Jessia x I Should Quit

Rising Canadian pop star and songwriter Jessia released the official video for her new single, I Should Quit.

Directed by Nina Kramer, the carefree video highlights Jessia’s struggle to accept her friends’ advice to stop making impulsive bad choices, while knowing that she should quit but in reality admits she has no intention of doing so. On the track, Jessia says “I’m really good at giving advice but not always good at taking it. I know what I SHOULD do but what’s the fun in always playing it safe? Sometimes you just need to fully accept that you are a hot mess.”

Recently, Jessia was featured as Billboard Magazine’s Chartbreaker for the month of June. Her CRIA Gold-certified body acceptance anthem I’m not Pretty is currently Top 5 at Hot AC radio in Canada and features GRAMMY® Award-nominated artist Bebe Rexha on the official remix version of the track released last month. “I’m not Pretty” recently crossed 100 million+ streams and this week tops the Billboard Canada Emerging Artists Chart for the SEVENTH consecutive week at #1.

I’m Not Pretty initially exploded on Tik Tok when Jessia introduced the a cappella hook of the song by sharing, “I don’t know if this is total trash, or if it’s actually a bop.” Turns out it was the latter, as the clip racked up 1 million views in a day. The candid lyrics describe a journey towards self-love and the emotions one can feel while on its path – a message that has instantly resonated with audiences all over the world.

In addition to early support from international tastemakers, Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Ryan Tedder personally reached out to Jessia upon hearing the song to champion her work and collaborate. Together they are putting the finishing touches on more new music—due out soon.

Mariah the Scientist x 2 You

Mariah the Scientist drops new track and video, 2 You, from her upcoming project, RY RY WORLD coming this summer.

Today, Atlanta-based R&B singer/songwriter Mariah the Scientist shares a new track and video 2 You via RCA Records. Marking her first release of 2021, the track’s trippy, bouncy beat flows seamlessly with Mariah’s clear, sleek vocals. The video transports you to space, displaying various scenes of galaxies and stars, while Mariah pours her feelings out through her vulnerable lyrics. “2 You” will be on her forthcoming project RY RY WORLD coming this summer, which is now available for pre-order.

RY RY WORLD is her first project release since her 2019 major label debut Master – a wry and profoundly personal collection of self-reflective ballads layered with sparse, cinematic instrumentals, which has garnered over 31 million streams worldwide and counting. Last year, Mariah released two tracks gearing up for her return – Always n Forever feat. Lil Baby, an iconic love song about loyalty and commitment, and RIP,  an ethereal slow-drip ballad about finding a way to end the pain of never feeling enough for someone else.

Pitchfork proclaims Mariah a “major new voice in R&B.” She’s an artist who embodies modern R&B through her fearlessness and unapologetic femininity while her songwriting is rooted in vulnerability and honesty. These variables combined into each song is what makes Mariah the Scientist relatable to anyone who listens to her music.

Mariah the Scientist is officially back and ready for a game-changing return. Her new releases are bound to be as iconic and powerful as her previous tracks.

Long Beach Juneteenth Celebration

Long Beach Hosts Largest Juneteenth Celebration in City’s History

On Saturday, June 19th, Long Beach will host its largest Juneteenth event ever. The Long Beach Juneteenth Celebration will take place on Historic Pine Avenue in Downtown Long Beach, between 4th and 5th Streets, from 11AM – 4PM. The city of Long Beach officially designated Juneteenth a “Day of Celebration,” and they will advocate for it to become a state and federal holiday through their City Council legislative affairs committees.

We are excited to celebrate the best of Black culture with our people and allies,” said event organizer Carl Kemp. “I chose to do this event in response to a call from God, and it has been blessed with volunteers, supporters and sponsors who also believe in the vision of celebrating Black freedom, culture, achievement and unity.”

This free event will feature an array of performances from the main stage, including R&B superstar Eric Benét, MAJOR., the Antioch Mass Choir, African drum and dance, jazz poetry and more! There will also be vendors and fun activities for the entire family.

The Long Beach Juneteenth celebration allows our community to reflect on progress we’ve made, while recognizing with clear eyes how far we have to go. Black people worldwide still suffer under the oppression of systemic racism and injustice,” said Cameron Onumah, Amazon Policy Manager. Amazon is the Presenting Sponsor and made a major contribution toward the event. “We have a lot of work to do as a society, and, as a company, we want to listen, engage and take action, together.”

I am overjoyed and elated to sponsor the Long Beach Juneteenth Celebration,” said Wayne Chaney Jr., Lead Pastor of Antioch Church of Long Beach, which is just steps away from the event. “I know Carl’s personal journey and commitment to making this vision from God a reality, and I believe with all my heart that this is the start of something big for our city for years to come.

