Merilee Kern on Q-Reel Tech

By Merilee A. Kern, MBA

Recent reports indicate there are over 5.6 million electric vehicles (EVs) worldwide, representing a full 64 percent increase from the same time period in 2018—and the second consecutive record growth year in the zero-emissions transport market. With this progression comes commensurate concern over inadequate public EV charging infrastructure. So, it’s not surprising that the Department of Energy (DOE) indicates drivers do more than 80 percent of their EV automobile charging at home. However, even amid the extreme conveniences of doing so at-home, a multitude of safety, technological and affordability problems persist.

As one case in point, the DOE underscores a problem for Level 1 or 2 EVSE home charging, advising that consumers “should store the charging cord securely so it is not damaged,” indicating possible scenarios that may put charging cables and cords at risk of suffering abuse like “being run over by a car.” Other more ominous reports indicate that drivers charging vehicles at home are taking dangerous risks relating to electrocution and fire like “‘daisy-chaining’—using multiple extension leads plugged into one another—to reach their car.”

That report also highlights a survey among electric vehicle owners—including both all-electric and hybrids—finding that the vast majority (a whopping 74 percent) of respondents admit to using “domestic multi-socket extension leads, not suitable for outdoor use, to charge from the mains in their home. This is despite almost nine out of 10 respondents admitting they were aware these should not be used outdoors.” It goes on to reveal that “over half of electric vehicle users who charge using an extension lead, meanwhile, said they had left cables running to their vehicle in the rain.”

Explosion and the leakage of electrolyte chemicals from batteries are among other reported EV charging perils beyond electrocution and fire. Further exacerbating fears, GreenCarReports.com published eye-opening revelations that “not every home charging station on sale in the U.S. has received third-party safety certification,” and that “many charging stations sold on Amazon are not safety tested,” according to a recent investigation by Charged EVs.

These and other serious consumer hazards, coupled with a desire to generally maximize the convenience and efficacy around home EV charging, have inspired extreme innovation from Q-Reel—a smart-charging company that’s developed the world’s first semi-automatic AC charging station for EVs. Q-Reel is poised to offer global consumers intuitive and effortless charging at home with a first-of-its-kind automated ejection system ensuring a hassle-free, hands-free charging experience. This in conjunction with the associated user-friendly smartphone app and built-in camera function, allowing users to monitor their EV inside and out with a simple swipe of a button.

Helmed by a team of Dutch entrepreneurs and engineers, the soon-to-launch Q-Reel solution presents an array of key features and benefits that will result in extreme lifestyle enhancements for EV owners. Highlights include:

    • Enhanced Safety & Equipment Integrity: Retractable cables best ensure that they will not suffer damage or abuse when not in use, while also protecting these parts from rain, humidity and other external elements. Q-Reel also reduces risk of electrocution and fire, thus upholding homeowner and property safety, since the fully third-party safety tested and certified system serves as an appropriate power source. It eliminates any cause to use the main home electricity source with or without extension cords/leads (or a daisy chain thereof)—especially those wires not suited for outside environments. Additionally, the flat cable inside the Q-Reel has enough cooling surface to prevent it from overheating and comes with a thermometer to regulate its temperature.
    • Power-Assisted Operation: Q-Reel takes care of the ‘heavy lifting’ with regards to cable weight with its innovative automated ejection system that disconnects the plug from the car inlet and automatically retracts the cable directly back to the charging station to ensure hassle-free operation.
    • Effortless Charging: Simply grab the plug and connect it to the vehicle charging port and Q-Reel will take care of the rest. Thanks to a proprietary, leading-edge automatic ejection technology, it’s ready to go when you need it.
    • App-Based Monitoring and Control: Q-Reel works with an intuitive mobile app (iOS and Android) that lets users personalize charging time preferences at the swipe of a button. In addition to optimizing the charge process, users can also use the app interface to view live footage from Q-Reel’s built-in camera right from a smartphone.
    • Customizable Display: Q-Reel features a customizable display that offers various personalization options. This makes it possible to add a house number, corporate logo or any other design, if desired.

“In pioneering a superior EV experience from the consumer’s perspective, Q-Reel intends to markedly stimulate widespread EV ownership and adaptation worldwide by easing and enhancing key home charger marketplace concerns relating to safety, usability and affordability,” said Astrid Peters, CEO of Q-Reel. “In removing distinct obstacles around the often complicated and time-consuming traditional charging processes, we aim to help EV drivers everywhere charge their automobiles at their own home, without effort. Doing so will help lower the barrier-to-entry threshold, prompting more people to actually start driving electric.”

Founded in 2020 by a team of Dutch entrepreneurs and engineers, Q-Reel designs, develops and manufactures intelligent charging solutions for electric vehicles for both domestic and business use. With its at-home semi-automatic AC charging station, the company is on track to revolutionize the global EV charging landscape.

