Mustard – Ballin’

10 Summers/Interscope Records is pleased to announce that label CEO and GRAMMY Award-winning artist/producer Mustard has catapulted back to the top of the charts with “Ballin’,” featuring soulful, hip-hop crooner, Roddy Ricch. The infectious, bounce-heavy single is now #1 at Urban Radio and has officially been certified Platinum by the RIAA.

The third official release from Mustard’s Gold-certified Perfect Ten album, “Ballin’” is simultaneously  #4 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, #8 on Rhythmic and #2 on the Rap Airplay chart. Over on Billboard, the song is #20 on the Hot 100, #9 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and #9 on the mag’s Rhythmic Airplay chart. Last week, “Ballin’” picked up a GRAMMY nomination for “Best/Rap Sung Performance.”

Since its release this past summer, the song has also been streamed more than 260 million times, and the accompanying music video, directed by Arrad, has been viewed 33 million times. It is Mustard’s second biggest record ever, after “Pure Water,” which was certified double platinum last month. Meanwhile, the album, Perfect Ten, has a global consumption of 900, 000 units.

Mustard and his 10 Summers business partner/personal manager, Meko Yohannes, were recently included on Billboard magazine’s annual R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players list for their far-reaching influence and hitmaking consistency in the urban music sector and beyond. On December 12, Mustard will perform at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco.

The single “Ballin’” featuring Roddy Ricch and the critically acclaimed Perfect Ten album are available on all digital retailers via 10 Summers/Interscope Records.

MAGNETO’S NEW MISSION

MAGNETO UNDERTAKES A NEW MISSION IN HICKMAN AND OLIVER’S GIANT-SIZE X-MEN

The artist-focused X-Men series continues in March with a tale about the master of magnetism!

When Giant-Size X-Men hits stands next year, X-Men fans will get to see Jonathan Hickman’s bold vision for mutantkind unfold in epic adventures told by the industry’s most acclaimed artists. These large-scale but standalone stories will be specifically designed to highlight the artist’s talents, and each issue will focus on a specific character. This March, Hickman will team up with legendary artist Ben Oliver to turn the spotlight on the master of magnetism, Magneto!

Created by Stan Lee himself, Magneto’s been a fixture in the X-Men mythos since the very beginning. Although he debuted in 1963’s X-MEN #1 as the X-Men’s premiere super villain, he eventually became one of their fiercest members. Under Chris Claremont’s pen, Magneto was equipped with a tragic backstory, shedding light on his motivations and developing him into one of the most complex characters in the Marvel Universe. An unrelenting champion for mutantkind, Magneto once again finds himself leading a mutant nation, but this time, he has all of mutantkind including the X-Men standing at his side. Determined to make this new dream of Krakoa prosper, Magneto must now make dealings with his former sworn enemy— humanity!

Ben Oliver, known for his seminal work on ULTIMATE X-MEN, is the perfect artist to capture the emotion behind Magneto’s new role as mutant ambassador. “It’s been many years since I last worked on an X-Men related project, and I couldn’t be happier than to be working with Jonathan,” Oliver said. “I’ve long been a fan of Jonathan’s work, and Magneto as a character, so to collaborate on this project is fantastic.”

GIANT-SIZE X-MEN: MAGNETO will be the second of five essential one-shots with the first, GIANT-SIZE X-MEN: JEAN GREY AND EMMA FROST debuting in February. Uniting Jonathan Hickman with the best artists in the industry, these stories are destined to be instant classics that fans won’t want to miss! Stay tuned for upcoming announcements about more GIANT-SIZE X-MEN issues coming your way next year and which of your favorite artists will be showcased next!

How to Save Money For What You Really Want

Whether you are looking to save money in order to clear your debt, purchase a new car, put a deposit down on a new home, stage the perfect wedding,or go on the vacation of a lifetime, these simple budgeting tips will help you save money. It might seem difficult at first, but the key is to look at it as a spending plan rather than a restrictive budget. You will not be quitting spending completely, instead you will be prioritizing some financial goals over others.

Make a Budget

A popular budget that many people use to save money is the 50/30/20 budget.

  • 50% of your post-tax income is used for necessities.
  • 30% is devoted to things you want.
  • 20% is stowed away in savings.

If you stick to this spending plan, you should be able to save a lot of money over the course of a year.

