DETROIT RAP PROGENY NASAAN DROPS CHAPTER TWO OF VIDEO SERIES TRILOGY

LISTEN TO PART 1 OF NEW EP KISS OF KARMA HERE

ABOUT NASAAN:
The tattoo on the front of Nasaan’s neck is subtle, but its message is loud and clear: “LONER” it reads in all caps. He knows himself well. Unlike many his age, the 20-year-old rapper is reserved, finding comfort in close friends and making music over going to parties or being overly social.

Though he was born to hip-hop legacy (his father is the late Proof from D12), growing up it wasn’t obvious to Nasaan that music would be his life. He was seven when his father died and his mother moved the family around for a few years before settling in Atlanta, where he grew up listening to whatever was on the radio. It was in the back of school buses in middle school, where he and his peers would joke and freestyle, that Nasaan discovered a natural talent for rapping and a passion for hip-hop.

“Around that time Lil’ Wayne had dropped Dedication 4, and it was full of crazy ass metaphors and I thought that was how you were supposed to rap,” he says, reflecting on the moment he decided to start writing rhymes in notebooks. In high school, Nasaan mostly stayed out of trouble and focused on music, eventually choosing to quit the basketball team and his job at Six Flags in order to hone his craft. “I had a phone call with one of my father’s friends, and he told me not to half-ass shit,” he says. When he released his first freestyle “Apple” in high school, a popular fellow student, the now-famed Lil Yachty, shared his praise and boosted Nasaan’s drive. “I fell in love with making music because of the reactions and the emotions I can evoke out of people,” he says. Today, he looks up to the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott: “I make music with a purpose, so I want to do that for others. That feeling is just euphoric.”

Growing up, Nasaan spent his summers in Detroit at his grandmother’s house, an environment candidly depicted on the intro track to his Def Jam debut, Kiss of Karma. Detroit, he says, has always welcomed him, and his ties to the city run deep. His father’s old friends Mr. Porter, Eminem and Royce da 5’9” act as mentors to him today: “I pick their brains and learn as much as I can just to stay a step ahead or above the competition. They always stress working hard on me.”

An introvert, Nasaan makes music that is personal without giving too much away. Metaphors abound and his songs take on a narrative structure. He says he studied everything to be the best (specifically Complex’s best albums lists), and it’s clear. Today, Nasaan is focused on “conjuring and solidifying” a sound unique to him, and making his mark on the culture. “I don’t want anyone to blame lineage or relationships for my accolades or success because I took time out, I studied this shit, I really practice my craft on the daily. I want me to be the reason for everything.”

FDA Accelerates E-Cigarette Review For New Rules

By Eric Van Buskirk

Suorin Air Starter Kit

In 2016, the Food and Drug Administration was expanded to regulate tobacco as well as nicotine products, including cigars and e-cigarettes. A year later, the FDA issued an ultimatum to manufacturers: provide sufficient information to justify the continued circulation of your tobacco and nicotine products on the market, and do so by May 2022.

The deadline was initially set in order to provide manufacturers ample time to produce studies and research against the charge that their products were both aimed at and increasingly consumed by American teenagers. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and their partners — responsible in large part for pressuring the FDA into action — immediately challenged the timeline, positing that such a long waiting period was unacceptable.

AAP President and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics Kyle E. Yasuda, M.D. was quoted as saying, “the FDA oversight over the sales and marketing of these harmful products has languished for too long. With the epidemic of e-cigarette use by teens, it is incumbent on the FDA to act expeditiously to hold manufacturers accountable for products that contain nicotine and harmful chemicals.”

In March 2018, the AAP as well as the American Cancer Society, Cancer Action Network, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, Truth Initiative and five pediatricians sued the FDA, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the heads of both agencies. According to the suit, the coalition intended to take action against the FDA and HHS not only for their decision to provide manufacturers with such a generous grace period, but for allowing them to continue selling their products until the scheduled date of review.

Finally, in May this year, U.S. District Judge Paul W. Grimm of Maryland ruled in favor of the AAP and its partners, aiming pointed statements at the FDA in the process. “Arguably, the five-year compliance safe-harbor has allowed the manufacturers enough time to attract new, young users and get them addicted to nicotine before any of their products, labels, or flavors are pulled from the market, at which time the youth are likely to switch to one of the other thousands of tobacco products that are approved — results entirely contrary to the express purpose of the Tobacco Control Act,” he wrote.

Companies and manufacturers now have ten months before the FDA is set to begin their review in May 2020. Grimm’s remarks are worth exploring in detail, as there is recent data that bears out his point. A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that vaping rates among high schoolers and middle schoolers increased by 78% and 48% respectively over 2017 — just one year of the six-year grace period originally afforded to cigar and e-cigarette manufacturers by the FDA.

