The Garden’s gradual reopening process incorporates best practices and guidance from health authorities and government agencies. New measures include requiring staff and visitors over the age of two to wear face coverings; increasing sanitization of public and staff areas; daily health screenings for on-site staff; supporting hygiene and social distancing practices; requiring timed-entry tickets purchased in advance; operating at a reduced capacity; and more.

The new, limited timed-entry ticketing system staggers visitors’ arrivals, promotes social distancing, and mitigates the risk of crowding in high-traffic areas. Advance purchase of timed tickets is required and will be confirmed by e-mail with the option to print or download a mobile ticket. Visitors who do not purchase advance tickets will not be guaranteed admission at this time. Garden Patrons and Members must also reserve timed tickets in advance. It is also easy to reach by Metro-North Railroad or subway. For more information, please visit nybg.org.

Male Pattern Baldness article illustrated by Kaelen Felix for 360 MAGAZINE

Everything You Need To Know About Male Pattern Baldness

The average person loses anywhere from 50 to 100 hairs a day—it’s part of the natural hair cycle and won’t make a difference on the scalp.

It only becomes a problem when there isn’t new hair to replace the ones that you’ve lost. A medical condition, it can be caused by a number of things from medications to hormonal changes.

Genetics can play a role as well. If anything, that’s what causes androgenic alopecia aka male pattern baldness.

Think you might have it? Want to know what some of the possible treatments are? If so, be sure to read the rest of the post!

What Is Male Pattern Baldness?

Male pattern baldness is a condition that causes loss of hair in men. In the United States, it affects nearly 50 million individuals. In fact, it’s said that more than half of all men will experience it to some extent by the age of 50.

And while it doesn’t pose any health threats, it can be psychologically distressing.

What Causes Male Pattern Baldness?

Male pattern baldness has to do with the male sex hormones aka androgens. More specifically, they have an effect on the hair growth cycle. Instead of producing new strands to replace the ones that have fallen out, the hair follicle shrinks.

Over time, this leads to baldness.

While the condition is often inherited, it can also be caused by other things such as medications and certain cancers. In cases like that, it’s often accompanied by a rash or peeling of the scalp.

Who’s At Risk?

When do men start balding? It depends, but male pattern baldness typically occurs when an individual is in his 30s or 40s (the likelihood increases with age). With that said, it can also happen during the teen years after puberty.

Since it’s genetic, those with a family history of the condition are also at a higher risk of developing the condition. This is especially true if it runs on the material side of the family.

Common Symptoms

Male pattern baldness shows up in a telltale shape. That is, it often starts as a receding hairline with thinning strands around the hair.

Over time, it’ll continue to move backward, forming an “M” shape. Eventually, as the hair becomes shorter and finer, it’ll create a horseshoe pattern with hair on the sides of the head.

Depending on the severity, the hairline may continue to recede until all of the strands are gone.

Treating Male Pattern Baldness

Unfortunately, there’s no cure for male pattern baldness. Having said that, there are treatments available for those who’d like to improve their appearance.

Medications

There are a couple of medications that can help with the condition, one of which includes a topical lotion or foam. Available over-the-counter, it works best on the crown of the head.

Keep in mind, however, that it can take several months for you to see results. Also, the medication must be used indefinitely to preserve the effects.

And while it’s typically well-tolerated, it can cause side effects such as itching, irritation, or swelling of the skin.

In addition to that, there’s a prescription medication that you can take orally. Put it simply, it prevents DHT, a male hormone, from shrinking the hair follicles on the scalp. In doing so, it can slow the progression of baldness.

As with the lotion, however, the effects will be reversed if the pill is stopped.

Wigs

Wigs can be used to cover receding hairlines, thinning hair, or complete baldness. The best part is that they come in a variety of colors and styles so that you can choose the one that’s right for you.

You can also work with a professional wig stylist for a more natural look.

Hair Weaves

Weaves are basically wigs that are sewn into your hair. There’s just one thing—you must have enough hair for them to work with.

Unlike wigs, which can easily come off, weaves will always stay on, even if you’re running or swimming. However, they must be sewn again whenever new hair growth occurs.

Hair Transplants

A hair transplant is the most invasive option and because of this, it’s often considered to be the last resort. How does it work?

A doctor will remove hair from areas of the scalp that still have active growth and transplant them to balding areas. Generally speaking, multiple treatments will be necessary.

