Rather than run away from life’s trials, tribulations, and tough times, Big $tuntconfronts them head-on in his music, and even uses them as fodder for inspiration. That tenacity can be credited for his rapid rise from the small rural town of York, SC to over 10 million streams, 250K-plus Tik Tok creates, and a deal with Block Entertainment/Columbia Records (all before his senior year of high school). He grew up with five siblings on his mother’s side and another five siblings on his father’s side as the middle child in both. In seventh grade, he teamed up with soon-to-be regular collaborator BiG J5 and cut his teeth on the mic. By high school, they “finally got into a real studio, because there isn’t one in York’. He featured on BiG J5’s “BrandNew Remix” and dropped “Thuggin” and “on gang.” In between, he excelled on the football field, playing cornerback and wide receiver for his school team. He transferred the hustle from the field back to the studio. It shows on his breakthrough single “Capitalize Off Pain.” On the track, a skittering beat and trap bounce echo beneath his singular and surgical high-register delivery. His voice slices right through the production as the hypnotic chant captivates. After racking up 1.9 million Soundcloud plays, it exploded on Tik Tok with countless fan videos.  As he balances hip-hop, football, and school, his grind never lets up with more music on the horizon.

THE CHICAGO SCOTS KICK OFF 175TH ANNIVERSARY WITH BLACK TIE EVENT

The Chicago Scots, the first and oldest non-profit organization in Illinois, is thrilled to officially kick off their historic 175th anniversary year by hosting the 175th Annual Saint Andrew’s Day Gala, “The Feast of the Haggis”, on Monday, November 30 beginning at 6:30 p.m. This event, held annually, even in times of war, depression, and pandemics, will be hosted virtually for the first time since its inception to keep the safety of all patrons and participants of the utmost importance. During this tremendous celebration of tradition, all participants will have the opportunity to enjoy an exclusive Feast of the Haggis in A Box, specially curated by Award Winning Chef Gary Maclean, who will take purchasers through how to recreate various Scottish delicacies in the safety of their homes, as well as live entertainment including bagpipers and Highland Dancers, special awards presentations, and much more.

This annual festivity first began in 1845, when Chicago’s population was just 12,000. A group of immigrant Scots gathered at the city’s finest hotel, the Lake House, to celebrate Saint Andrew’s Day. There, they established Illinois’ first and still oldest charity, the Illinois Saint Andrew Society and adopted a simple mission: “Relieve the Distressed.” Since then, despite crises like the Civil War, Great Chicago Fire, the Great Depression, two World Wars, and the 1918 Pandemic, the Society (known today as the Chicago Scots) has never failed to host their “Feast of the Haggis.” On Saint Andrew’s Day, November 30, 2020, the Society will officially become the first 501c3 not-for-profit in Illinois to celebrate this milestone and kick off its 175th anniversary year.

All proceeds of the event will benefit Chicago Scots and its principal charity, Caledonia Senior Living and Memory Care.  Around the world there are many societies that celebrate Scottish culture, but there is only one that has developed an elder-care community as a defined charitable purpose. For more than 110 years, generations of families have turned to and trusted the Chicago Scots to provide loving care at their five-acre campus nestled in the forest preserve, just west of downtown Chicago.

During this uniquely Scottish evening, the Chicago Scots will recognize achievement of excellence and contributions to Society by presenting their Distinguished Citizen Award, to Peter Georgeson, Founder of Scot Forge. The Chicago Scots have also created a new prestigious award to commemorate the 175thanniversary, the Makar’s Medal, which will be presented every five years to the seated Scots Makar – the poet laureate of Scotland.

This year’s 2020 Distinguished Citizen will be presented to Peter I. Georgeson, Founder and owner of Scot Forge, who has impacted Caledonia Senior Living as its most generous donor spanning more than four decades, and which continues to this day. Peter has been an influential figure at Chicago Scots throughout the 1980s-1900s. Peter is the ‘Man of Steel’ who led the enormous expansion of his family’s forging business into what is now a successful employee-owned company Scot Forge, a global industry leader. Peter and his wife were named Kinsman and Kinswoman of the year in 1986 in recognition of their volunteer efforts and generous support. Throughout the years, Peter’s generosity continued, gifting to build the 22-bed Georgeson Wing which expanded elder care services at Caledonia’s historic building the Scottish Home, as well as leading the gift for the Reimagine Tradition Campaign to help refurbish the interior of the Scottish Home, which to this day has raised over $4 million to refresh the 110-year old Home.

This inaugural Makar’s Medal Award will be presented to Jackie Kay, a critically acclaimed poet, playwright and novelist. Considered a poet of the people and the literary figure reframing Scottishness today, Jackie was born in Edinburgh in 1961 to a Scottish mother and a Nigerian father, adopted by a white Scottish couple who also adopted her brother two years prior. Her Memoir, Red Dust Road, was published in 2010 and was awarded the prestigious Scottish Book of the Year, the London Book Award, and was also shortlisted for the Jr. Ackerley prize. It was also selected among 20 books for the World Book Night in 2013. Her first collection of poetry The Adoption Papers won the Forward prize, a Saltire prize and a Scottish Arts Council prize. Kay was appointed the third Makar in March 2016, was awarded a CBE medal, or Commander of the Order of the British Empire, in 2019, and is now a Chancellor of the University of Salford and Professor of Creative Writing at Newcastle University.