Use Digital Tools

There are lots of apps out there to help you budget. Some banks automatically transfer money from your checking account to your savings account each time you spend. You will not even notice that the money is gone until you start to see your savings grow. This is great because it allows you to save money with the minimum amount of effort.

Collect Your Change

Empty your pockets when you get home each day and put the coins in a money box. Checking down underneath the cushions on the sofa, or underneath your car seat are also great ways to help fill your pot.

Cut Down on Expensive Clothes

It is possible to spend vast amounts of money keeping up with the latest trends in fashion. However, the clothes are often overpriced and tend to go out of style very quickly. It is okay to splurge on something you really love occasionally, but for the most part you can get high quality clothing at sites like this for a fraction of the cost.

Plan Major Purchases

Always plan to make major purchases, such as household appliances, furniture, computer equipment or cars, during annual sale periods. Post-Christmas, January sales and Black Friday events are perfect for this. Another underappreciated tip is to wait two days before making a purchase, even after you have decided on which product you are going to buy. This helps prevent buyer’s remorse.

Remain a Stranger to Online Stores

A great way to limit the amount of money you spend online is to opt out of creating online shopping accounts. You are much less likely to make impulse buys if you are required to go through the arduous process of filling out all of your personal data and billing information each time you click through to the online checkout.

Make Your Own Gifts

The cost of buying birthday, Christmas, anniversary, and wedding presents for all the various people in your life can really add up fast. It is not only much more economical, but it is usually seen as more thoughtful and caring to make your own gifts to give to loved ones. Even if you don’t spend a lot of time creating arts and crafts, sites like this can give you the inspiration you need to make a great gift.

REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL

returns TUESDAY, NOV. 26 at a special time (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT) exclusively on HBO

Excerpts from the Real Sports segment “Sidelined” HERE.

Emily Gervais of Weymouth Mass., is part of a trend -– kids pushing themselves harder and harder in the hyper competitive world of youth sports – picking a single sport at a very young age – then playing it hours a day, virtually every day of the year – until their body simply gives out.

Dr. Min Kocher at Boston Children’s hospital had seen so many kids just like Emily Gervais (a teenage soccer player now retired after twice tearing the ACL) that he wanted to find out if the same thing was happening in the rest of the country.

So he gathered data from hospitals all over the US … and what he found was remarkable. The number of ACL reconstruction on children and adolescents had spiked nearly five times in just a decade.

It’s all part of a trend Real Sports has been reporting on for the last three years … the professionalization of youth sports … a $19 billion dollar industry … fueled by kids and their parents pursuing athletic achievement at seemingly any cost.

Less well known are the physical costs as young people determined to keep up with the competition are picking a single sport at a very young age then playing it several hours a day, virtually every day of the year.  Until their body simply gives out.

Dr. Nirav Pandya is a surgeon at the University of California/San Francisco. He says that the number of surgeries he does on child athletes has doubled in just the last five years… but he doesn’t sound happy about all the extra business.

The question is: What will it take to change an American youth sports system that produces so many sad outcomes – major injuries that impact and sideline so many young athletes?

Dr. Neeru Jayanthi at Emory University in Atlanta  says that it’s time for parents and sports administrators to act.  That this is a public health crisis.  And that he’s got the numbers to prove it.

DR. NEERU JAYANTHI: “We have data that’s quite clear that you’re more than twice as likely not only to just get injured, but to get a serious overuse injury if you specialize in sports.”

HBO’s JON FRANKEL: “That seems to be a pretty clear and easy data point to explain to somebody. That if you let your kid specialize in one sport and play season after season, you’re more than twice as likely to get an overuse injury.”

DR. NEERU JAYANTHI : “Yes. Why do we wear seatbelts? Why do we stop smoking? We have data. We now have data on this.”

Dr. Jayanthi presented his research this month at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, stating that the sad truth is that elite-level youth sports is not something that improves your health today.

*Youth Sports Injuries. The professionalization of youth sports pushes more kids than ever before to train year-round in a single sport. And with that pressure has ignited an epidemic across the country – a spike in overuse injuries and orthopedic surgeries performed on children as young as eight. Correspondent Jon Frankel reports on the uptick, such as ACL tears and stress fractures, and how they are hampering children’s future health at an early age.

