Yoshikitty Tops Sanrio Rankings

The final results of the 2020 Sanrio Character Ranking were announced earlier this month and Yoshikitty has defeated Hello Kitty to win #1 in France, Germany, and Brazil, as well as #2 in China.

The Sanrio Character Ranking competition grows more intense every year, and the 2020 event allowed fans from all over the world to vote on a selection of Sanrio’s 80 most-popular characters. Yoshikitty’s massive international support brought the beloved character to #6 worldwide overall, placing in the Top 10 for the fifth straight year in a row. To view the full Sanrio Character Ranking voting results of the 80 characters, click HERE.

In addition to online voting, other voting methods included purchases at Sanrio shops, which overwhelmed demand for the already-popular Yoshikitty items. Stores sold out immediately, and orders were backed up for months. Even with such a voting handicap, Yoshikitty still won a top position among other iconic characters such as Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, and Pompompurin.

Yoshikitty — based on Yoshiki, rock star, composer and the leader of X Japan and created by the original Hello Kitty designer Yuko Yamaguchi — was born in 2009 as the first Hello Kitty character who is modeled after a real, living person. With more than 500 items on sale, Yoshikitty is associated with many top brands. This year, Yoshikitty also won first place among all 80 characters in the pre-sale of the “Sanrio Character Pedometer”. Because of the award, the decision was made to create the special edition “Yoshikitty Digital Health Meter” just for this character in addition to the “Yoshikitty Pedometer”, with sales starting June 9.

Yoshiki commented, “Thanks to everyone who voted for Yoshikitty. I’m so happy to see the support from fans not just in Japan but also from around the world.” Yoshiki, who composed the official theme song for Hello Kitty, teased fans with the idea that “Maybe I’ll compose a theme song for Yoshikitty to say ‘thank you’ for all the support. Not only that, I would like to continue delivering wonderful music, so that I can give back to everyone as much as possible.”

Fordie Hays × More in This Glass

Singer-songwriter Fordie Hays still has “More in This Glass” to share with fans of traditional country music. His new single premiered exclusively on Cowboys & Indians and is available across all music streaming platforms today.

“I love the sweet, heartfelt songs,” Hays shared with Cowboys & Indians. “I think the fans feel the same. ‘More in This Glass’ is one of those. You can sit back and close your eyes and you feel like you’re there in the song. Those have always been the songs I love the best.”

This Mendenhall, Mississippi native is no stranger to hard work. In the early years of his musical career, Hays would spend six months playing shows in Nashville and six months putting in manual labor on an oil rig back home. His determination and hard work paid off in 2011, when his first single, “Life in the Slow Lane” was released. The song reached No. 19 on Top 20 On Demand. This success eventually led to him being signed by Go Time Records, an indie label owned by Kent Wells. Wells, a musician and producer known for his work with Dolly Parton, helped Hays record and release many songs including “Brand New,” “Redneck Juliet” and “There’s Gonna Be a Fight” featuring American Idol alumni Skyler Laine.

After taking a few years off to raise his kids, Hays is more than ready to bring his classic country style back to the fans. Most recently, Hays started working with songwriter and producer Jeff Silvey. Hays has been hard at work in the studio, writing and recording new music with plans to release an EP later this year.

Sam Johnson – The Kids Are Alright

Following the success of his breakthrough debut EP Eastcote at the end of 2019, British singer and songwriter Sam Johnson now returns to unveil the first taste of his second EP with his brand new single “The Kids Are Alright” out now. Listen here!

Lifted from his soon-to-be-announced new EP, Are We There Yet?, this new release sees the frontman in a far more nostalgic guise. Reflective and progressive in every way, his latest offering looks to combine the emotional weight of Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell with the eagerness to communicate of Ben Howard, creating a true coming of age tale beyond his tender years.

