NCVC Launch Music City Bandwidth × Jack Daniel’s

The Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp, in partnership with Nashville’s Music Venue Alliance, has launched Music City Bandwidth presented by Jack Daniel’s to help independent music venues and Nashville-based musicians survive the pandemic’s economic damage and also provide inspiration for visitors to travel to Music City when it is safe for tourism to return. Music City Bandwidth will host 30 virtual concerts in September and October starting Sept. 14. Fifteen independent Nashville music venues will provide gigs for approximately 120 Nashville-based musicians of diverse genres. The concerts will be streamed around the world at musiccitybandwidth.com. At this time, there will be no live audiences due to physical distancing and crowd size limitations mandated by the city. “We have crafted a unique, Nashville-branded virtual experience to go to a worldwide audience that promotes the Music City brand, the diversity of Nashville musicians and all the iconic independent music venues that are the soul of Music City,” said Butch Spyridon, president and CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. “If these music clubs don’t make it, our Music City brand and music ecosystem will be in great peril.”

Confirmed Artists Include:

Andrew Combs; Brett James; Creature Comfort; Devon Gilfillian; Giovanni Rodriguez & 12 Manos; Jason Eskridge; Kalie Shorr; Marshall Chapman with Tommy Womack & Will Kimbrough; Patrick Sweany; The Last Bandoleros; The Pink Spiders; The Shindellas; The Wild Feathers; Trigger Hippy; Victoria Shaw; and Wooten Brothers.

Show Schedule

Continue to check musiccitybandwidth.com for show schedule.

Shows will air at 7 p.m. CDT on certain dates in September and October. Each venue will host two shows and must book Nashville-based acts representing diverse genres. Participating venues include the following:

  • 3rd and Lindsley
  • DRKMTTR
  • Exit/In
  • Mercy Lounge
  • The 5 Spot
  • The Basement
  • The Basement East
  • The Bluebird Cafe
  • The East Room
  • The End
  • The High Watt
  • The Listening Room
  • Rudy’s Jazz Room
  • Springwater
  • Station Inn

The creative marketing initiative is being paid for by Tennessee CARES Act funds earmarked for destination marketing organizations such as the NCVC to support tourism recovery. These 15 independent music venues have averaged a 90 percent revenue loss since mid-March. The Music Venue Alliance estimates 15 percent of them will permanently close in one month; 38 percent in six weeks; and 13 weeks from now all but one will permanently close without financial assistance. That could result in the loss of 5,600 annual concerts; $5 million paid to 46,000 musicians annually; 389 lost jobs; and more than $2 million in lost city and state taxes annually. The city recently approved $2 million in CARES Act funding for small music venues.

Chris Cobb, president of Music Venue Alliance Nashville, said, “Nashville’s independent music venues have been devastated by the pandemic. We have been closed since March, and even though we have operated frugally and responsibly, have been forced to lay off 90 percent of our employees. We fear many of us will close permanently. We know there are many people rooting for us to survive, and this marketing initiative is one of the first pieces of assistance to finally come through. Thank you to the State and the NCVC for this much-needed shot in the arm. We can’t wait to start booking shows again, supporting our ecosystem, and sharing music with the world from some of Nashville’s most beloved stages!”

“During the global pandemic, the music stopped – for fans, venues and musicians themselves. But Jack is here to help keep the music playing,” said Ed Carias, Jack Daniel’s U.S. brand director. “Music has always been at the heart of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, and we are excited to support talented artists at these iconic venues in Nashville while celebrating the friendship and fun that makes live music so special.”

Donations to a relief fund for local venues and musicians can be made at musiccitybandwidth.com, where Music City Bandwidth t-shirts will also be available for purchase with proceeds benefiting these venues.

@VisitMusicCity launches Music City Bandwidth presented by @JackDaniels_US, a NEW virtual concert series to benefit Nashville music venues. Get the details & get ready to watch at musiccitybandwidth.com. #KeeptheMusicPlaying #SupportNashvilleStages #KeepIndieLive615

Elixir

By Payton Saso

Twin sister music group, Elixir, may be new to the music scene but should definitely be on your radar.

Originally from Carroliton, Georgia, the sisters, Aleeya and Aleexus Crowder, were raised in a structured and comfortable home, but that never hindered their creative abilities. The twins say that they were able to discover their musical talents from the encouragement of their parents to stimulate their creative side.

