Western River Explorations Supports 2020 Traveling

Where in the world – and how – will families vacation this summer?

Given months of pandemic-driven lock-down orders, stay-at-home summer vacation won’t be high on many lists. What will be attractive will be vacations that embrace fresh air and the healing powers of nature that can work wonders on family spirits and recovery.

For nearly 60 years, Western River Expeditions has operated top-quality river rafting vacations for individuals, families, and friends. This year they are also applying their decades of professionalism to pandemic-related challenges. Here are some of the many steps this company is taking to counter COVID-19 fears.

  • Screening Employees: Every day before work, each employee must pass both a temperature and pulse oximeter screen, and then answer a detailed questionnaire.
  • Screening Guests at Check-in: Guests exhibiting temperatures of 100.4 or higher will not be allowed to travel with Western River Expeditions at the time they planned; instead, they will receive an “Adventure Credit” which allows the guest and any members of the group who were currently living at the same physical address during any of the 7 days prior to the trip to use the full paid value of their trip as a credit for a future trip at a later date.
  • Screening while on Multi-Day Trips: All trip participants and guides will have a daily temperature and pulse oximeter checks and fill out a daily review of symptoms questionnaire.

In addition, there are new protocols in place should someone experience COVID-19 symptoms during a trip. In such a case, steps will be taken to protect other guests from exposure during the remainder of that trip. There also will be protocols for toilet facilities, hand washing stations, and social distancing (when feasible) as well as reduced number of guests per raft.

The company will also implement specific guidelines that address everything from life-jacket use and sanitation to meal prep and service, use of shuttle vans, number of people per shuttle vehicle, sanitation of rafts, dry bags, cots, sleeping bags, and all associated equipment. For more details on Western River Expeditions’ specific protocols please see https://www.westernriver.com/covid-19.

Western River Expeditions hopes to still operate late spring and summer 2020 trips, subject to the easing of government-mandated closures. Three suggested trips ideal for families are:

  • Desolation Canyon, a five-day trip through breathtaking Desolation Canyon and Gray Canyon on the Green River in central Utah. Trips are scheduled to depart June 7 through Aug. 12 with a minimum age of five years old. For details see https://www.westernriver.com/desolation-canyon
  • Southwest Sampler, a four-day adventure that includes an off-road Hummer Safari, Arches National Park tour, and overnight rafting trip as well as a stay at Moab’s Marriott SpringHill Suites. Departures are scheduled May 26 through Aug. 26. If National Park closures affect the operation of the Arches National Park tour, guests will explore another stunning location in Moab. For details see  https://www.westernriver.com/moab-utah-vacation-sampler
  • Grand Canyon, the three-day option still has some limited space on certain dates from June 21st through September. Sarah Silva New Track

Sarah Silva is set to drop the next single “Somebody Like Me,” from her upcoming album which is set for release in September 2020, via Black Rabbit Entertainment.

“’Somebody Like Me’ about knowing that you are exactly what a certain someone needs. Their past experiences didn’t work out, but now they don’t need to look anymore because you’re here for them,” comments Sarah. “It’s also about feeling empowered with yourself, feeling so confident that you know you can do anything.”

Pre-save “Somebody Like Me” here

A perfect follow-up to Sarah’s “False Illusions,” which was released in November, “Somebody Like Me,” pairs catchy pop lyrics with her sassy Latin vibe.

A household name in South and Central America, the bilingual singer has teamed up with producer, A-dubb (Anthony West), on an upcoming album. Inspired by artists like Rosalía with hints of Becky G, Sarah is ready to make a splash in the U.S. with her own unique brand of Latin pop music.

MORE ABOUT SARAH SILVA:
Sarah’s journey truly began after taking 2nd place in the Mexican version of America Idol, La Academia Kids, at only 11 years old. The experience immersed her in six months of extensive training in singing, dancing and acting with some of the best teachers in the industry. After her participation in La Academia Kids she was casted as the namesake character in the theater play Miranda y Sus Dos Papas, where she was critically recognized for her enormous talent as a musical theater actress.