Common side effects include numbness on the treated areas of the scalp, swelling, and scarring. The new hair may also appear less dense over time depending on the density of follicles in the transplanted area.

Is Male Pattern Baldness Preventable?

Currently, there’s no known way to prevent the condition. With that said, some researchers believe that it may help to reduce stress. Ultimately, this has to do with the fact that stress can contribute to hair loss by increasing sex hormones.

Given that, you may want to participate in relaxing activities such as walking or listening to soothing music.

Understanding Male Pattern Baldness

Now you know all about male pattern baldness. As you can see, it can be caused by various things from medications to genetics. Fortunately, there are ways to treat the condition. When in doubt, consult with your primary care doctor!

Kamala Harris and Joe Biden illustration for 360 MAGAZINE by Kaelen Felix

Biden’s victory means workers once again have a seat at the table

Joe Biden’s election victory is one for working families throughout this country.

It brings with it a renewed sense of optimism that they will once again have their voices heard in the revered Oval Office. As we celebrate this victory, we know there is much work to be done, and we, the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), look forward to working with the Biden administration to reestablish and further the interests of all working Americans.

Earlier this year, a survey of OPEIU members—the first-ever of its kind in our union’s history—showed a strong majority of us support the election of Biden as the forty-sixth president of the United States. OPEIU members throughout the country worked tirelessly in the months leading up to the election to help get out the vote for Biden and his vice-presidential running mate, Kamala Harris.

The democratic ticket is one of hope. Biden and Harris recognize the power of unions and worker organization. They promise that, as a part of their plan as leaders of the U.S., that they will “grow a stronger, more inclusive middle class – the backbone of the American economy – by strengthening public and private sector unions and helping all workers bargain successfully for what they deserve.”

His specific plan for doing is outlined on his website. Among his talking points, he swears to check the abuse of corporate power, encourage and incentivize unionization and collective bargaining, and ensure that workers are “treated with dignity and receive the pay, benefits, and workplace protections they deserve.”

“This is a historic day for working people. Not only has our members’ work to oust an anti-worker president come to fruition, but working people now have someone in the White House who will strive to protect America’s working families, not just the wealthy and powerful, and help bring our nation back together to heal after four years of divisiveness,” said OPEIU President Richard Lanigan.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Donald Trump has not protected workers. After the benefits of the CARES Act expired in July, which allotted citizens who filed for unemployment an extra $600 per month, Trump opposed its extension, leaving citizens without fiscal support from the government.

“Though we anticipate a wave of last-ditch legal challenges from the Trump campaign, our union will move forward knowing working people’s needs and struggles will be considered as President-elect Biden begins to assemble his cabinet,” he continued.

Trump has so far brought almost a dozen cases to smaller courts in Nevada, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgie, calling into question the validity of ballots and calling for the count to stop. Trump has made clear that he wants to take the election to the Supreme Court where it will determine a winner. But, according to the Associated Press, the margins with which Biden won the race make it difficult for Trump to build a case for himself.

“We congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their victory,” he concluded. “Working people across the country, especially OPEIU members, are looking forward to fighting side-by-side as we confront the biggest issues facing our country today: the COVID crisis, the attack on workers’ rights, economic inequality, racial justice and climate change.”

Biden and Harris won the popular vote and the Electoral College, securing, as of now, more than 74 million popular votes and 279 electoral votes, and counting. The AP called the election for Biden today.

OPEIU stands ready to work with the Biden administration to expand workers’ rights, make billionaires pay their fair share, combat inequality in all its forms, and undertake the difficult but necessary work required to protect our planet for future generations.

Professional organizations and guilds affiliated with OPEIU are a diverse group that includes podiatrists, registered nurses, teachers, Minor League Baseball umpires, and helicopter pilots.

DREAMERS release new song – True Crime ft. DeathbyRomy

Cosmic-rock band DREAMERS have released “True Crime,” featuring dark-pop provocateur DeathbyRomy, a hook-ridden story of love and betrayal set in the dark magic of New Orleans. The track was co-written and produced by Joywave’s Dan Armbruster and Sir Sly’s Jason Suwito.

“This song is not about the election,” says lead singer Nick Wold.

