Q×A with Jerrimiah James

This holiday season, 360 Magazine had the chance to converse with up and coming sustainable designer and entrepreneur Jerry Buckner. Read our interview below, as well as about the brand, based in Atlanta

1. What was your defining moment regarding understanding the impact of the fashion industry on the environment?

My defining moment… After reading the report “A New Textiles Economy: Redesigning Fashion’s Future,” I realized two things; first, I tied success to wastefulness and secondly it didn’t matter what fight I was fighting, gay, black, growing up disadvantaged… none of it mattered if there wasn’t a planet with conditions healthy enough for the good fight to be won. I realized at the end of the day the throne means nothing because winter is coming.

2. What are your thoughts on the rise of the “eco-conscious” shopper? Is it a fad?

I think it’s going to take a complete dismantling and a rise is not the same as an overthrowing. Is it a fad? The better question would be can we afford another fad if it is?

3. Is eco-conscious retail inherently a luxury?

No not at all. When we know better we do better. Moreover, then we are more likely to do what is right. I’ve had the opportunity through my company Jerrimiah James to outfit men and women in pieces that they could otherwise not afford and here is how. When I select pieces from the closets of friends who have the luxury of shopping extensively I share with them the cost paid for these pieces to wind up in their closets unworn. It’s not about guilt its about empowering clients to share for the planet’s sake.

4. How has the Atlanta community responded to the venture?

It could not be better received. I’ve been asked to speak on the radio, participate in panel discussions, held a call to action event and have also gained the support of many Atlanta Influencers. I still have a long way to go before I have catapulted Atlanta to the forefront of the global fashion industry’s sustainability concern, but with continued support from the city in my endeavor to bring a“wear”ness to this issue I am confident I will make the experience of resale and rental a more desirable experience

5. Where do you see yourself and your company in five years?

In the next five years I see myself as a prominent voice and force in circularity in retail as well as an advocate for transparency in fashion, and for policy that does not allow for the creation of a product at the expense of the creator, that is planet earth.

6. Who are your style heroes?

It’s a privilege to wear the clothes, attend the parties, and meet the men and women instrumental in the Fashion culture. I’m grateful. If clothing brings us together then there must be enough minds in this group to solve the problems caused by the production of it. My style heroes are the men and women, shoppers and creative directors, courageous enough to go against the flock. Brands like Stella McCartney, Brother Vellies, Reformation, Grailed, and Toms.

JERRIMIAH JAMES LAUNCHED AS ECO-CONSCIOUS RETAILER AIMING TO SPREAD A “WEAR” NESS

Buckner, founder of Jerrimiah James, has been in the fashion industry for over 10 years and has navigated the realm of high-end retail, moving within circles of influence and affluence. While outfitting the lifestyles of an upscale clientele including entrepreneurs, high profile actors, actresses, models, music artists and well-known athletes, Buckner gained an acute awareness of the connection between a steady increase in sales of designer garments and the subsequent discarding of those garments. Buckner realized how significantly a “single-use” wardrobe item contributes to the global waste problem. The textile industry, Buckner discovered, uses an incredible volume of non-renewable resources to produce clothing that is eventually lost to landfill and incineration. Additionally, nearly 93 billion cubic meters of water annually and 20% of global industrial water pollution can be attributed to the dyeing and treatment of textile products.

The over-consumption and underutilization of clothing led to Buckner’s founding of Jerrimiah James which creates a new standard for conscientious consumers by providing the opportunity for luxury shopping resale and rental. As a membership resale and rental fashion service, Jerrimiah James caters to Atlanta-based influencers, artists and creatives. This format emphasizes garment sharing through a platform that introduces a meeting of both the minds and style.

“I had never given it thought before and, that was concerning because I find that the things that often cause the most damage are the things that we do thoughtlessly. Our vision of a planet as beautiful as the fashion we wear is a real possibility if we bridge the gap by creating circularity in our use of apparel,” states Buckner. “Circularity is the new black!”

Through this peer-to-peer e-commerce wardrobe platform, Buckner introduces the street fashion individual and environmental enthusiast, an opportunity for consumers to choose the pieces that will make the experience a lasting one and a sustainable solution for the planet.

