Moab Arranges Private Excursions

Moab Adventure Center Arranges Private Winter Excursions In Utah’s Arches and Canyonlands

We all need a post-election tonic right now.

Suggestion: A winter road trip that doesn’t throw caution to the pandemic winds.

The red rock playground known as Moab, Utah, welcomes visitors year-round. But few know this region’s virtues in the quiet months of winter. The Moab area has long been renowned for its beautiful, otherworldly scenery that has been attracting filmmakers here since the 1940s. For example, movie buffs can explore miles of Moab that have hit the silver screen. These include, among others, Johnny Depp in the 2013 rendition of The Lone Ranger, Mission Impossible: II (1999) and Thelma and Louise (1990).

If you have a yen to write your own action scripts, the Moab Adventure Center can keep visitors engaged for hours on end in this territory embraced by Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. The Center has a check list of preferred activities during the quiet months. Weather permitting, the staff can arrange the following, private party excursions.

  • Hummer Safaris: Where and when specific excursions travel are weather dependent. Possibilities include Hell’s Revenge Trail, a two-hour, off-trail thrills ascending, unbelievably steep, slick sandstone to access vantage points over remote canyon glens and Sunset Hummer Tour, a three-hour, off-road venture culminating with a salute to the painted evening sky.
  • A Private Canyoneering Adventure and/or Moab Rock Climbing Lessons are each five-hour, adrenalin-induced gulps of fresh air discovering memory-making muscles and foot holds.
  • Private Arches National Park Morning Tours engage visitors for four hours as a guide and driver provide insights into the formation of this unique landscape and its unparalleled wonders. Arches National Park has more than 2,000 known arches, most of anywhere in the world.
  • Arches National Park Air Tour takes flightseers over Courthouse Towers, North and South Window Arches, Delicate Arch, Devil’s Garden, the Colorado River, Fisher Towers, and Castle Valley. Youth 2 and under fly free on a parent’s lap. (2 person minimum)

The cooler temperatures of winter signal an eagerness for adventure. For example, January’s average high is 43F, rising to 63F by March when campgrounds open and river pundits assess the winter snow pack runoff with an eye to a new rafting season.

With the exception of Los Angeles, which is just over 700 miles from Moab, the major cities of the Southwest are all under 500 miles from Moab. To extend an adventure here, visitors may want to combine the red rocks with road trips to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and Zion National Park.

Through the late winter season, Moab Adventure Center recommends tapping into http://udottraffic.utah.gov to see real-time road conditions across Utah.

Robinson Cano MLB illustration by Kaelen Felix for 360 Magazine

Robinson Cano Suspended for PED

By Hannah DiPilato

Major League Baseball player Robinson Cano has been suspended after testing positive for stanozolol, a performance-enhancing drug. MLB commissioner, Rob Manfred, confirmed on Wednesday in a statement that Cano will be banned for the entire 2021 season.

This is the 38-year-old’s second suspension due to testing positive for PED. In 2018, while Cano played for the Seattle Mariners, he tested positive for using diuretic and missed 80 games according to ESPN

At the time of his first offense, Cano said the diuretic “was given to me by a licensed doctor in the Dominican Republic to treat a medical ailment.” He said he was unaware the drug was banned in the MLB.

In the MLB, testing positive for a PED a second time will result in an automatic 162 game suspension. This rule is an agreement between Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association.

Neither Cano nor the players’ union has made a statement about his second positive test for a PED.

“We were extremely disappointed to be informed about Robinson’s suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program,” said Mets president Sandy Alderson in a statement. “The violation is very unfortunate for him, the organization, our fans, and the sport. The Mets fully support MLB’s efforts toward eliminating performance-enhancing substances from the game.”

Cano will have to forfeit his 2021 salary where he was set to make $24 million. According to Fox Business, Cano is still set to make $48 million between 2022 and 2023. The Mets are responsible for $40 million while the Mariners agreed to pay the remaining $8 million.

The news of Cano’s suspension is great news for player DJ LeMaiheu. According to the New York Post, LeMaiheu would be the perfect player for either the New York Mets or the New York Yankees to add to their rosters. After rejecting an $18.9 million qualifying offer from the Yankees, LeMaiheu is a free agent.

After the loss of Cano for the 2021 season, the Mets are now in need of a starting second baseman. This adds to the list of starting positions that the Mets are seeking out since they are already looking for a starting pitcher, catcher and center field. The Mets could also start Jeff McNeil at second base, a position he would be comfortable in.

