision to her vocal performance, endlessly heightening the impact of her sculpted approach to electronic pop.”

Giia made her recording debut on the MEMBA track “Heat of the Moment,” featuring alongside Hoosh. The song was named Single of the Week by BBC Radio 1. Released by ODESZA’S Foreign Family Collective in 2018, GIIA’s breakout single “WESTWORLD” and the accompanying music video propelled her to #1 on Hype Machine. Combined global streams of the song now exceed 20 million. Since the release of “WESTWORLD,” GIIA has been in sessions with Hudson Mohawke, Georgia Ku, Nate Campany, Kyle Shearer, Chris Lyon, OjiVolta, Kate Morgan, CHVRCHES, What So Not, Matias Mora and Larzz.

Lucia Restaurant & Bar New Menu

LUCIA RESTAURANT & BAR CELEBRATES SUMMER WITH A PLANT-BASED BASH

NEW COLORS OF THE SEASON MENU FOCUSED ON GREEN, GORGEOUS & GASTRONOMIC

America’s love affair with the garden has exploded with 9.7 million people now fully immersed in a plant-based diet. In fact, 2021 is projected to be THE year this diet finally goes mainstream. From plant-based beverages to meatless burgers, this trend has no signs of slowing given the benefits to both one’s body and the environment. Riding this wave, chef Cal Stamenov is culling beets, chard, asparagus and fresh fava from the Lodge’s two-acre organic garden to debut the new Colors of the Season menu. Served in addition to the la carte and five-course tasting menu, Colors of the Season is available June 1 through July 31, 2021; prices range from $16 to $36.

NATURE’S BOUNTY

Crafting vegetable-driven dishes requires equal parts timing and finesse. Picked at their peak, kale, sweet peas, chard and fresh fava share short lifespans. Coaxing their distinct flavors while marrying ingredients into a leafy risotto, humble ratatouille or goat cheese terrine is an art. Take the elevated Red Striped Beet Spring Roll, a visual stunner with pops of cilantro, olives and creamy avocado, balancing texture and flavor for a full palate immersion. Purple Cauliflower Soup, blending purple basil and purple radish with fresh black beets puts a colorful spin on comfort food.

Other starters include lip-smacking Local Asparagus, steamed with saffron couscous, curly purple mustard and a passionfruit emulsion. The Backdoor Avocado Salad, spotlighting fruit culled from nearby Salinas Valley, delivers a mélange of quinoa, heirloom tomatoes, fennel and fresh basil lightly dressed in Meyer lemon-olive oil with a dusting of Big Sur Sea salt. There is also a spin on crudité, with the Colorful Pickled Veggies Around and an ethereal Beautiful Strawberries, pairing arugula, lemon confit and aged balsamic with a dollop of fluffy Italian burrata.

Green Gazpacho makes a showing on the new menu, with a deft blend of celery, cilantro, avocado and piquant Padron peppers. The Leafy Green Risotto, focused on kale, Swiss chard, spinach, chervil and fresh fava is a flavor explosion, as is the Portobello Wellington, stuffed with zucchini, kale, goat cheese and pine nuts with a rich butternut squash sauce. Corn hounds will love the Agnolotti Pasta, prepared with fresh yellow corn, just-picked sweet peas and shave or two of Australian black winter truffles. Rounding out the menu is a Stuffed Rainbow Chard, easy on both the eyes and palate, pairing green lentils du puy, zucchini, brown rice and goat cheese.

SOURCING SUPERFOODS

The switch to a plant-based diet is not a fad. According to Gallup, 77 percent of Americans have reduced their meat consumption in the past 12 months, with almost six in 10 Americans reporting transitioning to a more flexitarian or semi-vegetarian diet. This bodes well for chefs who have long refined their craft in this category.

There is no shortage of benefits for those who aligned with a vegetable-forward diet. According to Everyday Health, the nine scientific benefits from following this menu regimen include lower blood pressure, reduction in cardiovascular disease, weight loss, reduction in Type 2 diabetes, stroke and risk of cancer, and issues surrounding cholesterol. Living longer is another key benefit. The Journal of the American Heart Association study found that a plant-based diet lowers the risk of all causes of mortality by 25 percent. Finally, the noted benefits to the brain, largely due to polyphenols which are known to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive decline. Simply stated, the world is your (mushroom) oyster!