The DLBA is proud to sponsor this important celebration to honor Black history and culture. We remain committed to recognizing and supporting our Black community not only through Juneteenth, but throughout the year. This is an important part of building cultural and social awareness while embracing the broader conversation of diversity, equity and inclusion,” said Kraig Kojian, President and CEO, Downtown Long Beach Alliance. “We look forward to everyone coming together for an afternoon of uplifting celebration in our Downtown to support the celebration and our community.”

We are honored to be one of the inaugural sponsors of this year’s Long Beach Juneteenth celebration. Juneteenth is an important part of history that should be recognized and celebrated in the community, and it’s exciting to see the entire city come together for such an important cause,” said Tamika Lang, Boeing Global Engagement Senior Manager.

JESSIE J – I WANT LOVE

JESSIE J PREMIERES I WANT LOVE OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO

NEW ALBUM ARRIVING LATER THIS YEAR

GRAMMY® Award-nominated multi-platinum pop superstar Jessie J premieres the official music video for brand-new single I Want Love via LAVA/Republic Records.

“This album is like a short film over many years of my life and this video is the first part of that story I’m sharing.” Jessie J comments on the new music video, “I wanted the video to feel like people weren’t supposed to see this moment. A moment between the moments captured.”

I Want Love sets the stage for her anxiously awaited fifth full-length album, coming later this year, co-written with and executive produced by GRAMMY® Award-winning mega-producer Ryan Tedder (Beyoncé, Adele).

Back in 2011, Jessie J quietly emerged with the biggest voice in pop. The UK-born powerhouse introduced herself with Who You Are, which not only went platinum, but also yielded the quadruple-platinum Price Tag and platinum Domino. Not to mention, the record made history as “the first album by a British female artist to produce six or more Top 10 hits in the UK,” while she picked up the 2011 Critics’ Choice BRIT Award and BBC’s Sound of 2011. On its heels, 2014’s Sweet Talker crashed the Top 10 of the Billboard Top 200 and housed the eight-times platinum Bang Bang with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. Throughout 2018, she revealed R.O.S.E. in four parts to critical acclaim and supported it with a sold-out world tour. The same year Jessie J traveled to China and joined the TV show SINGER, a singing competition where she performed each week in front of a television audience of 250 million with a grand finale viewership of a 1 billion. Not only was Jessie J the first international artist to ever compete alongside the biggest artists in Asia, but also the first to ever win. With a once-in-a-generation voice, confessional writing style, and stadium-shaking charisma, she’s back in 2021 with I Want Love.

Watch I Want Love here. Now available on all platforms.

KYLEYOUMADETHAT – POOF BE GONE

KYLEYOUMADETHAT RELEASES NEW TRACK POOF BE GONE FEAT. YUNG BABY TATE, YVETTE AND CHEERLEBRIDEE

Turning up with even more heat, rising Toronto artist and producer KyleYouMadeThat unveils his new track Poof Be Gone feat. Yung Baby Tate, Yvette and Cheerlebridee today via The Heavy Group/Republic Records.

Bass thumps as the sample militantly bumps, Poof be gone.  Through the rattle of heavy drums, Yung Baby Tate tears into KyleYouMadeThat’s production with raucous and raunchy bars, while Yvette drips confidence. He initially teased the sound on TikTok, and it has already spawned over 676K user-generated videos, including videos from Lizzo, Tia Mowry, JoJo SiwaCharli D’Amelio and more, creating a massive dance trend on the platform.

It’s the bounciest and boldest banger of the summer.

Recently, KyleYouMadeThat dropped the Justis Bratt-assisted Haha and received looks from RESPECT MagazineSOOH, and more in addition to putting up numbers.

Just prior, KyleYouMadeThat linked with Shaylen and Bryce Vine for Do Si Do, which attracted widespread acclaim. Billboard cited it among Spotify Editors’ Picks for New Music Friday, and Entertainment Tonight even touted it on its weekly roundup. He also joined forces with multiplatinum rapper YBN Nahmir, Joseph Black and YB Redencion for the intimate and introspective single “Make You Happy.”

He popped off alongside Coi Leray and Kaash Paige on All About Cake. Inciting excitement among tastemakers, DefPen noted, “KyleYouMadeThat is making a major name for himself in the world of R&B and hip-hop, and HipHopDX praised how “KyleYouMadeThat switches up tempos in his new single ‘All About Cake’.” It has already spawned north of 10 million TikTok dance videos with creations by everyone from Lizzo to Charli D’Amelio.

Meanwhile, his debut single HOOPLA — the collaboration between KyleYouMadeThat and NLE Choppa — has racked up nearly 2 million streams to date and earned critical acclaim. HotNewHipHop enthusiastically described it as “a bouncy banger.” HOOPLA initially exploded on Tik Tok when KyleYouMadeThat shared nothing more than the beat on his page. Dance influencer Karaleigh Cannella shared a viral dance soundtracked by the production, and Seventeen praised it among “The Hottest TikTok Dances You Can’t Stop Doing.

