How to Go Back to Nature with a Fun Camping Trip

With our lives increasingly being led in fast-paced urban environments, with digital communications and social media being a large part of our lives, it’s perhaps unsurprising that many people are choosing to log-off, switch off, and head into nature for some peace and tranquility, whether this is in eight person tents or in single person tents. It’s on these trips that you can rediscover yourself, find peace, and reset for the weeks ahead. As such, this guide is concerned with your wellbeing and enjoyment on such trips into the unknown – pushing you to the camping trip of your dreams.

Pack Light

The impressive thing about serial campers is just how little they take. They know that the secret to a warm night’s sleep is as much about the quality of the fire they make as the quality of the sleeping bag they pack – and that thermals are a lot more efficient at keeping you warm than your biggest, fluffiest jumper. So, the tip here is to pack efficiently, and to pack light. Take only what you know you’ll need. Don’t lug lots of heavy things into the woods, only to lug them back the next day. Enjoy being free of possessions and stripping your life back to its essential elements – it’s all part of the fun.

The Gear

Still, you will need some gear to truly appreciate the natural world and to make your experience of nature magical and enduringly memorable. One of the key elements of this is your fire-lighting equipment, and here you should consider using Ferro Rods: an old-school way to light a fire. Meanwhile, a small knife can be useful for sharpening sticks and helping to curate your wilderness home, and some simple cooking equipment – like a mug for tea and coffee, and a plate for the sausages and marshmallows you hold over the fire – are other great additions to you camping gear.

Camping Spots

If you’re new to camping, you may not be well aware of the kinds of spots that are best for camping. Being by a water source can be romantic, but it’s also where flies, mosquitos and other creepy crawlies are most likely to gather. If you’re by the sea, bear in mind the changing tide and how it can raise the water level to flood your tent, even if you’re set far back from the shore. In fact, there general tip here is to camp on high ground, and under a tree for shelter from the worst of the rain – it’s the best way to stay safe and comfortable.

Enjoy Freedom

This is your trip to reconnect with nature: don’t ruin it by constantly updating your social media, by taking a tablet to watch a film in bed, or by worrying about the world you’ve left behind. Instead, enjoy the freedom that a brief stay in nature can present in your life: dance around the campfire, or go running through a forest, along a beach, or into hills in giddy glee. It’s a wonderful experience – and one you should maximize in your time in nature.

There you have it: your guide to a ‘back-to-nature’ camping trip.

How Can Medical Malpractice Affect You?

Unfortunately, sometimes in life accidents happen and mistakes are made. The medical industry is no different, and although the vast majority of times you go into hospital, you will receive top rate care, there are times when medical practitioners make mistakes.

In 2013, over $3 billion was spent settling medical malpractice suits in the US. This is a staggering amount of money, but it reflects the huge impact medical negligence can have on a person’s life.

So, what is medical malpractice, and how can it affect you?

What is Medical Malpractice?

Medical malpractice is when a healthcare provider fails to meet established healthcare standards. This can be through negligence, poor communication, or diagnostic errors, but all can lead to increased suffering for a patient.

In the medical industry, small errors can have big consequences, and any mistakes can severely impact the quality of life of the patient. As a result, there can often be high levels of compensation for medical malpractice suits, leading to the figure of $3 billion being spent on medical malpractice suits in 2013.

What Types of Medical Malpractice are There?

Medical malpractice can lead to a variety of different injuries and illnesses. If poor treatment led to you sustaining a new injury or illness, or for your illness or injury to become worse, then you may have suffered from medical malpractice.
Some common malpractice scenarios are:

Inability to diagnose in a timely manner – this can happen in a wide variety of illnesses such as cancer, heart problems, and strokes, among other conditions.

Errors during anaesthesia.

Surgical errors.

Receiving the wrong medicine.

Injuries sustained during labor.

These errors, and many others can have a big impact on your life, or the life of a loved one, and the law is there to make sure you don’t suffer any more than you have to.

What Does a Malpractice Claim Cover?

Medical malpractice can impact your life in many different ways. Not only do you face medical costs, and potentially the cost of future care, but if you’re away from work for a period of time, then you will also lose income.

You shouldn’t have to suffer these costs if you’ve been in an accident that wasn’t your fault, and therefore a medical malpractice claim can cover you for:

Expenses as part of your daily living, such as getting to appointments, equipment to help you with your debility.

Lost earnings during the time you have been unable to work.

Cost of surgeries and medical procedures.

Adaptations to your home.

Cost of future care.

Future earnings you might lose because you are not able to work.

Do I Need a Lawyer?

An experienced lawyer can help put your mind at ease that you have a professional looking after your case. Filing a successful medical malpractice case isn’t straight forward and your chances of being successful are much greater if you have a lawyer on your side.
With an attorney looking after the legal side of things for you, you can concentrate on your recovery and getting better.

6 Tips for Serving Alcohol at Your New Year’s Eve Party

Saying good-bye to an old year and welcoming in a new year full of possibilities is a great occasion to pull out your cocktail glasses and favorite cocktail recipes. Whether you insist that your guests dress in their best for your party or your focus is on comfort and a friendly gathering, there are several things you can do to make sure everyone is having a great time.

One: Arrange Rides Ahead of Time

When you plan a party knowing that you’re serving a lot of alcohol, plan ahead. Make sure you have your phone fully charged and that you’ve saved the numbers to your favorite cab companies. You may want to book a cab or two ahead of time unless you don’t mind having a guest crash at your home overnight.

Two: Choose One or Two Cocktails

Serving a full bar can quickly become very expensive. When you want to serve cocktails, limit your offerings to one or two drinks. If guests want something else, you could have wine and beer available. Keep things fun by offering an array of unique and festive garnishes.

Three: Serve Food

A sweet cocktail is a fun way to help your guests get comfortable but serving them in addition to some fun snacks or a meal is a good way to save money and cut down on the next day’s hangovers. A full range of appetizers or hors d’oeuvres can reduce the amount of alcohol you go through and may prevent guests from becoming too inebriated.

Four: Figure Out How Much Alcohol You Need

Your New Year’s party will come to an unhappy end if you run out of food and drinks. Make sure you have plenty of alcohol by considering how many people will attend, how long the party should last, and whether the drinks are the primary focus or just a side attraction. As you make your calculations, give yourself a bit of wiggle room by getting extra ingredients.

Five: Establish Limits

It’s a good idea to avoid becoming very drunk yourself, so you’re able to recognize if one of your guests is making dangerous decisions. You may need to find rides for guests or make decisions about whether a guest should continue drinking. At some point in the night, stop serving your New Years Eve cocktails and switch to soft drinks, tea, or coffee. You may want to hire a professional bartender to help you with this part of the night.

Six: Brush Up on Local Laws

Even if you’re serving alcohol in your home, there are laws that could affect you. Make sure you’re familiar with liquor licensing and service laws in your area. If you’re not sure where to find information about these laws, contact your insurance provider. Protect yourself from “dram shop liability” or social host liability. If you serve alcohol and one of your guests injures someone else, you could be held responsible.

Hosting a party to celebrate a brand-new year is a great way to get your friends and family together. Make sure everyone enjoys themselves and gets home safely by choosing a good selection of drinks and food and by considering the safety of your guests.