Warren has teamed with Gibson Gives–the charitable arm of Gibson guitars–to auction an autographed Les Paul Standard 50’s guitar on CharityBuzz.com, starting today, June 25 through July 9, HERE. Warren has chosen to donate all proceeds from the auction of the Les Paul guitar to support the important work of the Equal Justice Initiative.

I chose these songs based on what we’re all going through together” says Warren Haynes. “I chose the Equal Justice Initiative because all citizens deserve equal justice and the fact that there even needs to be an organization dedicated to fighting for this illustrates how important the work they do is.”

Warren Haynes effortlessly cross-pollinates genres and unfurls solos that broil with passion in his distinctive, signature style. Throughout his prolific career as part of three of the greatest live groups in rock history–Allman Brothers Band, Gov’t Mule and the Dead–and an acclaimed solo artist in his own right, Haynes has become one of music’s most treasured storytellers and his artistry has led to thousands of memorable performances and millions of album and track sales. Haynes is a beacon of creativity and musical excellence that inspires fans as well as fellow musicians, evidenced by the diverse array of artists that he has performed and recorded with.

As the frontman of Gov’t Mule, Haynes along with his bandmates drummer Matt Abts, keyboardist Danny Louis, and bassist Jorgen Carlsson, create consistently honest, organic and daring music, leading them to be recognized as one of the most timeless, revered and active bands in the world whose spot amongst rock titans remains unshakable. The enduring, globally revered group has showcased its virtuosity, intelligence, and breadth over the course of 16 studio and live albums. Listen and stream Warren Haynes music HERE. The Les Paul Standard 50’s has a solid mahogany body with a maple top, a rounded 50’s-style mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard and trapezoid inlays. It’s equipped with an ABR-1, the classic-style Tune-O-Matic bridge, aluminum stop bar tailpiece, vintage deluxe tuners with keystone buttons, and aged gold tophat knobs. The calibrated Burstbucker 1 (neck) and Burstbucker 2 (bridge) pickups are loaded with AlNiCo II magnets, audio taper potentiometers and orange drop capacitors.

EJI provides research and recommendations to assist advocates and policymakers in the critically important work of criminal justice reform. We publish reports, discussion guides, and other educational materials, and our staff conducts educational tours and presentations for thousands of students, teachers, faith leaders, professional associations, community groups, and international visitors every year.

Stunning graphics, anime references, super-saturated composition, and TikTok-ready movements team enthrallingly with the sound to produce an unforgettable video. This is all to-be-expected from Doja Cat, who so consistently delivers undeniable talent and energy in her artistry and performance. Gucci Mane brings his own experience and poetry to the table, proving a well-worthy accompaniment.

Born and raised in L.A., Doja Cat made her first upload to Soundcloud in 2013 at just 16-years-old. She developed a knack for music by studying piano and dance as a kid and listening to the likes of Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and more. Soon, she went from obsessing over Catwoman (the Halle Berry version) to “crate digging” on YouTube. The budding talent taught herself Logic and how to compose on a midi controller.

Signed to Kemosabe/RCA during 2014, she has released her Purrr! EP and followed with her debut album Amala in spring 2018, but it was her August 2018 release of “Mooo!” which catapulted her into the mainstream and was met with critical acclaim. With co-signs from Chance The Rapper, Katy Perry, Chris Brown and J.Cole among others.

2019 was a big year for Doja, proving she is a mainstay artist with the release of tracks like “Tia Tamera” ft. Rico Nasty and her breakout hit “Juicy” ft. Tyga which appears on her sophomore album Hot Pink, released in November. She made her late night debut performance of the track on Late Night with Seth Meyers. She was also named the iHeart Radio “On The Verge” artist, with “Juicy” reaching #1 on the Rhythm radio chart and top 10 at Urban. Hot Pink has received rave reviews in the press and continues to be recognized as her strongest work to date with over 750 million streams and video views combined.

Live, Doja has played numerous festivals and live shows including Rap Caviar Live Miami, Posty Fest, Day n Vegas, Rolling Loud LA and will play Coachella, Rolling Loud Miami, Broccoli City Fest later this year.

2020 kicked off another amazing year for the hybrid artist with the success of her single “Say So” continuing to climb the charts. She’s delivered electrifying performances of the track on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Voice and The Late Late Show with James Corden. The track is RIAA certified platinum, reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, #1 at Top 40 radio for 5 consecutive weeks, reached #1 at Rhythm radio, has over 180 million video views, and over 20 million Tik Tok videos created. The track has been streamed nearly 1 billion times worldwide.

Noah Cyrus × Ant Clemons

Noah Cyrus and Ant Clemons drop visualizer for “Wonder Years” following the release of “The End of Everything” EP

Following the release of her acclaimed EP “The End Of Everything” in May, multi-platinum artist Noah Cyrus releases another visual for her Ant Clemons collaboration for “Wonder Years.”

