POLARIS SLINGSHOT SUPERHERO RIDE

POLARIS SLINGSHOT TO CELEBRATE AND RECOGNIZE TODAY’S UNSUNG HEROES WITH A SUPERHERO RIDE

Because Every Superhero Deserves a Superhero Ride

Polaris Slingshot In Search of Stories About Those Going Above & Beyond In Everyday Life;

Four Heroes will Win a Three-Month Rental of an All-New 2020 Slingshot Roadster

In a time of unprecedented events, millions of Americans are going above and beyond; whether it’s a battle through new adversity in daily life or helping someone in need. In an effort to shine a light and celebrate these individuals, Polaris Slingshot is asking its community to share stories about the superheroes in their lives.

Whether a medical professional, a first responder, grocery worker, an educator learning to teach from a far, a seamstress supporting a local medical facility, a young adult delivering food to the community, or a stay-at-home mom turned school teacher – Slingshot wants to hear these stories and say “thank you.” From now until June 3, Slingshot will be celebrating and acknowledging these local heroes on its social media channels. And to show appreciation, the company is awarding four of the submitted heroes a free three-month rental of an all-new 2020 Slingshot roadster.

“During these unprecedented times, Americans have had to adapt and stretch to unimaginable lengths,” said Chris Sergeant, Vice President of Polaris Slingshot. “Everyday tasks are more challenging. Jobs are significantly more demanding. These are the individuals we want to show our gratitude for, share their story and, in some cases, reward them with a free three-month Slingshot rental. Because every superhero deserves a superhero ride.”

To submit, anyone can post to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #SlingshotSuperhero. In the post, submitters should explain the hero’s story and how they are battling through adversity, lending support, or committed to their trade during these trying times. Slingshot will highlight a number of submissions throughout the program, while one winning submission will be awarded every two weeks until early June. Consumers can also register online at: http://slingshot.polaris.com/en-us/nominate-a-superhero/. Prize fulfillment will come at a time when the winner can get out and fully enjoy all the fun Slingshot has to offer.

The Covid-19 Effect on Cryptocurrency

Delta.App CEO: Investors Going Back into Crypto as a Hedge Against Depreciating Dollar

In a recent interview with InsideBitcoins.com Delta.App Chief Executive Officer Nicolas Van Hoorde revealed that investors were going back to digital assets as a hedge against the depreciating dollar. According to Hoorde, this is a reaction towards the current market uncertainty.

All sectors facing volatility.

During the interview, the chief executive officer noted that there is extreme market volatility across all sectors. According to Hoorde:
“However, we are seeing some investors on eToro going back into crypto as a hedge against a depreciating dollar, caused by the unlimited quantitative easing measures the US Fed announced a couple of weeks ago.”

Ahead of the upcoming Bitcoin halving event, the chief executive noted even with the halving process, Bitcoin and the crypto sector remains volatile. Hoorde affirmed that with maturity concerning regulations and increased adoption rate it will be much easier for people to understand the crypto sector.

On Facebook’s Libra project, Hoorde stated that he was confident the social networking giant would enter the cryptocurrency space but after meeting all regulatory requirements.

Hoorde also commented on institutional investors joining the crypto sector. He asserted that institutional investors are increasingly taking part in the digital asset sector based on the fact that the ‘wild west’ period for the crypto market seems to be over. Already central banks are carrying out studies on how the full blockchain potential can be unlocked.

Parenting Kids During Covid-19

12 TIPS FOR PARENTING YOUNG KIDS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

After the overwhelming response to our recent newsletter about at-home learning amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Children and Screens has teamed up with some of the top experts in the fields of parenting, education, and child psychology to bring you a new series of helpful hints and common-sense suggestions for navigating the uncertain days and weeks ahead. Raising young kids can be tricky, even under the best of circumstances, but as our experts share here, adaptability, patience, and understanding are the keys to ensuring healthy growth and relationship building during this crucial time in your child’s development.

Check out these 12 tips for parents of young children below, and be sure to tune in to the first installment of our upcoming interactive webinar series on April 27, when our panel of experts will chat about healthy screen habits for kids ages 5 and under and answer your questions via Zoom. RSVP here.