To prepare for this year’s Feast of the Haggis, patrons will have the opportunity to purchase a Feast of the Haggis in A Box for $175 that serves two, specially curated by Award Winning Chef Gary Maclean, who will take viewers through how to recreate a couple of Scottish dishes and desserts in the safety of their homes. The Feast in a Box will include an event program, recipe cards, and a curated list of contents to help prepare your own Feast, including: two Chicago Scots etched whiskey glasses, two Chicago Scots cloth napkins, Caledonian Kitchen Highland Beef Haggis, Cold Smoked Scottish Salmon, Tracklements Wiltshire Beer Mustard, Mull of Kintyre Mature Scottish Cheddar, Highland Oat Crackers, Aegean Fig Chutney, and Scottish Highlands Heather Honey. Also included within the box is a photobook with memorable Feast of the Haggis pictures spanning the 175 years of the event’s history for all patrons to reminisce.

Disney and Chef Choi collaborated with his friends at Jon & Vinny’s in Los Angeles; Home Slice Pizza in Austin; Roberta’s Pizza in Brooklyn; Pizzeria Beddia in Philadelphia; and Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix to create six specialty pizzas inspired by the Sensational Six friends that will be available for one day only, on Saturday, Nov. 21. The next decade’s most disruptive technology

Virtual reality has already had a major impact in a range of different industries. IDTechEx predicts in its recent market research reportthat this technology will grow to $8Bn by 2030. One way that virtual reality has been used is in planning. VR technologies have recently been shown by an article in the Financial Times to be used by the City of London Corporation to help with planning decisions for future office areas. This is a first for an area of this size, and aims to help planners realize what “plans offer in terms of space, enhancement of the public realm and to the City,” according to Alastair Moss, Chair of the Planning and Transportation Committee at the City of London Corporation. The ability to plan cities with VR technology will allow for more highly advanced urban planning solutions.

What is the impact of COVID?

Recently the versatility of mixed and augmented reality products has come to the forefront of the news, with an Imperial led project at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Rolls-Royce Whispers is the marque’s digital world of curated luxury, an application created to meet the demands and tastes of an eclectic network of global clients. Over the course of 2020, Whispers has expanded and evolved, providing an engaging and inspiring experience for its unique online global community. Until today, Whispers has been the reserve of owners of Goodwood created Rolls-Royce motor cars. By popular demand, Whispers will now be available for partners of owners, providing a more holistic access as we approach the holiday season.

Already the epitome of customer-centricity, the Application has been evolved to consider the current restrictions faced by so many clients around the world, who, due to Covid-19 movement restrictions, are unable to travel to the Home of Rolls-Royce, in Goodwood, West Sussex. Many clients expressed a wish to maintain even closer contact with the marque, and in answer to these demands, Verena Masters, Head of Whispers, embraced the unique opportunity presented by the Application. Written dialogue is already available via the popular community messaging function. This function has now been developed to facilitate face-to-face video interactions, for more natural communication between clients and the marque. Now, patrons can experience Rolls-Royce’s Global Centre of Luxury Manufacturing Excellence from wherever they are in the world, in the comfort of their own home.

A comprehensive suite of online live video options enables real-time communication with the marque’s executives, product experts and craftspeople. Clients may even view their motor car, live on the production line, at the marque’s manufactory –  witnessing the ‘marriage’ – a seminal moment as the powertrain meets the chassis,  or the fitting of the Spirit of Ecstasy.

New Ghost has naturally ignited considerable demand for this service. One-on-one live consultations with Rolls-Royce specialists and designers have provided detailed and personal product insights, which enable remote commissioning to take place. Materials and colours are defined, Bespoke accoutrements are envisioned, and unique motor cars are brought to life in consummate Rolls-Royce style – with effortless ease.

The curation of cultural and exclusive opportunities continues on Whispers courtesy of the marque’s Luxury Intelligence Unit. Most recently, members have enjoyed editorial inspiration on topics ranging from the forefront of moving-image art, guidance on how to cultivate a woodland, and even, the philanthropic endeavours of other Whispers members.

Asiahn releases new single – Get Away

Jersey-born, Carolina-raised, R&B singer/songwriter Asiahn returns today with her new single “Get Away,” and a video to accompany it. Fluttering harps and serpentine bass-lines set the tone for the song’s welcome escapism, as she dreams of better days in the arms of a lover. Listen HERE. “Get Away” offers simple pleasures in both Asiahn’s beckoning lyrics and the meditative production. 

“The Inspiration for the song came from the frustration with what’s going on in the world today and wanting to get away to just exist. In my mind I wanted to create a song that felt like the experience of being free.” Asiahn states. When speaking on conceptualizing the visual, Asiahn continues “We’re over sexualized, overused, and most of the time unrealistic in what we look like. I wanted to show a goddess-like depiction of two females in love. Not overly sexual, but sensual, powerful & feminine. The concept circles around the belief that beautiful things can grow in the most unexpected places.”
