Rolls-Royce Bespoke

2019 saw The Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective, a team of engineers, designers and craftspeople residing at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, England, create more Bespoke motor cars than ever before in the marque’s 116 year history. Unprecedented levels of creativity, craft and imagination have brought the unique visions of the marque’s global patrons to life. Almost every one of the record 5,152 motor cars created in 2019 was respectfully tailored by this Bespoke division.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, commented, “I am proud to say that the craftsmen and women of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars have surpassed themselves once again in creating an array of extraordinary motor cars, tailored to the requirements of some of the most influential and discerning individuals in the world. These motor cars become unique works of art and it is an extraordinary feat when you consider that each and every single one of these unique commissions has been created on one production line at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, West Sussex – the skills of these individuals knows no bounds.”

What follows is an overview of some of the finest examples of Bespoke design and craftsmanship completed by the luxury house throughout 2019.

THE MILLION STITCH ROLLS-ROYCE

CANVAS: PHANTOM │MEDIUM: EMBROIDERY

A Stockholm-based entrepreneur with a passion for flowers challenged the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective to create a car that immersed its occupants in floral decadence. The result was the ‘Rose Phantom’: a vision made with a million embroidered stitches.

The starting point was a rose bred exclusively for Rolls-Royce by Harkness Roses. The Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, England is the only place in the world where this rose is grown.

The Peacock Blue exterior of the Rose Phantom is punctuated with a Charles Blue twinned-coachline that intertwines organically like the stem of a rose, combining to introduce the rose motif.

Inside, the marque’s fabled starlight headliner illuminates the floral scene, with roses interspersed with Peacock and Adonis Blue butterflies. As a centrepiece of the interior, Phantom’s Gallery is adorned by stems of embroidered roses climbing through the glass fronted fascia.

GHOST ZENITH COLLECTION

CANVAS: GHOST │MEDIUM: ENGRAVING, COMMEMORATIVE INGOT, PERFORATED LEATHER, EMBROIDERY

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars marked the close of 10 remarkable years of Ghost by creating a limited edition ‘Zenith Collection’. With just 50 Ghost Zeniths made, the car featured the highest levels of Bespoke ever seen in a Ghost Collection.

The Ghost Zenith drew references from 200EX, the experimental car that introduced the contemporary expression of the Ghost nameplate in 2009. This design was immortalized in a blueprint-inspired artwork, divided into 50 distinct parts, and engraved on the centre console of Ghost Zenith.

A commemorative ingot, made from the original Spirit of Ecstasy of 200EX, was set into the centre console of each of the cars. The Collection’s own Spirit of Ecstasy and clock are engraved with the Zenith name.

Inside, ambient lighting shines through perforated leather, while the rear seats feature embroidery inspired by the seat details of the original 1907 Silver Ghost. The Ghost Zenith Standard Wheelbase also features an extraordinary starlight headliner with a unique Shooting Star configuration. Light trails fire at random across the cabin roof, which consists of over 1,340 individual, hand-finished fibre-optic lights.

BAYSIDE DAWN AERO COWLING

CANVAS: DAWN │MEDIUM: AERO COWLING

Following the arrival of the Dawn Aero Cowling in 2018, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars paid tribute to the sea with the Bayside Dawn Aero Cowling. Commissioned by a customer in Yokohama, Japan, this maritime-themed Bespoke motor car paid homage to their seafaring home city.

This one-off model drew inspiration from yachts and speedboats, combining both technical and natural materials. Open-pore teak Canadel panelling, reminiscent of a yacht’s deck, is matched with cutting-edge technical fibre. The rear deck complements exterior paint and interior leather colours, evoking the blue seas and white sails associated with the finest traditions of Yokohama Bay.

WRAITH TEAL

CANVAS: WRAITH│MEDIUM: PAINT, EMBROIDERY

A Wraith in a rich Teal hue adopts the colours of the Arabian Sea. The interior leather colour-way is newly developed to precisely colour-match the exterior, ensuring the patron is cocooned in vibrant, luscious luxury.  Contemporary architecture influences a large-scale embroidery positioned on the rear waterfall, with stitches positioned for optimum light refraction to accentuate the geometric motif.