DON’T FEEL GUILTY
We know you’re stretched thin and doing your best to manage a whole host of issues, so please don’t feel guilty if your kids are engaging in more screen time than you’d typically allow. There are so many wonderful educational resources out there, even for very young children, and we recommend making the most of them (and getting other family members involved where possible). The use of video chat on a regular basis is also highly recommended to maintain social ties with friends and family members. – Dr. Sarah M. Coyne, PhD, Professor Associate Director, School of Family Life Brigham Young University

ROLE WITH IT
Both you and your children will need time to adjust to your new roles. In one fell swoop, you’ve become a stay-at-home parent, a teacher, and a frontline responder (aka superhero). Be patient with this transition. It may be rocky at first, but children are adaptable and will thrive with well-intentioned efforts. – Kara Bagot, MD, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Department of Psychiatry

REACH OUT AND TOUCH SOMEONE
With social distancing in full effect, it’s impossible for toddlers to get the kind of in-person attention they’d normally receive from friends and family. In order to maintain those tactile connections, it can be helpful to serve as the “hands and heart” for your loved ones while video chatting. For instance, if Grandpa motions to “tickle” your baby’s tummy, give your child’s tummy a tickle. If Grandma leans toward the screen for a kiss, give your toddler a kiss on the cheek. By taking on this role, you can help nurture the relationship between the child and their loved ones on screen. – Rachel Barr, Georgetown University; Rebecca Palarkain, ZeroToThree; Elisabeth McClure, Lego Foundation

GAME ON
When video chatting with young children, try rhymes, songs, dancing, finger plays, and games like peek-a-boo and hide-and-seek. The more toddlers can participate in screen time, the more they’ll get out of it. – Rachel Barr, Georgetown University; Rebecca Palarkain, ZeroToThree; Elisabeth McClure, Lego Foundation

TALK TALK TALK
Be a part of your young child’s screen time. Sitting with them, holding them, and, most importantly, talking to them are all important ways to help children learn and feel safe. Make a game out of describing what different characters on the screen are doing. Point and label the objects and people that appear in the videos you watch. Sharing screen time can be an excellent opportunity to talk with and engage your toddler. – Ellen Wartella, Director of the Center on Media and Human Development, Northwestern University

ONE MORE TIME!
It’s OK if your child wants to watch the same show or series over and over again. Children learn more with each repetition of a book or a song, and the same goes for screen media. The more children watch the same show or play the same game, the more they understand the storyline and educational content. – Alexis R. Lauricella, Associate Professor and Director of the Technology in Early Childhood (TEC) Center, Erikson Institute

PAJAMA DAY (ONLY 1X/WEEK)
In anxious times, kids benefit from predictability and daily structure. As best as you can, maintain a basic schedule for things like meals, self-care, schoolwork, and screen time. Invite them to help you make and decorate a weekly schedule, and be sure to include some fun ideas for joint parent/kid break times. – Meredith Gansner, MD, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Cambridge Health Alliance

READY, SET, PLAY!
It’s a good time for all of us, kids and adults to like, to PLAY. Put on music and dance! Work on a puzzle, break out a board game! Grab those Legos and build a castle! Don’t forget how to have fun with your little ones. – Elizabeth K. Englander, PhD Director, Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center, Bridgewater State University

ONE SIZE DOESN’T FIT ALL
Understand that there are developmental differences between children of different ages. Homeschooling a kindergartener will be very different than homeschooling a seventh grader. While younger children may need you to keep a closer eye on them, older and more independent kids can set goals and check in with you on their progress. – Colleen Kraft, MD

STAY CONNECTED
Physical objects and activities can help bridge the gaps presented by social distancing. When video chatting, encourage your child’s screen partner to read a favorite book while the child follows along with his or her own copy. Invite the video partner to play with a toy car while your child rolls around in their own. Puppets and stuffed animals are great props for playing together virtually, and sharing a snack together is always a favorite for young children. Joint activities will help your kids stay connected with their on-screen partners. – Rachel Barr, Georgetown University; Rebecca Palarkain, ZeroToThree; Elisabeth McClure, Lego Foundation

THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE INTERACTIVE
Screen time isn’t inherently good or bad; what matters is how we choose to use it. Screens can take us to the zoo, guide us through the great museums of the world, and keep us fit with healthy movement games. Make the most of the current situation by finding active, engaging, meaningful, fun, and socially interactive choices to invest in. – Kathy Hirsh-Pasek, Ph.D Temple University, senior fellow Brookings Institution; author Becoming Brilliant