Sarah’s love of music is extensive and eclectic. She has been given the opportunity to perform a wide variety of songs from regional Mexican to R&B. In 2017, Sarah joined a social media incubator, Dosogas Team, through which she watched her socials skyrocket from tens of thousands to more than 800k in under a year. Known as the singer of the group, the incubator works to expose the young beauty to their millions of fans worldwide. She went on a world tour performing in top venues in Argentina, Paraguay, Mexico, Chile, and many others in Latin America.

She uses her music as part of her anti-bullying campaign that emphasizes the acceptance of all races, gender, sexual orientations, and other social constructs that divide teens. Sarah is currently a student at The Colburn School of the performing arts in Los Angeles, California.

World Goes Round New Song

Los Angeles, CA (April 20, 2020)–WORLD GOES ROUND, a supergroup which formed in the late 80s but whose recordings were never released — featuring four hot songwriters, singers, and musicians  Frank Musker, Elizabeth Lamers, Jeff Hull and Marty Walsh, who wrote and recorded with everyone from Queen to Linda Ronstadt, Chaka Kahn, Sheena Easton, Quincy Jones, Kenny Rogers, John Denver, Supertramp, John Fogerty, Donna Summer, Neil Diamond, Jeffrey Osborne, Air Supply, and many more — will be releasing a never-before-heard track titled “Big House” on Viper Records on May 29“Big House” is the lead single with forthcoming additional music to be released this year from WORLD GOES ROUND.  Check out the music video for the song – HERE.

The four members of WORLD GOES ROUND decided to get together in 1989 and record an album produced by Tommy Vicari (Prince, Billy Idol), which ended up never seeing the light of day.  For one reason or another, both personal and contractual, the recorded WORLD GOES ROUND tracks have languished unheard for more than 30 years.

Like so much of the legendary music created in the 70’s in Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles, California, WORLD GOES ROUND’s 10 track album was recorded at Musker’s home studio in the canyon (with a 150 foot California redwood growing out of the middle of it).  In this idyllic, pressure-free setting, the group came up with powerful pop tunes, which matched their creative and musical aspirations – to make a record that was musically inspired by their heroes;  while being quirky, forthright and relevant.

Says Walsh, “About a year ago, the producer of World Goes Round, Tommy Vicari, asked me if I had a copy of the project. I dug out a cassette tape of the mixes, put it into my audio player, and recorded it into my studio workstation. As soon as I heard the first song, it was apparent that this project really was something special, even though it never saw the light of day.  I sent the project to Tommy and followed shortly by sending it to the rest of the members of WGR, who I had been out of touch with for many years.  Everybody was quite floored by the music we had not heard in decades, and a conversation ensued about the possibility of somehow releasing this music. Enter Viper Records.”

Many of the songs on the album dealt with social injustice happening back in the 90’s, and now the group realizes that the messages of their songs are still valid, and perhaps apply more so now than ever. Their lyrical themes still apply to today’s issues, yet the music captures the spirit of that momentous time.  The prescient ecological anthem “Big House” was brought to life with a contemporary video by Musker’s former songwriting partner Dominic King (of Dominic Bugatti & Frank Musker).

Says Musker, who co-wrote “Big House” with Hull and Walsh, “I don’t have a specific memory of writing the song with Jeff and Marty, but I do think it was essentially concept/lyric driven initially.  I had visited the Amazon about four times in Peru, Brazil and Venezuela, and was amazed by its pristine beauty, the sheer size of everything and the animal life. When I read that an area of forest equivalent to a thousand football fields was being destroyed at some impossibly rapid rate, I was in despair, and needed to express it in some meaningful way – hence the line ‘In the time it takes to sing this song, Another thousand acres will be gone.’”

