Guwop Reign – Need Me

GUWOP REIGN OFFICIALLY RELEASES NEW SINGLE NEED ME

With numbers rising and buzz heating up, 17-year-old Boston-born and Atlanta-based rapper Guwop Reign drops a new single entitled “Need Me” today. It is available at all DSP’s via Galactic Records/Republic Records now.

Stream Need Me here

He initially teased the track on Soundcloud, and it sent fans into a frenzy as they clamored for a wide release. Flaunting sharp lyrics over an 8-bit beat, it showcases his inimitable flow and otherworldly melodies. He glides over this production towards an incisively catchy refrain. It also follows hot on the heels of fan favorites such as Forgot It and Super Pain.

Thus far, Guwop Reign has eclipsed 5 million-plus Soundcloud streams and earned glowing endorsements from tastemakers with Lyrical Lemonade crowning him one of 2020’s standout stars. Last year, he rolled through with a string of anthems, including Demeanor. Additionally, his fan favorite song Mulan 2 raked in a ton of streams. Lyrical Lemonade proclaimed, The Atlanta native’s massive range shines and he is able to easily manipulate pitch and cadence to keep his songs continually interesting and simultaneously sonically pleasing. Meanwhile, The Daily Chiefers commented, Atlanta’s own Guwop Reign is in the fast lane and firing off nothing but bangers in 2020.

Music encodes life’s most important lessons. Beneath the beats and between the bars, Guwop Reign confronts the struggles of youth, depression, anxiety, friends-turned-into-foes, and relationships with a level of wisdom and perspective that belies his 16 years. The Boston-born and Atlanta-based rapper flows with the intensity of an open wound as he tightly grips each melody. Streamed nearly four million times on Soundcloud, Reign built an avid fan base with one independent anthem after another including Money Talk, Fly, and No Love plus tastemaker praise from Lyrical Lemonade and Elevator Magazine. Landing a deal with Galactic Records in partnership with Republic Records the young prodigy released his single Mulan 2 in 2020 and is prepared to make his full-length debut for the label. Drawing on diverse influences such as Tupac, Future, Young Thug, and Rihanna, he asserts himself as a melodic hip-hop force ready for the spotlight.

Fire in Little Africa – Elevator

FIRE IN LITTLE AFRICA ALBUM OUT NOW + POWERFUL VISUAL FOR ELEVATOR VIA MOTOWN RECORDS/BLACK FORUM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BOB DYLAN CENTER AND WOODY GUTHRIE CENTER, Album Brings Fresh And Important Perspective To The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre And Celebrates The City’s Vibrant Hip Hop Scene, LISTEN & STREAM FIRE IN LITTLE AFRICA HERE, WATCH ELEVATOR VISUAL HERE

Fire in Little Africa, a groundbreaking album of original material, written and recorded by a collective of Oklahoma hip hop artists to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre, will be released on May 28 by Motown Records/Black Forum in partnership with Tulsa’s Bob Dylan Center and Woody Guthrie Center.

The 21-track collection gets to the truth of what happened on May 31 and June 1, 1921 when a white mob descended on the streets of Greenwood, then a prosperous Tulsa neighborhood known as Black Wall Street, and burned down the business district, destroying roughly 1,500 homes, killing hundreds and leaving thousands of Black Tulsans homeless. For years, this historic, albeit dire, chapter was left out of classrooms and textbooks as the city attempted to erase this part of its past. The artists heard on Fire in Little Africa get to the truth through urgent songs, recalling stories told and stories lived in hope to usher in a new era for Tulsa as they help the community process this generational trauma through music.

‘Fire in Little Africa’ is a powerful and timely project that provides a platform and outlet for the incredibly talented and thriving music community of Tulsa, Oklahoma, said Motown Records Chairman & CEO, Ethiopia Habtemariam. Carrying the legacy of the Black Wall Street community, ‘Fire in Little Africa’ is a body of work filled with purpose and prolific storytelling. I am honored and feel privileged to have Motown Records/Black Forum partner with Dr. View, the Bob Dylan Center and Guthrie Center to release this impactful hip-hop album.