Spine Health at Holiday Dinner

1. Maintain good posture the entire time. Proper digestion only occurs when we are sitting up straight. Good posture is defined as ears aligned with the shoulders and the “angel wings,” or the shoulder blades, retracted. In proper alignment, spinal stress is diminished. Recent studies show that gastric emptying is significantly delayed in the supine position when compared to a sitting position.

Furthermore, “If you’re slouched over your plate, food cannot travel to the stomach in time for your body to tell your brain it’s getting full; it can take twice as long; thus, causing you to eat twice as much leaving you full and tired.

2. A brief family meditation for peace and happiness. Coming back together as a family means leaving many personal worlds of happiness, sadness and development behind. Take time out to honor and recognize this transition. Sit quietly together, hold hands and briefly recognize the personal worlds. Then state an intention to have a great family get together.

Dr. Ken says: Meditation is the process of calming the body and mind while allowing a connection with the universe. We are all so busy with our day-to-day activities and thoughts that we lose track of our goals, our vision, and our life plan. This non-stop grind prevents us from being thoughtful and performing the tasks necessary for our well-being and body maintenance.

3. Deep Belly Breathing: Deep belly breathing helps with digestion of food by enhancing motion of the belly and its food contents. Deeper yet though it serves to improve the motion of the spinal segments, spinal cord and nerve roots, and it increases the cerebrospinal fluid motion and distribution. Deep breathing might also decrease the swelling of the deranged spine joints and the nerve roots causing less pain. Deep belly breathing in itself will help you to feel better.

Dr. Ken says, “A deep breath of clean fresh air is as soothing to the body as a large glass of cool water on a hot summer day,” so place your hands on your belly and breathe deeply to feel your belly move. Repeat this all day.

4. Small bites and small breaks will allow you to enjoy a steady-paced meal without needing to slow down or stop eating entirely. Take small bites of the highly caloric sides like mashed potatoes, stuffing and cheesy casseroles, but load up your fork with Turkey and string beans. Take a 5-minute break between each helping to allow your stomach to catch up with your eyes.

5. Chat, “Take time out to engage in and enjoy the conversations around the table. When you are actively engaged and fully involved in a fulfilling conversation then you spend less time eating and more time feeling externally better. The craving for food and internal satisfaction diminishes” Ask each person how they are doing. Find out about their little inner workings in life. Your family will manifest happiness, and then you become happier leaving you with less of a desire to binge.

6. Savor your desserts. Use a demitasse spoon to eat. This spoon is diminutive, smaller than a teaspoon. Allow the dessert to sit on your tongue for a minute. Allow the two to 8 thousand taste buds on your tongue to delight in the vanilla or chocolate, cinnamon, and other contents. Feel the texture and temperature of each bite. Train your taste buds to enjoy and delight in the taste and textures. Otherwise you become involved in volume consumption. This is where you eat so much to feel that your belly is full.

Dr. Ken says, “Evening out the trajectory of a meal that can last 3-4 hours takes some purposeful technique. On average, it takes between 12-14 minutes for our bodies to recognize we’re full. Keeping this in mind, begin your dinner with small thoughtful fork-full and pay attention to your body’s signals. It will tell you when to take a break, so you can save room for dessert!

7. Mini Chair Exercises (bends and twists) help you keep your blood pumping and metabolism working. Bending to the right or left (as if you were picking up a fork you dropped) and sideways twists (like you’re greeting a guest behind you) are two small, but effective ways to help your body digest.

Dr. Ken says, “Small range-of-motion exercises help ensure your body’s digestive functions keep up with your food in-take and your blood pressure remains stable. This will help ward off headaches, cramps and gas at the dinner table.

8. After Dinner Walk. Schedule a family walk after dinner. Walking helps digestion of food and builds a togetherness of the tribe. It is a great family routine to build. People start to feel better because the spine joints and the spinal nerves start moving with walking. One of the fastest ways to develop back or neck pain is to remain stagnant. When the spine joints and the spinal nerves do not move, then they can cause pain.

Tech Companies To Watch Out For In The Next Year

By now we should all be familiar with the pace of technology, one of the last great frontiers for the entrepreneur. Even though it doesn’t occur to us in the moment, new innovations continue to shape our world from year to year.