An Accelerated Review & Its Impact on E-Cigarette Manufacturers

For e-cigarette giant Juul and tobacco juggernauts Philip Morris International, Imperial Brands and Altria, the next ten months will be a battle to continue selling their Juul e-cig and iQOS systems — but it’s a battle they’re confident they can win. Other manufacturers like Sourin Air, who really more on online sales, are a bit less concerned about sales since online purchases have getter systems in place to prevent under-age buying.

“We are secure in the content and quality of our application for May,” stated Juul spokesperson Ted Kwong in an interview with Forbes. “Our growing body of evidence as well as our industry-leading actions to combat underage access and use will ensure adult smokers continue to have a true alternative to cigarettes, the leading cause of preventable death worldwide.”

Representatives from the so-called “tobacco Big Five” expressed similar convictions.

For smaller companies and e-cigarette manufacturers, the FDA’s accelerated review represents an entirely different struggle. Until 2016, the vaping industry as a whole had gone largely unregulated, and products were able to enter the market without needing FDA approval. The processes of preparing applications, litigating their cases and abiding the coming surge of new regulations is very likely to decimate the profitability of smaller e-cigarette operations. For them, the next ten months will be a struggle for their continued existence.

Ironically, it may very well be the case that Juul — which is estimated to control three fourths of the e-cigarette market — and the tobacco Big Five will come away the biggest winners by the end the FDA’s accelerated review.

Esqapes

On July 5th, Esqapes opened the world’s first virtual reality massage center. The Esqapes Immersive Relaxation Center, located at 5757 Wilshire Blvd, Suite M111, Los Angeles, CA 90036, is like a “mini-vacation” that anyone can enjoy during a lunch break or after a long day of work. Three years ago, he resigned from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory to pursue his newfound passion: virtual reality. Soon after, his first VR project ‘Where Angels Meet’ was chosen by Oculus/Facebook to receive funding as part of their prestigious Launchpad program. In 2018, he began to experiment with virtual reality experiences that transported viewers to beautiful places. This is how Esqapes was born.

As an African-American founder, it’s Micah’s mission to become a pioneer in the VR industry. With Esqapes, he can set this example. Hunt for Nessie with a Career Monster Tracker

While Scotland is known for its legends and fables, none are quite as famous as the Loch Ness Monster. While considered by some as folklore, the storied creature has been likened by scientists to a plesiosaur that dates back to the end of the last ice age. To unearth the history of the mystical creature, meet Adrian Shine, a naturalist and researcher, for a private boat ride as he shares his insider knowledge after years of studying Nessie. You’ll fly across the waters of Loch Ness, one of the largest and deepest expanses of water in the UK, as you search for this elusive creature.

This rare experience is set on the shores of Loch Ness, where well-tended courtyards, 16th-century gardens and horseback riding can be found as you stroll vast woodland grounds. For a closer look at the garden’s soaring pergolas, meet with your private guide for a tour, while keeping eyes peeled for deer, sea eagles and even basking sharks—the world’s second-largest fish. Dates & prices available upon request.

Cast a Line with an Expert Ghillie

Grab your waders and wellies for an unforgettable fishing experience with one of Scotland’s most knowledgeable fishing expeditioners. Forage for Juniper to Make Your Own Gin

While whisky may be the official drink of Ireland, gin is also a popular local tipple. In Ireland’s Ancient East, you can learn the complicated science behind every bottle of Irish-made gin. Head into the forest with a naturalist guide to forage for fresh ingredients, such as juniper and other herbs. Then, head to an exclusive gin school to distill a bottle with your own herbs—making for a memorable souvenir.

They’ll guide you through the history of the separation between Northern and Southern Ireland, the basic knowledge of the Gaelic language and their local traditions. Then, you’ll be whisked away to a tiny island, where you’ll climb to the top of a sea stack, then rappel down the steep cliffside high above ocean waves.

Nic’s On Beverly

360 Magazine had the opportunity to try L.A.’s hottest vegan restaurant, Nic’s on Beverly. Nic’s is a fairly new eatery pioneered by Stephan Bombet and Nic Adler, the man who first opened Monty’s Good Burger and featured his arsenal at Coachella Music and Arts festival in Palm Springs.

Upon entering the establishment, a modern indoor dining area accented with a bar in blues and a patio can be found. The Hollywood heat is cooled by a gaping tree, sprinkled with lights, that shades most of the courtyard. With the smiles of the staff urging its patrons on, picking a seat has never felt more welcoming.

Start your afternoon right with handcrafted cocktails, a signature frozé or a Bloody Mary (for you spice lovers). Vegan waffles, tofu eggs benedict, and falafel burgers are just the start of Nic’s madness. The falafel burger particularly has meat-eaters covered and gets health nuts just a little more nutty. What means the most is the craftsmanship of each dish whether it be the four-step process fries or an in-house jelly. Farm-to-fork is deemed an understatement and perhaps the most overlooked dish would be the summertime peach salad which leaves your pallet refreshed with aromatic tomatoes.

At the end of the day, a foodie trying this establishment won’t care whether they are eating meat or not – the flavor says it all. The fresh gem can be found at 8265 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90048, and their Instagram here.