Speaking about his new single, he said, “I wrote this song whilst looking over my friend Nick Atkinson’s DVD collection for some inspiration during a couple of days in his studio ‘The Barn’ just north of London. I’d gone up there to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a few creative days writing in the countryside. I spotted one of my favourite films ‘Old Boy’ on his shelf, and there in that moment conceived the first line of the song, ‘Old boys, new tricks, and suburban Friday fun.’ From there I started looking back on my teenage years growing up in a small market town on the border of England and Wales and all the mischief my friends and I would get up to. When I then discovered Nick’s copy of the 2010 movie ‘The Kids Are Alright’ it all made sense. It wrapped up the sentiment of the song perfectly for the defining line of the chorus. My friends and I were at times flawed and brilliant, at times stupid and inspired, but all the while we had our hearts in the right places. We were alright. I wanted to write the soundtrack to my youth, and this is it.”

Opening up with the lead track “The Kids Are Alright,” his latest EP is set to see him grow more as an artist and a human being throughout. Constructed alongside esteemed studio team The Barn, this initial offering is a song that waves farewell to adolescence, carrying a gilded and Autumnal quality to it.

“I create characters influenced by what I see around me,” he says. “A lot of the lyrics are touchstones of my childhood, and where I grew up…and the people that I grew up around.”

You need personal injury attorneys when filing personal injury claims

When another party’s negligence injures a person, the injured individual should strongly consider speaking with a lawyer who specializes in personal injury. Personal Injury Attorneys Houston are available to assist their clients who have been injured by another person’s negligence in the city.

When can you claim personal injury?

These claims often include car accidents, slip and fall, medical malpractice, workplace injuries, and assaults. They can also be filed when the consumer product is defective and causes bodily injury. In a personal injury claim, a person may seek monetary damages, either physical or mental, depending on the extent of the injury. Personal injury claims include other factors, such as loss of wages or loss of work due to injury.

Specialized personal injury lawyer

Not every lawyer is specialized in personal injury litigation. It is necessary to find a lawyer who is experienced with not only personal injury litigation but also with your specific injury. During litigation, insurance companies have lawyers who have full knowledge of personal injury laws. Therefore, it is also important for the consumer or the injured party to have an equally knowledgeable lawyer. Specialist attorneys who specialize in a particular injury can use this knowledge and their resources to handle litigation.

Reduce the waiting burden

These attorneys have access to medical professionals who can help strengthen the case. They should also have access to legal matters similar to yours. Personal injury case preparation takes time. You need an attorney to reduce the waiting burden by filing appropriate moves, collecting witness statements, and managing the discovery process.

Skilled lawyer

There are specialized advocates for managing every sort of injury. The Medical Misuse Act is a perfect example of why these lawyers exist. This type of law is very complex and very specific. Therefore, it is necessary to find a lawyer who specializes in a specific injury and knows this law. Spinal cord and brain injury are very sensitive areas, and these types of injuries require only a skilled lawyer. When a person suffers a significant injury in the form of a brain or spinal cord injury, they are often unable to function again and require lifelong medical care. Sometimes, these injuries can cause paralysis. The lawyer representing these cases must be able to identify the cause with medical professionals’ help to prove the case. Lack of the right lawyer with the right expert means your case will prove a waste of time and significant money.

Some lawyers are specialized in all types of accidents, such as slip and fall, car accidents, and construction accidents. There are also those who specialize in litigation involving defective products. When talking to lawyers, ask questions such as: What are the areas of litigation? Have they worked on cases like yours before, and, if so, how many? What was the result of those cases?

Expertise and knowledge of lawyer

You cannot win a personal injury case without a qualified and experienced lawyer. Personal injury attorneys provide expertise and knowledge about the law that a typical person does not have. They will ensure that you are treated appropriately and that your claim is filed properly. Hiring a lawyer who is specialized in your particular injury will reduce the burden of preparing for a claim so that you can recover from your injury.

Danielle Allen Kluge Prize

By Brett Zongker
Website: John W. Kluge Center

Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden announced today that Danielle Allen, director of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics and the James Bryant Conant University Professor at Harvard University, will receive the 2020 John W. Kluge Prize for Achievement in the Study of Humanity.

Allen will collaborate with the Library on an initiative she has designed, titled “Our Common Purpose—A Campaign for Civic Strength at the Library of Congress.” It will include programs to engage schools, universities, political leaders, and the American public in efforts to promote civic engagement. As Allen has said, “Civic education is our common purpose.”