Once a shared past-time the twins loved, music quickly transitioned to a hobby to a career.

By channeling influence from the realness of nature, lyrically emphasizing the truth, and the hopes to provide relief through music, the twins have released nine songs across the streaming platform Spotify.

With their devotion to individuality and putting out creative energy through their music, it is no surprise that they feel inspired from Masego and Andre 3000 as well.

While the onset of the pandemic has halted many artists ability to grow and perform, Elixir is using this time to tap into their creativity. When asked how they’ve been using their time they said, “We have been working on more music and projects and we also are starting a new business wire wrapping healing stones that is keeping us busy as well.”

With live performances also on halt, Elixir is planning a virtual performance toward the end of October in order to still connect with their fans, while still following regulations.

What’s next for the twins? Well, they say they plan on creating and sharing music videos for their previously released singles and continue to grow as a duo.

Living Future - Chloe Rokelle Sun

Sustainability and Smart Technology Brings Living Future®

2020 has been a year of unprecedented challenges for the humanity. Covid-19 has changed the world irrevocably, and cities around the world are searching for new ways of providing heightened safety and hygiene measures while maintaining a welcoming, sustainable environment. The vulnerabilities of the current state of urban hygiene and health systems around the world demand urgent, efficient and sustainable solutions. This brought a new source of inspiration for architects and designers involved in the search for alternative solutions to help us avoid a global pandemic in the future and improve urban sanitation in general. With this in mind, architectural and interior designer Chloe Rokelle Sun developed Living Future® a sustainable art installation that introduces color, light, greenery, and provocative, space-enhancing architecture to any public space, while at the same time offering an inviting handwashing station that filters and recovers the water it uses.

Living Future® combines important principles of biophilic design, sustainability, and social purpose, providing a clean, green source of fresh water for public handwashing to promote hygiene and combat the transmission of airborne viruses, while beautifying and enhancing public spaces through sustainable technology.

Urban centers throughout the world are extremely densely populated, increasing public health risks and posing daunting challenges to public safety in the new reality of infectious airborne viruses. To meet this challenge, the pioneering project, Living Future®, is designed to be installed in urban spaces such as shopping malls, office buildings, city plazas, and other high-traffic areas. While enlivening public spaces with captivating aesthetics, Living Future® makes handwashing inviting, sustainable, and pleasant, offering a first and most important step toward increasing public hygiene in the post-pandemic world.

THE MAKING OF: Living Future®

Living Future utilizes technology from some of the most forward-thinking contemporary architectural projects and repurposes them for a new, smarter, and safer future. This biophilic installation is both a modular, interactive lighting sculpture and a living machine filtration system, uniting the conceptual and aesthetic capacities of sculpture with the ecological and technological.

Nanoleaf modular smart LED light panels on the installation’s facade can be customized in color and luminosity to enhance any environment, adding captivating colors through interactive lights that react to the touch.

Live plants sustained by Living Machine Technology are placed throughout the design structure, providing a calming sense of nature regardless of the feature’s location, while also contributing to the wastewater filtration system. The installation’s built-in ecosystem blends cutting-edge science and engineering with beneficial microorganisms and the plants’ natural properties to generate a clean, reusable, lasting water source.

The first Living Future installation is planned for 2021. Keep an eye out by following Chloe Rokelle Sun below!

Ritt Momney Joins Disruptor / Columbia Records

Ritt Momney  recently joined the Disruptor / Columbia Records family. In case you’re not familiar, Ritt Momney is the solo project of 20 year-old Salt Lake City native, Jack Rutter, which began as an indie rock band and became a personal outlet for Jack after his bandmates left on Mormon missions and his girlfriend left for college.

Sighting James Blake, Earl Sweatshirt, and STRFKR as musical influences, Ritt released his debut album Her and All of My Friends in July 2019. The 13-track LP shows how he grapples with loss, loneliness, and a drift away from Mormon culture. One of his most popular tracks on the album, “(If) The Book Doesn’t Sell,” tells the story of him questioning religion as a 14 year old. Listen HERE.

