New Music Video for James Vincent McMorrow – Gone

James Vincent McMorrow drops an incredible video for his latest single “Gone,” which is available now via Sony Music UK/RCA Records. Recently, James did a stunning live performance of “Gone” for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’s #PlayAtHome series. The track also premiered as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World on BBC Radio 1 and has since been made Nick Grimshaw’s Tune of the Week.

The arresting video for “Gone” was filmed in one take byGar O’Rourke, and conceived alongside James (who asked that the events on the day remain a surprise, even to him). It’s a playful twist on the turbulent, alternative-pop at the heart of “Gone” –  produced by James alongside Paul Epworth and Moon Willis, what sounds like chaos is actually a song about clarity (“I give less fucks than I used to / still give a lot of fucks“).

“Gone” is one of the biggest and boldest track McMorrow has released to date, but it’s also entirely in line with an artist who has always written with startling honesty, and followed his inspiration simply wherever it takes him. “I have more responsibilities, people and expectations around me than ever, and the world is constantly telling me to change and grow as a person,” he says. “But I don’t feel any more responsible or capable than I did when I was 18 years old. This album is about embracing the idea that it’s okay to not have things figured out.”

A breakthrough moment in an unpredictable career, “Gone” explores themes that are inherent to James Vincent McMorrow’s upcoming album and where he finds himself in life. “Headlights” was the first track released this year off of this forthcoming album. It’s a track written not so much about everything making sense, but making peace with the fact that nothing does. The track’s soulful follow-up, “I Should Go,” which was recorded with fellow genre-collider Kenny Beats (Idles, slowthai, Omar Apollo), was a reminder of James’ rare ability to move as easily between the worlds of hip-hop and R&B as he can the singer-songwriter roots of debut album Early In The Morning (which turned 10 this year).

James Vincent McMorrow is already a platinum-selling act, who has independently clocked up over 750 million streams, reached #1 in his home of Ireland, and seen his music travel everywhere from Drake’s “Views” toGame Of Thrones. With his new album expected early 2021,  an extensive world tour in support of it and stunning performances and videos to come, James Vincent McMorrow continues to deliver through his music’s storytelling and incredibly soulful, raw vocals.

Nielsen’s 2020 TV Inclusion Report

We’re excited to share with you Nielsen’s latest Diverse Intelligence Series report: Being Seen on Screen: Diverse Representation and Inclusion on TV.  In the current day and age, visibility on screen is more powerful than ever. Through Nielsen’s latest report, the clear facts about representation on television are laid out in a clear and coherent way for interested parties.

This is Nielsen’s first ever report that measures the television media landscape’s progress and gaps in on-screen inclusion. The report reviews a variety of underrepresented groups in TV, including women, people of color and LGBTQ+ folks.

Some major takeaways from the report:

  • Hispanic/Latinx women are consistently and significantly less represented across all platforms
  • Across all TV, Native Americans’ share of screen is less that one quarter of their presence in population estimates
  • Of the top 300 programs across broadcast, cable and SVOD, only 2.3% have non-binary representation

From these takeaways, it is clear that although television has moved in a direction of representation, there is still plenty of progress to be made. If Nielsen continues to report this information yearly, it will be interesting to track these developments over time.

Au/Ra – Moon River Cover

Following the release of her single “Ideas” earlier this year and recent feature on Jax Jones’ track “i miss u,” Au/Ra has shared her cover of “Moon River,” which is available now via Columbia Records. Listen HERE.

Originally performed by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the song was written by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer and has been covered by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Louis Armstrong, Frank Ocean and more. Au/Ra has added her unique take on the track, which has a dusky and ethereal edge that is displayed through the visualizer accompanying the track. Watch HERE.

Au/Ra says: “I’ve always loved this song, especially the version sung by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do my own rendition of. During quarantine I thought ‘why not give it a try?’ It was something I just wanted to do for fun with my dad, but we ended up liking it so much that we wanted to make it an actual release for listeners.”

Ibiza-born and Antigua-raised songwriter Au/Ra explores the challenges of being a modern-day teenager, writing music that touches on the issues today’s younger generation face on a daily basis, such as anxiety, communicating in an always online world and having to always show off your best self. Her single before “Ideas” was “Ghost” with Alan Walker, which was part of the Death Standing soundtrack and has been streamed over 32 million times on Spotify alone. “Panic Room,” her Platinum selling hit, was remixed by CamelPhat and stayed in the Top 40 for 9 weeks, amassing 122M streams on Spotify. She was recently featured on Jax Jones’ single “i miss u,” which she performed alongside him on Little Mix’s show The Search and was playlisted at Radio 1, Capitol and Kiss FM, achieving almost 18M streams so far. Watch a live version of the track HERE.

An undercurrent of most of Au/Ra’s deeply visual and evocative lyrics is a sense of escapism, influenced by her fandom of anime and fantasy. Growing up devouring Studio Ghibli films, she’s always loved to disappear into the soft-edged, uncanny world of Miyazaki animations, and uses similar designs to flesh out the visual world of her music. With her lovingly made outsider-pop, Au/Ra is providing a similar kind of space in her song writing: one where misfits feel at home and where the listener gets to peer for a minute through the lens of an artist who has simultaneously grown up outside the system, but who speaks with the zeitgeist of her generation.

