Diagnosed with a rare form of cervical cancer in 2010 that eventually led to a full hysterectomy in 2013, Kat uses the name “Miss Meatface” as an artistic and spiritual catalyst to delve into a complex set of questions about where she now fits into society as a woman. New Wine Bar in Echo Park

TILDA OPENS IN THE HEART OF ECHO PARK

New Little Wine Bar is Big on California Wine and Independent Winemakers

Tilda, a new 374-square foot wine bar and bottle shop owned and operated by Echo Park residents Jason Goldman and his partner Christian Stayner opened today on Echo Park Avenue, among other food businesses and neighborhood shops on this walkable, tree-lined corridor. Tilda specializes in California natural wines—served by the glass and available for retail purchase—paired with simple meals at lunch, dinner, and into the evening. Carrie Funk, formerly of Ostrich Farm and Bar Calò, is Tilda’s General Manager, chef, and head of wine curation.

Tilda’s mix of food service, on-site pours, and wine retail takes inspiration from Paris’s caves-à-manger, informal and intimate gathering places that blur the boundaries between restaurant, wine bar, and wine shop. Only here in Echo Park the wine pays tribute to the bounty of California and the principles of natural winemaking.

The decision to focus on natural wines from California grew from the team’s interest in supporting local winemakers, as well as the diminutive size of the space. “Focusing in on California natural wines was a perfect fit for us, and a direct reflection of Tilda’s ethos,” said General Manager Carrie Funk.

“When you’re tight on space you also have to be honest about your priorities. Ours are the environmental and social impacts of winemaking, the price and accessibility of the bottle, and ultimately the experience of sharing the wine with friends. Every one of our wines is a relationship we’ve chosen to invest in, and our winemakers are a reflection of the diversity of our state and community. We are proud to support winemakers who are young, local, female, queer, independent, and socially conscious.”

The space is designed by Stayner Architects who capitalized on Tilda’s small size to create an intimate space with homelike qualities. “The space is reminiscent of a studio apartment — compact and contiguous — so we decided to play with that quality,” said Christian Stayner, the architect and co-owner of Tilda.

Custom-built furniture and vintage pieces that Stayner has collected over the past decade from Hans Bergstrom and Louis Kalf are mixed with Alexander Girard’s ‘Superweave’ textiles and abstract paintings. “We were inspired by the design and strong identities of The Esalen Institute, Braniff Airways, and Sunset magazine in the late 1960s and 70s,” said Stayner.

“We started to think of it as Tilda’s living room, and so wanted to impart the unfussy hospitality of being hosted by a wine-loving friend.” – Christian Stayner

Tilda is one part of a trio of businesses located in the unassuming bow truss building on Echo Park Avenue, which was originally built in 1928 and has been carefully repurposed. Later this year, Goldman will open Etti, a Roman-Italian eatery with walk-up counter service for coffee and a full menu of Roman-inspired fare. The building will also house The Parrot House, a small creative coworking space headed by Stayner’s sister, McKenna, a magazine editor and writer. The Parrot House will be a shared workspace for independent journalists, writers, academics, and others in the narrative arts, and it will offer LGBTQ+ programming, design talks, and other community-driven activities.

Etti and The Parrot House are expected to open in spring 2020. Stayner Architects designed all three spaces, and overhauled every aspect of the building except its original masonry walls and bow-truss ceiling. Their design highlights these original features with 16-foot-tall glass and wood-beam interior walls that allow light to flood from one space to another. “We wanted to bring out the building’s historical qualities while also transforming the space into something new,” said Stayner. “We gave each of the three businesses a distinctive identity but allowed the building’s patina to shine through.”

Instagram

Tilda is located at 1507 Echo Park Avenue and is open each Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday, and Monday from noon to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from noon to midnight.

Gaucho – Buenos Aires Appoints New Creative Director

GAUCHO – BUENOS AIRES Appoints Lautaro Amadeo Tambutto As Creative Director.

Gaucho – Buenos Aires, an emerging luxury label with global ambitions, is pleased to announce they have appointed in-house designer, Lautaro Amadeo Tambutto as the brand’s Creative Director. His role and primary duties as a designer ;will now be expanded, managing the conception, design, and on-brand execution of materials for the brand. Tambutto will be working primarily out of the business’s headquarters in New York City, as well as the atelier in Buenos Aires’ upmarket Recoleta district.