The colourful canvas is offset with chrome controls, interior vents and speaker grilles, darkened with a PVD coating.

DIGITAL SOUL PHANTOM

CANVAS: PHANTOM │MEDIUM: ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING, GOLD PLATING, GOLD INLAYS

The Digital Soul Phantom is a study in contemporary artisanship; a fusion of human endeavour and computer-generated design. At the heart of this Carrara White with Smokey Quartz two-tone Phantom is a Gallery created by Product Designer Thorsten Franck. An individual’s characteristics are interpreted by an algorithm which translates the data into a swathe of 3D-printed stainless steel. This is then hand-polished and plated in 24-carat gold, resulting in a unique artwork that embodies jewellery, sculpture and architecture.

Gold detailing embellishes the interior of the motor car, with Gold inlays set by hand in Smoked Eucalyptus wood and gold-plated speaker grilles concluding the aesthetic.

WRAITH EAGLE VIII COLLECTION

CANVAS: WRAITH │MEDIUM: GOLD VACUUM METALIZED WOOD WITH SILVER AND COPPER INLAYS,

To mark the centenary of the first non-stop transatlantic flight by Alcock and Brown in June 1919, Rolls-Royce created 50 extraordinary Wraiths in the Wraith Eagle VIII Collection.

The story of their perilous night-time journey, propelled by Rolls-Royce Eagle VIII engines, is told using Wraith as a canvas. A unique starlight headliner with 1,183 fibre-optic lights depicts the night time sky at the time of their flight. The flight path and constellations are embroidered in brass thread and the exact moment the pair left the clouds, also illustrated in embroidery, and navigated by the stars is indicated by a red fibre-optic light.

Brass speaker covers depict the estimated 1,880-mile flight distance whilst a brass plaque engraved with Winston Churchill’s stirring quote commending the pair’s remarkable achievement adorns the driver’s door.

The Smoked Eucalyptus fascia, vacuum metalized in gold and inlaid with silver and copper, depicts a birds-eye view of the Earth at night, showing a light map of roads and homes glittering below.

HOROLOGY PHANTOM

CANVAS: PHANTOM │MEDIUM: STAINLESS STEEL AND GOLD INLAY, COACHLINE

The Horology Phantom is touched with elements redolent of fine timepieces. The car was inspired by a meeting of a Rolls-Royce Motor Cars designer and master horologists from La Chaux-de-Fonds in Switzerland, who convened to explore the complexities and exotic movements of contemporary luxury timepieces.

Set against a Gunmetal and Black two-tone exterior finish, a gold and silver hand-painted twin coachline incorporates an intricate watch-inspired design; the Spirit of Ecstasy is cloaked in 24-carat gold. Inside, the fascia features the largest stainless steel and gold inlay ever made for Phantom. Positioned below a multiple layered stainless-steel Gallery, the inlay depicts an abstract schematic of a watch movement. The Rolls-Royce clock, housed in the Gallery, is set in a solid silver, guilloché case.

PEBBLE BEACH PASTEL COLLECTION

CANVAS: GHOST, DAWN, WRAITH │MEDIUM: PAINT, TECHNICAL FIBRE

The Pastel Collection, showcased at Pebble Beach, drew upon a palette of colours from this year’s ‘wildflower super-bloom’ on California’s Monterey Peninsula. Three unique Black Badge commissions brought new colours to the Rolls-Royce Bespoke palette, reaffirming the notion that a Rolls-Royce Black Badge need not necessarily be black.

The Ghost Black Badge featured a Light Green Solid finish, a pastel shade representing the rebirth of flora on the peninsula after years of drought and fire. The black leather interior features a striking Serenity Green splash, highlighting the technical fibre of the fascia.