“We are proud to honor Danielle Allen, a leading expert on justice, citizenship and democracy, with the Kluge Prize as she helps to lead a timely national conversation on how we find our common purpose,” Hayden said. “Now is an important moment to discuss ways we can all promote civic strength and engagement, which is at the core of our national culture.”

On July 2, at 7 p.m., join Allen and Kluge Center Director John Haskell for a virtual event: “Danielle Allen Takes on the Hard Questions about Democracy and Public Life.” Free tickets are available here.

Allen is the principal investigator of the Democratic Knowledge Project, a K-16 educational platform designed to identify and disseminate the knowledge and capacities required for democratic citizenship. She is also co-chair of a bipartisan commission, convened by the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, which on June 11 recommended 31 steps to strengthen American institutions and civic culture to help a nation in crisis emerge with a more resilient democracy.

Allen is the author of “Our Declaration: A Reading of the Declaration of Independence in Defense of Equality,” an analysis that reinvigorates public understanding of the founding document of the United States.

Her 2017 memoir, “Cuz: The Life and Times of Michael A.,” examines the way that racism in the justice system and mass incarceration impacted her own family. In it, she made a call for equality before the law and civic participation that animates all of her work.

Allen was a 2001 MacArthur “Genius Grant” recipient for her ability to combine “the classicist’s careful attention to texts and language with the political theorist’s sophisticated and informed engagement.”

As a frequent public lecturer, contributing columnist for The Washington Post, and regular guest on public radio, she discusses issues of citizenship and policy. In her role as director of the E.J. Safra Center, Allen has spearheaded an initiative helping to guide the U.S. response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am deeply honored to be Dr. Hayden’s selection for the Kluge Prize and to be among the prestigious company of past winners,” Allen said. “I look forward to working with the Library of Congress in the coming months on Our Common Purpose – to promote civic education and engagement among Americans of all ages.”

The Kluge Prize recognizes individuals whose outstanding scholarship in the humanities and social sciences has shaped public affairs and civil society. The international prize highlights the value of researchers who communicate beyond the scholarly community and have had a major impact on social and political issues. The prize comes with a $500,000 award. Additional funds from the Library’s Kluge endowment, which funds the award, are being invested in Kluge Center programming.

Hayden selected Allen from a short list of finalists following a request for nominations from scholars and leaders all over the world and a three-stage review process by experts inside and outside the Library.

About Danielle Allen

Danielle Allen was born in Takoma Park, Maryland. She studied classics at Princeton, graduating summa cum laude. She earned M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees in classics from King’s College, University of Cambridge and A.M. and Ph.D. degrees in government from Harvard University.

Allen is an internationally-regarded political theorist with an extensive record of scholarship on justice, citizenship, and democracy in ancient Athens and modern America. From 1997 to 2007 she served on the faculty of the University of Chicago, rising through the academic ranks to become a professor of both classics and political science, as well as a member of the Committee on Social Thought. She spent the next eight years as the UPS Foundation Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, before joining the Harvard faculty as the James Bryant Conant University Professor and Director of the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics in 2015.

About the Kluge Prize

The Kluge Prize is administered by the Kluge Center in the Library of Congress. The Kluge Center’s mission, as established in 2000, is to “reinvigorate the interconnection between thought and action,” bridging the gap between scholarship and policymaking.

To that end, the Kluge Center brings some of the world’s great thinkers to the Library to make use of the Library collections and engage in conversations addressing the challenges facing democracy in the 21st century. For more information visit loc.gov/kluge.

Things To Consider Before Getting A Psychic Readings Online

The world of the paranormal has been something that we’ve been fascinated with ever since science parted ways with the fascination of the hidden universe, in a favor of the observable universe. When we  think about psychics, we often have this idea in her head that movies have conjured. These movies portray older, often heavily accented women with secret knowledge from another side of the world. Fortunately, regardless of where you are in the world, there are people who are, or claim to be, psychic travelers and mediums to a hidden aspect of this physical world. You can call it: “the spirit world“, the world of “dark matter“, or the force that makes up the majority of the mass and energy in the universe. Whatever it is, the gift to perceive this world is just as real as the equations in the charts of the observable universe.