BORED IN THE USA
Not only is it OK to be bored, it’s beneficial! These days, we’re all so constantly bombarded with stimulation and entertainment that we’re left with little time to explore our own thoughts and dreams. Let’s use this time to develop that important skill, and to appreciate the healthy power of boredom. – Kathy Hirsh-Pasek, Ph.D Temple University, senior fellow Brookings Institution; author Becoming Brilliant

At the end of the day, nothing is more important than making sure your child feels safe, nourished, and loved. It won’t always be easy, but we hope parents can incorporate these 12 tips, along with a little extra kindness and creativity, as they adjust to their new roles and make the most out of the unexpected.

Lila Iké – I Spy

One of Jamaica’s fastest rising stars Lila Iké storms into 2020 with “I Spy,” her first single and video this year. Watch/Listen to “I Spy” HEREOn the heels of her freshly-inked signing to RCA Records—in conjunction with In.Digg.Nation Collective and Six Course Records —“I Spy” is Lila Iké’s inaugural single through the major label and serves as a prelude to her debut 7-track EP The ExPerience, which will be released May 15.

The making of “I Spy” was an organic process which is akin to how Lila naturally creates. IzyBeats, who earned a GRAMMY award for his contribution to Koffee’s “Toast,” is at the helm of the song. “When Izy played the beat in the studio I just heard this ‘chek, chek’ and then this specific drum pattern that is familiar in Jamaican culture, so I started pacing the room and singing the chorus ‘I Spy, I Spy.’ Izy was like ‘Oh my god, that is it!’ I felt his energy, so it pushed me to go further and it blossomed into what it is today. I am really excited how it turned out and confident it will open new markets for me. It is going to be beautiful.”

The accompanying video is directed by Danny Williams and was filmed in Kingston, Jamaica with cameos from her crew including labelmate Sevana, Jaz Elise and Naomi Cowan.

Also joining Lila Iké on her anticipated EP The ExPerience is a cast of Jamaica’s most in-demand producers. Phillip “Winta” James, known for his work with Protoje, Nas & Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley and Mortimer, produced “Forget Me” and “Stars Align.”  A trio of the island’s most promising young beatmakers, Ziah x JLL x Iotosh, are responsible for “Solitude.” Behind the boards is also GRAMMY-nominated artist Protoje, who executive produced The ExPerience, and is credited for crafting the sound of “Thy Will,” which is influenced by Sly and Robbie’s “More Baltimore.”

In 2019, the multi-talented Lila Iké ascended through a string of songs that fused contemporary reggae with elements of soul, hip-hop, and dancehall. “Where I’m Coming From” (produced by Kasadie “Caspa” Jones) and “Second Chance” (produced by Alfred Simpson) were two pivotal songs that put the songstress on the map. Both tracks will be featured on her upcoming EP. With only a handful of singles under her belt, she has earned critical acclaim fromComplex, BBC 1xtra, NYLON, Flaunt, Essence, The FADER and Refinery29 as an artist to watch. While on tour with Protoje, she left a lasting impression on audiences at Reggae Sumfest (Montego Bay, Jamaica), and BRIC’s Celebrate Brooklyn! (NYC, USA), plus she commanded the spotlight on Europe’s most-coveted reggae stages, including her own primetime slot at the genre’s largest worldwide festival Rototom Sunsplash (Benicassim, Spain).

The spotlight shines brighter on Lila Iké as she pivots from Jamaica’s independent singing sensation to global superstardom guided by her natural talents, co-signed by In.Digg.Nation Collective, Six Course Records and RCA Records. Lila Iké’s endearing tone can be felt in every word she sings, displaying equal amounts of vulnerability and dominance in her signature vibrato. While her early hits are foundational elements of her debut, The ExPerience is lush with a wave of new anthems that tread through the thick, potent smoke of introspection and intimacy. “Solitude” relishes silence and peace-of-mind in a sea of a wobbling bass and whisks of guitar and violin. On “Stars Align,” Lila Iké creatively juggles relationships as a metaphor for music-making while spraying her lyrics like a fresh coat of paint on Winta James’ “Bout Noon” beat, originally sung by Protoje.