The Dawn Black Badge, in Coral Solid, showcases a stunning Bespoke finish only achieved after seven coats of paint and more than nine hours of hand-polishing in the Surface Finish Centre at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood. The Coral colour carries over to the Aero Cowling, while the interior is finished in Artic White and Sunset, an illustration of northern California’s hills and valleys in bloom.

The third car is a Wraith Black Badge in Semaphore Yellow, a bright and sunny finish for the most powerful member of the Rolls-Royce family, complemented by a Selby Grey and Lemon interior.

FALCON WRAITH

CANVAS: WRAITH │MEDIUM: EMBROIDERY, PAINT

The Falcon Wraith features the most detailed single embroidery to ever appear in a Rolls-Royce motor car. An intricate embroidery of a Peregrine Falcon, the fastest bird in the world, is interpreted in photo-realistic detail amongst clouds on Wraith’s headlining. Consisting of nearly 250,000 stitches, the dramatic embroidery took more than one month to develop.

A unique coachline in Arctic White hints at the form of the bird’s wing, with the motif additionally embroidered between the rear seats and painted onto Wraith’s fascia.

THE ARABIAN GULF PHANTOM

CANVAS: PHANTOM │MEDIUM: EMBROIDERY, PAINT, MOTHER OF PEARL, SCULPTED SILK APLIQUÉ

The Arabian Gulf Phantom adopts the rich colours and historical narrative of pearl diving in the Middle East. The Turchese exterior hue is evocative of the vibrant local waters, while the Andalusian White upper two-tone recalls the purity of natural pearls, alluding to the story within. An Arctic White coachline introduces a hand-painted Nautilus shell motif that forms the basis for the car’s design.

A sculpted silk appliqué Gallery by British Artist Helen Amy Murray takes centre stage across the motor car’s fascia. Reminiscent of swelling oceans, the Turchese Gallery is punctuated by a Mother of Pearl clock.

The Nautilus shell is embroidered on Phantom’s rear doors, whilst the rear occupants may also enjoy the motif in Mother of Pearl marquetry on the picnic tables’ fascia. Once deployed, the picnic tables present a complex piece of marquetry, incorporating generously applied Mother of Pearl to the picnic table-top.

TRANQUILLITY COLLECTION

CANVAS: PHANTOM │MEDIUM: METEORITE, SPACE GRADE ALUMINIUM, GOLD PLATE

Named and crafted to celebrate the feeling of euphoric tranquillity one achieves within Phantom, this unique motor car is a curation of objects and inspirations from worlds beyond earthly bounds.

Tranquillity’s Gallery is inspired by the X-Ray coded aperture masks used on the British Skylark space rocket. The Gallery is made from stainless steel, 24-carat gold plating and space grade aluminium.

For the first time in Rolls-Royce history, meteorite has been incorporated into the interior of a car. Shavings of the Muonionalusta meteorite, which fell to earth in Kiruna, Sweden in 1906, adorn the Volume Controller, with a detailed engraving of the location and date of its discovery.

Inspired by the light and dark sides of the Moon, the interior colourway of Arctic White or Selby Grey leather integrates unique veneer combinations of gloss and satin, both with an exclusive metallic effect. Bespoke Audio speaker frets are finished in yellow gold, complementing the additional gold elements throughout the car.

A Bespoke ‘Technical’ yellow gold, vapour blasted and engraved titanium clock and engineered titanium Spirit of Ecstasy complete the aesthetic.

CULLINAN IN FUX ORANGE

CANVAS: CULLINAN │MEDIUM: PAINT

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars debuted the colourful ‘Cullinan in Fux Orange’ under the summer sun of Pebble Beach last year.

Working with the Bespoke Collective at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, West Sussex, a North American patron, Mr. Fux, challenged designers to match the exterior colour to vibrant orange shawl that had caught his eye in South Florida. The shawl was delivered to Rolls-Royce Motor Cars where a colour-matching process began. Working together for nearly a year, the teams created a seven-layer surface, polished by hand for many hours in the Surface Finish Centre.