In 2020 Jerrimiah James was named as a finalist in The Fashion Group International’s 24th Annual Rising Star Awards’ “New Retail Concept” category.

ABOUT ROLE MODEL

Rather than presenting some unobtainable ideal, ROLE MODEL – a.k.a. Tucker Pillsbury – finds a perfect hybrid of observant hip-hop, clever pop, and cinematic alternative inside of his own personality flaws, cracks, and imperfections. With nearly 70 million total streams by 2020 and acclaim from i-D, HIGHSNOBIETY, Complex, and more, this approach consistently endears him to fans and tastemakers alike. Born and raised in Portland, ME, Tucker originally planned on pursuing a career in filmmaking, but it was during his freshman year at a film school in Pittsburgh where he discovered his passion for music. The Best Car Alarm Systems for Your Vehicle: 7 Great Choices

In 2019 there were roughly 721,000 vehicles stolen. Those thefts encompassed everything from cars to motorcycles.

Vehicle thefts can be costly, not only for drivers but for insurance companies. That then raises coverage rates which again, costs drivers additional money.

While there are several strategies you can use to reduce your odds of being a car theft victim, few are as effective as installing the best car alarm system you can get your hands on. There are a lot of car alarm systems on the market today. Few though will give you the quality and price you’re looking for in a protection solution.

If you’re curious to know which alarm you should invest your money in, keep reading. Below, our team breaks down a handful of excellent choices.

1. Pyle Car Alarm System

One of the best car alarm systems on the market today is also one of the most hotly mentioned car alarms on the internet. We’re talking about the Pyle Car Alarm System.

When you pop open your Pyle alarm box, you’ll see a couple of key fobs, a bit of wiring, and three accessories you’ll need to leverage to get your system running. Once your set up is in place, you’ll enjoy car jack protection, panic mode, and an ignition kill switch.

The Pyle system also has special modes like valet mode as well as an override switch that can help you get your car going again if your alarm is overzealous in its protection.

2. Compustar CS7900

Coming in at just under $200, the Compustar CS7900 is another wonderful system that’s worth your investment. Immediately, you’ll notice its key fob’s digital display which can make unlocking and checking on the status of your car a blast.

In addition to that fun feature, you’ll enjoy a car unlock range of 3000 feet, compatible impact sensors that can make your alarm more proficient at warding off thieves, and an alarm siren that reaches 105 decibels!

3. CarLock 2nd Gen

One of the biggest barriers people run into when considering the installation of some of the best car alarms is how hard alarms can be to install. The CarLock 2nd Gen takes that concern and obliterates it.

With the CarLock 2nd Gen, all you have to do to get protected is plug its dongle into your vehicle’s OBD port. Just like that, your car will be able to alert you to suspicious activity on your phone and can be tracked.

The downside with the CarLock is that it can be disabled by unplugging it. That can put your vehicle at higher risk but on the plus side, you won’t have to read this article to find affordable installers to help you get this device up and running.

4. CrimeStopper

If bang for your buck is at the top of your best car security alarm system want list, check out the CrimeStopper. In addition to having one of the most attractive brand names in the car alarm market, the car stopper package comes with two key fobs, a starter kill that can stop thieves from hot-wiring, and can even be used to work on two separate cars.

You read that right! This alarm system and its key fobs are capable of being synced with up to two vehicles which can provide a level of protection for both of your cars (assuming you have two) that are parked in the same driveway.

5. Avital 5303L

If your car isn’t capable of remote starting and climate reconfiguration the Avital 5303L can bring your vehicle up to speed if it’s compatible. That means no more getting in your car and waiting for the engine or the cabin to warm up before starting your commute.

Of course, in addition to that fun feature, the Avital does offer passive security features including the ability to alert you to suspicious activity should somebody be trying to hotwire your system or gain brute force entry into your car’s cabin.

6. Omega K8 Mundial

Another bang for your buck option that ends up on most of the best car alarm security system lists is the Omega K8 Mundial.

This device has a ridiculous loudspeaker which will definitely scare anybody trying to thieve your car away. Also, its transmitter offers ample options (4) which you can customize the behaviors of and control chirp volume on. That chirp volume control can be helpful if you get home late and are eager to not wake your neighbors when arming your system.

