The Labelle Foundation

The Australians have given us so much…Nicole Kidman, Koalas, UGG Boots and NOW…they have given us the 2020 Training Mate Calendar. Training Mate has paired with The Labelle Foundation to show off their “cheeky” humor *and cheeks* to benefit the dog rescue

The Labelle Foundation is a Los Angeles foster based animal rescue devoted to rescuing, rehabilitating, advocating for dogs. Their goal is to help the animals they assist find perfect forever families. The organization also specializes in neonatal orphans and sick or special need medical puppies.

Training Mate is owned and operated by “Revenge Body” trainer Luke Milton who makes an appearance in the calendar. Luke’s fitness career began as a professional Rugby player in Australia where he was lucky enough to play for his country. After retiring from Rugby, Luke founded Training Mate in Sydney, Australia and quickly established himself as a leader in the fitness community. He is now a celebrity trainer here in Los Angeles and lives by the belief that a healthy lifestyle is a combination of physical, social and mental health.

100% of the profits from the Training Mate calendar will benefit The Labelle Foundation.

JAPAN’S TOP FESTIVALS IN 2020

With the arrival of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo next summer, Japan is preparing for record numbers of tourists from around the world in 2020. Despite the high number of tourists heading to Japan, Japanese matsuri, or festivals, offer travelers an opportunity to escape the crowds and experience Japan’s rich cultural heritage alongside locals. A number of the country’s top matsuri will take place over the summer, allowing travelers heading to Japan for the Olympic and Paralympic Games an opportunity to experience Japanese traditions while traveling outside of Tokyo.

Hifuri Kamakura Festival, Akita Prefecture, Tohoku

Taking place in the small farming town of Kakunodate, the Hifuri Kamakura Festival celebrates the Lunar New Year. Locals and tourists alike take part in the purification ritual, which involves twirling basketball-sized sacks of coal composed of rice straw above the head with rope. This tradition originated as a means for locals to rid themselves of evil spirits that may plague the year’s harvest, but today, the festival offers an opportunity for old friends and neighbors to catch up.

Kyokusui no Utage, Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu

Held at the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, this annual festival recreates an aristocratic tradition from the Heian period. Poets dressed in Heian-style 12-layer kimonos sit amongst plum trees at the shrine and compose poems on narrow strips of paper, all while sipping from cups of sake that can be found floating down a man-made stream in the shrine’s garden. The poems are read at a recital later in the day.

Ningen Shogi, Yamagata Prefecture, Tohoku

90% of Japanese chess pieces, or shogi, are produced in the city of Tendo. Every year, as the cherry blossoms bloom, locals and travelers gather to watch a human chess game, or shogi battle, in Maizuru Park, where two professional chess players compete with humans dressed as samurai in place of chess pieces. The festival also features taiko (Japanese drum) performances and delicious local food specialties like yakisoba noodles and takoyaki fish balls.

Noboribetsu Hell Festival, Hokkaido

Noboribetsu is home to the famous Jigokudani, or “Hell Valley,” a volcanic crater locals believe resembles “hell on Earth,” due to the steam and boiling water that bubble out of small crevices in the frozen ground from the nearby volcano. This natural phenomenon also inspired the local villagers to start the tradition of the Hell Festival. Dressed up as yukijin, playful demons who protect the nearby hot springs, locals launch 24 fireworks into the air while three demons ritualistically beat drums.

The Gujo Odori Dance Festival, Gifu Prefecture, Chubu

Based in the small riverside town of Gujo-Hachiman, locals and tourists dance together in a big circle all through the night to commemorate their ancestors.

July 13-September 7, 2020

Lotus Festival, Miyagi Prefecture, Tohoku

Instead of cherry blossoms, pink lotuses are the star of Lake Izunuma-Uchinuma, which transforms into a floral paradise each summer. The lake is so full of the perennials that visitors can barely see the water’s surface. Lake Izunuma Uchinuma is an incredibly popular destination for couples in the summer as travelers can take a romantic boat ride through the lotus blossoms.