The interior is decked in hand-crafted Arctic White leather with contrast Orange stitching and Orange Rolls-Royce ‘RR’ headrest monograms. Arctic White is carried over to the box-grain leather fascia, steering-wheel control stems and carpets. ‘Fux Orange’ fascia veneer, rear-view mirror and lambswool floor mats complete the cabin, which showcase the exacting standards brought to bear by Rolls-Royce’s craftspeople.

The Brumos Collection

The Brumos Collection today announced the official opening of a stunning new 35,000 square-foot interactive museum dedicated to the technology, innovation and historical significance behind some of the world’s finest automobiles. The new facility will be home to more than three dozen rare, historically acclaimed race and collector cars.

During a special event signifying this grand opening, Brumos also unveiled the newest member of this renowned collection, the iconic 1970 Gulf-liveried Porsche 917K driven by Steve McQueen in the legendary racing film “Le Mans.”

Widely considered the most famous Porsche 917 ever built, the historic racecar was initially used for Le Mans testing before being featured in the McQueen film. Housed in a barn for more than two decades, the 917K reemerged in 2001 and was full restored. This magnificent automobile was last seen publicly in 2017.

Also introduced to the collection today is a highly regarded 1968 Porsche 908 that conquered the Nürburgring. In the second track appearance ever for Porsche’s then-new 908, drivers Jo Siffert and Vic Elford tackled the notorious Nürburgring’s 1000 km in this yet-unproven model. Starting in the 27th position, Siffert guided the 908 to second at the end of the first lap and into the overall lead after the second lap, setting a lap record. This historic 908 persevered through a grueling 44 laps around Nürburgring’s 14-mile course, skillfully navigating a 1000-foot elevation change and 160 turns through the forest.

The Porsche 908 and McQueen’s 917K join a stable of more than three dozen hand-picked, truly remarkable vehicles spanning three centuries, providing museum guests with an up-front look at racing and automotive history.  The collection is highlighted by:

1972 Porsche 917-10

The first 917/10 was produced in 1971. This Can-Am Racer had a twin-turbocharged engine capable of 200+mph speeds at 1100 hp. Peter Gregg raced the car to a 9th place finish in the 1972 Can-Am Championship, followed by Hurley Haywood’s 3rd place finish in the 1973 Can-Am Series season. The Brumos Porsche 917-10 was the first race car to carry what has now become the iconic and recognizable white, red and blue livery with the famous Brumos Racing “sweeps.”

1914 Peugeot L45

Between 1912 and 1914, Peugeot made a handful of racecars with the world’s first dual overhead camshaft engines—the ancestors of all high-performance engines to follow. In the early 20th century, Peugeot racers ruled the scene with some of the sport’s greatest drivers: Jules Goux, the first foreigner to win the Indy 500; Georges Boillot, first winner of the French Grand Prix; and Italian driving ace Paolo Zuccarelli. Of those early Peugeots, this is one of only two that remain.

1979 Porsche 935

Peter Gregg won six IMSA Camel GT championships and scored 41 victories in the 1970s. In 1979, he won his final, and perhaps finest, season as he earned a record-setting eight wins and eight straight pole positions. The #59 Brumos Porsche 935 was Gregg’s last race car and is now believed to be the last remaining unmodified 935 still in existence.

The Porsche 935 was the final evolution of the legendary 911 Carrera as introduced by Brumos Racing in 1973. It is a 700+ HP, twin turbocharged racer capable of speeds in excess of 200 mph. The #59 Brumos Porsche 935 is shown exactly as it raced when it won the 1979 IMSA Championship, and is authentic in every detail, down to Gregg’s distinctive tartan seat upholstery. The car won 53 percent of the races it entered, carrying Peter Gregg to 20 percent of his total career IMSA victories.

1923 Miller 122 Grand Prix

Miller was the first American race car bought solely to race in Europe. This 1923 Miller 122 Grand Prix was driven by Bugatti racer Count Louis Zborowski, who raced it in England, Spain and France.  Returned to the United State 89 years later, this is considered one of the most complete surviving Millers.