LUCIA RESTAURANT & BAR

Set in secluded Carmel Valley on 28 acres of sweeping lavender, grapevines and olive orchards, Lucia Restaurant & Bar has long set the standard for luxury dining along the California coast. Named after the majestic Santa Lucia Mountains which provide the dramatic backdrop to the 2,300 sq., ft., alfresco terrace, the contemporary 90-seat dining room is set in rich white Italian leather paired with rustic treatments crafted in marble, oxidized copper, teak and reclaimed wood. French wooden floors, chandeliers and stunning exterior fireplaces grace the mixed-use table layout with a focal point fireplace styled from Bagattini Oregon stone marking the main entrance. Paired with Stamenov’s light touch and artisanal integrity, the restaurant underscores the authentic relationship between food and terroir.

Classically trained with an eye to sustainability, Stamenov’s light touch and artisanal integrity are evident in every offering. Wielding an impressive resume working under the ardent eye of such culinary greats as Pierre Gagnaire, Michel Richard, Alain Ducasse, Eric Ripert and the legendary Masa Kobayashi, his California country cuisine plays off locally sourced product with the essence of the dish taking center stage. Subtle reductions and thoughtful flavor marriages are his mantra, paired with a back pocket of local farmers and foragers keeping Lucia’s kitchen at a steady simmer.

Culling from the Lodge’s two-acre backdoor organic garden and a private cache of 150+ fruit trees, heirloom vegetables, 180,000 Italian honeybees and resident Plymouth, Barred Rock, Rhode Island, Speckled Sussex and Ameraucana chickens, Stamenov’s seasonal spotlight menu is certain to please.

ISSAM ALNAJJAR × R3HAB

JORDANIAN ARTIST ISSAM ALNAJJAR TEAMS UP WITH R3HAB ON HADAL AHBEK (R3HAB CLUB REMIX)

TURNING ME UP (HADAL AHBEK) WITH LOUD LUXURY & ALI GATIE DEBUTS AT #36 ON BILLBOARD DANCE/MIX SHOW AIRPLAY CHART

Rising international pop phenomenon Issam Alnajjar recruits Moroccan Dutch DJ and producer R3HAB for a summertime-ready remix of his breakthrough viral hit, Hadal Ahbek.

Of the remix, Issam says, “It’s great and it’s an honor to have DJ R3HAB, a worldwide DJ with Arab roots, remix my song into this crazy club mix!”

Hadal Ahbek (R3HAB Club Remix) was produced by R3HAB and Luay Hijazeen and follows Issam’s recent collaboration with Loud Luxury and Ali Gatie on Turning Me Up (Hadal Ahbek). The song has impressively amassed over 10 million Spotify streams to date, debuted at #36 on the Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay Chart and #20 on the Billboard Canada CHR/Top 40 Chart this week and hit #4 on Canada’s Shazam Chart. HITS praised the song, calling it “a truly world-rocking fusion, while Dancing Astronaut said, “‘Turning Me Up (Hadal Ahbek)’ is a club-ready revision of a viral soundbite. Issam recently told Music.com his story, how he got into music and how he uses it as therapy—watch the interview HERE. Stay tuned for a new single to come from Issam in July.

Earlier this spring, Issam dropped the official video for his debut single Hadal Ahbek, which has amassed over 10 million views on YouTube. Universal Music Group and Republic Records partnered with Founder and CEO of SALXCO and XO RECORDS, Wassim “SAL” Slaiby, and announced the launch of Universal Arabic Music (UAM). UAM, a label dedicated to discovering, introducing and championing the artists, sounds and rich musical culture of the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region, marked the launch by announcing Issam Alnajjar as its first artist signing.

The 17-year-old singer, songwriter, and guitarist has made history with Hadal Ahbek, as it is the first Arabic song to explode worldwide as a viral #1 hit. In addition to racking up nearly 40 million Spotify streams and 3 billion sound views on TikTok, it has climbed up numerous global charts and been added to notable playlists since its release. Upon release, the track peaked at #1 on Spotify’s US and Global Viral 50 Charts and Shazam’s Top 200 Global Chart, as well as reached Top 20 spots on Apple Music’s Global Hits and Viral Hits Playlists. The song claimed spots on Spotify’s Pop Rising, Viral Hits, Teen Beats, and RADAR playlists. On the international stage, it hit #1 on Spotify’s Viral Chart in 25 local markets, including UK, Canada, Germany, France, and Mexico, and #1 on Shazam’s Top 200 Chart in 24 local markets. In the MENA region, the track peaked at #3 on Apple Music Pop Chart in Jordan and Lebanon, #5 on Apple Music Pop Chart in Egypt, #3 on Spotify’s Saudi Arabia Daily Chart, #3 on Deezer Lebanon Chart, #7 on Deezer United Arab Emirates Chart, and #7 on Deezer Tunisia Chart. The live performance video of “Hadal Ahbek” has over 76 million views on YouTube.