Cano was traded to the Mets in 2018 sending player Jared Kelenic to the Mariners. Throughout his 16 seasons playing the sport, Cano is a .303 hitter with 334 home runs, 1,302 RBIs and two Gold Gloves according to ESPN

Cano was on his way to achieving 3,000 career hits and was at 2,624 before his suspension. This suspension will certainly create uncertainty for the future of his baseball career.

ARIA Winter Wonderland Lights Up Holiday Season

“ARIA’s Front Desk rings, are you listening; In the casino, snow is glistening; A beautiful sight, we’re happy tonight; As we debut our version of a Winter Wonderland.”

ARIA is lighting up the holiday season with its “Winter Wonderland” lobby display. Created by the ARIA Pastry team and on display through Tuesday, Jan. 5, this year’s centerpiece is a custom-designed Sugar Palace, made out of edible ingredients and stands 15-feet high. Led by Executive Pastry Chef Mathieu Lavallee, the skilled team spent more than four weeks crafting the Sugar Palace, showcasing seven types of sugar work techniques in the pressed sugar bricks, snowflakes coated in crystal sugar, blown-sugar swans and blown and pulled flowers, among other sweet pieces.

“We wanted to bring our candy house back this year, but with an exciting new twist so we created a winter wonderland palace entirely out of sugar,” said ARIA Executive Pastry Chef Mathieu Lavallee. “Designing the Sugar Palace was a fun and unique challenge as we utilized several sugar work techniques and it took weeks of dedication and hard work by our wonderful ARIA pastry team to bring it to life.”

The holiday creation required close to 4,000 pounds of sugar which created 1,000 pressed sugar bricks, 500 sugar tiles made of cooked sugar and the Sugar Palace’s beautiful front window, which weighs in at one ton. Additionally, 400 pounds of white royal icing was used to build the structure. Door decorations made from fondant, glistening white meringue drops on the roofline and sugar vines and icicles are a few of the other stunning hand-sculpted items found on the Sugar Palace.

The Sugar Palace is set in a sparkling white and silver winter wonderland, designed and created by the MGM Resorts Event Production team in collaboration with the ARIA Horticulture and Facilities teams. Hand-carved oversized ornaments, including carousel horses, ballerinas, pirate ships, snowflakes, swans and trains, hang from the ceiling. The handmade Palace is surrounded by a glittering winter forest of stacked custom-designed trees, white manzanita trees detailed with white twinkle lights and shimmering angel hair and a 17-foot holiday tree decorated with 500 crystals.

The Winter Wonderland not only creates an idyllic setting for a holiday-themed photo, but also features delicious holiday gift ideas made by the ARIA Patisserie team, including chocolate coffee cups, candied oranges dipped in chocolate, white chocolate & peppermint popcorn, sugar cookies and milk chocolate cranberries, among many other treats. The Winter Wonderland retail area will be open Monday to Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. and Friday to Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. (open through Tuesday, Jan. 5). Additionally, a physically distanced seating area in the Sugar Palace’s backyard provides guests a respite to enjoy their sweet treats with a warm holiday beverage – or cocktail for those 21 and over!

Tips for Reducing Holiday Stress and Staying Mindful While Traveling

The holiday season is typically the busiest time of the year for traveling. People enjoy going to see family members or exploring new locations as they have time off from their jobs and schoolwork. This year, traveling may come with a bit more stress and anxiety due to the pandemic that people are facing around the world. The good news is that there are some things you can do to help reduce holiday stress, as well as stay safer while traveling.

“There may be fewer people traveling this holiday season, but there will still be a lot who do, and they need to know how to make it more enjoyable,” explains Katie Sandler, personal development and career coach. “Mindful travel is the key to reducing stress, staying safer, and making the most of your time traveling. This year will be a great exercise in mindfulness, which is something to be excited about.”

As an expert at using mindfulness, Sandler helps people not only reduce their stress, but also reach new goals. The key to traveling safely during the pandemic, as she points out, is in using the technique throughout the experience. By remaining mindful, travelers will go about their experience in a way that is conscientious and intentional. Just as with many things in life, this is an issue that comes down to learning to be more focused and plan ahead.