A Unique Setting

In 1924, 16 years after the first Ford Model-T was produced, Henry Ford expanded production to a newly commissioned 165,000 square-foot plant in Jacksonville, Florida. The Brumos Collection is housed in a purpose-built facility whose meticulous design pays distinct homage to this part of Jacksonville’s automotive history.

From the moment guests enter the grounds, carefully crafted design details honor auto racing history. The guard rails along the roadways are reminiscent of the guard rails you would have found racing along the tracks of a bygone era; a board track walkway leads to the building entrance, and the surrounding brickwork pays tribute to the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway “Brickyard.”

“The Brumos Collection offers an exhibit of remarkable vehicles spanning three centuries, demonstrating the collaborations and rivalries that changed the automotive world,” said Executive Director Brandon Starks. “More than a technical tale, the exhibition reveals the very soul in these machines—cars inspired by their predecessors, with never-before-seen technologies developed by the hands of masters, tested in competition, and celebrated in history. Using interactive media, we’re able to bring these magnificent vehicles to life, providing guests with the opportunity to explore at their own pace.”

About The Brumos Collection

Located at 5159 San Pablo Road South in Jacksonville, The Brumos Collection welcomes visitors on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more comprehensive information, please visit: www.thebrumoscollection.com.

Future of Tourism in Colombia

Thanks to new hotel offerings, direct flights and a global focus on responsible travel,
Colombia is ushering in a new era of tourism.

Colombia has been named the number one trending destination for tourism in 2020 by the United States Tour Operators Association, and the experts at True Colombia Travel and Cannúa say this is only the beginning, as new hotels, flight paths and mindsets are driving change in the country’s tourism industry.

For the latter half of the last decade, backpackers have dominated the tourism scene in Colombia – typically younger travelers with ample time yet modest budgets. According to Brian Schon, co-founder and director of True Colombia Travel, a locally-owned and led tour operator offering custom cultural, culinary and environmental tours throughout Colombia, the next five years will see incredible changes in the way travelers can experience Colombia, giving way to a different type of visitor.

“From the type of hotels being built, to the increased accessibility from North America and what’s opening up within the country, it’s really incredible to see Colombia’s tourism growth unfolding in front of our eyes,” Schon says. “The country is only just starting to realize its tourism potential when it comes to being upscale and unique, and it is on track to be a major destination this decade for discerning travelers, looking for more luxury options, quick getaways and responsible practices.”

Here are several key predictions from Colombia’s travel experts for the next few years:

Shorter Trips Packed with Punch

As airlines start to offer more direct flights to Colombia from Canada and the United States, more North Americans will take advantage of Colombia as a quick getaway location, opening up whole new realm of unexplored opportunities for northern dwellers looking for an accessible, warm-weather escape.

“In the past, most visitors came for at least 10 days, with many of them staying 2 weeks, 3 weeks, even a month – in large part because it was so complicated to get here,” says Schon. “Now we are starting to get a ton of requests for week-long trips or even 4-5 days. People are recognizing that they can pop down to Colombia the same way they would to Florida, Puerto Rico or Mexico.”

While longer trips allow travelers to see more of Colombia and get to know the culture, Schon says there is still a lot of value in a short visit.

“The beauty of Colombia is you can go from the mountains to the beach within the same day, so there are lots of options to people who are short on time, especially if they stick to a specific geographic region,” says Schon. “In Antioquia, for example, guests can spend five days paragliding, hiking on pre-hispanic trails, exploring local caves, searching for wild hippos, and liberating endangered turtles.”

“Cutting down on layovers and travel time makes a quick jaunt to Colombia a lot more accessible, and North Americans will continue to discover this.”

More Boutique Luxury Hotels in Rural Areas

Colombia has seen incredible growth in its hotel sector, moving from a hostel-focused industry to one with luxury offerings in the big city centers of Cartagena, Medellin, Bogota, and Barranquilla. But with the recent opening of the boutique retreat Cannúa – sister company of True Colombia Travel – on Dec. 1, 2019 in Antioquia, hotel development is now starting to extend to rural areas.