Off the heels of a successful debut at New York Fashion Week in September 2019, Tambutto joined the growing Gaucho – Buenos Aires brand in December, with plans to incorporate creative silhouettes and lots of leather with an urban spin for the young and culturally aware clientele. Tambutto’s “GPS Collection” – slated for the SS20-21 season – plots a course on a fashion journey that builds upon contemporary urban and athleisure trends. By injecting elegance and sophistication into streetwear fashion, Tambutto intends to elevate streetwear casual to streetwear elegance, and seeks to globally position Gaucho – Buenos Aires’ spirit of Argentina as a major presence in the fashion landscape.

Born in Argentina, Tambutto’s family originally hails from San Antonio de Areco – otherwise known as the home of the Gaucho. Having received his training in Italy, Vogue Italia has described his aesthetic as a “very modern and richly inspired take on sportswear,” and it is indeed an appealing mix of references – “the sweet spot between sportswear, traditional tailoring and Latin American influences,” Tambutto says. It all resonates strongly with Gaucho – Buenos Aires’ own design DNA. Tambutto sees immense possibilities for the emerging brand to put Buenos Aires on the luxury fashion map and looks forward to bringing long-overdue recognition to Argentinian design.

“I’m very excited about taking over the creative direction of Gaucho and working with such a professional group. The team’s support and mutual understanding of each other helps us move forward in the right direction. Since the beginning of my career, I saw the image of the Gaucho as an icon and my inspiration, and now with this opportunity as Creative Director for Gaucho – Buenos Aires, I have the platform to show the world my vision, my traditions, and a canvas to highlight this beautiful culture,” said Tambutto.

“We could not be more excited to promote Lautaro into his new role as Creative Director. His positive attitude, heritage and talent lends to the authenticity of our brand” said Scott Mathis, Gaucho Group Holdings, Inc.’s Founder & Chairman.

“Lautaro’s creative vision and style pairs perfectly with Gaucho – Buenos Aires’ growing collection of products, the authenticity of Argentina, and the elegance and style of Buenos Aires. We look forward to great things from our team in the future. Our company’s future lies in e-commerce, where we have the opportunity to achieve global scale.”

About Gaucho – Buenos Aires
Gaucho – Buenos Aires blends the quality of a bygone era with a sophisticated, modern, global outlook. The brand’s beautifully handcrafted clothing and accessories herald the birth of Buenos Aires’ finest designer label. In September 2019, Gaucho – Buenos Aires entered the US market with a Spring/Summer 2020 runway show at NYFW celebrating the romance and glamour of Buenos Aires with a modern twist. Drawing on the cosmopolitan vibe of Buenos Aires and the spirit of traditional Gaucho culture, Gaucho – Buenos Aires is a new destination for luxury ready-to-wear and leather accessories. Weaving artisan techniques and materials into innovative contemporary designs, Gaucho is gaining traction as an emerging designer brand to watch.

Robbie Robertson New Music Video

ROBBIE ROBERTSON DEBUTS MUSIC VIDEO FOR “ONCE WERE BROTHERS” DIRECTED BY KEVIN KERSLAKE (NIRVANA, SMASHING PUMPKINS, SONIC YOUTH)

LEGENDARY SONGWRITER’S FIRST VIDEO IN MORE THAN TWO DECADES INSPIRED TITLE OF FORTHCOMING DOCUMENTARY, “ONCE WERE BROTHERS: ROBBIE ROBERTSON AND THE BAND,” AND IS FEATURED ON HIS ACCLAIMED ALBUM, SINEMATIC

VIDEO PREMIERING TODAY VIA ROLLING STONE

WATCH VIDEO FOR “ONCE WERE BROTHERS

With just a few more weeks to go before the release of the highly anticipated feature length documentary film, “Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band,” legendary songwriter and musician Robbie Robertson is sharing the music video for the song that inspired the title of the film. Directed by Kevin Kerslake, the venerable director and documentarian who helped define the visual aesthetic of rock and grunge in the ‘90s with his iconic videos for the likes of Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, Green Day and dozens more, and most recently helmed the lauded Joan Jett documentary, “Bad Reputation,” the video features a riveting, intimate performance by Robertson juxtaposed with monochromatic and sepia-toned Victorian, Civil War and carnival imagery along with uniquely shot footage of athletes and acrobats. Combining modern digital technology with some of the earliest photo and motion picture techniques, Robertson’s first music video in more than two decades captures the artist like never before as he reflects about the bond he shared with his brothers in the pioneering group The Band and its eventual dissolution. The video is premiering today via Rolling Stone.

