Sometimes the journey is tough. So much so that as a result of the pandemic, I learned the hard way that people aren´t forever, but art is. Unfortunately, I’ve lost loved ones, I’ve even lost myself. Life, despite everything, is astounding and unexpected, and we must accept it as such. In these difficult events, painting was the only way I could cope with these tragic circumstances, and it has been quite an experience. So, in this collection, I´m taking the human form by a different approach. What does it mean? The rest is up to you.
Born and raised in Chihuahua, Mexico, Frida is an artist and architect. In her works, she experiments with a wide range of different techniques, especially oil on canvas. Her paintings can be described as abstract and colorful compositions. Frida’s work can be found on Instagram.

Traveling in a time of COVID – How Parnell Pharmaceuticals nasal spray can help protect travelers.
As many are starting to venture out on vacations and air travel the must have items to take include hand sanitizer, and disinfecting wipes but recent research has shown that nasal sprays can help protect against some viruses. Especially during this critical time when many are still hesitant to be vaccinated, consumers will look to products such as these to provide an extra layer of protection.
A successful ENT specialist and a board-certified dermatologist took their talents to develop, manufacture, and market prescription and OTC products that maintain and restore mucosal and skin integrity. These nasal sprays, mouth sprays and wipes are the must have products for consumers to arm themselves to combat viruses, bacteria and provide another layer of protection against COVID-19.
Dr. Francis Parnell, a practicing Otolaryngology-Head and Neck (ENT) Surgeon for over 30 years is Chairman and C.E.O. of Parnell Pharmaceuticals, the pharmaceutical company he co-founded. In 1986 with his wife Dr. Diana Parnell. Diana Parnell is a board-certified dermatologist with extensive experience and expertise in cosmetic and laser surgery as well as general dermatology and head of Cosmetic and Laser Surgery Institute, Kentfield, CA. Together the couple bring years of consumer health experience, treating patients and developing oral, nasal and personal care products so that consumers could have options to protect themselves.
Parnell Pharmaceuticals announced the development of the topical nasal spray called Nomovid. Nomovid is based upon a substance licensed by Parnell from New Mexico Tech University to treat drug-resistant bacteria and fungi such as MRSA and Candida auris.
Our products provide an extra layer of antiseptic protection which is so helpful especially for those who travel frequently. Since it breaks down lipids in the viral envelope, we tested the nasal spray against the novel coronavirus, says Parnell. An independent, outside laboratory has confirmed our findings and found it to be greater than 99.7 % effective in vitro within five minutes against the SARS-CoV-2 virus which causes COVID-19.
Parnell’s newest patented product,Mouth Kote-MD Mouth Spray, contains MycoDelens and Natural Yerba Santa and has been shown with in vitro laboratory testing to be an effective antiseptic against Antimicrobial Resistant (AMR) pathogens including bacteria, fungi, and coronaviruses such as the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Mouth Kote-MD is an excellent pre-rinse before dental exams to help prevent COVID-19 and, in addition, it helps dry mouth and restores enamel. It has also been shown to be effective as well against Streptococcus mutans, a major cause of dental caries (cavities) and Candida albicans (yeast).
For the convenience of travel, individually packaged DermSol-MD® Antiseptic Face & Body wipes were developed specifically for topically decontaminating dangerous viruses like Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Antimicrobial Resistant (AMR) bacteria like MRSA. They moisturize the skin and contain natural Yerba santa.Unlike standard wipes and sanitizers, DermSol-MD® is free from alcohol, biocides, and other toxic chemicals and it does not cause skin irritation and destroy skin cells. Conveniently packaged and individually wrapped they are perfect for on the go.
For more information about the product please visit Parnell’s website.
In addition, as viral infections tend to start in the nasal passages, keeping the nose healthy can protect against colds, flu and respiratory issues. Parnell offers the following travel tips:
Especially during this challenging time….if required, always wear your mask to cover your nose and mouth. As airplane and summer travel season picks up, have a travel kit ready before you board or head out on an adventure – extra masks, sanitizing wipes and nasal spray
Keep nasal passages moist – Parnell’s Pretz-MD/Nomovid Saline Nasal Spray adds an extra layer of protection even if you are vaccinated
Drink water, stay hydrated – always so important when it comes to cold/flu season. Fluids can help avoid dehydration especially with air travel.
Many medications (e.g. decongestants) can contribute to nasal dryness.
Humidifiers are great in the home to keep the air moist and nasal passages healthy There are some travel sized ones that are perfect to take along with you on your trip.