“The magic of Colombia really comes from our rural areas – the Andes mountain towns, the Amazon basins, the unexplored Pacific Coast,” says Santiago Giraldo, General Manager and co-founder of Cannúa. “Typically, non-backpacking travelers base themselves in city centers, as there are lots of luxury offers there, and take day trips to rural regions; now, however, they can start to enjoy that same level of luxury in some of the most beautiful pockets of the country.”

Giraldo predicts there will be a rush over the next five years to construct these types of rural, high-end retreats, allowing for people to base themselves in remote areas closer to small villages, pre-hispanic treks or rushing waterfalls – especially as there is proof this concept works.

“We’ve seen this happen before in other countries with strong tourism sectors,” Giraldo says. “People are already latching on to what Cannúa offers, just as people latched onto the eco retreats of Costa Rica and the jungle villas of Thailand and the mountain lodges of Peru – and investors are sure to start taking notice soon, too.”

Responsible Approaches to Unexplored Regions

The past few years saw areas of Colombia open up to travelers and locals alike following the country’s historic peace accord in 2016, including the jungles around Puerto Berrio and the wild Pacific Coast, but some of it went too far: the Caño Cristales, a river known as the “melted rainbow” for its vibrant, multicolored hue, became such a popular, Instagrammable site that access to the area was restricted from visitor traffic in 2017 to give the overloaded ecosystem a break.

With international travelers concerned with their environmental and cultural impact more than ever before, the next five years of travel in Colombia will see stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industry focus on responsible growth.

“There’s a lot of potential for tourism to make a positive impact in these former ‘no-go zones,’ but it’s important that it’s developed in the right way,” Schon says. “We want to help make sure these communities are directly benefiting from opportunities created by tourism, and the ecosystems of Colombia – the second-most biodiverse country in the world – are protected.”

In an effort to ensure these newly accessible regions do not become exploited or overcrowded, True Colombia Travels partners with local communities in every region they operate within to build thoughtful experiences focused on small-group, low-impact travel.

“Our guests want to engage with nature, but they are also highly educated about the impact that travel can have on local communities and on the environment,” says Schon. “Colombian operators, especially those who see the potential for growth in these newly-accessible regions, are going to have to answer to international travelers who are focused on these issues and make responsible travel practices top-of-mind across the industry.”

The all-new ProStar 2.0L engine delivers more power and more fun, while the completely redesigned cockpit and interior elevates the shared experience for both the driver and their passenger.”

INTERIOR

As we entered the cabin, we took note of the new premium leather-wrapped, flat-bottom steering wheel with multi-function controls and integrated cruise control which immediately redefines the personal connection between the driver and vehicle. The redesigned cockpit was purposeful in its execution. Talk about driver intuition. The seven-inch display receives an improved viewing angle and even brighter screen, allowing drivers and passengers to easily view and interact with the system in broad daylight. Available as standard equipment for both models, Ride Command provides convenient access to key vehicle information and mobile phone pairing via two USB ports or via Bluetooth®. Drivers can access AM/FM radio or listen to their favorite music with crystal-clear audio thanks to the 100-watt Rockford Fosgate® audio system. Drivers can also build a route with multiple waypoints and access real-time traffic and weather overlays to ensure clear roads for the most enjoyable driving experience. By utilizing the Ride Command mobile app, drivers can remotely access key vehicle data and conveniently plan ride routes ahead of time.

“The 2020 lineup embodies what Slingshot stands for – a creative escape to enjoy the road ahead,” said Dougherty. “We are unveiling a vehicle that truly embodies the adventurous spirit the brand stands for, the social nature of our customers, and the stand-out attitude only a Slingshot can deliver.”