Saijo Festival, Ehime Prefecture, Shikoku

A spectacle of lights, the Saijo Festival is a breathtaking festival with the main attraction being Danjiri, giant wooden floats, and mikoshi, portable shrines. The main event takes place on October 16, when the Danjiri are assembled into a line on the river banks, allowing for the mikoshi to be moved across the banks to the Isono Shrine.

New Year’s Wine Resolutions

By Pallavi Gupta

Did you line up your new year’s resolutions? If not, here is one for you. Many think that New Year’s resolutions are all about diets, kicking out a few bad habits, or even changing wardrobes. Whatever it is, you are planning to commit, ensure to follow your heart.

Honestly, I hardly make it to the third month with my resolutions. And this is no reason to beat me up. However, this year, I am sure I will commit till the last month with my new year’s wine resolutions. For a wine enthusiast, these are the New Year’s resolutions one would love to undertake. Only focussing on keeping fit, is not a bad thing, but do you know wine can help you stay healthy? Here’s I am going to share with you in this wine article. The main intention behind these is pleasureful drinking rather than depriving yourself of your next pop-up.

Don’t Go for Appearance

Here’s the first mistake that most wine lovers make. Good wine would not be all about appearance. Begin next year by approaching a bottle of wine soberly. Focus on its content, not the bottle. You should look beyond the aesthetically pleasing label and read the details on the wine. Check out for three aspects of wine that makes it unique. These are region, grape, and producer. With these, you can go ahead with building your preferences based on the event or your emotions. Some research will help you make your wine experience pleasant throughout the year.

Learn Wine Terminology

In wine tasting, the distressful thing is tasting wine without any idea of basic wine terminology. If you are not conversant with wine terms such as terroir, Bacchus, decant, Acidity, etc., you need to make an effort and find out what they mean. It’s tricky especially if you don’t know where to start. Unless you’ve tasted their soils, how else would you know what earthly, or damp forest floor mean? You can simplify by tasting more wine till you make sense of wine vocabulary, or better yet, conduct extensive research to see what they mean. Primarily, this will help you start picking up on various smells and flavors that make up different wines and wines styles. Gradually, you will find yourself using these fancy wine terms to describe your wine.

Become a Wine Experimenter

Make 2020 a wine experiment year. Whether it’s a variety you have never tried or an unfamiliar blend from your locality, you should have room for new wine. If you have the time and resources, travel the world or different region, and sample various wines that you are not familiar with. This year will be more thrilling than scaling a mountain gear-free with a bottle of Moscato, Sangaria, or any variety you haven’t yet tried. Being a wine explorer doesn’t mean that you should abandon your favorite wines, just create more space for a new wine.

Try new wine recipes.

Another way to make this year an exciting one is by finding a recipe with wine as an ingredient and give it a try. You can also have some wine while baking or cooking. Anything can work provided it gives you a new angle of wine experience. You can even seek wine recipes on our blog.

Try some Wine-Food Pairings

Not satisfied yet? Wait, there is more. You can try pairing wine with your favorite foods and see how it pans out. The pairing will expound your wine taste in terms of acidity, tannin, alcohol content and overall how food pairing works. Perfect food wine pairing is achieved by flavors that complement each other. For the ideal match, plan dishes according to wine and not the other way round. This maintains the wine’s purpose on the table, and that is to complement the food.

Try Out Different Wine Glasses

This year, if you’ve not been caring about your wine glass, it’s time you do. You may not know, but the shape of your wineglass affects the overall wine tasting experience. Pairing wine with the right wine glass maintains its original taste. The right wine vessel means the size, shape, and opening. If you got all these right, it would maximize the flavor of the wine. So, start researching the most appropriate wine glasses.

Treat Yourself with Expensive Wine

It’s good that you become extravagant once in a while with your wine. If you’ve been a tightwad while spending a certain amount on a bottle, spoil yourself with some expensive stuff that doubles your usual amount. Who said it isn’t meant for you? Don’t put yourself down and start enjoying the best things life has to offer, including expensive wine. I am sure you will cherish enhancing your wine experience while you elevate your wine status to the next level.