Listen HERE

“We considered taking this week off of music due to this historic election. But we decided we have to keep the show going,” says Dreamers lead singer/guitarist Nick Wold. “This song is not about politics, it’s about life, and we’ll always continue to make our noise no matter what’s happening in this crazy world. We’ve done constant messaging with headcount.org, Rock The Vote, and others to help encourage everyone to vote, and we hope we’ve made some small impact getting our friends out there to vote and not take this precious democracy for granted.

“This is a love song that takes place in New Orleans, a city I’ve fallen in love with after years of doing shows there. That place is like a jungle and so seductive, where the thick liquid heat and mixture of life brings out your animal nature. It has a decadent mix of Louisiana Voodoo, French, Spanish and West African flavors and people play music outside everywhere you go. As we bounced through the streets one night we met a male witch who taught us how to do an incantation asking the Santeria spirit Elegua for anything we wanted – we partook in the ritual and this song is inspired by that delirious encounter. I was in a relationship at the time and experiencing some conflict, and while I can’t share my exact wish, the ritual was an attempt to resolve it. That night inspired the song, which is about the terrible things the crimes that we can do to each other in the name of love.”

True Crime ft. DeathByRomy is the follow-up to Heat Seeker ft. grandson and the band’s top ten alternative hit Die Happy.

ABOUT DREAMERS

Los Angeles-via-Brooklyn band DREAMERS features a unique brand of music that combines grunge, modern electronic pop, and 70s punk. The trio have spent the past few years touring non-stop, from small clubs to massive arenas to festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bumbershoot, Firefly, Reading and Leeds. Along the way, Nick Wold, Nelson and Jacob Wick have shared stages with the likes of X Ambassadors, The 1975, Bleachers, Stone Temple Pilots, Catfish and The Bottlemen, and Weezer, while garnering coverage from Fader, Entertainment Weekly and Paste, among many others.

In 2016, the band released their debut full-length album This Album Does Not Exist, which spawned a top 10 Alternative radio hit, the electro-sprinkled pop gem “Sweet Disaster.” Three other songs also charted nationally: the ’90s throwback “Drugs,” the crooning “Wolves (You Got Me),” and the soulful, brisk power-pop of their single “Painkiller.” In 2018 the band released a pair of EPs, LAUNCH and FLY, and in 2019 released LAUNCH FLY LAND, their second full-length album that spawned the alternative radio hit “Die Happy.” In 2020, the band released the hook-heavy Heat Seeker ft. grandson along with a visually-captivating live-action music video directed by lead singer Wold (Watch HERE), an animated sequel featuring sci-fi, mysticism, religion and rock, inspired by the animation of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” and 1981’s cult classic Heavy Metal (Watch HERE), and a Covid quarantine rendition featuring special guests grandson, Robert Delong, Joywave’s Daniel Armbruster, UPSAHL and Bikini Trill’s Tony Stern for a special isolation version of the single (Watch HERE)

About DeathbyRomy

Singer, songwriter, and dark-pop provocateur DeathbyRomy pays attention to every last detail. She pours both pain and euphoria into her catchy but heavy music, pitting electronic melodies and propulsive beats against hypnotic vocals and deeply personal lyrics. Now 20 years old, the Los Angeles-born Romy Flores wrote her first song at age 5 and began releasing her music at 15, mining inspiration from the iconoclastic artists she was raised on (The Beatles, Björk, Kanye West, to name a few). With her 2018 debut album “Monsters,” she soon drew an avid following and found countless fans turning up to her shows adorned in her signature eye makeup. Her Capitol Records debut, 2019’s “Love u to Death” EP, was short but sickly sweet, emphasizing her unique interweaving of rap boldness, electronic innovation, and raw rock n roll passion. As Romy’s sound has taken shape, so has her DeathbyRomy persona: the Harajuku punk fashion, the corpsepaint-like makeup, and her hard-earned, utterly badass confidence. Stay tuned for more new music coming soon.

Lil Boom releases new single – an evil witches love spell

Florida-born rapper Lil Boom brings the heat on his new single “an evil witches love spell,” out now via 10K Projects/Homemade Projects. “an evil witches love spell” comes on the heels of Lil Boom’s summer releases “Kill Sephiroth” and “Caught Simpin’,” the latter with over 1.4 million streams on Spotify to date.

In “an evil witches love spell,” Lil Boom tells the story of a disastrous relationship, comparing his ex to an evil witch. Lil Boom continues to forge his own path as a hip hop artist, characterizing his flow with wild allusions and puns.