At the heart of the 2020 Slingshot is Polaris Industries’ first four-cylinder engine, the ProStar 2.0L. Tuned to perfection and put through an exhaustive track and on-road testing program, the ProStar 2.0L was designed to deliver a range of performance capabilities and to enhance an already incredible on-road experience. The SL packs 178 horsepower at an incredible 8500 RPM, while the new R model redlines at 8500 RPM and puts out a jaw-dropping 203 peak horsepower at 8250 RPM – an increase of 30 horsepower when compared to the previous powertrain. With an all-new tuned exhaust, the ProStar engine roars down the road, ensuring everyone within ear-shot will take notice. In addition, it possses better cornering and braking than it’s predecessor.

With an improved suspension and chassis, the 2020 Slingshot is a game-changer – offering a driving experience in-line with its bold, look-at-me styling. The 2020 Slingshot exterior features a refreshed frontasia with a bodacious new signature look that only Slingshot can own. Upgrades include: new front accent lighting; new LED headlamps and signature taillights; all-new wheels and wheel options and stand-out paint as well as graphic schemes.

The Disadvantages of Buying a New Car: The Ultimate Guide

One of the many disadvantages of buying a new car is the fact that the value immediately depreciates as soon as you drive it off the lot.

Each year, people buy over 17 million new cars in the United States.

If you’re thinking of getting a vehicle, there’s a good chance you have considered buying a new car. You should always take into consideration the disadvantages of buying a new car. It’s a big decision, and you don’t want to rush into it.

Buying a car can be a great experience, and it can make you feel better. A lot of people avoid used vehicles because they have a stigma of being unreliable. That is not the case, with most used cars lasting for years before needing any work done.

Disadvantages of Buying a New Car

One thing that most people don’t think of is the disadvantages of buying a new car. They believe that once you get a new car, it’ll run like perfect forever and won’t have any problems. The reality is that modern vehicles have disadvantages too.

1. The Value Drops the Moment You Drive It

The second you take your new car off the lot, the value of the car drops. Many new vehicles come with rebates and incentives that also immediately lower the value of the car. This means that while the car may cost you $30,000, it won’t be worth that the second you drive it off the lot.

In general, a new car will lose 60 percent of its value after five years. That means if you purchased a new car for $20,000, It wouldn’t even be worth $10,000 after five years. Cars never stop depreciating, but after the five-year mark, the rate of decline slows down.

2. New Cars Are Expensive

Owning a car can be very expensive. One of the disadvantages of buying a new car is the upfront price that you’ll have to pay. There’s more to consider than the cost of the vehicle upfront, but that can be daunting by itself.

New cars cost a lot of money, usually in the tens of thousands of dollars. Add to that the interest cost of a loan and finance charges, and you could end up spending a tremendous chunk of your income on a new vehicle.

3. Insurance Is a Killer

The cost to insure a new car is based upon the value of that car. While the value continually decreases, your insurance does not go down as fast. If you’re carrying a note on the vehicle, you’ll have to pay for full coverage insurance, even if you don’t want or need it.

The average monthly premium for a new vehicle can reach as high as $136. That comes out to over a thousand dollars a year that you’re spending on insurance alone. Insuring an older car can cost less than half that.

4. Model and Year Dependability

Car manufacturers are always adding and changing things on their new line ups every year. This can be a great benefit, but there’s something that most dealerships won’t tell you about. A harsh reality of the car market is that not all years and models are made as well as others.

New lines of vehicles and modified older ones can have reliability problems. While many cars undergo various tests, that doesn’t mean you’ll get one that could pass those tests. With the addition of so much digital technology, the potential problems increase exponentially.

While a used car has reliable data from consumer reporting groups and reviews on dependability and performance, you won’t have the same luxury with a new vehicle. The reviews that come out have been paid for and don’t always reflect the quality of the car you’ll get.

5. The Cost to Tax and Title Your Vehicle

The cost of registering a vehicle varies based on state, but one thing that is true in every state is that the higher the price, the more taxes you have to pay. When you go to renew your tag, it will cost you more money.

Some states even require that you pay tax on a vehicle you didn’t purchase in their state to get it tagged for that state. This means that the phantom costs of a new vehicle can be increased at every step of the car ownership process.