“Writing ‘Once Were Brothers’ for my album Sinematic hurt inside sometimes, but it was a rewarding experience as it allowed me to think back about the extraordinary brotherhood of The Band,” said Robertson. “When the filmmakers heard the song, they were deeply moved and not only wanted to use it in the movie but decided to call the film ‘Once Were Brothers.’ For the video we wanted to go in a different direction. Director Kevin Kerslake came on board with an abundance of imagination and style. We had a brilliant time working together.”

“I’ve admired Robbie for a long time and he never really hits a sour note,” said Kerslake. “We talked a while ago, probably about 25 years ago about doing a music video but that didn’t end up happening. It’s nice that it came back around. For the video, we mimicked a process that was invented in the late 1800s by photographer/filmmaker/inventor Eadweard Muybridge who did motion studies, which is sort of a combination of still photography and motion pictures. The process involved shooting things at a very high speed, basically a bunch of different stills. We then made prints of everything that we shot, put them in a drum like a zoetrope which is an old antiquated viewing device that when the drum goes around and around you see all these sorts of loops almost like a picture book. There’s a very antique, historic sensibility that fuels this video that is based on that work.”

“Once Were Brothers” is featured on Robertson’s acclaimed album, Sinematic (UMe), released this past fall to rave reviews. The songwriter’s first new studio album in eight years was inspired by his decades of creating and composing music for film and is filled with gripping tales of villainy and vice, mobsters and gangsters embroiled in corruption and crime, melancholy stories about destruction and devastation and a pair of deeply personal songs about The Band and the youthful dream that launched his wildly successful six decade-long career. The evocative 13-song collection, which plays like a series of mini movies, builds on Robertson’s celebrated solo works while pushing his songwriting into exciting new sonic territory. Robertson is joined on “Once Were Brothers” by Nairobi native J.S. Ondara and American singer/songwriter Citizen Cope. Mournful strains of a harmonica and organ play as Robertson relates The Band’s farewell, singing “Once were brothers/Brothers no more.”

Inspired by Robertson’s acclaimed 2016 autobiography, “Testimony,” director Daniel Roher’s documentary, “Once Were Brothers,” is a confessional, cautionary, and sometimes humorous tale of Robertson’s young life and the creation of one of the most enduring groups in the history of popular music, The Band. The compelling film blends rare archival footage, photography, iconic songs, and interviews with many of Robertson’s friends and collaborators, including Martin Scorsese, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Peter Gabriel, Taj Mahal, Dominique Robertson, and Ronnie Hawkins. Made in conjunction with Imagine Documentaries, White Pine Pictures, Bell Media Studios, and Universal Music Canada’s Shed Creative, the project is executive produced by Martin Scorsese; Imagine Entertainment chairmen Brian Grazer and Ron Howard; Justin Wilkes and Sara Bernstein for Imagine Documentaries; White Pines Pictures’ president Peter Raymont, and COO Steve Ord; Bell Media president, Randy Lennox; Jared Levine; Michael Levine; Universal Music Canada president and CEO Jeffrey Remedios; and Shed Creative’s managing director Dave Harris. The film is produced by Andrew Munger, Stephen Paniccia, Sam Sutherland, and Lana Belle Mauro.

“Once Were Brothers” will open theatrically in NYC and LA on February 21 and nationally on February 28. Visit OnceWereBrothers.com for theater listings and view the trailer here:

Robertson drew inspiration for Sinematic from his recent film score writing and recording for director Martin Scorsese’s long-awaited organized crime epic, “The Irishman,” which is nominated for 10 Academy Awards. The film features album tracks “I Heard You Paint Houses,” a duet with Van Morrison, and “Remembrance,” which plays during the end credits.