KyleYouMadeThat already moved the internet, and now he’s set to move the culture. Soundtracking 16 million-plus videos on Tik Tok and generating views in the billions by 2021, the Toronto-born artist, producer, and creative cooks up genre-defiant anthems and curates viral moods. After years producing for the likes of Trey Songz, Ryan Leslie, and Tinashe, he found himself stuck at home at the onset of the Global Pandemic. He leveled up all-around, becoming more proficient at graphic design, photo editing, and video editing. He also studied Tik Tok and pledged to “get a viral hit. He didn’t just go viral; he practically broke the platform. “Crystal Dolphin” incited videos by dozens of influencers such as Charli D’Amelio (102 million followers), Addison Rae (71 million followers), SpencerX (50 million followers), and Loren Gray (50 million followers) as well as superstar Jason Derulo. Not to mention, the success translated to other platforms with 56 million streams on Spotify. Meanwhile, “All About Cake” inspired videos by everyone Kimberlyloazia (31.8 million followers) and Tony Lopez (23 million) to three posts from Lizzo. It would be his off-kilter sonic sensibility that shined through the loudest though, defining a whole wave in the process under the radar. Now, he asserts himself as both a trend architect and precise hitmaker on a series of 2021 singles for The Heavy Group/Republic Records.

Moon Jelly Experience at Birch Aquarium

Birch Aquarium is the public exploration center for Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Birch Aquarium features the groundbreaking work of Scripps Oceanography and UC San Diego scientists as well as conservation breeding programs, and interactive exhibits. Birch Aquarium’s mission is to connect understanding to protecting our ocean planet, which the aquarium achieves by engaging, hands-on learning opportunities for nearly 500,000 guests as well as more than 50,000 pre-K-12 students each year.

The aquarium has been part of Scripps Institution of Oceanography for more than 100 years, and in their current location since 1992. Here, guests get to explore interactive exhibits and come face to face with exciting creatures including a rescued Loggerhead Sea Turtle, Leopard Sharks, Moon Jellies, Giant Pacific Octopus and more. Highlights of the aquarium include a two-story Giant Kelp Forest, outdoor touch pools that feature stunning ocean views as well as get the opportunity to touch juvenile sharks and rays, and local tidepool creatures. They are perhaps best known for our conservation work with sea dragons and seahorses and are one of the only aquariums in the world to have successfully bred Weedy Sea dragons in captivity.

This summer, Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography has announced that they will be offering extended hours this summer. From July 1-August 31, they will be open from 9AM to 7PM daily. Along with new hours, they are also opening a brand new 600-gallon cylindrical jelly experience in the Hall of Fishes.

Moon Jellies are found around the world from the warm waters of the tropics to the cold waters of the northern and southern oceans. These highly resilient and ancient creatures are made of 95% seawater! Some jellies pack a punch with potent stings and adapt quickly to warming oceans. This new exhibit is a great opportunity for guests to get up close and personal with jellies, sting free,” said Jennifer Nero Moffatt, Senior Director of Animal Care and Husbandry. The new exhibition is a fantastic opportunity for guests to get up close and personal with these jellies.

Though health and safety regulations are starting to loosen in the county, Birch Aquarium continues to monitor the situation and guest safety remains a top priority. Operating at limited capacity to ensure safe social distancing, masks are still required, and visitors will all have to reserve advance tickets for admission. Latest safety protocols can be found on their FAQ page and tickets can be bought online only.

The Ed Sullivan Show’s official YouTube channel continues in June with the iconic “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’” by Nancy Sinatra and one of the primetime juggernaut’s most surprising moments; when Frank Sinatra presented Ed Sullivan with a birthday cake for the show’s 16th anniversary in 1964. Five years later and premiering on the channel this month, rock ‘n’ roll legend Janis Joplin gave The Ed Sullivan Show viewers a Woodstock preview with her upbeat performance of “Raise Your Hand,” one of the songs she belted out during her set at the historic music festival in August 1969.

Additional classic performances include Joel Grey “Give My Regards To Broadway,” Lionel Hampton “12th Street Rag,” Paul Anka “Put Your Head On My Shoulder” and Tony Bennett “It Had To Be You.” Also on the stage are music greats Al Hirt, Billy Eckstine, Edith Piaf, and Harry Belafonte.

June also features Hollywood greats Charlie Chaplin Jr. and Orson Welles, laughs from Harpo Marx and Ed Sullivan, Henny Youngman, Totie Fields, plus family fun with Linon the Belgian Clown, plate spinners The Alcettys and comedic acrobats The Martys, among others. Throughout its historic 23-year primetime run (1948-1971), The Ed Sullivan Show brought the hottest performances from around the world and introduced emerging talent to America’s living rooms every Sunday night.