LISTEN TO “AN EVIL WITCHES LOVE SPELL” HERE

With early tracks like “RIP Harambe” and “F*ck Steph Curry,” Lil Boom didn’t anticipate creating a career out of his fun freestyles until fellow South Florida rapper Lil Pump encouraged him to keep going. According to the young rapper, “ever since Lil Pump said that, I’ve just thought that I gotta keep being me.”

After his initial virality with “MILF Next Door” four years ago, Lil Boom made the risky decision to quit his job washing dishes at a local crab shack to chase after the excitement of his unconventional career, creating what he calls Meme Rap: “I honestly like to call it meme rap. I don’t know who wants to accept that, but there’s nothing wrong with making memes and putting your music into memes. I’m having fun.”

Lil Boom says he owes a lot to meme culture for the success of his work, “I ran a meme page before I did rap. A lot of people don’t know that’s how I got my music to blow up.” Following the success of other meme-makers-turned-musicians in the past few years, it is clear that Lil Boom’s strange and unlikely path to success paved the way for other artists after him, including Lil Nas X’s explosive debut “Old Town Road.” In an online music marketplace, Lil Boom offers up his carefree works as the antidote to serious, darker music. He says, “Who doesn’t like memes? I’m making music for the people who don’t get heard and about things nobody really talks about in songs.”

Carmen DeLeon releases new single X video – Juegas

Carmen DeLeon is joined by acclaimed Colombian artist FEID on her new single, “Juegas,” a playful, romantic ode to the start of a new relationship.

View “Juegas” Official Video HERE

Paired with a pop-infused beat, the song’s lyrics evoke the “butterflies in the stomach” deeling that are a hallmark of infatuation. Listen to “Juegas,” which was released today by Capitol Music Group and Universal Music Latin Entertainment, HERE.

Earlier this month, FEID received TWO 2020 LATIN GRAMMY nominations for BEST REGGAETON PERFORMANCE and BEST URBAN MUSIC ALBUM, both recognizing the success of his collaboration with Justin Quiles on PORFA and his breakthrough album, FERXXO (VOL. 1: M.O.R.).

“Juegas” is the follow-up to “Volver,” the summer 2020 single that launched Carmen DeLeon’s career. She and FEID wrote the new song with Maxium, Mista Bombo, Leon Yamil and Jonathan Tobas. It was produced by Maxium, Mista Bombo and Leon Yamil.

“Juegas” is as authentic as it comes, especially when DeLeon describes what she draws inspiration from and how she puts pen to paper.

Carmen DeLeon says, “I wrote “Juegas” one night in Miami around one a.m. with one of my best friends. I wanted to write a love song that focused on the need to give and receive in a relationship. To me, that’s the best part of living life with a partner. I hope that people feel inspired when they hear this song and understand the importance of giving and receiving.”

Directed and produced by Gian Rivera (aka “Death of Gian”), who helmed Feid‘a video for “PORFA (Remix),” the official video for “Juegas” was shot in Miami and is infused with the kind of energy and enthusiasm that is characteristic of DeLeon’s style and artistic sensibility. Much like the theme of reciprocity that DeLeon highlights, the song’s combination of vibrant beat, melody and lyrics remind listeners that music is the ultimate antidote. Watch the video HERE.

Volver,” Carmen DeLeon’s debut single, has already amassed more than 800,000 combined global streams. It was produced by Tainy, the Puerto Rican mastermind who’s been responsible for some of the biggest hits in reggaeton and trap. In a few short months, DeLeon has grown a considerable following on her social channels, with 30,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and more than two million views on her YouTube channel. Born in Venezuela, she is now based in Miami.

Euphoria said, “Carmen DeLeon commands the world as her stage with fiery gusto and an undeniable sense of positivity. Further proving her right as music’s next breath of fresh air, the spry 19-year-old artist masters the microphone with “Volver,” a fiery ode to budding passion and power.”

Wonderland noted, “Sharing her struggles with anxiety, the highs and lows of these uncertain times and how it’s okay not to be okay, DeLeon brings her Latin roots to the fore on the laid-back tune, reminding us all exactly why she’s a force to be reckoned with.”

Praising the sing-along banger, Idolator declared, “Carmen DeLeon needs to be on your pop radar.”