Ritt Momney was slated to hit the road with Dayglow this spring, but due to COVID the tour got canceled. With newfound time on his hands, he recorded a cover of Corinne Bailey Rae’s 2006 Grammy-nominated hit “Put Your Records On.” Ritt’s modern take on the nostalgic track immediately gained traction on TikTok, with over 40k videos posted per day using the sound, including posts by Lizzo and Iggy Azalea. The track is currently #26 on Spotify US, #50 on Spotify Global and climbing. “Put Your Records On” reached #1 on Spotify’s US Viral 50 and #2 on Global Viral 50 and has been added to various Spotify playlists including Today’s Top Hits, Pop Rising, Chill Hits, and more. It’s also currently in the Top 100 on Apple Music Global and iTunes.

In an interview with Rolling Stone about the inspiration behind recording “Put Your Records On,” Ritt says: “Right after COVID-19 hit, I wanted to be working on something, but I really felt that — with how depressing the world already was at that point — I couldn’t handle writing a depressing song. It was too much. I started playing around with the idea of manifesting happiness instead of projecting my own sadness. It was pretty therapeutic….[I] felt like a lot of the people I know and care about could use a song like this right now…. All the credit goes to Corinne Bailey Rae.”

Stay tuned for more from Ritt Momney coming soon!

Pine-Sol x COVID-19

By Justin Lyons

The United States Environmental Protection Agency approved Pine-Sol Original Multi-Surface Cleaner to be added to a list of disinfectants proven to kill SARS-Cov-2.

According to a press release from The Clorox Company, a third-party testing company found that Pine-Sol killed SARS-Cov-2 on “hard non-porous surfaces” within ten minutes of contact.

The entire list of approved disinfectants, including many others from The Clorox Company, can be seen by clicking right here.

The key appears to be glycolic acid, as it is listed as an active ingredient in killing SARS-Cov-2 by the EPA and is listed in the ingredients for Pine-Sol Multi-Surface Cleaner by SmartLabel.

The press release pointed out that 58% of black millennial women are essential workers during the pandemic, putting them on the front lines and, therefore, at high risk of contracting the virus.

40% of black millennial women also expressed concern about access to disinfectants that kill SARS-Cov-2, while over 60% are concerned about keeping their families safe, keeping themselves safe and their financial stability.

While things like bleach, disinfectant wipes and Lysol sprays remain in high demand and difficult to find, Pine-Sol could help the fight against COVID-19 inside homes.

Chris Hyder, vice president and general manager of the cleaning division at The Clorox Company, looks at Pine-Sol’s availability as an important factor.

“With a long-standing history of being a powerful cleaner and disinfectant, and the trusted brand choice within the Black community, Pine-Sol® Original Multi-Surface Cleaner now offers the clean families have trusted through generations with the protection they need right now against the spread of SARS-Cov-2, the virus that causes COVID-19,” Hyder said. “We hope this new Pine-Sol® kill claim will increase access to disinfectants that can help prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

The Clorox Company’s press release also explained the most effective way to use Pine-Sol on household surfaces.

First, apply Pine-Sol with a clean sponge or cloth to the surface. Then, wet the surface and allow ten minutes to kill SARS-Cov-2 before finally rinsing area. The Clorox Company also advised removing excess dirt and dust with a pre-clean prior to using Pine-Sol.

The EPA’s list of approved disinfectants says additional products may be effective against SARS-Cov-2, and they will update their list as needed. They also advise following the directions on all product labels for safe and effective use.

It is possible that products not on the list could work against SARS-Cov-2 if it has an EPA registration number and lists human coronavirus as a target pathogen.

The Hotel Industry Remains On the Brink of Collapse

As devastated industries wait for Congress to pass another round of COVID-19 recovery legislation, a new survey of American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) members shows that the hotel industry remains on the brink of collapse because of the pandemic. Results show 68 percent of hotels have less than half of their typical, pre-crisis staff working full time, and without further governmental assistance, 74 percent of respondents said they would be forced to lay off additional employees.

AHLA conducted the survey of hotel industry owners, operators, and employees from September 14-16, 2020, with more than 1,000 respondents. Key findings include the following:

  • 68% have less than half of their typical, pre-crisis staff working full time currently.
  • Half of hotel owners said that they are in danger of foreclosure by their commercial real estate debt lenders due to COVID-19.
  • Without further governmental assistance, 74% of respondents said they would be forced into further layoffs.
  • More than 2/3 of hotels (67%) report that they will only be able to last six more months at current projected revenue and occupancy levels absent any further relief.