Hold Wine-Tasting Parties

If you love good company when drinking your wine, this year, make it better by organizing and holding a wine tasting party. Invite your close friends and colleagues to your home, do some wine sampling fun. Another way to do this is to ask each one of them to bring different bottles of wine from various regions at different prices as well. You can then taste them all to get an explosion of wine moods and flavors. Make an impression of being the first to introduce them to their new favorite vino.

Be Part of a Wine Club Subscription Service

Any wine lover wants to enjoy their favorite bottle at their convenience anytime and anywhere. Luckily, several wine subscription services offer excellent wine delivery services. This is the best way of having award-winning wines delivered at your door. Sweet Wine Club offers the best wine subscription services with each shipment chosen out of quality wines of San Antonio Winery. You also get to taste different varieties and wine styles like nowhere else.

Chill and Toast more

The best way to enjoy your wine is to hold your wine glass up high to toss for a celebration that life has brought you. Wine tastes better with company, so ensure you have your loved ones and friends as you pour out a bottle of wine. This also ensures an excellent opportunity to relieve stress. Whether it’s just a happy hour, game night, or matching food and wine, make time for people you love, and you will enjoy a swell time as you gulp down your wine.

Final Remarks

By now, your taste buds are looking for the promising year 2020. Whether you are a wine critic or just starting, take time to know your wine as you usher in the year with a new year’s wine resolutions to make the best out of wine. Cheers To The New Year And Please Remember To Drink Responsibly!

Secrets to Maximizing Your Return When Selling Your Car for Scrap

Having a junk car sitting around is like money wasting away on your lawn. Find out here the secrets to maximizing your return when selling a car for scrap.

The average car stays on the road for just 11.8 years. After that, most car owners have to figure out how to get rid of a car that’s worth nothing to a dealership.

Selling a car for scrap is a great way to get rid of cars that just aren’t worth much anymore. But that doesn’t mean you have to settle for a rock-bottom sale price.

Luckily, there are a few easy ways to help you get the best price possible. Here’s what you need to do when selling your car to a scrap buyer.

Understand What Scrap Buyers Look For

Scrap car buyers aren’t looking for the same things a used car dealership is. They don’t really care about how many miles are on the car or whether or not it’s maintained properly. They care about the parts they can sell.

You’ll get more for a car that’s in good physical condition. This means a vehicle that’s not rusted out and doesn’t have a bunch of dents and dings in the doors.

You’ll also get the most from scrap buyers if your car is relatively rare. The less time your make and model was in production, the fewer parts are available on the market. This increases the demand and makes scrap buyers willing to offer you top-dollar.

Unfortunately, this also means they don’t care about the bells and whistles your car has. That 8-disc CD changer or TV screens installed in the headrests won’t impact how much they offer you. They’ll offer you a price based on the weight of the metal components and it’s up to you to take it or leave it.

Sell the Non-Metal Parts

Since your car’s value is set by the amount of metal it has, the best thing you can do is get rid of the non-metal parts. This can be anything from the radio and sound system to the engine and tires.

Put those items up for sale on your own. Use online marketplaces like Craigslist or eBay, and reach out to local mechanics shops to see if they’re interested in your parts.

This will let you get the full amount possible from your car. Remember, scrap buyers aren’t typically interested in the interior of your car.

Use that to your advantage. Sell the items yourself to get the most from your junker.

Get Rid of the Battery

Scrap buyers don’t want your car’s battery and will likely remove it before giving you a quote. You can save yourself time and frustration by removing the battery before contacting the scrap buyer.

Instead of just tossing it in the trash, sell the battery. If it’s in good shape, you may be able to sell it to a private buyer. If it’s not, you may be able to find a mechanic or a battery shop that will pay you for it to recycle it.

This may not add tons to what you get beyond the scrap value of a car, but every penny helps.

Keep the Car Whole

It may be tempting to take the car apart and sell the doors or undamaged panels yourself. But this can hurt the amount you’ll get when you scrap the rest of the car.

This is because scrap buyers base their offers entirely on the weight of the car itself. The more parts that are there, the more you’ll get for the car.

Many companies also prefer to see the car fully assembled. It makes it easier to transport the car and also makes it easier to weigh.