“We were working together one night and he pulled up this melody he’d been working on that was an interpolation of ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ by The Beatles and I was like ‘WOAH, shit.’” Noah reveals. “I went in the booth and hummed some melodies of my own, and then we just worked on the lyrics, production, structure, etc. It’s funny because I don’t think we ever knew how this song would even come out. Like, who gets a Beatles record cleared? Us I guess.”

PFCD × Antimicrobial Resistance

The Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) today announced a new initiative to advance awareness on the growing problem of antimicrobial resistance (AMR, aka “superbugs”) and to drive action for policy changes to address the threat AMR poses to our health.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 2.8 million drug-resistant infections occur in the U.S. each year and more than 35,000 people die as a result. The COVID-19 crisis has increased public awareness on the importance of having the right treatments available to treat public health crises as they arise. The threat of AMR looms large as an existing and growing public health need.

In addition to educating and drawing attention to AMR as a pressing public health issue, the Partnership to Fight Infectious Disease (PFID) will:

* Advocate for policy changes to encourage research and development of new treatments and therapies for infectious diseases, * Motivate broad change in the way antimicrobial treatments (e.g. antibiotics, antifungals) are developed, distributed, and consumed, and * Reinforce awareness about the value of antimicrobial treatments, the impact to the practice of modern medicine, and the threat to individual health.

“The launch of PFID is an extension of PFCD’s work for over a decade to advance a vision for a healthier future. The significant impact of the current COVID-19 pandemic on the millions of Americans living with one or more chronic conditions is a long-overdue wake-up call that demands an answer,” stated PFCD Chairman Ken Thorpe. “PFCD stands committed to our goals of addressing the burden of chronic disease, motivating calls for change, and challenging policymakers to create sustainable progress for both chronic and infectious disease threats that exact a heavy human and economic toll in America.”

According to a recent national poll of 1,000 likely voters, there is considerable urgency around and support of policy changes on issues related to AMR.

“The level of concern voters have about antimicrobial resistance is intense and remarkably consistent across the country,” said Celinda Lake, President of Lake Research Partners. “They want this issue to be a high priority for policymakers.”

When presented with some background on AMR, 85 percent of respondents said they were very or somewhat concerned about the issue and 76 percent believe that the development of new antibiotics should be a top or high priority.

More than 50 percent of respondents strongly agree that the government, universities, and drug companies need to all work together to deal with antimicrobial resistance. The strongest predictor of concern for this issue is if a voter has been impacted by COVID-19.

Fifty-nine percent of those who have been seriously impacted by COVID-19 are much more likely to say they are very concerned about AMR, and are also more likely to feel the development of new antibiotics should be a top or high priority (87%) compared to those who haven’t been seriously impacted (64%).

Levels of concern were notably higher among people of color and older Americans, those most impacted by the current pandemic. Further, supporting a candidate who makes the development of new antibiotics a priority was a likelihood for many, and a strong majority believe investment in antibiotics is too low.

“Everyone needs antibiotics to work, whether you are living with chronic disease, are having a routine surgery or undergoing cancer treatment or dialysis. Antibiotics are the safety net of modern medicine, and every procedure becomes more dangerous if we lose them,” said Kevin Outterson, Executive Director of CARB-X, a global non-profit partnership that funds the early development of new antibiotics, vaccines, and rapid diagnostics urgently need to treat superbugs. “There are solutions. We need to invest in new antibiotics to address drug-resistant pathogens.”

While the causes for the existing shortfall are many, the PFID initiative will prioritize prevention and translate knowledge into action by stakeholders across the health care continuum – patients, providers, employers, policymakers, payers, pharmaceutical companies, and many others. In doing so, the end goal is to cultivate collaboration among both public and private stakeholders to expand education and awareness of the issues and related impact areas, and to encourage and support innovation and development of quality treatments and therapies that can address the health threats of today and protect patients at large into the future.

“Without effective antibiotics many of the advances of modern medicine are in jeopardy. We must curtail the overuse and misuse of antibiotics that is driving the development of resistance and invest in new antibiotics that can treat superbugs. IDSA welcomes the PFID partnership to help drive the policy changes we need,” stated Amanda Jezek, Senior Vice President, Public Policy and Government Relations, Infectious Diseases Society of America.

For more information about the PFID and efforts to address AMR throughout the U.S. and across the globe, click HERE.

The Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) is an international coalition of hundreds of patient, provider, community, business, and labor groups, and health policy experts, committed to raising awareness of the number one cause of death, disability and rising health care costs: chronic disease.