Parnell Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a closely held, private pharmaceutical company founded in 1986 and headquartered in San Rafael, California with an office in Dublin, Ireland. The company develops, manufactures, and markets prescription and OTC drug products that maintain and restore mucosal and skin integrity. The products are natural-based and patented for oral and nasal care, personal care, and anti-infective use. Parnell products are marketed and distributed in North America and Europe. The Salvation Army Camden Kroc Center Hosts6th Annual Garbage Bag Gala
Unique virtual fashion show featuring recycled materials supports upcoming programs assisting local families at the Kroc Center.
The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Camden will hold its 6th Annual Garbage Bag Gala Fashion Showon Friday, June 4, in support of programs helping local families at the Kroc Center. This year’s gala will be hosted virtually, with the runway fashion show taking place at the Kroc Center and attendees watching from home through a livestream.
COVID has been a time of great pivot for The Salvation Army in meeting emerging needs in evolving ways. The GBG really aims to help us deliver these services in more robust and powerful ways through our Camden ministry. A few stats from The Salvation Army in Camden:
Between onsite and mobile food pantry, in Camden we are on pace for distributing 1,200,000 pounds of food in 2021 to families in great need, this will be an all-time service poundage high!
Every year, we serve 20,000 individuals or more directly in with a holistic approach including mind, body, spirit and community-building. This includes a wide variety of offerings including sports leagues, swim lessons, fitness classes, Bible studies and worship, open gym sports like basketball, open swim and water park visits, fitness center visits, seniors wellness programming and fellowship, arts and dance experiences, and so much more.
This past Thanksgiving and Christmas Season, we served over 1,900 families with food, Christmas toys, gift cards and blessing packages within our Christmas Railroad experience! This includes serving 3,747 children (11,149 toys) within families including 6,826 individuals total.
We have reached the 10,000th vaccination at our COVID-19 vaccination center onsite, in partnership with Cooper University Health Care (celebration this coming Saturday)! From the beginning, our site was designated as an education center as well and for health equity only serves (underserved) City residents.
In a regular year, we host nearly 500 events to serve the community in diverse and powerful ways. These events include family-hosted events, community meetings, interfaces with government agencies, health fairs, job fairs, dance recitals, movie nights in the pool, family dinners, youth nights, and more. Of note, special events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Member & Friends Tree Lighting, the Harvest Festival/GLOW Party and Krocfest Event will typically host 800-1,200 individuals in a span of a few hours.
This event was inspired by our Camden Women’s ministries and the leadership of the event over the years has really pushed the bounds of this event to be “high couture” and an amazing show and experience. Upcycling, sustainability and inclusivity are key themes of the show and flexibility/pivoting to create beauty is a powerful motivator.
Sponsored by The Beringer Group, Platinum Sponsors: Agent06, New Jersey American Water, PSE&G; Gold Sponsors: Subaru, Foundation Title, Hardenbergh Insurance Group, this awe-inspiring runway show will showcase fashions created from recycled and unconventional materials, even garbage bags. Approximately 20 garments created by fashion design students from Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts and Design will be featured in the annual fashion show, which is being produced by acclaimed red-carpet designer, Project Runway runner-up and judge, Nancy Volpe Beringer.
For the first time ever, several well-known journalists from local television and radio stations have volunteered to serve as celebrity models during the show. Confirmed celebrity models include Cecily Tynan, Chief Meteorologist from 6abc Action News; Llarisa Abreu, Meteorologist from CBS 3 Eyewitness News; Jennifer Lewis-Hall, host and producer of PHL17’s public affairs program, In Focus; and Joy Soto, Community Voices & Engagement Fellow, WHYY.
Tickets can be purchased for $99 beginning May 1 and the first purchasers will receive a party pack with fun backdrop designs and other items to use at home while watching. Virtual attendees of this year’s Garbage Bag Gala are invited to participate virtually throughout the event, with attendees being shown on a wall of monitors behind the runway. Those who feel adventurous are invited to dress in theme by creating a garment, gown or accessory made from recycled materials and posting a photo on their social media channels with the hashtag #GBG21.
“The Garbage Bag Gala is a one-of-a-kind fashion show that spotlights rejuvenation and inclusion,” said Kroc Center Associate Administrator Captain Pamela Maynor. “We’re very excited to showcase the hard work and talent of these extraordinary designers, all to help support amazing local families impacted by a most challenging year.”
“The Kroc Center truly does incredible work to serve a struggling population. So many special events have been missed during COVID, we knew we needed to make this 6th year the best ever,” says Garbage Bag Gala Committee Chairperson, Angela Barnshaw.

