Eight Luxurious Design Inspirations For Your Dream Home

Ready to give shape to the dreams you’ve always nurtured about your luxury home? While it’s exciting to design your envisioned living space, the process to achieve the right balance of form and function can be daunting.

Regardless of style, creating a luxury home design calls for special attention to detail, the ability to see the big picture, and a certain degree of cohesiveness. But at the end of the day, your luxury abode should echo your personal flair.

Considering all of these factors, it can be overwhelming to determine home design ideas that can be successfully turned into reality. In this blog post, we’ve handpicked some luxury features that will serve as your guide and inspiration to get started.

  1. Experiment with patterns and neutrals. While neutrals and pastels can add warmth and cosiness to a space, patterns are the way to go if you’re looking to add some drama and depth to your home’s interior. Combining the two in varying ranges and scales is a great way to infuse visual interest in a room.
  2. Go bold in small spaces
Shades of white and neutral tones are the most common choices when it comes to small spaces. But who said that’s the norm? Go against the grain and opt for brave colours and graphic prints to let small spaces like powder room and narrow walkways come alive.
  3. Let your hallway stand out
If your colour choices are usually more reserved, step outside of your comfort zone by choosing a bold hue like purple for a hallway. It is unexpected and can be a chic backdrop for showcasing an art collection, as in this design by David Hicks.
  4. Create an aesthetic mudroom
There’s no doubt about the functionality of a mudroom — it’s a brilliant way to utilise space where your extra belongings and muddy shoes can be dumped before entering the home. Plus, it offers a great opportunity to add extra storage in a busy household. But why go basic when designing one? Using patterned tiles, high-end hooks, and custom cabinets, you can create stylish mudrooms that can be as minimal or as extravagant as you wish!
  5. Design a home office with custom features
With the growth of home working and popularity of remote working trends, a home office is no longer an afterthought. It’s also no longer a boring space where you simply get your work done. With a bit of imagination along with the creative use of custom décor, storage, and furniture, you can turn it into a luxurious private space that will inspire productivity and elegance.
  6. Let the high-end theatre experience come home
With a well-designed home theatre, it’s possible to elevate your viewing experience up a notch! Assemble the necessary elements such lighting, visuals, and sound and blend them beautifully with smart design and stunning décor to create your personal ‘den’ for enjoying your favourite movies and shows.
  7. Include mirrors in the mix
Mirrors are an incredible interior design device that can be used in a range of different ways to reflect light and create an illusion of spaciousness. Particularly, LED mirror, when added to your bathroom and smaller spaces, can effectively ramp up the luxury look and feel. By the way, Interiorbeat has done a great job by putting together retailers that offer designer mirrors in different forms and colors, so you can choose the perfect one to enhance the beauty of your interior design.
  8. Make a statement with artwork display
When it comes to showcasing your artworks, sky is the limit. You might want to practice restrain or indulge in excesses — it all depends of your taste and choice of art. Go about it by placing your collection of artworks and collectibles strategically all over your living space. Or, choose a wall to create a gallery of artworks in minimalist frames. Both treatments work can wonderfully to create a big statement. With these ideas as your guide, take yourself on a journey to build your luxury home that reflects who you are.

COVID-19 Outbreaks at Colleges

Back-to-school season is in full swing; college students are moving back to campus and preparing for class. However, as we’ve all probably heard plenty of times in the past few months, these are unprecedented times. The COVID-19 pandemic is still very much present, and though students have been back at school for only a short time, many universities are already facing outbreaks.

To start, The University of North Carolina At Chapel Hill has already switched to entirely remote learning after 130 students tested positive for the coronavirus during the very first week back. Even though residence halls were at limited capacity and less than 30% of total classroom seats were being taught in-person, case counts skyrocketed. Last week, footage of UNC students on a slip and slide, playing volleyball, and gathering in groups without face coverings outside of the Hinton James Residence Hall was revealed. A day later, a cluster of COVID-19 cases at the dorm was reported- the fourth reported in three days. One of the clusters was identified at the Sigma Nu fraternity.

Meanwhile, an Oklahoma State University sorority house was put under quarantine after 23 members tested positive for COVID-19. The entire Pi Beta Phi chapter house is in isolation for two weeks, and one member who lives elsewhere is also in isolation.

“This was expected,” Monica Roberts, OSU director of media relations, said, “When you bring back 20,000 students, there will invariably be more cases related to campus. We’ve prepared for this for five months and have protocols in place to manage the situation. Our priority is the safety and well-being of our campus community and transparency in communications.”

Prior to move-in, OSU students received a mandatory COVID-19 test and 22 tested positive and had to either quarantine in their dorm rooms or in an isolation room.

The University of Connecticut evicted several students after they learned of a party in one of their residence halls.

“It’s something everyone coming back to campus knew would happen,” editor-in-chief of UConn’s student newspaper Peter Fenteany told CNN, “But it’s not something that I expected on the first weekend.”