Compare the year 2020 to the turn of the century. In the first two decades of the 21st century, we’ve gotten used to social media, 3D printing, blockchains, eBooks, CRISPR gene editing, online streaming video and the wide-scale adoption of mobile phones. Likewise, we started the new millennium not knowing the names of Facebook, Spotify, YouTube, Uber, AirBnB or Twitter.

What do the coming years bring? Our best economic and technological forecasters have picked a few rising stars in tech innovation who just might sculpt the next horizon in industry.

StartApp

We’ve all heard of marketing companies collecting data on mobile users to use as research on user behavior, but StartApp simply has more data than anybody else. Tapping a billion active mobile users every month across 350K apps, StartApp anonymously logs this user data and then packages it for sale to companies to help them make better decisions about development, user interface design, and marketing. Having grown from $200K to $37 million in revenue, StartApp is poised to be the Amazon of customer service information.

Nauto

While we were all anticipating the advent of driverless cars, still a hazy future promise, it occurred to our AI scientists that the experience of driving just isn’t documented enough to teach it to a robot. Nauto is one company helping to fix that, by building an autonomous driving data platform. Using cameras both exterior and interior, Nauto systems track both the road conditions and obstacles and the driver’s reactions, showing us what we respond to and how fast. It’s also aimed at reducing driver distraction and fatigue. With over $1 million in investor funding raised so far, the company aims first to enable better driver-assistance technology, before aiming at removing the need for a driver completely.

Evisort

Evisort is simple to explain: It’s “Google for contracts.” Except, rather than just automating text search, it’s an expert system trained for the legal profession, allowing it to parse out key dates, names, provisions, limitations, dollar amounts and legal clauses. This turns out to be a huge part of the day for anybody working in the legal profession, where the average lawyer might handle dozens of contracts numbering 30 pages or more per week. Human contract review is costly, time-consuming, and prone to errors, so an automated AI for contract management is something every legal worker wants. Evisort has raised over $5 million in investor funding and been praised in both Forbes and Harvard Law Review.

CloudBeds

The hospitality industry has been late to the party of industries changed by technology, but its turn has come. CloudBeds is a smart business management software for hotels, with an end-to-end platform that handles the unique challenges of property management and booking together with business management. The result is that hotels run better and make more money. Hotels, being a future-proof industry that online commerce can’t replace, are going to be around for a long time, and CloudBeds raising $20 million in investor funding shows that they’re going to be offering something every hotel wants.

SnapChat

The most senior member on this list, SnapChat has been in business for most of the 2010s, but it’s the social network platform with the brightest future. Just as Facebook took the crown from MySpace, everyone’s been counting the days until Facebook finds itself left behind by the next generation of web users. But which social network will it be? With a user base approaching 210 million people across 22 languages, SnapChat is a social network geared for the mobile platform and more favored by younger generations.

Conclusions…

Much of the technology in recent years is driven by the advent of large data and deep learning methods in artificial intelligence. There are many more industries that can be innovated to the same degree that the above list has been – aspiring entrepreneurs take note!

Brittany Howard × Jimmy Kimmel

“History Repeats,” From Howard’s Debut Solo Album, Jaime, Nominated For Two GRAMMY Awards – Best Rock Performance And Best Rock Song

Howard Will Also Perform On “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah”

On December 4 And “TODAY Show” On December 5

Brittany Howard will celebrate her two new GRAMMY nominations with a trio of television performances. Tune in tonight to see her perform on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” She’ll visit “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” on Wednesday, December 4. On Thursday, December 5, Howard will perform on “TODAY Show” in the 8:00 AM hour and also during “3rd Hour TODAY.”

“History Repeats” – from her debut solo album, Jaime – has been nominated in two GRAMMY categories: Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song, bringing her total career nominations to 11. The New York Times observed, “‘History Repeats,’ the densely layered funk song that opens the album, links personal neuroses – recurring kinds of self-destructive relationships – and societal patterns.” NPR praised the track as “a swirling, punch-drunk and funk rumination on the ways repeated mistakes can hold us back.” Afropunk hailed it as “an instant anthem….and a metaphor for the human condition.”

Jaime, available HERE, was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone, MOJO and Q. “Stay High,” the album’s first single, spent three weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart. Howard –who has performed everywhere from the Obama White House to the main stage at Lollapalooza, where she sang with Paul McCartney at his invitation – wrapped up her North American headline tour last week with performances at The Fillmore in San Francisco and the Fox Theater in Oakland.