The Prince Georges Cultural Arts Foundation, a registered 501(c)3, in partnership with National Harbor, and a variety of returning sponsors led by Xfinity, announced plans to bring back one of the DMV’s top live performance music events, the Lake Arbor Jazz Festival. The format of the LAJF, a historic festival now in its 11th year, will be modified to a summer outdoor concert series. This concert series has been formatted to reflect music lovers’ appetite to slowly return to live performances in an intimate, safe environment at one of the most accessible, family-friendly and popular entertainment destinations in the region.
Hosted again by seasoned DMV broadcast personality Tony Richards, this much anticipated Summer Concert Series will be held over a five-week period beginning on Thursday, July 1, 2021 through Sunday, August 1 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at National Harbor’s majestic outdoor venue, Southpointe (701 National Harbor Blvd.) Under a covered tent overlooking the National Harbor Marina, this year’s performers are a who’s who of smooth jazz and R&B that include Najee, Avery Sunshine, Jeff Bradshaw, Maysa, Nick Collione, Gerald Albright, Norman Brown along with DMV region favorites Brian Lenair, the String Queens, Pink Palish and Phaze II.
After a challenging year of pivoting, planning and prayer, LAJF, along with our like-minded community partners, wanted to play a leading role in carefully shepherding our residents and music enthusiasts across the region, back into a welcoming and safe setting to relax and allow the power of music to bring us all back to a place of healing, joy and peace, said Kevin Alexander, LAJF founder and president of the Prince Georges Cultural Arts Foundation.
We’re very excited to have this great musical lineup at National Harbor to enhance our summer of music, said Jackie Saunders, AVP of marketing for National Harbor. Guests can pair a concert with dining, shopping and all of the other attractions around National Harbor to make it a full summer getaway experience. And it couldn’t be better timing with Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center re-opening July 1—right next door to the concert venue. National Harbor has a variety of overnight packages and offers.
For over a decade, LAJF has become the region’s preferred jazz destination featuring noted national jazz recording artists along with some of the region’s most accomplished musicians. Since its inception in 2010, LAJF has drawn over 50,000 attendees and awarded more than $40,000 in educational scholarships to deserving Prince George’s County students pursuing college education in the visual and performing arts. This one-of-a-kind event brings together a diverse audience of contemporary and traditional jazz music lovers, young and old, for an unforgettable music experience with fans coming from as far away as New York and North Carolina.

In a cultural landscape filled with endless pundits and talking heads, Fran Lebowitz stands out as one of our most insightful social commentators. She will be at Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre, for “An Evening with Fran Lebowitz,” on April 15, 2022. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 28th and are available HERE.
Lebowitz’s essays and interviews offer her acerbic views on current events and the media – as well as pet peeves about tourists, baggage-claim areas, after-shave lotion, adults who roller skate, children who speak French, or anyone who is unduly tan. The New York Times Book Review calls Lebowitz an “important humorist in the classic tradition.” Purveyor of urban cool, Lebowitz is a cultural satirist whom many call the heir to Dorothy Parker.
Her writing — pointed, taut and economical — is forthright, irascible, and unapologetically opinionated.
Lebowitz worked odd jobs, such as taxi driving, belt peddling, and apartment cleaning (“with a small specialty in Venetian blinds”), before being hired by Andy Warhol as a columnist for Interview. That was followed by a stint at Mademoiselle. Her first book, a collection of essays titled Metropolitan Life, was a bestseller, as was a second collection, Social Studies. By turns ironic, facetious, deadpan, sarcastic, wry, wisecracking, and waggish, Lebowitz’s prose is wickedly entertaining. Her two books are collected in the Fran Lebowitz Reader, with a new preface by the author. Lebowitz is also the author of the children’s book, Mr. Chas and Lisa Sue Meet the Pandas.
Between 2001 to 2007, Lebowitz had a recurring role as Judge Janice Goldberg on the television drama Law & Order. She also had a part in the Martin Scorsese-directed film, The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). In an interview with the Paris Review, Lebowitz said “I’m not a nervous person. I’m not afraid to be on TV. I’m only afraid when I write. When I’m at my desk I feel like most people would feel if they went on TV.”
She can also be seen in various documentary films including the American Experience on New York City, as well as Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures (2016), Regarding Susan Sontag (2014), and Superstar: The Life and Times of Andy Warhol (1990), among others. In 2010 Martin Scorsese directed a documentary about Lebowitz for HBO titled Public Speaking. A new limited documentary series, Pretend It’s a City, also directed by Martin Scorsese, premieres on Netflix January 8, 2021.
