Known for his kaleidoscopic fusion of classic pop songcraft with freewheeling modern psychedelia and indefatigable showmanship, Nordista Freeze has spent much of the past half-decade on stage, performing more than 500 electrifying shows since 2016. Now, with BIG SKY PIPE DREAM, the Nashville-based artist has come closer than ever before to capturing his unstoppable live energy on record. Tracked live in the studio between stints on tour starting in 2018, the album serves as aural documentation of Freeze’s life on the road, intentionally crafted, he says, to represent the sound of playing in dive bars and DIY venues.
A sonic love letter to the warmth of 60s pop, BIG SKY PIPE DREAM marks a departure from Freeze’s previous full-length, 2017’s COSMIC HAUS, eschewing that album’s heavy conceptuality for a collection of 21st-century nuggets spanning the breezy, organ-driven Wysteria to the perfect pop of First Time, the latter hailed by NPR for being as good-natured as it is brightly infectious, an unseasonably pleasant spring Saturday in song form.
Considered by many as the king of Nashville’s DIY scene, Freeze is a major presence within his hometown’s vibrant independent music community, from his recent triumph at Nashville’s premiere new music discovery competition, Lightning 100’s Music City Mayhem (streaming HERE), to collaborations and associations with diverse local artists like Arlie, Briston Maroney, and The Voice winner Chloe MK. Beyond his own performances, Freeze has played an instrumental role in booking such annual indie events as the high-school dance-turned-intergalactic party, Space Prom, and FreezeFest, his landmark celebration of the bands, both upcoming and established, that play on campuses, coffee shops, and dive bars across Music City.

If I were asked to give a TED Talk, it would be about how to build an audience from the ground up, Freeze says. My whole perspective is that you can grow a fanbase from playing almost anywhere, whether that be a house show or an empty gas station. It all matters.

Today, Casio announces the latest addition to its premium G-SHOCK MR-G series with the MRGB2000BS3A, a limited-edition model designed after the concept of Hana-Basara, a Basara commander spirit. Basara was a term of respect used for samurai commanders who shattered conventions with a rebellious style that combined strength and a bold, lavish aesthetic.
The bezel on the MRGB2000BS3A is made of Cobarion, which is four-times harder than pure titanium and features a facet-cutting technique, commonly used in gemstone arts. Cutting/polishing artisan Kazuhito Komatsu applied crisp polishes to the many facets with varying angles to achieve a brilliant, gleaming finish. The indices on the watch dial feature a curved form achieved through nano processing to evoke the curvature of a Japanese sword, coupled with a blend of green, red, gold and black hues, paying homage to the Hana-Basara armor.
The traditional Japanese hue kurogane-iro (“iron color”) is reproduced on the titanium band and screw-lock case back with a newly developed, dark green DLC finish. A name derived from the deep shade of green that appears on the surface of iron heated to high temperatures, the color resembles the iron-clad helmet and armor Basara samurai commanders wore. The titanium case is made from DAT55G titanium, which is three times harder than pure titanium and is dressed in a brown Arc IP with a commemorative plate adorning its edge. The plate is engraved with “25th LIMITED” to mark the 25th anniversary of the MR-G line.