Hadal Ahbek, which translates to “I’ll Keep Loving You” in Arabic, first became an Internet sensation after Issam posted a snippet of the track on Instagram. After finding initial success and amassing over 10 thousand followers and 12 thousand views overnight, he created a fan challenge with the song on TikTok, which set it on fire around the world. The irresistible bop has arrived as a cross-continental anthem and cements Issam Alnajjar as an international artist to watch in 2021.

ABOUT ISSAM ALNAJJAR
Issam Alnajjar is leading the way for a new generation of artists from the Middle East and North Africa to take over the global music scene. A 17-year-old musician from Amman, Jordan, he had been creating music for a couple of years, studying the songwriting of pop artists like Shawn Mendes and Ed Sheeran and admiring the creativity of iconic artists like Queen and The Weeknd, when he got some inspiration for his breakout hit Hadal Ahbek. After dropping a preview video for the song on Instagram, anticipation from his fans grew larger and larger. By the time he finally released Hadal Ahbek, with Issam’s silky voice and infectious lyrics and melody, the popularity of it exceeded his expectations. Issam says he had only expected 10k views total for his song. That was shattered in one day, and eventually it grew to 100k views a week. And on TikTok, the song only grew bigger and now currently sits atop dozens of music charts on Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer. For any artist to have a top song is an accomplishment. But what makes Issam’s feat more incredible is that he achieved this with a song sung in Arabic.

GAVIN JAMES – SOBER

GAVIN JAMES NEW SINGLE SOBER

Dublin-Based Artist Has Amassed More Than 1.5 Billion Combined Global Streams Across His Catalog

Gavin James, whose unassuming authenticity and songcraft have earned him 1.5 billion combined global streams and 32 international Platinum or Gold certifications, returns with his first new music of 2021: Sober. The single asks the timeless question: is this love fueled by intoxication or is it based on something more substantial?

Sober is a song about being in love with someone and then in the morning they all of a sudden don’t love you back,” explains Gavin James. “It’s pretty much about the sobering reality that you are not for them, and you’re left alone replaying the relationship in your head … so you’re sad about it and you sing it real loud with a piano.

There’s a bravery in exposing such vulnerability in a song and that’s matched by his judgement in deploying the full-strength of his emotive vocals only where it matters the most. Helping Gavin achieve his full potential on the track are some A-list collaborators. Production comes from Patrick Pyke Salmy and Ricardo Muñoz, who have been dominating charts across Europe with Zoe Wees hits Control and Girls Like Us. Sober was mixed by Mitch McCarthy (Olivia Rodrigo, drivers license).

Gavin has come a long way since he began busking on the streets of Dublin. From early favorites such as Always and Nervous (The Ooh Song) to recent releases Man on the Moon and Boxes, the 29-year-old’s talents have been embraced by numerous superstars. He has played shows with Niall Horan, Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, while Jimin of BTS amassed 256 million likes when he sang along to Nervous on the South Korean streaming service V Live. Gavin’s most recent Boxes EP hit No. 1 on Ireland’s album and airplay charts last year. Touring internationally, he has sold over 250,000 tickets for his headline shows, including two nights at Dublin’s 13,000 capacity 3Arena. Noisey.com hailed Gavin as “a soulful singer-songwriter sure to make you feel less alone when you’re down in the dumps,” and Clash praised him as “tender, emotional, no mean talent.”

Mimi Webb Shares New Single Dumb Love

With over 116 million total streams, widespread worldwide critical acclaim, and growing global buzz, UK pop singer and songwriter Mimi Webb shares a new single and music video entitled “Dumb Love.”

On this stirring ballad, piano keys resound as she grasps on to a formative romance through her nostalgically vivid lyrics. As her powerful delivery echoes, she recalls, “We had that dumb love.” The accompanying visual directed by Elliot Simpson brings the story to life with a ton of emotion and a sharp sense of humor as Mimi Webb reconnects with an old flame at a wedding where everything else just seems to go wrong in hilarious fashion.

About the song, she commented, “I think we’ve all had ‘dumb love’ at some point! You fall crazy head over heels for someone, and it’s all about that fresh new love feeling you get. That ‘is this actually real’ feeling & sometimes, it’s the most real, because ‘dumb love’ really never ends.”

Next up, Mimi Webb will embark on her first proper headline tour. It kicks off in Dublin, Ireland at Academy 2 on Thursday October 28, visits cities across the UK, and concludes in London on November 2 at Scala.