“According to the report we reviewed this morning, students were not wearing masks, closely assembled, and endangering not only their own health and wellbeing, but that of others at a time when UConn is working to protect our community and resume classes in the context of a deadly global pandemic,” UConn’s Associate Vice President and Dean of Students, Eleanor JB Daugherty, and Executive Director of Residential Life, Pamela Schipani, wrote.

Penn State University saw hundreds of students gather outside of the freshmen dorms on Wednesday night to party. The party lasted about an hour before it was shut down. The gathering took place two days after move-in and the same day that a fraternity on campus was suspended for hosting a maskless social

“I ask students flaunting the university’s health and safety expectations a simple question: Do you want to be the person responsible for sending everyone home?” Penn State President Eric Barron questioned, “This behavior cannot and will not be tolerated. We have said from the beginning health and safety is our priority, and if the university needs to pivot to fully remote instruction we will.”

“Penn State created this situation by deciding to bring all students back to campus,” said Sarah Townsend, a professor and organizer of the faculty group Coalition for a Just University, “And now the very least it should do is immediate testing of all students on arrival, followed by 10% daily surveillance testing throughout the semester. Enough of the magical thinking.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning that many university settings, including dorms, are at high risk for viral transmission.

Eric Clapton × Pedrito Martinez – My Father’s Eyes

Today sees widely respected Latin percussionist Pedrito Martinez release a reimagined duet version of Eric Clapton’s My Father’s Eyes” – featuring a collaborative performance with the guitar legend himself. Having the opportunity to work closely with Eric Clapton is the fulfillment of a longtime dream for Pedrito that had its roots at New York City’s Guantanamera restaurant, where Pedrito’s group got started, and where Eric was a frequent guest.

Inspired by getting to know one another, Pedrito had the idea in early 2019 to put together a re-imagined version of Clapton’s deeply personal song “My Father’s Eyes” and send it to the three-time inducted Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member for his thoughts. . Upon receiving the initial recording, Eric Clapton invited the innovative Cuban percussionist to London last year to work together , where he added his own vocals and guitar to My Father’s Eyes and additional guitar contributions to two more tracks that will also be included in Pedrito’s upcoming album, Acertijos, expected to be released in early 2021.

“Pedrito is a genius…working with him has been a revelation to me.” – Wynton Marsalis

“…dizzying rhythmic webs, songs within songs, and the thrill of real Cuban rumba transformed into something as hip and irresistible as great pop.” – Larry Blumenfeld, Wall Street Journal

Mika – I Love Beirut

  • Beirut born, British-Lebanese singer Mika will live-stream a concert across four time zones on 19 September in aid of the people of the city
  • Mika will perform an intimate show from a special location, with a number of surprises from friends, all money from ticket sales and donations going directly to aid charities helping those affected in Beirut
  • ‘I Love Beirut’ partners with GoFundMe to launch a campaign where additional donations can be made
  • Tickets will be available to purchase via Ticketmaster worldwide at 9am BST / 10am CET on Monday, 24 August

Today, Mika announces the ‘I love Beirut’ benefit concert, which will be performed on Saturday 19 September and will be live-streamed across four time zones via YouTube. Tickets cost £10 / $10 / €10 and will be available from TicketMaster alongside the GoFundMe campaign, where people can make additional donations to the cause with 100% of all proceeds being split across Red Cross Lebanon and Save the Children Lebanon. Tickets go on sale at 9am BST / 10am CET on Monday 24 August.

This intimate performance has been initiated by Lebanese born singer Mika after he was profoundly affected by the scale of devastation from the explosion in Beirut docks and its impact on the people of the city. Following on from his ‘Love Letter to Beirut’ (see note to editors below) which he wrote directly in the aftermath of the explosion. In an effort to do more he has created ‘I Love Beirut’ an event to raise funds to help those who have been affected by the devastating explosion.

Mika comments: -“After all the years of civil war, financial crisis and political upheaval, the news of the tragic explosion was unbelievable. Although far away, my heart broke for the families losing their homes, their livelihoods and their loved ones in this catastrophe. I wanted to do something to help in any small way I can. That is why I am staging a live stream concert in aid of the people of the city. Beirut has been through so much and the resilience and strength the Lebanese people is undeniable. I have no doubt that the city will recover and the unique life of this magical city will resume once again. Beirut is the place of my birth, is part of me and will always be in my heart. ‘I ❤️ Beirut’.

The Lebanese United Nations team has reported the explosion was like 15 years of war in 15 seconds, comparing its impact to the devastation from the country’s civil war that lasted from 1975 to 1990. Miles from the blast site apartments are wrecked and families left homeless. It’s estimated 300,000 people do not have homes fit to live in, as Lebanon now has to undertake a single recovery effort of unprecedented scale.

Hospitals in Beirut are now overrun with wounded people, with some being referred to Tripoli, 50 miles to the north of Beirut, for treatment. The destruction of Beirut’s port will devastate the country further as it relies heavily on imports for its essential supplies. Red Cross Lebanon, Lebanese Food Bank, Islamic Relief and Save the Children Lebanon. are working around the clock to help those on the ground affected by the blast. Donations will fund immediate emergency response and wider long-term rehabilitation.