I am honored to be a part of the ‘Fire In Little Africa’ album featuring the musical contributions of young talented local artists from my hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. This tragedy has been suppressed for generations. Charlie Wilson continues, Growing up in Tulsa we named our band, The GAP Band, after Greenwood, Archer and Pine Streets, the wealthiest and most successful African American community in the United States in the early 20th century. I am proud to see a new generation of talented Tulsans continue to tell the story of our ancestors. They are opening the door for many generations to come by shedding light not only on the race massacre but the excellence of the Black Wall Street and Greenwood community.

Stevie Dr. View Johnson, PhD, Manager, Education & Diversity Outreach at the Woody Guthrie Center|Bob Dylan Center and the album’s executive producer added, Fire in Little Africa has evolved into a communal hip hop movement and we’re excited that we get to share the flavor, history and legacy of Black Wall Street with the world, in collaboration with the amazing leadership of the Motown/Black Forum family. We’re grateful for Ethiopia’s foresight in providing us an opportunity to share our important stories with the world. There are Black Wall Streets across the diaspora and we unequivocally know that ‘Fire in Little Africa’ will inspire many people. In the words of Steph Simon, ‘everything is us.’

In this feature Rolling Stone noted, ‘Fire in Little Africa’ is poised to teach the world about that long-suppressed history, from locals who grew up in a community that still lives with the aftermath of the massacre. Just as important, the artists involved in the project also hope it serves as a launching-pad moment for Tulsa’s hip-hop scene, which has long flown under the national radar.

The album was recorded in Greenwood over a five-day period in March 2020. Studios were set up at the Greenwood Cultural Center and other locations, including the former home of 1921 massacre mastermind/KKK leader Tate Brady. The house is now owned by former NFL first-round draft pick and Tulsa native Felix Jones. The Tulsa World was on hand to speak with the artists involved in the historic sessions. Read the article HERE and check out the accompanying video HERE.

‘Fireside with Dr. View’ is a weekly podcast featuring Dr. View in conversation with thought leaders in activism, academia and culture, centered on the movement behind the Fire in Little Africa music. Listen to Fireside with Dr. View HERE. Hosts Ali Shaw and Doc Free sit down with Fire in Little Africa artists, Tulsa community leaders and national voices for conversations on music and culture in the Fire in Little Africa podcast, which can be found HERE.

Located in the Tulsa Arts District, the Woody Guthrie Center opened in 2013. The Bob Dylan Center is expected to open on the same block within the next year. Both are projects of the George Kaiser Family Foundation, the primary funder for Fire in Little Africa. The album is chronicled in a documentary film, which will be released later this year.

Fire in Little Africa marks the first new material released by Black Forum since the label’s relaunch earlier this year. Black Forum originally debuted in 1970 with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Why I Oppose The War In Vietnam, which won a GRAMMY Award for Best Spoken Word Album. The label reissued Dr. King’s influential speech earlier this year.

Hotboii × Future

HOTBOII TEAMS WITH FUTURE FOR “NOBODY SPECIAL”

Watch the video for “Nobody Special” HERE

Hotboii is set to make his major festival debut at Rolling Loud Miami in July

Rising Florida rap star Hotboiihas teamed with Atlanta legend Future for new song and video, “Nobody Special.” The track is only Hotboii’ssecond new single since his critically and commercially acclaimed 2020 project, Double O Baby, and it arrivesas the MC prepares for his highly anticipated performance at Rolling Loud Miami. Watch the video, which premiered exclusively on COMPLEX this morning, above or listen to the track HERE.

“Nobody Special,” finds Hotboii going bar-for-bar with one of rap’s great stylists without batting an eye. His 2020 releases—which also included Kut da Fan On—announced Hotboii’s arrival among rap’s elite, and “Nobody Special” solidifies that notion. His melodically tinged flow floats across the beat as he spits bars about trust and loyalty: “If you stand for nothing, you fall for anything/I almost said I loved her, I told her anything.”

The song’s video, directed by Jon J. Visuals, finds Hotboii sporting his signature vertical dreads and chains, clearly feeling himself, and with good reason. “Nobody Special” is bound to be one of the songs of the summer, especially with Future’s magnetic guest verse and charismatic appearance in the video.