Sandler has created a recipe for mindful safe travel in the era of COVID, which includes the following tips:

  • Forget being spontaneous. This is not the time to be spontaneous. In order to help reduce risks and stress. Figure everything out ahead of time. Know about everything before you go do it. This goes for restaurants, excursions, and even visiting others. Call ahead so you can plan out as much as possible.
  • Know the rules and regulations. The rules today differ by city and state, so it’s important to know what they are for where you are heading. Get the information you need so that you are prepared. Whether it means all meals will be takeout, you will have to wear a mask, or you need to limit the number in your party, avoiding surprises will help keep things stress-free.
  • Get tested before you go. Getting a COVID test before you travel is a good way to help reduce stress and the spread of the virus. This way you will know that you are not unknowingly spreading it around wherever you may go.
  • Create a checklist to use. A checklist is a great way to ease the hassle of ensuring you have everything covered. Make a list of what needs to be packed, calls that need to be made, things that must be done before heading out, etc. This will prove much easier than trying to simply remember everything.
  • Make reservations wherever possible. This is a great time to make reservations for everything possible. Whether it’s at a restaurant, a tour company, or something else, this is a great way to help them limit the number of guests allowed in any one place at the same time.
  • Be kind and patient. People you come across while you are traveling are doing things differently, too, and it may cause them to be stressed out and provide slower service. Take that time to remind yourself to be in the here and now, and focus on being kind and patient.

“The holidays are a special time, and most of us still want to travel,” added Sandler. “While we shouldn’t live in constant fear of the virus, we should strive to keep being keenly aware of the situation and our surroundings. When we do that, we will reduce the stress and anxiety, help to keep everyone healthier, and still be able to enjoy life, even more than when we travel without being so focused.”

Through her personal development and career coaching services, Sandler has helped people in many different ways. From helping them to identify things holding themselves back to being able to achieve personal goals, she brings a crucial, helpful outsider’s perspective. In addition to personal achievements, she helps many people with their career goals, as well as working with companies to provide their team with impact training. Through her efforts, companies have been able to reduce absenteeism rates, motivate their team, reduce stress levels, engage their employees, and create a better workplace.

Sandler offers impact retreats, corporate impact events, and one-on-one coaching services. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in mental health counseling, has a strong foundation in mindfulness-based stress reduction, and has worked in hospitals and private practices. She has also spent time as a research assistant at Johns Hopkins. Upcoming retreats include Reignite in Tulum, Mindfulness in Mykonos, Rewire and Renew in The French Alps, and Mindfulness & Mindset in The Hamptons. St. Bernards High School illustration by Kaelen Felix for 360 Magazine

Wonderfilm Announces Its Latest Feature, All In, Has Begun Filming in Boston

Against all odds, the students, faculty, staff and parents of one of the smallest private educational facilitiesin America band together to save their school. How they did it was nothing short of a miracle.

Emmy Award winning producers, Jeff Bowler and Bret Saxon’s Wonderfilm Media just completed the forth of eight weeks of principal photography on the highly anticipated documentary, All In: Miracle at St. Bernard’s. The feature-length documentary is based on the incredible true story of how St. Bernard’s, a small private Catholic high school in Fitchburg,

Massachusetts, found itself 100 years after its founding, facing a dramatic shut-down. The film follows the community as they pour their hearts and souls into saving their school from being permanently shuttered. A miracle ensues.

A Real-Life David and Goliath Story

With enrollment dwindling, by 2018 St. Bernard’s was the smallest school in the commonwealth of Massachusetts, with a total of 99 students. The Catholic Diocese of Worcester made the difficult decision to close the school. Led by the school’s principal, Linda Anderson, students, parents, faculty, alumni and the townspeople of Fitchburg hatched an idea to raise enough money to take the school independent and keep it open. They worked tirelessly to raise the daunting amounts needed. Unfortunately, like the school, the town was struggling, and fundraising proved extremely difficult.   With quickly approaching deadlines, extreme pressure from the budget shortfalls, the Diocesan Superintendent of Schools informed all parties of the dire straits they were facing, and that short of a miracle, the school would cease to exist. Then the football team started winning.