Lebowitz was once named one of the year’s most stylish women by Vanity Fair. She remains a style icon. Lebowitz lives in New York City, as she does not believe that she would be allowed to live anywhere else.

GLASS ANIMALS DELIVER DREAMY PERFORMANCE OF “HEAT WAVES” ON BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS
Last night, Glass Animals delivered their first-ever U.S. awards show performance, as they took the outdoor stage at the Billboard Music Awards in Los Angeles to perform their global smash hit Heat Waves live. The band has been delivering some of the most colorful and creative live performances throughout quarantine, and last night did not disappoint. Featuring a pastel art sculpture by French artist Cyril Lancelin titled pyramid pillows, the band gave a signature, high-energy performance to a live audience of vaccinated fans. Not only was this Glass Animals’ first-ever U.S. awards show, but it was also their first live U.S. performance since their last show pre-Covid lockdown in March 2020 at Los Angeles’ iconic Troubadour.
The Billboard Music Awards performance caps a very exciting week for the band. Last Thursday, they released a collaboration with fast-rising UK popstar Bree Runway on their huge track Space Ghost Coast To Coast, taken from their acclaimed 2020 album Dreamland. The band also recently dropped a trippy video for the song. Not to mention, last week Glass Animals were announced as a performer on Good Morning America’s 2021 Summer Concert Series lineup – tune in on Tuesday, July 20th on ABC. Glass Animals are gearing up for their North American Dreamland Tour, which sold over 130,000 tickets in just 3 days and is quickly selling out with new shows being added. The run kicks off August 30th in Lewiston, NY and takes the band across North America well into 2022. The shows add to their already sold-out UK tour dates, previously announced 2022 Red Rocks shows and confirmed festival performances at Bonnaroo, Life Is Beautiful, Firefly Festival, Outside Lands and more.
Dreamland, the band’s hugely popular third full-length album, entered UK charts on its opening week at #2 (their highest ever scoring chart position, a massive 21 spots above their last album, Mercury Prize nominated How To Be A Human Being) and charted inside the top 10 in the US, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland. The album clocked up 160 million streams in its first week of release.
Glass Animals have experienced their most successful year to date, with their hit Heat Waves being crowned #1 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 – an accolade not given to a UK band since 2009 with previous winners including Kendrick Lamar and Billie Eilish – receiving a sync placement on FIFA, then an organic Minecraft affiliation, whereby the YouTuber LoverFella (2.45M subscribers) rebuilt a Glass Animals fan’s base and surprised her with a meet and greet with the band who were waiting inside. Heat Waves peaked at #1 on the Alternative Radio Chart for 3 consecutive weeks, a first for Glass Animals in their career. The track currently nears the Top 15 on the Top 40 Radio Chart and is making similar moves at Hot AC and AAA. Heat Waves held the #1 spot on the ARIA Official Singles Chart in Australia for 6 consecutive weeks, marking the band’s first #1 single globally and the longest #1 in 2021 for Australia. It has had over 530 million combined streams, and to date, “Heat Waves” peaked at over 2 million daily streams and has received over 23 million views of the video on YouTube. Glass Animals hit a new Spotify monthly listener peak of 18.4 million, surpassing the likes of Tame Impala, Gorillaz, The 1975 and The Strokes.

Van Eaton Galleries, the Sherman Oaks based auction house specializing in Disney memorabilia and animation, and recognized authority on all things Disney, has announced that a Disneyland Sleeping Beauty Castle Mosaic (circa 1970s) has just sold for an astonishing final price at auction of $363,000. The original auction estimate was $30,000-$50,000. Van Eaton Galleries held the two-day “Rediscovering Disneyland” auction this weekend which represented one of the most significant and comprehensive collections of early Disney Theme Parks artifacts and Disney related memorabilia ever assembled with over 1,200 items.
The handcrafted mosaic that was part of the original Sleeping Beauty Castle before it was renovated in 1983. The massive, hand-crafted artwork consisting of hundreds of individual tiles features an image of Sleeping Beauty and Prince Phillip and is an actual piece of the Original Sleeping Beauty Castle. This wall mounted artwork was a prominent installation within the early years of Fantasyland and was removed around the time of the massive New Fantasyland refurbishment of 1983. The tiles remain set in their cement with original mesh wire backing. It is an original section of the walls of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland and measures 36” x 44.” It is a true one-of-a-kind Disneyland relic.
