Leo The Kind for 360 Magazine

Leo The Kind – Ain’t Nobody Gon’ Judge

Positioning himself as an artist to watch for 2020, critically acclaimed Boston-born singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Leo The Kind releases a new single entitled “Ain’t Nobody Gon’ Judge” today. It serves as his official debut for LAVA/Republic Records.

On the track, which got its first look on The Fader, today Leo commented, “I wrote ‘Ain’t Nobody Gon’ Judge’ when I first moved out of my parents’ house. That freedom I felt when I first moved out on my own and could do what I wanted without judgement was the first spark of inspiration. But women have it way harder than men, they are constantly judged. I wrote the song to speak to the women of the world for what they go through every day, wishing them freedom from judgement. While I can’t ever know what it is like to be a woman, I want to empathize as much as I can and say, ‘I see you, I won’t judge you’.”

Leo The Kind instantly sets himself apart. The Boston-born singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, moves to his own beat and gives the world some positivity with his own alternative R&B style. In 2019, he caught the attention of GRAMMY® Award-winning producer and songwriter Swagg R’Celious [H.E.R., Kehlani] and his GRAMMY® nominated production partner Keithen “Bassman” Foster. This union quickly produced and released his mixtape, The U.G.L.Y., which featured “Head Honcho” and was championed by Apple Music editorial on top playlists, including New Music Daily, New In Hip Hop, and Get Up And Go Day One, and more. The mixtape was just the beginning, as Leo inked a deal with LAVA Records. Recently posting up 10 million total streams independently, and receiving acclaim from Lyrical Lemonade and Earmilk, he is set to release his new single “Ain’t Nobody Gon’ Judge,” an anthem to inspire others.

Lupe Fiasco House for 360 Magazine

Lupe Fiasco × Kaelin Ellis – HOUSE

Today, GRAMMY-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco and Orlando producer Kaelin Ellis released their collaborative EP HOUSE via 1st & 15th / Thirty Tigers. The EP came together by chance — on May 5th, Lupe was tagged on Twitter in the replies of a Tweet from Kaelin Ellis, a rising producer who had been posting clips of himself creating beats in lockdown. Reading “Get this to @LupeFiasco somehow,” Lupe listened, liked the beat, screen recorded Kaelin’s video, dropped it in GarageBand, freestyled over the beat, exported it in Quicktime, then Tweeted the song just a few hours after he first saw the mention.

The two then began interacting over Twitter, Kaelin sending beats to Lupe, who rapped over the tracks he liked. A few weeks later they had a 5 song EP titled HOUSE, referencing that the two had created the collaborative EP locked down in their respective houses.

For the album art, Lupe and Kaelin were inspired by iconic Columbia Records jazz album covers like Dave Brubeck’s Time Out and Charles Mingus’ Mingus Ah Um. The art on HOUSE features a painting of “The Glass House” painted by Peter Gellatly, the father of Lupe’s friend Sky. Peter recently died of COVID-19 — in the album’s liner notes, Sky Gellatly eulogizes his father, and includes a story about how Peter was a Merchant Marine who once sold a boat to the government of Nicaragua, then rode a motorcycle through Central America back to the US, returning with the money he’d use to build Sky’s childhood home.

For the EP’s first track “HOMME MADE,” Lupe had his friend Virgil Abloh speak about the concept of a house — Virgil has a Master of Architecture, and Lupe wanted to present an architect’s perspective. Abloh is also featured on the song “SHOES,” where he describes hypothetically designing the shoes that Ahmaud Arbery was wearing when he was murdered. The song “DINOSAURS” is about how we could be on the brink of another mass extinction, and “SLEDOM” (“models” spelled backwards) is a critique of the modeling industry. The final song “LF95” is the original track Lupe recorded that set this project into motion.