It All Came Down to Football

Almost every eligible student at the school joined the football team. With an enrollment so small, that meant the St. Bernard’s football team had 26 boys. Miraculously, despite going up against schools often ten times as big as St. Bernard’s, the team, led by Coach Tom Bingham, was winning, and winning, and winning. And with each win, the media started reporting on this David beating Goliaths. “St. Bernard’s was going up against teams from the top schools in New England, with thousands of students, multi-million-dollar endowments, and players who were much larger physically – and winning,” said All In producer Jeff Bowler. The St. Bernard’s team went on to win the state Super Bowl played in Gillette Stadium. The 26 boys on the team, fighting for every inch of the field that their hero, New England Patriot Quarterback Tom Brady, called home on Sundays, won the State Championship, generating enough national publicity to raise the money needed to save the school, including a huge donation from a still anonymous donor.

Shortly thereafter, with funds in hand, the school officially became independent, with the full support of the Diocese. In the first year following the miraculous football season, admissions are soaring, and an entire town’s spirits have been raised in celebration of saving their historic high school.

“As a St. Bernard’s alum and filmmaker, I was tapped by the school to help tell this truly remarkable story to the world,” said Bowler. “This feel-good, underdog tale is about so much more than football. The story is about a community that rallied together to create their own miracle. Faced with the closing of their beloved high school, students and faculty members stepped up to the plate to save their school, with unwavering perseverance.”

All In: Miracle at St. Bernard’s is being produced by Wonderfilm’s Jeff Bowler and Bret Saxon. The Emmy Award-winning duo have enjoyed success in feature documentaries, including the 2017 documentary, UNCHAINED: THE UNTOLD STORY OF FREESTYLE MOTOCROSS, narrated by Oscar nominee Josh Brolin, which won the Emmy for Best Documentary, in the sports category, as well as the 2009 feature-doc, DIRTY OIL aka DOWNSTREAM, directed by Leslie Iwerks, which was short-listed for an Oscar.

All In is being directed by Gregg Backer (Producer/Director HBO Sports, Real Sports). Other producers include Foglight Entertainment’s Gregg Backer and Evan Kanew with Nathan Bilotta serving as Executive Producer.  All In: Miracle at St. Bernard’s is currently shooting in Fitchburg, Boston and Los Angeles.

Wonderfilm Media recently wrapped supernatural horror LULLABY directed by John Leonetti (Anabelle), with Alcon, in Toronto. Cast and crew adhered to all COVID-19 production guidelines and there were no cases of the virus on set. The film is set for a major release next October. Wonderfilm latest release, Dead Reckoning with K.J. Apa and India Eisley, just premiered November 13.

Upcoming Wonderfilm Media projects include the biopic on Tampa Bay Rays breakout star, Randy Arozarena. The outfielder escaped Cuba on a makeshift boat in 2015, started a new life in Mexico before making his way to the U.S and has become the most talked-about MLB player in baseball. Wonderfilm is also developing the highly coveted Steve McQueen biopic as a limited series based on Marshall Terrill’s book, “A Tribute To The King of Cool”.

Watch HERE. Produced by long-time collaborator Taylor Kimball, Sellout also includes previously released tracks “Good Die Young,” “Kuntry & Wistern,” and “Sundy or Mundy.” See full tracklisting below.

Last week, Wetzel announced that he and Read Southall will co-headline a mini acoustic tour next month along with Austin Meade who is slated to open each night. The run of shows kick off December 8 at Oklahoma City’s The Criterion where the two headliners will share a stage and trade off playing songs from their respective discographies to a limited capacity live audience. The Texas-born singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer continues to unapologetically trail blaze between grunge, country, Americana, and damn near everything else under the sun on Sellout. From 2015 up until signing with Columbia Records this summer, Wetzel quietly sold over 200,000 units independently and went from playing bars with chicken wire in front of the stage to hosting and headlining his own music festival. With over 485 million streams and video views to date, Wetzel continues to build his diehard audience.

His 2017 debut Noise Complaint became a phenomenon powered by “February 28, 2016” [25.5 million Spotify streams], “Something To Talk About” [20.6 million Spotify streams], “Love” [16.1 million Spotify streams], “Fuss & Fight” [14.4 million Spotify streams], and more. The momentum continued with 2019’s Harold Saul High and its singles “Ragweed” [13.8 million Spotify streams] and “Forever” [10.8 million Spotify streams] as more sold-out shows ensued. Following a tireless grind, Wetzel surprise-released the 2020 anthem “Kuntry & Wistern,” which exploded right out of the gate trending on Apple Music. Wetzel followed with “Sundy or Mundy” in July, marking his first release with Columbia Records, which garnered praise from Rolling Stone who called the song “a mesmerizing tune.”