If you are looking to see a psychic, for whatever reason, there are a few things that you should know prior to going in. Here are some of the top considerations prior to your visit.

Keep and Open Mind

Keeping an open mind is one of the top priorities if you are on the receiving end of a psychic reading. The reason for this is because the hidden world is not about solid, concrete yes’s and no’s. That’s for the world of the observable universe. In the world of energy fields, it’s about possibilities and predilections. The people at Psychics 4 Today know this and employ it in their readings. In fact, every good seeker should know this. When you go in for a reading, it’s about where you are at that very moment, relative to the potential events in your life. When psychics map that out, they’re not telling you any one thing will happen, nor are they giving us all the time. This is because time—as physicists are coming to find, is more malleable. Keeping an open mind means understanding these concepts, and not seeking absolutes.

Good Questions

Just like any consultation, whether it be financial, legal, or spiritual, you cannot expect the person on the receiving end to know exactly what’s going on without an explanation. This is also true with a psychic. Contrary to popular belief, you still have to ask the proper questions. If you go in, arrogant as ever, and ask whether or not you’re going to get a promotion, you’re probably not going to get the answer you want. This is because that promotion is heavily based on, not only the conspiring events in the universe, but your own personal decisions in relation to that. If you come in with the right questions, then you might get the answers that you need.

Mediums and Psychics

There’s a difference between a psychic and a medium. You have to know what it is you’re actually looking for. Now, they can be both, and they’re often very normal people. But in terms of their relationship with the supernatural, some can differ. The media is somebody who, through their own personally crafted technique, access is a communication line between themselves, you, and another person. This person could be alive, missing, or possibly passed on to another plane.

The point is a medium is specific in their goal. A psychic, on the other hand, follows the energy source of individuals to give intuitive information, and possible truths in the future. If you go to a psychic, and ask them to communicate with the dead, you’re probably going to get an odd look in the referral. Same thing goes for meeting up with a medium, and asking about in the future. They’re going to give you that same look and, hopefully, a referral.

Different Psychics

Even within the second community, there are people that specialize in different kinds. Once again, it depends on who is sensitive to different types of energy fields. There are multiple forms of “psychic” ability and technique. Divination is one. The definition is your classic assessment on occult information in the future. Divination is the “classic“ image of a psychic with a crystal ball. As much as the crystal ball may be a good means of anchoring energy sources, ultimately it is not totally necessary. Dowsing is another form and technique. Dowsing is used to find things. Traditionally, it was used as a technique to find water. Back when we didn’t have national irrigation systems finding patches of water was the difference between death and survival. Do you serve supernatural means to find water, has kept people alive for thousands, if not millions of years. Again, dowsing has been used to find the ruins, missing individuals, and hidden personal items.

Be Respectful

There’s something that people like to do when they contact a psychic. They, for some reason, want to test the “credibility“ of the psychic they employed. The thing is, once again, these individuals are dealing with absolutes. You’re not going to find a psychic or medium to give you a yes or no on whether or not you have the correct lottery numbers. They are not going to tell you the driver’s license number of your significant other at home. Honestly, this is just a waste of everybody’s time. It’s advisable not to do so, less you just want to waste your hard-earned money to feel a little better about bringing negative energy to an individual that’s trying to help. That’s just bad business.

Beware of Scammers

Even if we’re dealing with the paranormal, and the supernatural, you should still do your research. There are frogs out there. There are people that will claim to contact your dead mother, and charge you more for more information. There are people that will con you into buying lottery tickets from them. There are individuals who do scam. This is where the Internet comes into play. If you can do your research properly, and only stick to those who have a good rating, you have more chances of not getting emotionally manipulated by somebody who claims to have solid answers.

The world of the supernatural is both mysterious and funny. Yes, it’s not always lighthearted, but there’s no rule that says that it can’t be. What we love about psychics, is anchoring ourselves to that massive energy we cannot see. In the world of physics, this “dark energy“ is an entire field that seems to hold the strings on what we can see. Until we have a means of communicating on that other side using the science of the observable universe, we will always have psychics.