He adds, “It was also a couple of years before the Berlin Wall came down and I had become increasingly aware of the rumblings in the news of refugees fleeing from behind the Iron Curtain and the dangers they faced. They all want the good life we enjoy in the west – and who could blame them?  So all these environmental and social things were going on in my head at the time, but when I spoke about them to people in California and the UK, they seemed completely oblivious. Actually, I remember they thought I was a bit nuts, and it was clear they felt quite uncomfortable talking about it. It was all so far away. Why is it our problem?  So I got the idea of a bunch of ridiculously hedonistic people living it up in a big mansion up on a hill while down below the world was burning and choking on filthy polluted air. Nero fiddling while Rome burns.  As the lyric goes, ‘So we do the dance – take it for granted, you tell the truth – they don’t understand it.’”

Adds Walsh, “It is quite amazing and gratifying that this work we did back then, and put our heart and souls into, is being released. We are finally letting the world in on World Goes Round!”

Disclosure New Album

Disclosure announced the August 28 release of their new album, ENERGY, via Capitol Records. Disclosure, comprising brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence, also shared the title track and accompanying video. The clip is their first official video in five years. “ENERGY” pits a raucous rhythm from an album of Brazilian library music against cut-up samples of Eric Thomas, the hip hop preacher whose words memorably appeared on 2013’s “When a Fire Starts to Burn.” Thomas gives the whole album a kind of manifesto: “Look! Where your focus goes, your energy flows. Are you hearing me?” The Kid Studio-directed video, which received a YouTube premiere, gives props to the underdog. The undeniably feel-good visual counteracts these somber times – and perhaps even serves as an illustration of uncanny foresight into the predicted post-lockdown baby boom?

Watch the video HERE and listen to “ENERGY” HERE.

Disclosure explain, “When we found Eric many years ago, he was like a goldmine of inspirational quotes and motivational speeches. Even if he was speaking to a room of five, it was like he was addressing a stadium. He has an immense presence and energy about him that translates so well into music – especially house music. This time, we cut up various speeches to make something that makes sense. What he says is basically the whole concept for the record, that’s why it became the title track.” In addition to Thomas, a global spectrum of talented artists grace the album – and, for the first time, this includes rappers. Appearances from Mick Jenkins, ChannelTres, Aminé and slowthai sit comfortably alongside the legend that is Common. Other features include the inimitable Kelis, who opens the album, and Fatoumata Diawara, who the boys have also linked up with previously. Cameroon’s Blick Bassy brings his own flow to the table while a powerhouse team of Kehlani and Syd ease the pace with their contribution. See below for track listing. Through an epic process of creation and distillation, the path to producing their shortest, most direct album – 11 songs, 39 minutes – ran through around 200 tracks: everything from drum loops to fully-realized songs. The title ENERGY dictated their choices. The brothers recall, “The thing that decided which songs made it and which songs didn’t was that one word: energy. Every track was written really quickly. That’s why we had to write so many songs because those ones don’t come up every day. Or every week. Or every month.” Since live touring has been paused during the global pandemic and their own plans for 2020 put on hold, Guy (and sadly not Howard as they isolated in different countries) found an outlet for his desire to give people a good time no matter what the circumstances by doing a regular run of their popular Kitchen Mix parties via live stream, a set for Boiler Room and a one-off special to celebrate Earth Day. Fans who pre-order the album digitally will instantly receive the title track. ENERGY will also be available on vinyl, CD and cassette. Pre-order HERE. Disclosure have worked diligently to produce environmentally responsible products by focusing on a number of recycled and sustainable materials across all formats. These include forgoing plastic hard-cases for both the CD and cassette formats, utilizing vegetable and water-based inks and varnishes and opting for a mixture of recycled and FSC-approved cardboard, which extends to two of the three vinyl options. For the third vinyl option, ENERGY will be available on Superecovinyl format, which uses re-granulated PVC pellets to press the vinyl (with no loss of audio quality), a fully 100% recycled Bargesse board derived from sugarcane for the sleeve and shrink-wrapped in a sustainable sugarcane-based plastic. This year marks 10 years since Disclosure debuted with the single “Offline Dexterity.” In that decade, the brothers, who are still in their 20s, have released two albums – Settle (2013) and Caracal (2015) – clocked up 4.5 billion streams and 4.5 million album sales, received five GRAMMY nominations, sold 500,000 tickets to their headline shows and topped festival bills all over the world, something they do with ease while also enjoying playing to packed-out sweaty clubs whenever they can. Both of their full-length albums topped the U.K. Official Albums chart and received GRAMMY nominations for Best Dance/Electronic Album. Settle was named the No.1 dance album of the decade by Billboard. A pair of EPs – Moonlight and Ecstasy – followed. When interviewers first asked Disclosure about their ambitions, they said they wanted longevity. They wanted to be able to move between clubs and festivals, stand-alone floor-fillers and substantial albums, DJing and performing. Ten years on, they’ve achieved their goal. “It’s such a privileged lane that we’ve found ourselves in,” says Guy Lawrence.