“Nobody Special” follows an undeniable run for Hotboii. After the release of his two celebrated projects from last year, Kut da Fan On and Double O Baby, Hotboii shared the standout “Fuck Shit” in February. Along the way, the young MC has racked up praise from tastemaking outlets like Complex, who wrote: “Hotboii can do it all.” With this year shaping up to be even stronger than his 2020—as he prepares for Rolling Loud Miami 2021, July 23-25, and sends songs like “Nobody Special” out into the world—it’s looking like we’re heading into a Hotboii summer.

ABOUT HOTBOII

At just 15 years of age, Hotboii discovered his natural musical talent and began to craft his own verses as an emotional outlet. Hailing from West Orlando, Hotboii is one of the most exciting new rappers to emerge from his hometown’s scene and is poised to take the rest of the world by storm. In early 2020, the cultural hitmaker released his full-length debut project Kut Da Fan On – a powerhouse 17-track album that accumulated millions of streams within the first month of its release. In December, he released his sophomore effort, Double O Baby which immediately received widespread acclaim from the likes of PITCHFORK, XXL, COMPLEX, and more for the versatility his music. Standout track from the project “Left Lonely” landed him on coveted playlists including Spotify’s “Release Radar” and Apple Music’s “Hip Hop Hits”.

With cosigns of major hip hop heavyweights for the vulnerability he expresses throughout his music, Hotboii has officially earned his place as “Florida’s Next Up” as dubbed by COMPLEX. Now at over 240M overall streams and over 130M video views on YouTube, his ascent continues at an exponential rate. Driven by an overwhelming urge to establish himself as a lasting industry heavyweight, Hotboii continues to prove himself as one of the top artists to watch in 2021 and beyond.

ABOUT FUTURE

2020’s High Off Life was Future’s first solo LP since The Wizrd, released in January 2019. It sported the hit singles “Crushed Up” and “First Off” with Travis Scott and represented Future’s fifth consecutive No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart. With High Off Life, the Atlanta-bred superstar obtained his seventh such debut. High Off Life has been certified platinum by the RIAA.

Since the beginning of 2020, Future has been moving with a renewed vigor. Just 10 days into the year he released “Life Is Good” with Drake, yet another championship ring for the What A Time To Be Aliveduo, which notched its highest Billboard Hot 100 placement (No. 2) to date with the track and resulted in a Grammy nomination for the “Life is Good” video.

Future followed “Life Is Good” by delivering a handful of his critically acclaimed mixtapes (Beast Mode56 NightsPurple Reign) to DSPs in April, an outcome his devoted fanbase has long clamored for. It’s allowed him to reflect on a legendary run from the decade prior while setting his sights on the one ahead.

Paris Jackson – adagio

Paris Jackson surprises fans with the release of a new song “adagio” featuring Manchester Orchestra today. Listen to “adagio” HERE.

The track unfolds as a simmering psychedelic slow burn. Embers of distortion glow underneath Paris’s hypnotic delivery as she locks into an unbreakable groove with Manchester Orchestra. Clocking in at just shy of seven minutes, the track culminates on a moment of empowering and entrancing catharsis. Once again, she illuminates the scope of her sweeping and soaring vision. The accompanying music video brings this emotional push-and-pull to life in vivid fashion as well.

Paris has consistently collaborated with Manchester Orchestra’s Andy Hull. He notably co-wrote and produced her 2020 full-length debut album, wilted.

Upon release, wilted hit #1 on the iTunes Alternative Albums Chart and was praised by NPR, Rolling Stone, Billboard, Associated Press, Entertainment Weekly, E! News, People, NME, NYLON, Refinery29, WWD and more. Rolling Stone hailed the album as “well-crafted indie-pop,” while NME described it as “11 intimate songs that’ll fit like your favourite sweater.”