Look out for more new music from Au/Ra coming soon!

Primary Wave Music x American Red Cross – “Giving Back” Partnership

American Red Cross and music publishing company Primary Wave Music come together for a new “giving back” partnership that provides the Red Cross access to Primary Wave Music’s extensive library of music catalogs, artists and other content without licensing fees. The relationship kicks off today with the launch of the Red Cross PSA and an accompanying social music video that both beautifully highlight and promote their disaster relief efforts.

Musically, we aim to align ourselves with timeless icons and the team at American Red Cross is beyond that status. They are heroes,” explains Ramon Villa, COO of Primary Wave Music, the home of legends such as Whitney Houston, Bob Marley, Smokey Robinson, Ray Charles, among many others. “This is a very special partnership for our entire team and this collaboration is just the first of many that will continue to develop over years to come.”

WATCH PSA: HERE

The PSA, created by Red Cross creative agency of record BBDO NY, features a custom-recorded rendition (produced by Jon Levine) of Burt Bacharach’s classic hit “What The World Needs Now”, which Primary Wave contributed pro-bono for this holiday campaign. The PSA tells the story of a family who has lost everything in a disaster, yet somehow holds onto hope. The woman continuing to play the piano amidst the ruins of her home is symbolic of how people have persevered through many challenges this past year.

“2020 has been marked with devastation, but also with strength and kindness. Through music, the Red Cross can tell stories about this year that we hope will inspire Americans to help their neighbors in need,” says Selma Bouhl, American Red Cross Vice President of Marketing Strategy & Creative Services.“Primary Wave’s powerful music catalogue and roster of artists will help us shed light on humanitarian needs and hope for the future.”

A passionate, compilation music video featuring Smokey RobinsonLeona LewisTori Kelly, and Sam Fischer all singing together and separately Bacharach’s “What The World Needs Now” accompanies the PSA on social media and will be available for purchase with proceeds going toward American Red Cross. Throughout the video, there is emotional imagery of record-breaking natural disasters that took place throughout 2020 such as the California & Oregon wildfires, Hurricane Delta, Iowa derecho, the Michigan Sag River dam break, and Hurricane Laura.

“It was an honor to cover such a classic Bacharach song and for such a beautiful cause,” states Smokey Robinson. “We have all gone through a lot this year and together with American Red Cross, we were hoping to show that the only thing a disaster can’t destroy is your hope. Please spread the love.”

DAVID BOWIE LP

AVAILABLE FOR THE FIRST TIME AS LIMITED EDITION PICTURE DISC

RELEASED JANUARY 29, 2021 BY UMe/DECCA/DERAM EXCLUSIVELY VIA HERE.

Deram Records originally released David Bowie‘s self-titled debut album on June 1, 1967, the very same day as The Beatles Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band. While it was not a hit at the time, over the past 50 years it’s gained a reputation for being a perfect snapshot of the time and has earned plaudits for being one of the first contemporary pop albums to be sung in an English accent. Bowie himself revisited songs from this era in 2000 re-recording the likes of “Silly Boy Blue” for an album called Toy which remains unreleased.

The album may not have been a huge success but there were music writers who saw something in Bowie, the NME called it “All very refreshing” and that he was “a very promising talent.”

The biography prepared at the time describes David Bowie thus “His remarkable powers of observation enable him to write with humour and wit about the people, loved and unloved, and the attitudes, lovely and unlovely, that constitute today’s society. A recent bout of ‘flu enabled him to pen half a dozen songs to go on a forthcoming Deram LP. In fact, David is one of the very few artists commissioned for an album before a single. Simultaneously, David is writing songs and situations for a colour film in which he is to star and putting the finishing touches to a unique cabaret act.

The album will be released for the first time as picture disc on January 29th and will be made available exclusively HERE.

ABOUT DAVID BOWIE

David Bowie was an English singer-songwriter and actor. He was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, and was acclaimed by critics and musicians for his work during the 1970s. In the UK, he was awarded ten platinum album certifications, eleven gold and eight silver, and released eleven number-one albums. In the US, he received five platinum and nine gold certifications. In addition, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, and Rolling Stone placed him among its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Naming him the “Greatest Rock Star Ever” following his death in 2016.

On April 24, 1992, Bowie married English musician Iman (a Somali fashion model, actress and entrepreneur) in Lausanne, Switzerland.  They have one daughter, Alexandria Zahra Jones, born August 15, 2000 in New York City. Iman is also stepmother to Bowie’s son from a previous marriage, Duncan Jones.

Sadly, on January 10, 2016 Bowie passed away from liver cancer in his New York City apartment. He had been diagnosed 18 months earlier but had not made the news of his illness public. He is a legend that will be remembered for years to come and has permanently left a mark on the music industry.