“It is an experience of me, showing my versatility and the different tones, values and vibes of a woman,” Lila says about her debut EP. “This is a mixture of songs influenced by reggae, but it does not define the sound. It has trap dancehall on “Where I’m Coming From” and soulful vibes on “Forget Me.” It gets sweet and jazzy on “Stars Align” and “I Spy” has this reggaeton and pop feel. It is a beautiful time for this kind of music to come from Jamaica, we are showing people there is no linear way of anything,” declares Lila Iké.

Lila Iké will reveal the artwork for her debut EP The ExPerience at a later date.

Her new single “I Spy” is available now on all platforms.

U.S. Olympic Swim Trials Proves to be a Beacon of Hope for Omaha

The disruption caused by COVID-19 has seen an unprecedented number of event cancellations and postponements across the globe. The first sign of hope for Omaha came in the form of USA Swimming’s announcement on Friday, April 10, 2020 that the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming will return to Omaha June 13-20, 2021.

“During a time when hotels, restaurants, attractions and businesses are suffering tremendously, this announcement is a huge catalyst of hope for our city,” said Keith Backsen, Visit Omaha executive director.

The 2020 U.S. Olympic Swim Trials, originally set to take place in Omaha this year, were called off when the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The new 2021 dates mean the Swim Trials will overlap with the opening weekend of the 2021 NCAA Men’s College World Series in Omaha.

“The overlap created some tough logistical issues,” said Backsen. “But once again, our city rallied together and demonstrated its resilience.”

The new dates also mean Omaha will go down in history as the first city to host an Olympic Trials for both the Summer and Winter Olympic games in the same year. Omaha is set to host the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Curling for the second time, November 13-21, 2021.

This will be the fourth time since 2008 that Omaha has hosted the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials. The 2008 and 2012 Trials broke attendance records, and in 2016 attendance exceeded 200,000 for the first time ever, with all 15 sessions sold out. In 2017, Omaha held its first Olympic Curling Trials. This set the stage for the 2018 Winter Olympics in which the U.S. Curling Team went on to win gold for the first time.

Amtrak Teams with Transportation Partners Across the Country to #SoundTheHorn to Honor All Essential Workers

Coalition of transportation agencies join in solidarity to honor heroic workers across the country by giving two horn blasts at 3:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 16

Amtrak is collaborating with transportation partners nationwide to honor all of the heroic transportation and other essential workers across the country with the #SoundTheHorn campaign – a coordinated effort to simultaneously sound vehicle horns at 3:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 16.

Partners supporting the cause throughout the country include the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, NJ TRANSIT, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in the Northeast, SEPTA and the Maryland Transit Administration in the Mid-Atlantic region, MBTA in New England, Memphis Area Transit Authority in the South, Metra, PaceBus and NICTD in the Midwest and Metrolink and AC Transit on the West Coast.

As a tribute to the essential workers on the front lines of this public health crisis, including transportation workers, every Amtrak train in service across the country, and several thousand trains and buses running in service nationwide, will give two one-second horn blasts in solidarity with partner agencies. Heroic transportation workers continue to provide critical service for heroic healthcare workers, first responders, childcare workers, grocery store employees and other heroes who are performing critically essential work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Every hero deserves to be recognized and thanked for their courage, selflessness and the help they are providing to this country during this time,” said Amtrak Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating and Commercial Officer Stephen Gardner. “We are proud to participate with our partners and ‘sound our horns’ by honoring and thanking all of the heroes across the nation who continue their essential and heroic service.”

“I’m grateful for this opportunity to recognize and thank essential employees working throughout Oregon’s transportation system,” said ODOT Director Kris Strickler. “These individuals are on the front-line, providing critical services to help us get through the COVID-19 challenges. By joining with others across the country in this campaign, we’re making our message loud and clear: ‘We couldn’t do it without you.’”

“The San Joaquin Joint Powers Authority (SJJPA) and Amtrak San Joaquins staff are committed to continuing to provide essential transportation for Californians and to #SoundTheHorn on Thursday along with our regional partners,” said SJJPA Executive Director Stacey Mortensen. “While we continue to navigate this challenging environment, we understand that services like the San Joaquins continue to provide connectivity to many Californians including essential workers and others in need of alternative transportation options. We thank all the region’s transportation workers for their incredible commitment and service.”