Qatar Airways and Brooklyn Nets x Black History Month

Qatar Airways and Brooklyn Nets Celebrate Black History Month

To tip off the month, Qatar Airways hosted students and former Tuskegee
Airman for a series of events

On Monday, Qatar Airways, official airline partner of the Brooklyn Nets, celebrated Black History Month
by honoring the historical achievements of African Americans during the Nets game at Barclays Center.
The luxury airline invited Tuskegee Airman Willie Jackson, local community organization, United Youth
Aviators, and students and alumni from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to enjoy a
series of activities throughout the evening.

To tip off the night, Qatar Airways presented former Tuskegee Airman and President of the 369th
Regiment Sergeant (ret.) Willie Jackson, with a special game ball delivery. The evening also included an
on-court, around the world competition with an HBCU alumni, for the opportunity to win roundtrip tickets
to incredible Qatar Airways destinations. Additionally, the airline highlighted stories of seven Black
aviation pioneers throughout the arena during the night and distributed Black History Month themed rally
towels to the first 5,000 fans in attendance.

“Black History Month is a time of reflection and an important reminder of the work we have left to do,”
says Senior Vice President of the Americas Eric Odone. “At Qatar Airways, we are fortunate to have
opportunities to engage with the community, and we’re grateful that our partnership with the Brooklyn
Nets and Barclays Center allows us to take these educational commitments further.”
Leading up to Black History Month, in partnership with Qatar Airways, Nets player Nic Claxton visited the
Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum along with 20 children from United Youth Aviators. United Youth
Aviators is a specially-curated program that offers students from New York City the opportunity to learn
about aviation from an early age and ultimately how to fly a plane. Representatives from Qatar Airways
accompanied the group on their private tour around the museum, where they experienced the rich
aviation history and cultural significance.

The Doha-based airline also hosted the group from United Youth Aviators in a private suite at the Nets
game on February 3 where they participated in a Q&A session with Willie Jackson on his experience with
the Tuskegee Airmen. The children were also invited to stand on-court with Nets players during the
national anthem.

The month-long celebration of African American history is part of Qatar Airways’ corporate social
responsibility efforts aimed at building stronger communities and providing youth with meaningful
educational opportunities.

A multiple award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was named ‘World’s Best Airline’ by the 2019 World
Airline Awards, managed by Skytrax. It was also named ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’, ‘World’s Best
Business Class’, and ‘Best Business Class Seat’, in recognition of its ground-breaking Business Class
experience, Qsuite. It is the only airline to have been awarded the coveted ‘Skytrax Airline of the Year’
title, which is recognized as the pinnacle of excellence in the airline industry, a record five times.
Qatar Airways operates a modern fleet of more than 250 aircraft via its hub, Hamad International Airport
(HIA), to more than 160 destinations worldwide. The world’s fastest-growing airline added several new
destinations to its network last year, including Rabat, Morocco; Izmir, Turkey; Malta; Davao, Philippines;
Lisbon, Portugal; Mogadishu, Somalia; Langkawi, Malaysia; and Gaborone, Botswana. The airline will
add Santorini, Greece; Dubrovnik, Croatia; Osaka, Japan; Nur-Sultan and Almaty, Kazakhstan; Cebu,

You have to apply these for 2 weeks roughly before you will see the effects.
  3. Teeth Bleaching treatment by the dentist: It is the most popular and effective teeth whitening procedure. The dentist uses a bleaching agent that is more potent than the usual whitening agents. They also make sure that these products do not affect your gums negatively. They also use buffers to protect your tooth enamel. Results are immediate within a 30-60 minute seating. The results often last up to one year or more.

What to expect at a dentist?

When you get your appointment for the procedure, a lip retractor is placed in your mouth to keep it open. The dentist then covers your gums for protection. The inside of your mouth is painted with a mucopurulent gel. As you won’t be able to speak for a while, ask for a notepad and pen for communication as this bleaching session starts. He will paint your teeth with peroxide gel on each tooth. After that, a high-intensity light is streamed over them for 20minutes for the activation process of chemical treatment. The light is turned off after the activation process is over. After this, the hygienist will apply a new coat. The treatment includes three to four rounds each for the procedure. The session will last for about 2 hours each. If the patient experiences sensitivity and discomfort, the rounds will be cut down.