About Kaelin Ellis

With over 10+ years of performance and hands-on creative experience under his belt, Kaelin Ellis is a multi-platinum music producer that has established himself among the top class of producers in the modern electronic / hip-hop beat scene. Formerly known as mr.mockwell, he was originally part of an online crew, dubbed “lofalab,” where he came in contact with fellow musicians and later collaborative-partners, Kaytranada, Sango and many more. Kaelin also has many production credits with other artists such as Waldo, Deffie, and K-pop supergroup Exo on their song “Jekyll.” Since the beginning of his musical journey, he’s managed to upkeep a discography that sonically keeps up to many of his heroes.

Jericho High School Students illustration done by Mina Tocalini of 360 MAGAZINE.

Student Led Leukemia Fundraiser

Three students from Jericho High School have broken a national fundraising record – previously set by one of the students’ older brothers last year – by collecting more than $430,000 in just seven weeks for the annual Leukemia Lymphoma Society “Students of the Year” campaign.

Team Just Cure It (2.0) was led by co-candidates 15-year-old Harrison Berger, 15-year-old Alexandra Gatoff, and 15-year-old Jake Gershwind of Jericho High School in Long Island, NY. Harrison’s brother Ryan was a co-candidate for Team Just Cure It (1.0), which was the previous national record holder, set in 2019.

“What they have accomplished is nothing short of remarkable,” said Sara Lipsky, President of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Long Island Chapter. “Cancer doesn’t stop for a pandemic and to see what they accomplished provides families who are fighting cancer together a lot of hope.”

Harrison says the outlook for fundraising was intimidating, including rising to the challenge of beating his brother’s team’s success. But he says he saw the opportunity to develop a network and personal skills of persuasion – including talking CEOs into donating tens of thousands of dollars for LLS – as something that would benefit him long term as well.

Jake says he and his teammates each have a connection to cancer: his grandfather passed away from stomach cancer when he was five years old. That, and the realization that blood cancer is the key to fighting all variety of cancers – including those afflicting children – was the motivation he says he needed to pull together his family and friends to help. “I thought we had zero chance to win, because the previous record was so big,” said Jake. “But I kept telling myself, we gotta keep going.”

“We did lots of planning and had donations set up to come in right away,” says Jake. “Still, you have to be persistent. Not everyone will say yes at first. But we kept following up and didn’t let people say no.”

The Just Cure It (2.0) team also enlisted the help of about 25 of their classmates from Jericho High School and pulled in the donations before the COVID-19 lockdowns went into effect.

“COVID has taught us to look on the positive side,” says Jake. “We’re changing lives, helping people survive. One kid might have better cancer treatment because of the money we raised.”

The Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world‘s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS Mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the work and provides free information and support services.

Arizona Zervas Nightrider for 360 Magazine

Arizona Zervas – NIGHTRIDER

Freshly VMA-nominated singer-songwriter Arizona Zervas has released his new single “NIGHTRIDER” today via Columbia Records. The song is accompanied by a dark and sultry visual that follows Zervas as he drinks Hennessy, gets tattooed, and takes his motorcycle out on a late-night robbery spree in the city with his girl, before ending up at the club with all his coveted cash. NIGHTRIDER made its broadcast premiere on MTV Live, MTVU, and on the Viacom Times Square billboard. Listen to the song HERE and watch the visual HERE.

Zervas’ previous track “24” followed “FML” which surpassed over 100 million combined streams worldwide and followed hot on the heels of “ROXANNE”. The billion-streamed smash has been certified triple-platinum, reached Top 4 on Billboard’s Hot 100, hit #1 on rhythmic radio, and received a remix featuring Swae Lee.

Arizona Zervas, who writes and engineers all of his songs himself, has steadily been releasing music since 2016 and has played more than 50 shows across the U.S. The explosive rise of “ROXANNE” began late last year when it was topping Spotify’s U.S. Top 50 chart just a few weeks after release before Zervas joined the Columbia Records family. “ROXANNE” is the first track by an unsigned, fully independent artist to top the chart since the beginning of 2017 – the earliest date on Spotify’s online archive.