“We are grateful for the onboard crew and all other transit staff who come to work each day to perform essential duties,” said Al Murray, chairman of the Los Angeles–San Diego–San Luis Obispo Rail Corridor Agency, which oversees the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner service. “These people work to move essential personnel including our region’s hospital workers and first responders, and we commend their tireless efforts to provide this vital public service.”

“We are incredibly grateful to all of the frontline staff who continue to serve those passengers who rely on our service every day,” said Managing Director of the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority, Rob Padgette. “Without the vital work they do on board our trains, at stations, and in the maintenance yards, we would not be able to provide the core level of service needed for essential workers to travel within Northern California.”

“AC Transit’s hero’s neither wears a cape nor costume,” said General Manager, Michael Hursh. “Instead, our hero’s suit up in personal protective equipment, each day, to ensure that the most vulnerable in our communities continue to have access to life essentials: doctors, groceries, and paychecks. We now know, our Bus Operators, Mechanics, Service Employees, and Road Supervisors are helping local healthcare workers arrive at treating facilities to battle COVID-19. We are witnessing American courage and bravery personified, so #SoundTheHorn is the least we can collectively do to honor the quiet daily heroism of transit professionals.”

“I am so thankful to the essential workers, including our own, that are dedicated during these challenging times to keep our communities functioning,” said Metrolink CEO Stephanie Wiggins. “We are blowing our horns to observe their service as we help those who are helping others by getting them to work and the places they need to go. At the same time, we support the message of health and government officials to the community: If you can stay home, please do. If you need transportation for an essential function, Metrolink is here.”

Zig Mentality × LAVA Records

INTRODUCING ZIG MENTALITY

ZIG MENTALITY is made up of brothers Jig Dubé [bass, lead vocals], Liam Dubé [lead guitar] and Quinn Dubé [drums, backup vocals]. The band, formerly known as dubé, has received over four million streams across their catalog to date. In 2017, they unleashed their independent debut single “Pretty Girls On Bikes,” which surpassed half-a-million Spotify streams. The 2018 single “Stoned Love” put up equally impressive numbers, and Brooklyn Vegan proclaimed them, “a tight, loud band, and they don’t shy away from crisp production or big hooks.”

In between tours with the likes of COUNTERFEIT. and cleopatrick, ZIG MENTALITY graced the stage of Northern Invasion alongside icons, such as Tool and Alice In Chains. During 2019, the band inked a deal with LAVA Records and hit the studio with producers Sacha Skarbek and Florian Reutter to work on their forthcoming release.

Stay tuned for more from ZIG MENTALITY!

ABOUT ZIG MENTALITY

An Ottawa trio of brothers—Jig Dubé [bass, lead vocals], Liam Dubé [lead guitar] and Quinn Dubé [drums, backup vocals]—proudly live up to their chosen name on their self-titled LAVA debut. “ZIG MENTALITY means being ready to adapt and grow,” exclaims Jig. “A zig is a sharp change in direction, so we’re willing to keep an open mind and break rules. That goes for the fact that we’re playing rock music our own way. If you come to one of our shows, there are mosh pits, stage diving, and crowd surfing, we want young people to benefit from the vibe we offer.” As kids in the Canadian capital, the boys grew up surrounded by instruments, obsessed with music, they began busking throughout Montreal and Toronto. By middle school, they hosted parking lot performances before and after OSHEAGA Music and Arts Festival, Ottawa Blues Fest and Bonnaroo. It wasn’t long before residents started calling cops to shut down their outdoor rock shows. The brothers moved the shows indoors, to the homes of their friends, and hosted parties of their own. These gigs became the stuff of local lore and established them as hometown heroes. During 2019, they inked a deal with LAVA and hit the studio with producers Sacha Skarbek and Florian Reutter, recording in Orange Lounge Toronto and their own basement. Culling equal inspiration from Queens of the Stone Age as well as Kendrick Lamar and Rage Against The Machine, they emphasized live bass at the forefront, breaking from tradition even further. In the end, ZIG MENTALITY embodies what punk has always been about but with a sound belonging in the 21st century.