All Time Low × Wine That Rocks

All Time Low launches new “Summer Daze Rosé” in partnership with Wines That Rock in honor of their new album, Wake Up, Sunshine

Platinum-selling band All Time Low have unveiled Summer Daze Rosé, their third wine release in partnership with Wines That Rock. Summer Daze Rosé will be available beginning June 30th exclusively from All Time Low’s Everything Is Wine webstore here. Sharing its name with “Summer Daze (Seasons, Pt. 2)” from the group’s latest chart-topping album, Wake Up, Sunshine.

The rosé stands out as a fresh and crisp wine accented by zinfandel grapes with a bright floral nose, notes of fresh strawberries, and melon complete with a light acidic finish. This harmonious (and loud) marriage of flavors leaves a lasting taste of cotton candy, cherry, and a faint citrus finish meant to be enjoyed chilled as the ultimate summer refreshment.

Singer Alex Gaskarth commented, “All roads lead to this: a foray into the endless summer, celebrated here in a refreshing rosé that we’ve been contemplating and anticipating since we first ventured into the wine space. We’re very excited about this one!”

All Time Low continue to make waves in the beverage category, adding another dimension to their connection with audiences. Last June, they initially joined forces with Wines That Rock and E2 Winery for a limited-edition Cabernet Sauvignon Everything Is Wine, a nod to their song “Everything Is Fine.” It sold out within an hour, leading to a waitlist of 4000-plus fans. Wine Spectator enthused, “We can get behind the sentiment.” On Black Friday 2019, the band unveiled a holiday two-pack, including both the re-release of the sold out Cabernet Sauvignon and a new Sauvignon Blanc. Additionally, All Time Low collaborated with RISE Brewing Co. for their very own Wake Up, Sunshine Nitro Cold Brew around the launch of their latest record.

About All Time Low

Throughout a catalog streamed nearly half-a-billion times and highlighted by two gold albums, two gold singles, and a platinum single, All Time Low have continually raised the bar for both pop and punk. Since 2003, the group has notched five straight Top 10 entries on the Billboard Top 200, spanning the gold-certified Nothing Personal [2009], Dirty Work [2011], Future Hearts [2015], and Last Young Renegade [2017]. The latter attracted tastemaker acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, Paste, and more as the band canvased the world, headlining arenas on three continents. 2019 saw All Time Low celebrate Nothing Personal with a string of sold-out anniversary shows and a documentary following the band as they revisited the album at RedBull Studios. The record’s influence remains prevalent with Rock Sound citing its impact on Fall Out Boy, 5 Seconds of Summer, and more. After nearly two decades together, All Time Low have rekindled the spark they first ignited in a Baltimore basement on their 2020 full-length studio album, Wake Up, Sunshine. These four lifelong friends walked into a tiny room, plugged in, and turned up with the same spirit, but with more experience, and proficiency gained from performing to millions worldwide. As a result, they‘ve delivered Wake Up, Sunshine, a captivating body of work at the apex of pop punk prowess.

Foy Vance – Thank You For Asking

FOY VANCE RELEASES NEW SINGLE AND MUSIC VIDEO “THANK YOU FOR ASKING” LISTEN HERE / WATCH THE VIDEO HERE

Northern Irish singer/songwriter Foy Vance has released his brand new single “Thank You For Asking”. The track is available to stream and download starting today HERE via Ed Sheeran’s Gingerbread Man Records/Elektra Records. Vance has also shared an accompanying music video for the song, which premiered earlier today on Taste of Country. Watch it HERE.

Vance initially wrote and demoed “Thank You For Asking” for his Americana album To Memphis, which was released last September. After a long day of recording at Memphis’s legendary Sun Studios, Vance and creative partner Gregg Houston of Babysweet Productions filmed an impromptu video for the track on the city’s streets with Foy dressed as a character he calls “Gordon Zolah”. “Thank You For Asking” was then put on the shelf for a year, with Vance recently finishing the track in London.

“‘Thank You For Asking’ didn’t work on To Memphis, but I always loved the song and now feels like an appropriate time to put it out,” says Vance. “My fans will know that I believe in the ‘joy of nothing’, and I hope that the light-hearted nature of the track and video can bring them a little joy. Gordon Zolah had a lot of fun wandering around the iconic streets of Memphis and I think that shows.” Last year Foy Vance released two companion albums, From Muscle Shoals and To Memphis, which pay homage to the Soul and Americana traditions that influence his songwriting.

Following the release of the albums, Vance embarked on a headline world tour. Vance’s 2016 studio album The Wild Swan was executively produced by Elton John, who Vance supported on his Wonderful Crazy Tour that year. The critically acclaimed album contained the BBC Radio 2 playlisted singles “Coco”, “Upbeat Feelgood”, and “Noam Chomsky Is A Soft Revolution”, and saw Vance perform on NBC’s Today and CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden. The Wild Swan was nominated for the 2016 Northern Ireland Music Prize, which Vance won with his 2013 album Joy Of Nothing. Foy Vance is currently working on new material.