If possible, leave the car fully assembled and only remove the easy-to-access parts inside the car and under the hood. These won’t impact the scrap value.

Get Quotes from Different Scrap Buyers

Different scrap car buyers will offer different prices for your car. This means you’ll want to shop around before you decide to sell your car for scrap.

Get quotes from several buyers and choose the one that offers you the highest price.

Keep in mind that you may want to expand your search for the right buyer. Demand for certain makes and models can vary from city to city. If you’re willing to transport the car a bit farther away from home, you may get a higher price.

If you’re in a pinch, you can always list the car for scrap online. Keep in mind that you probably won’t get the best price possible.

Always Double-Check the Scale

When you’re selling a car for scrap, the price you get comes from the weight of the car. The lighter the car is, the less you’ll receive.

Most buyers are honest and won’t try to cheat you on the offer. But that doesn’t mean that every scrap buyer you work with will do the same.

That’s why it’s always a good idea to double-check the scale before the car gets weighed. When nothing is on it, the scale should register absolutely nothing.

If the display shows any number, request that they zero it out before they weigh your car. This way, you’ll get the amount you’re actually due rather than getting low-balled.

Make Sure You Have the Title

You can’t scrap a car that you don’t own. This means you’ll need to provide proof of the title to the scrap buyer before you can sell it.

Make sure you have the title on-hand before you contact scrap buyers for a quote. If you don’t know where your title is, contact the DMV and see if you can get a new one issued.

If you can’t, some scrap buyers accept previous registrations to prove ownership. This isn’t standard and varies from state to state. If you don’t own the car outright, you won’t be able to sell your car for scrap.

Selling a Car for Scrap Is a Great Way to Make Fast Cash

Selling a car to a dealership is a great option if it’s running. But if you’re stuck with a junker in your yard, scrapping it is the best choice.

Use these tips when selling a car for scrap and you’ll be able to get the highest amount possible.

The internationally breaking singer song-writer has caught the attention of famed publications such as Wonderland, Clash Magazine, and Euphoria Magazine and also Julia Michaels who shared Sody’s track “Maybe It Was Me” on socials.

“What We Had” is a track sure to have an impact – full of reflection, captured by a spine-tingling blend of piano and breathy vocals.

The accompanying live performance video also releases today at 5PM GMT / 12PM EST / 9AM PST featuring Sody in red, surrounded by an all red set and self-accompanying on the piano whilst showcasing her incredible vocal abilities. Click here to watch “What We Had.”

Speaking on the emotionally driven “What We Had,” Sody muses:

“When a relationship comes to an end and you fall out of love, it doesn’t necessarily mean you stop caring for that person. What We Had is acknowledging how special the connection was and admitting somewhat selfishly that you sometimes don’t want your ex sharing your good times with someone else.”

The EP ‘I’m Sorry I’m Not Sorry,’ which will be rounded out with further tracks coming on December 6, includes co-writing credits and production from Sacha Skarbek (Miley Cyrus, Wrecking Ball and Lana Del Rey, Without You), Toby Scott (Little Mix, Gossip) and Frances (Maisie Peters, Jess Glyn) amongst others.

At 12 years old, Sophie Dyson aka Sody was discovered by her manager where her music career began. She spent the next few years honing her song-writing skills and was promptly signed to UMPG in 2016, one of their youngest signings to date.

At 15, came her first offer of a record deal, making the decision to turn it down after realising she wasn’t ready. She released her debut EP ‘Youth’ in 2016, garnering over 4 million streams and has since gained the support of Wonderland, Clash, Line of Best Fit and BBC Introducing.

In the last year, Sody has released a number of tracks including ‘Maybe It Was Me,’ ‘Let You Know,’ ‘Whole (demo),’ ‘I Don’t Know You Anymore,’ and ‘The Bully’. Earlier this year, in support of ‘The Bully,’ Sody passionately advocated for anti-bullying by partnering with UK organisation Ditch The Label and travelled the UK giving talks about her bullying experience in high schools.

An artist on the rise, Sody at the mere age of 19 has had tracks featured on Love Island UK and already amassed over 35 million collective streams.