Finally, the Omega 8 has key-less settings that enable you to warm your vehicle remotely, much like the Avital 5303L.

7. Viper 5706V

Our last alarm pick is certainly not our worst. As a matter of fact, some would call the Viper 5706V among the best car alarms on the market.

From its digital fob displays to its door and truck triggers and cabin controls, this $300 timeless alarm system is well worth the buy!

It even has a one-mile activation range which can make finding your car with its panic button a breeze in a crowded parking lot.

Any Best Car Alarm System Choice Will Make Your Vehicle Safer

If you have any concern whatsoever that your car could be stolen (and you should) invest in one of the best car alarm system choices we’ve shared. Yes, doing so represents an expense but that expense pales in comparison to the amount of effort you’ll need to put into managing a taken vehicle.

We hope you found this post helpful and welcome you to read more of the content on our blog.

The Band CAMINO have unveiled their new single “Roses,” which is available today on all streaming platforms via dblblk / Elektra Records. Salem Ilese – Marry Christmas

Today, singer/songwriter Salem Ilese releases her festive song “Marry Christmas” just in time for the holidays. Out now via 10K Projects/Homemade Projects, “Marry Christmas” has all the trappings to become a Christmas pop hit with its cheery melody, bright horns, and driving beat. The new single follows up the breakout success of her August 2020 hit, “Mad At Disney” and her November 2020 single “Coke & Mentos.” Gaining significant momentum on TikTok, “Mad At Disney” has sparked the creation of over 3.1M videos and has been streamed 116M+ streams on Spotify and was featured on Spotify’s Today’s Top Hits playlist for over 15 weeks. Another undeniable pop hit, Zane Lowe debuted “Coke & Mentos” on his Apple Music 1 show on November 22. Last week, Salem joined Charli D’Amelio and her family for their own “Coke & Mentos” experiment. Stream “Marry Christmas” and watch Salem’s YouTube video with the D’Amelio’s below.

21-year-old pop artist Salem Ilese has been preparing for this moment her entire life. Born and raised in Mill Valley, CA, right outside San Francisco, the singer/songwriter has been “making music for longer than [she] can remember.” With an innate drive for songwriting, her parents quickly put their precocious daughter into music lessons and introduced her to their favorites, namely, David Bowie and The Beatles. “My Dad likes to consider himself an ‘expert music listener,’” she says, “and even though they aren’t musicians, they made sure I knew the greats. Listening to a lot of Bowie had a huge influence on me because I love pop music, but my taste always veers a little bit left of center.”

Salem attributes her music career to legendary writer Bonnie Hayes, her first songwriting teacher. Credited for creating hit songs for Cher, Bonnie Riatt, David Crosby, Bette Midler and more, Bonnie Hayes immediately saw then-12-year-old Salem’s gift for storytelling; “she took me under her wing. I probably wouldn’t be here without her.”

Hayes eventually moved to Boston to head Berklee College of Music’s songwriting department and shortly thereafter Salem also relocated across the country to enroll in her department. After a couple years of intense learning, Salem made the decision to move back to the West Coast, this time settling down in Los Angeles.

“My biggest fear when dropping out of Berklee was that I wouldn’t be busy enough in LA. I’m the type of person who thrives off of a packed schedule,” she reflects, so the young musician dedicated herself to a strict regimen of songwriting sessions every single day, including weekends, for six months straight in order to make the most out of her move. “Sometimes I’d even do doubles,” she said, “I also did some live shows at night here and there.”

Soon, Salem’s dedicated lifestyle attracted interest from big-name publishing companies, hoping to work with her as a writer. Per the advice of her manager, she held out for something greater – “I started seeing my own music pick up soon after, with a few placements on Spotify playlists New Music Friday and Fresh Finds.” The growing buzz landed Salem in a label bidding war, and she eventually found herself landing with 10K Projects/Homemade Projects in August 2020.

Now, Salem is at work on her first full length project and continues to do writing sessions over Zoom which she admits has been “a little weird.” But the cheerful 21-year-old reassures that she’s still living her dream and would “never have considered any other career for myself, except maybe to be an astronaut when I was three,” she laughs. “I take care of my lizard, and I make music all the time. Things are good.”