To raise awareness for hotel industry priorities, AHLA has rallied its members to “Save Hotel Jobs,” a grassroots initiative for hoteliers across the country to urge lawmakers to swiftly pass additional stimulus relief before departing on recess to campaign. This ongoing effort by hoteliers has resulted in more than 200,000 letters, calls, and tweets to members of Congress, an unprecedented demonstration of unity and support. Among hotel owner respondents, nearly half are in danger of foreclosure by commercial real estate lenders.

“It’s time for Congress to put politics aside and prioritize the many businesses and employees in the hardest-hit industries. Hotels are cornerstones of the communities they serve, building strong local economies and supporting millions of jobs,” said Chip Rogers, president and CEO of the American Hotel & Lodging Association. “Every Member of Congress needs to hear from us about the urgent need for additional support so that we can keep our doors open and bring back our employees.”

Rogers reiterated the urgency of the situation on a call on Friday with White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, followed by a conference call with business and travel leaders, hosted by the Economic Innovation Group. The most pressing concerns for the industry right now include access to liquidity and debt service, and liability protection.

“These are real numbers, millions of jobs, and the livelihoods of people who have built their small business for decades, just withering away because Congress has done nothing,” said Rogers on the call. “We can’t afford to let thousands of small businesses die and all of the jobs associated with them be lost for many years.”

Hoteliers can visit hotelsact.org to connect to their elected officials.

COVID-19 Shifted Modern Business

COVID-19 and the global pandemic has presented a significant and unforeseen challenge to many businesses. The government and public health restrictions have meant closures for some, and the economic impacts have meant customers are more nervous than ever before. As a business, managing through this pandemic means shifting the fundamental way you see your business. To better understand how COVID-19 has shifted the perspective of modern business, consider these points.

Managing the books

Prior to the pandemic, businesses could be excused for not being across the minutia of detail when it came to their day to day finances. Managing inventories, purchasing and other key accounting tasks may have been considered handled in a lot of circumstances. With the pandemic taking force, it’s been crucial to shift that perspective and consider online accounting software. As businesses shift operations away from bricks and mortar style offices, to working from home, online software is key. Businesses need to be able to manage and keep an eye on all finances in real-time. Making critical accounting decisions remotely could make or break the business, so your business needs to be agile in the way it operates. Traditional businesses could get away with quarterly reporting or even monthly, but the modern business will need to be much more focused on the numbers week to week or even day-to-day. Online software can keep you up-to-date with the accounting details you need to make smarter decisions.

Smart tooling

Previously, businesses considered tools which would allow their employees, customers and competitors to connect a nice service to have. Since COVID took hold, it’s been crucial for the modern business to adapt and offer a range of tools to help create those connections. In lieu of seeing people face-to-face, businesses needed to find ways to create virtual collaboration and avoid an over-reliance on traditional communication methods, like email.

The modern business has shifted its perspective on these tools and some are now even seeking to find ways to create these virtual connections, similar to the water cooler type conversations you’d see in a physical office. This pandemic has created a divide in project teams, product teams and many other teams where close collaboration was a key to success. Modern businesses, rather than abandoning these ways of working, have adapted and found tools that help them connect better in a separated world.

Productive home workers

Prior to the pandemic taking hold, a lot of traditional business managers held the belief that working from home was unproductive. With public health advice all but demanding businesses have employees work from home, this perspective has certainly changed. Many businesses experienced a changing of the guard, albeit through a transition period. But as time goes by, the modern business is realising that expensive leases and large tenancy are simply not necessary. Employees have proven that productivity will go on, and that business output doesn’t suffer simply because staff are at home.

Without commutes, some staff even prefer to work longer hours. The pandemic has offered the modern business an advantage to be taken. Allowing staff to become flexible with work arrangements both now and into the future can help build a more engaged and focused workforce. The caveat to this is ensuring staff have the appropriate setups and systems access to do their jobs effectively.

~

COVID-19 has challenged many widely held beliefs about the way a traditional business needs to run. From managing the day to day to allowing staff the freedom to work from wherever they are most productive. Modern business perspectives have changed and a lot of managers would argue it’s about time too.

SAMI-Aid, a patient-focused telemedicine platform and healthcare concierge company, announced that it is offering free telehealth appointments to those who have been affected by the wildfires raging across the state of California and other western states. The California-based company saw an opportunity to use its platform to help those who have been affected by the fires.