About Paris Jackson

While Paris hails from one of the most successful families in music history, she is best known for her activism, acting and modeling work. The latter of which has seen her front campaigns for international brands like Calvin Klein, grace the cover of top fashion magazines and make her runway debut earlier this year at Jean-Paul Gaultier’s final show. On the acting front, Paris has taken on several TV and film roles, collaborating with acclaimed industry professionals, including Lee Daniels, Charlize Theron, Joel Edgerton, and Rachel Winters. Aside from music, Paris’ biggest passion has always been in using her platform to shine light on causes important to her, notably going off script while presenting at the Grammy Awards and MTV VMAs, to highlight the Dakota Access Pipeline and events of racial injustice in Charlottesville, respectively. Paris also serves as an Ambassador for the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF) and is passionate about continuing her godmother’s legacy of ridding the stigma and finding a cure for the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

We were so thrilled for the opportunity to work with Devon Allman on Soaking Wet. It was truly a blast from start to finish. About River Kittens

River Kittens, Allie Vogler and Mattie Schell sound like they’ve been singing together their entire lives. They sing like angels and fight like sisters, even though the pair first met and sang together at a metal bar in 2014. They’re salty and sweet, and sometimes sour too, but their two unique approaches blend together perfectly. River Kittens’ effortless harmonies and honest songwriting can move an audience to laughter or tears, sometimes both.

New Book on the Volkswagen Type 4: 411 and 412

There’s a new book out now via Veloce Books about the Volkswagen Type 4 by Marc Cranswick, going over everything from the history to the specifications on the vehicles. Sections from the book have been provided below. You can purchase the book HERE.

“If ever there was a car in search of a context and market, it was the VW Type 4. Volkswagen’s first foray into the upscale sector brought engineering innovation to Wolfsburg. It also tried to convince worldwide buyers that VW still had the right stuff. With design origins in the Porsche consultancy, the signs were hopeful. However, globally, the automarket was rapidly changing.”

“The VW Type 4’s portfolio ran to unitary construction and fuel injection, but had to face fancy competition from Detroit’s European subsidiaries. All the while, VW was searching for its future road, and faced challenging developments. The fuel crisis and Japanese competition in North America kept the pressure on at Wolfsburg.”

“The Type 4 411 and 412 held to VW tradition, while introducing new engineering directions and refinements. VW’s biggest ever car faced off against mainstream competition.”

“It was also Volkswagen’s first mid-size car and it’s final design in a thirty year air-cooled odyssey.”

“Could the VW 411 and 412’s solid traditional virtues carry the day? Then and now the Type 4’s unbreakable VW quality, and flat out sustainability, appealed to air cooled devotees. The 411 and 412 brought a new dimension in comfort to VW, and its hardware design was utilized by the air cooled clan both on and off road. The Type 4 even had a sportscar connection, and never lost the power to surprise.”

23 yo Londoner Delilah Montagu today returns with her brand-new single Coming For Ya out now. On Coming For Ya, Delilah discovers a new acceptance in her own sexuality, whilst in the official video she explores real life couples of all sexualities and backgrounds; I’ve had girlfriends and boyfriends, but I don’t identify strongly with being gay, straight or bisexual, says Delilah. I now know that this fluidity can be freeing. It doesn’t mean I’m confused and I don’t need a label.

On the new single Delilah has also enlisted the talents of the Billie Eilish approved TikTok sensation Towa Bird who helps fuel the explosion of expression via her killer guitar riffs.

Listen to Coming For Ya HERE. Watch the official video for Coming For Ya HERE.

About Delilah Montagu

Debut EP In Gold introduced Delilah in 2019 with its pensive soulful rumination on coming-of-age. This energy soon flourished further with the release of this year’s This Is Not A Love Song EP and it’s streaming hit Loud, produced with Robin Hannibal (Drake, Rhye, Anderson. Paak). Reeling from her performance of Drive (a collaboration with Black Coffee – #1 most streamed domestic single on Spotify ever in South Africa) at the online Global Citizen concert, curated by Lady Gaga – Delilah then released singles Version Of Me, Loud and Us, all garnering critical acclaim from the likes of The Sunday Times Culture, i-D, The Independent, Wonderland, Numero, The Guardian and L’Officiel to name a few.

Influenced by the likes of Leonard Cohen, Phoebe Bridgers, Carole King, Arlo Parks, Lizzo, Bon Iver and St. Vincent, Delilah is taking a total departure from the melancholy, to just fucking express yourself on her latest project. Written and produced with Benjy Gibson, and featuring collaborations with Fred again… and guitarist Towa Bird, the forthcoming BABY EP will be the soundtrack to your post-lockdown freedom as Delilah matures dramatically both as a songwriter and as a person.