“It’s great that we can play to 20,000 people and then go and play a dark, sweaty rave. We just want the most amount of people to have the most amount of enjoyment. We can’t wait to do it again and again when the time comes.” – Guy Lawrence

Mulatto recently released her “Bitch From Da Souf (Remix)” video featuring Saweetie & Trina, which has nearly 8 million views on YouTube and her freestyle track & video “No Hook,” which has 3 million views in less than a month on YouTube. She is currently working on her next project.

360 Magazine, Corey Harper, Overcast

Corey Harper Releases New Track + EP

On May 21st, Corey Harper released his new track, Fade to Black,” available now to listen. In addition, he will release a new EP called Overcast,” available now to pre-save on streaming services.

“Corey Harper Shows Deep Vulnerability [in ‘Entertainment’]” – American Songwriter

“Harper, a professed classic rock and soul disciple, lays down tasteful John Mayer-esque licks over a relaxed backbeat, creating plenty of space for his smoky, understated vocals.” – Billboard

“With the increasing importance in the craft of songwriting, Corey’s rise is coming at the moment when the industry needs more musical geniuses like him.” – Hollywood Life

“Harper continues to win over new ears with his soulful, emotive original music.” – Relix

“Radiating heartache and passion, Corey Harper proves that powerful, catchy pop  can exist without sacrificing integrity and depth.” – Atwood

“While the heroic influences are obvious, the sound remains uniquely Harper’s own” – Artist Direct

Los Angeles, CA – May 21, 2020 – Singer-songwriter Corey Harper continues to show his vulnerability and honest storytelling in his latest track “Fade to Black,” which tackles the subject of addiction. The acoustic melodies and sentimental lyrics capture the heartache felt by many trying to overcome hardships in life. The track is off his upcoming EP Overcast out on June 5, 2020.

“Fade to Black” is about my brother, who has struggled with drug abuse for a decade. I was able to come up with the songs on the EP because I was in my hometown, surrounded by familiarity and memories. It’s like I had a home-court advantage. This music is about confusion and sadness and hope.

It’s about what happens before the storm arrives when you’re trying to find your direction through the fog.”- Corey Harper

Harper first gave fans a taste of the upcoming EP with the single “Entertainment,” which illustrates his guttural delivery and rawness in this pop/rock anthemic track. To listen to “Entertainment” – Press here.

Recorded in a home studio on the outskirts of Oregon wine country, Overcast features Harper playing nearly every instrument himself, co-writing all six songs, and splitting production duties with collaborator Lubben (Halsey, Gnash). Overcast casts the widest net of Harper’s catalog. The result is a record that doesn’t just shine a light on the melodic hooks that earned him a career-launching tour as Justin Bieber’s opening act in 2016, or the elastic vocals and understated guitar heroics that have pushed songs like “On the Run” beyond the 10-million-stream threshold on Spotify. Instead, it shows the full range of his abilities, recasting Corey Harper as a musician’s musician whose meticulous approach to pop music is both personal and invitingly universal. The upcoming EP isn’t just about finding direction, though; it’s about finding a unique sound, too.

Raised on the guitar riffs and timeless songwriting of Fleetwood Mac and Jackson Browne, Harper initially came to L.A. as an Americana folk-rock musician. His 2016 debut saluted those organic influences, while 2019’s Barely Put Together widened his approach. Overcast, which Harper recorded during a pair of trips to Lubben’s studio on the outskirts of Portland, finds him reaching a new peak of adventurousness, rolling his influences into a sound that’s honest, human, and healing. Overcast makes room for a rich tapestry of baritone guitar, Eighties synthesizers, pop melodies, and experimental sounds, including the atmospheric hum of the studio’s pinball machine and the innovative textures of his guitar pedal collection.