6. New Cars Take A Long Time To Pay Off

Paying off a car loan that is worth $20 or $30 thousand will take you far more time than paying off a loan for a few thousand dollars. Most car loans are made out to be paid back in five to seven years. This means that you could be paying for that new car from the time your kid is in 5th grade until they graduate high school.

Having a lot of debt will also make you less likely to be able to get another loan. If you want to buy a house or do anything that requires a loan, you’re going to have more trouble with a massive car loan out.

Buying A Used Car

A lot of people dream of buying new cars. This has been true for decades, for about as long as cars have been around.  For most of us, however, buying used cars tends to be a better investment and cost us a lot less.

Used cars used to have a bad reputation because of dependability, but since the early 2000s, cars are more reliable than ever. That reliability does not magically go away because the car is resold. You can benefit from the same modern reliability from a vehicle that is ten years old or more.

Don’t Be Fooled By The New Car Shine

The disadvantages of buying a new car are many, yet there are some advantages. Don’t be fooled, however, into thinking that you’re going to be coming out ahead. You won’t.

Do your research and purchase a car from a year that is dependable and well maintained. Saddling yourself with almost a decade of debt doesn’t have to be the price of owning a vehicle.

How CBD Oil is made: The Ultimate Ethanol Extraction Guide

Recent medical research shows that Cannabinoid (CBD) has the potential to ease symptoms of various ailments such as cancer, arthritis, and multiple sclerosis and more. CBD, which is one of the 85 different compounds that naturally occur in a cannabis plant, is growing in popularity for its medical applications.

CBD products act as:

  • Antioxidants
  • Antipsychotics
  • Anticonvulsants
  • Anti-inflammatories

The users cannot gain these benefits from just buying a hemp plant from a supplier. The compound that offers these excellent benefits must be extracted and transformed into a consumable product by a professional.

Ethanol extraction is one of the best methods to extract CBD oils.

How Ethanol Extraction Process Works

The ethanol extraction method involves introducing a solvent (ethanol) to the hemp plant to extract the cannabinoid. Ethanol then helps dissolves the natural chlorophyll of the hemp plant along with essential oils and cannabinoids. This results in a green-colored CBD oil. A simple filtering process helps remove the green discoloration.

Additional steps after extraction

The CBD extract must pass through a few other processes before it is ready for pet and human consumption.

  • Decarboxylation

This is the process that helps activate CBD oil. Before this process is done, the extract is still in an inactive form, and the CBD and THC present in the plant haven’t reached their full potential.

These phytocannabinoids are in an acidic state, which is better known as cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) and tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA). The elements must pass through the decarboxylation process to make the inactive components active and get a high-quality end-product.

  • Winterization

Winterization is the process used to remove unwanted fatty acids, chlorophyll, plant materials, terpenes, and cannabinoids found in the CBD extract. This act helps dissolve non-polar substances (such as hash oil) into a polar substance (in most cases, ethanol) at sub-zero temperatures.

The process forces lipids (fatty acids) and waxes from the crude extract to the uppermost part of the mixture. Then, they are removed through a simple filtration process.

Downsides of Ethanol Extraction

Ethanol readily mixes with water which breaks down water-soluble molecules such as chlorophyll. Unfortunately, chlorophyll is one major “undesirable” ingredient. The ethanol extraction method can produce a green, grassy product which is also undesirable.

Some industry leaders like Capna Sytems have invented ways to reduce the need for additional processes during the ethanol extraction method. For example, by using multiple ethanol extractions, they mitigate the presence of chlorophyll among other undesirables.

Why Ethanol Extraction is the Safest Method

According to the FDA, ethanol is the safest method of extraction and is already being used in the extraction of many other conventional medicines and foods.

The main aim of extraction is to produce cannabinoids that are not just pure but also highly concentrated for pet and human consumption. Unlike other methods of extraction, ethanol extraction provides a high-quality end product with up to 99% purity. Also, it is one of the cheapest and most efficient methods available.