Gavin James Press Release Photo

Gavin James “Man on the Moon”

With 1.5 billion streams, 5.6 million monthly listeners at Spotify and sold-out arena shows, Gavin James has achieved phenomenal global success by simply letting his songs speak for themselves. He excels at music’s essential qualities: immediately memorable songwriting and telling engaging stories that are delivered with a voice that can seemingly effortlessly hone in on the depth of the sentiment.

Now, however, Gavin James is set to step into the spotlight with arguably his finest moment to date, his brand new track “Man On The Moon.”  Listen HERE and watch the official lyric video HERE.

The emotionally-charged new song tells the story of the desolate loneliness of the “Man On The Moon.” Despite being distanced from the world at large, everyone loved him but he never knew. It’s a powerful metaphor for a love that goes unspoken, but also a story that reflects our current times. Families, couples and friends have spent much of the year separated from the ones that they love, and the song offers a timely reminder that distance can’t break our bonds.

Propelled by little more than delicate acoustic guitar and the tenacious soul of his voice, the song was produced by Gavin and Ollie Green (Freya Ridings) and mixed by Serban Ghenea (Taylor Swift)

“For ‘Man On The Moon,’ I tried to picture someone on the moon, thinking that they are all alone and not realizing that the whole world is thinking about them. It’s about looking after the people you love because some days, they may feel like they have no one to talk to,” explains Gavin. “In particular this year, people might feel more disconnected than usual from their friends and family. This song is a gentle reminder that you are never alone.”

Man On The Moon is released alongside a series of beautifully animated lyric videos. It introduces Man on The Moon: A Collection Of Short Stories, a collection of emotionally compelling short films that further explore the themes of loneliness and separation that Gavin addresses in the song. It comprises the following chapters, which will be shared via Gavin’s social media accounts this Sunday 6th December, with the final part seeing fans create and share their own stories, e.g could be via art, words, animation, music or dance.

Chapter 1: Hedgehogs by Brian An Phan

Chapter 2: The Presence in the Absence by Michelle Jane Williamson.

Chapter 3: Contact by Katy Wang.

Chapter 4: Create your own story

Gavin James’ own story is just as remarkable. Back at school, the Dubliner was told that he’d never achieve anything in music, a story that he recounts in his recent single    Boxes    (a #1 hit on Ireland’s national airplay chart). In time he proved them wrong, as he rose from busking on  Grafton Street to playing shows with  Niall Horan,  Ed Sheeran and  Sam Smith to selling-out his own world tour including two headline shows at the 13,000  capacity 3Arena.

He’s also making a growing international impact, with 22 Platinum records across the world and an unlikely #1 hit in Brazil. Man On The Moon represents his next big step towards even greater global recognition.

Timmy Trumpet Drops Debut Album

Today, global superstar DJ, producer and live instrumentalist Timmy Trumpet releases his highly anticipated debut album MAD WORLD. Inspired by the world we live in; Mad World is the official soundtrack of 2020 – an ode to an era we will never forget.

This 18-track epic collection includes collaborations with R3HAB, Scooter, Vini Vici, Vengaboys and Gabry Ponte, and features 11 brand-new tracks never heard anywhere else before.

“I’ve been a trained Jazz musician and composer most of my life and I’ve been dreaming of the day when I finally release an artist album. I went into this experience with no limitations or expectations on myself or what others may expect from me or have come to know of me” says Timmy.

“This album represents all of me and all of what inspires me the most. The people, my fans, my family, my friends,” Timmy continued. “The people that make everything we go through in life worth it no matter what challenges we face.  They make me who I am, and this is what I have made for them in return. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I’ve loved making it.”

For the album cover, Timmy turned to his fans to help create a collage of pictures that tell the story of what the experiences of this year mean to them. NJOMZA – Lucky

The Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter NJOMZA returns with the tender new single and video Lucky, out now on SinceThe80s/Motown. Listen HERE. The track, built around gospel guitar chords and NJOMZA’s ascendant vocals, is a warm, soul-inflected reminder to hold your loved ones close. She sounds lost and lonely at first, but as the song unfolds, it builds to a kindhearted climax, repeating insistently, “If you love someone let them know.”

Lucky arrives accompanied by a black-and-white video directed by Griffin Olis and NJOMZA. The visual intertwines dreamlike snippets of home-video footage with shots of her laying in the sand. It’s a stirring document of memory and loss, underscoring the songߣs message to not take anything or anyone for granted. Watch it HERE.

For NJOMZA, Lucky is only the latest in a long run of captivating pop songs. In April, she released the gauzy, sensual single Bite, which has garnered over 2.5 million total streams. Over the last few years, sheߣs drawn both critical acclaim and commercial success for her work with Mac Miller who signed her to his REMember Music label when she was a teen and Ariana Grande, with whom she’s co-written hits like 7 Rings and Thank U, Next.

All the while, she’s been twisting up R&B and pop signifiers on her own songs, on singles like 2019’s No One Is Spared and EPs like 2017’s Sad For You and 2018’s Vacation. People are listening too. Over the years, her tracks have racked up over 50 million global streams. As she gears up to release more new music in 2021, Lucky is a winning reminder of what drew people to her in the first place: the emotion and care she’s able to pack into her memorable melodies.