Harper even ran his electric guitar through a homemade amp, creating a signature tone that still nods to his favorite players – from John Mayer to Lindsey Buckingham to Phoebe Bridges – without losing its singular character. These six songs are his most personal to date, yet the issues they examine – the strained bonds between loved ones; the mourning of friends who are no longer with us; the desire to live a life that’s honest, meaningful, and real, despite the distractions of modern-day existence – are common. Corey has toured with the likes of Niall Horan, Noah Kahan, Julia Michaels, and has also performed at Bonnaroo, BottleRock, Sasquatch, Ohana Festival and more. Stay tuned for the latest from Corey Harper and for more info, please visit www.coreyharpermusic.com and his YouTube channel.

Electronic music has been a driving force shaping festival culture over the last thirty years, and as the live event world is radically shaken and re-shaped by the Coronavirus, a new Minecraft festival, Electric Blockaloo, is set to define what a festival will look like in 2020.

Electric Blockaloo, produced by Rave Family, will debut on June 25-28 and is a collective effort from some of the biggest names in electronic music. Stage hosts include Diplo’s Higher Ground, A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold, Claude VonStroke’s DIRTYBIRD Records, ZHU PRESENTS: BLACKLIZT, and Claptone’s Masquerade, along with label collectives including Desert Hearts as well as Circus Records and Lost Resort Presents: TOKiMONSTA’s Young Art Records. The underground roots of dance music are also well represented with Jamie Jones’ Paradise, bedouin Presents: Saga, Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream, and Soul Clap’s House of E-Funk.

Attendees, affectionately called “Loozers”, will be able to explore incredible venues that include a recreation of Dunder Mifflin’s office space, Red Blocks, a nod to the famed amphitheater, a Dirtybird Campout complete with camp games, a replica of the famed Pacific North West venue The Gorge and many more. Loozers will be able to explore, play games, discover prizes and hidden easter eggs, and dance together, all
while enjoying exclusive sets from world-renowned DJs.

To attend Electric Blockaloo, fans need to get on an artist’s guest list via a link that artists will share. With this special code, they’ll be able to get into the Rave Family club. Once they’re in, they simply pay the cover (GA or VIP) and get all-access to artist-curated Minecraft servers, Discord channels, exclusive streams, and special releases!

Electric Blockaloo will be available on both java and Bedrock version of Minecraft, so fans can play on desktop or mobile. For festival fam
not familiar with Minecraft, the Rave Family Training Camp will be available to ticket holders in the run up to the festival. Here, users
can learn to navigate, swim, shop and socialize in Minecraft.

Electric Blockaloo is produced by Rave Family, a production company founded by tech and investment veteran, Jackie McGuire. CEO of the
first all-female team to win the TechCrunch Hackathon (2018), she left a successful career in investments and venture capital to pursue her love of technology, music, and festivals. The company has also worked with festivals including EDC, Electric Forest, Imagine, Ever After and many more to provide infrastructure and entertainment support. To help tackle her ambitious technology goals, McGuire recently recruited Colin Haas, formerly a developer at Apple and GetAround, who will serve as Head of Strategic Engineering and Development.

“Everyone asked us, ‘What’s the new normal?’” said founder Jackie McGuire, “and that normal is one without large festivals for the foreseeable future. Electric Blockaloo is a place where artists and fans can come together, create shared musical experiences, and reconnect with each other in an immersive way. It’s also much more environmentally friendly than traditional festivals, and a portion of each ticket will help support Bye Bye Plastic, an amazing organization that aims to eliminate single-use plastic from music festivals by
2025.”

Electric Blockaloo is the first in a series of Minecraft focused electronic music events that Rave Family will produce, forthcoming events include Mad Decent, 100 Gecs and more.