Artist Pre-Sale tickets in UK/Ticketmaster Ireland will go on sale Monday June 14 at 9am local BST time. General tickets will go on sale Wednesday June 16 at 9am local BST time. Jesse Royal – Royal Review

By: Skyler Johnson

Jesse Royal is back at it again with his sophomore album: Royal. The Jamaican musician hasn’t released any music for two years and is now coming back with a new album. I’ve gotten the privilege to listen to this album so I can tell you all about it.

The album as a whole is continuation of Royal’s previous works, and are solid pieces of the roots reggae genre. The album is relatively short, only containing eleven songs, four of which having been previously released (LionOrder, Dirty Money Rich Forever, Natty Pablo), but each song is solid. There aren’t any major duds on the list. The songs center around the themes of wealth, and the importance of wealth in our lives.

High Tide or Low

The album starts off with this song,  that beautifully and perfectly begins the album. Starting off with the intro of classical music and the soft drop with Royal’s stunning vocals, and continuing with a solid reggae beat makes this a great opening track and a great listen overall.

LionOrder and Dirty Money

The next two songs have previously been released. Needless to say, these are both great songs that fit well within the album. “LionOrder” comes in with a slower beat which contrasts perfectly with “Dirty Money’s” fast-paced pre-chorus and chorus.

Natty Dread

“Natty Dread” has a catchy beat with an excellent chorus, and is overall a nice love song, with lyrics more challenging than in most love songs. It’s definitely one of my favorite songs off the album.

Home

More lowkey then the previous few songs, I really enjoyed listening to “Home”. It’s slower, and takes some influence from R&B. The result is a beautiful song about family that I really enjoyed. It’s not all the time that I see musicians talking about family as beautifully as Royal talks about it, and with such an excellent beat to go along with it.

Rich Forever

The previously released “Rich Forever” comes next with one of the best beats in the album. The chorus has an excellent bass riff and the pace is perfect. The drop is also solid, and the buildup is excellent as well. “Natty Pablo” is also a great track, and has some solid beats, though it’s hard to follow up “Rich Forever.”

Black

“Black” is a fast-paced hard-hitting song and one of my favorites off of the album. This isn’t a dance album but this song could be played at a club and I’d dance to it. It definitely is the song to listen to whenever you want to get up and move, and will be the one that gets stuck in your head the most.

Like Dat and Differences

These next two songs and are clearly the worst off the album, which is why they’re strategically placed between two of the better songs on the track, “Black” and “Strongest Link.” “Like Dat” is reminiscent of emo rap, which is a genre that’s oversaturated as it is. “Differences’” is better but also not very memorable. This isn’t to say that either of these are bad songs, they’re just not the best.

Strongest Link

Last but not least is this song. It hits hard from the beginning and remains hard-hitting throughout it’s four minute runtime. Also, the lyric, “It’s funny how money, how money turns friends into foes” will replay in my head over and over again.

Overall, this is a great album, filled with a lot of bangers. Definitely give it a listen!

Topic × Bebe Rexha Release Chain My Heart

Topic and Bebe Rexha team up on the infectious new single “Chain My Heart,” which captures how, paradoxically, surrendering to love can bring the ultimate freedom. Bebe’s evocative, rapid-fire vocal delivery and Topic’s darkly melodic production are an intoxicating combination on the track, which was released today by Astralwerks.

Co-collaborator and NYC-native Bebe Rexha explains, “’Chain My Heart’ is about finding somebody that truly captivates your heart, and not wanting to let them go. I had a great time working together with Topic, he is very talented, and I am so excited for everyone to hear this song!”

Topic adds, “When creating ‘Chain My Heart,’ we noticed relatively early on that the song needed a strong woman, who could convey a certain edginess with her voice. With some melodies you directly imagine the person you want on the track in the process. Bebe Rexha was the one who struck our minds instantly. Vocally, she has exactly the attitude that the song needs. You can hear that especially in the pre-chorus.”

“Chain My Heart” comes on the heels of the release of Bebe’s Better Mistakes – the sophomore album from the Diamond-selling, two-time GRAMMY® nominee – and Topic’s collaboration with ATB andA7S, “Your Love (9pm). The acclaimed producer recently dropped a remix of “You,” giving the Regard + Troye Sivan + Tate McRae single a sultry, summery club vibe. His exuberant, soulful remix of Moby’s new version of “Natural Blues” ft. Gregory Porter & Amythyst Kiah can be heard HERE. Topic and A7S were nominated for a Billboard Music Award for Top Dance/Electronic Song for their 2020 hit,  “Breaking Me,” which has racked up more than 1.7 billion combined streams worldwide.
