May the Sky
The emerging indie rock band, May the Sky [MTS], is based in Dayton, OH. Their exclusive, “Won” from the new EP Discoveries is an anthemic masterpiece which is reminiscent of the iconic Bohemian Rhapsody and some of their mantras. Hard hitting melodies alongside of dramatic drums and rhythmic guitar riffs. Brilliant lyrics coupled with effortless vocals and orchestration make this alternative ensemble ooze marketability. It’s been a long time since we have tripped upon a gem like MTS. Both epic and spellbinding.

Wonderful Pittsburgh
At the edge of Pennsylvania lies the gorgeous, lively, and progressive city of Pittsburgh. What makes up the city – the people, the culture, the entertainment, and everything in between – will keep you coming back for more. Founded in 1758 by our first president, George Washington, and British general, John Forbes, Pittsburgh has come to be the 27th largest city in the United States. It has a metropolitan population of over 2 million, and a density of around 5 thousand square miles. It is surrounded by three crystal clear rivers – the Monongahela, the Ohio, and the Allegheny. The Allegheny, being the biggest of the three, is the main headstream of both the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. Three must be the cities lucky number because not only are they known for their three beautiful rivers but also their three identical bridges, the Three Sisters. The city has been named “most livable city” by Forbes and The Economist with a high regard to its environmental design.
If you are looking for a quieter and financially friendly Pittsburgh visit due to lowered cost of accommodations and hotel/vacation rental stays, February is the month to go, although be wary as it is the coldest month with an average in the thirties. The sunniest month in Pittsburgh is July, where you can bask in the warm sun at the beautiful Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. There, you can join “Let’s Move Pittsburgh” for fun summer activities from free fitness classes to arts & crafts, or even lay out a blanket for a relaxing picnic surrounded by multicolored orchids and other flowers alike.
If you’d prefer to experience a locally-owned gem, make your way to The Vandal, a trendy restaurant in the neighborhood of Lawrenceville where all food is locally sourced and grown. Maybe you’re painfully hungry and want a sandwich piled high with fresh meat, cheeses, and most importantly french fries. If so, head over to the Pittsburgh famous Primanti Bros’ for a sandwich piled high with fresh meat, cheeses, and most importantly french fries. Following your meal, whether it be picnicking on the grass or devouring one of Primanti Bros’ staple loaded Pittsburgher sandwiches, make your way to the country’s first contemporary art museum, the Carnegie Museum of Art (CMOA), which was founded in 1895. During the Christmas season, you have the chance to see a CMOA special exhibition, the nativity scene—a collection of art pieces representing the birth of Jesus. If you are a film fanatic, you will be pleased to know that the city is home to many blockbuster movies such as The Dark Knight Rises, Adventureland, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Take a stroll through the city to see if you can find the streets where Batman zoomed down in the Batmobile or where James’s first kiss with Em was in Adventureland (hint: 16th Street Bridge). Or, for the people out there that can’t eat anything without some ketchup, head to the Heinz History Center for a tour of how your favorite ketchup came to be at almost every dining table you sit at today. You can also take a ride on the Duquesne Incline, a funicular (a trolley car that goes up and down the side of a mountain) that scales Mt. Washington with a beautiful view of downtown Pittsburgh. Taking a ride around sunset the city looks as if it is glowing and golden.
If you love to shop, then you need to make your way Figleaf Boutique or Boutique La Passerelle for cute seasonal items and the hip Moop Shop for handmade canvas bags. Are you an all-things-vintage kind of person? Then you will be happy to hear that Pittsburgh is filled with vintage goods stores. Juju is one of many that offers chic vintage clothing as well as natural perfumes, ritual potions, tarot card readings and more in hopes that all who enter will leave with good juju. The city doesn’t just offer vintage clothing, but also vintage furniture and home decor items found at Who Knew? Retro Décor in Lawrenceville. If you want to turn your home into something you’ve once seen in a classic James Bond movie you can with them. But if your feet are tired and you just want to relax, make towards Peace, Love & Zen, a popular spa in the East Liberty neighborhood. Whether it be detoxing in the Himalayan salt cave or relaxing during a group ambient music listening session you will be pampered like the king/queen you are.
Later on in the night, you should find yourself walking through Market Square in the center of Downtown – an area saturated with all the good food and nightlife one could want. If you are looking for a good and fun performance then head to P-Town bar, a gay bar with pop music and drag shows. If it’s a cold beer or cocktail you are looking for, check out The Warren Bar and Burrow, a fun place to enjoy a specialty crafted drink. In addition, there is a well-regarded gastropub within Market Square called City Works Eatery and Pour House. Sit at the bar, meet one of the locals who are known to be some of the kindest, most intelligent, and loveliest people to speak with. If the game from earlier that day is on, your new friend will tell you how their boys in black and gold, the Pittsburgh Steelers, are some of the best players in the NFL (which isn’t wrong—they have 6 Super Bowl championships and 23 Division championships). Or, they might tell you about how Pittsburgh is becoming a vibrant hub for future tech, such as robotics and artificial intelligence which has been luring research grants and start-up companies to their progressive city. As a matter of fact, areas in Pittsburgh are being compared to the prosperous Silicon Valley. Companies in the industry are constantly testing their futuristic autonomous cars on the streets of Pittsburgh.
After a night of drinking, laughing, and, outright fun, take a cab back to your hotel, the Fairmont Pittsburgh, argued to be one of the best, if not the best, hotels in Downtown Pittsburgh. The Fairmont, opened in 2010, is seen embracing Pittsburgh’s rich history of industry and art through its contemporary, steel-focused design and local artwork solidifying it as illustrious, swank, and hip.
Hotel Highlights:
• 185 luxurious guest rooms featuring comfortable amenities such as a large working desk, contemporary decor, and seamless technology
• Breathtaking views of PNC Park and the Pittsburgh skyline
• Known as the wedding destination of Pittsburgh
• BMW bicycles offered to guests to explore Pittsburgh
• fl.2, a new Modern American restaurant which serves delicious food for each meal of the day accompanied by great cocktails

• The Health Club & Spa at the Fairmont Pittsburgh offers a multitude of complimentary spa and gym amenities such as fresh, clean, and stylish Reebok workout gear including shoes, socks, shorts and a t-shirt
The city’s tourism board, VisitPITTSBURGH, shows just how welcoming and loving its people are with their campaign, “Pull Up A Chair, You Are Welcomed Here.” As part of the campaign, there will be painted by local artists throughout the city as an act of hospitality and warm greetings to tourists and locals alike.
Incoming colligates would also be happy to hear that the city has an abundant amount of unique universities and colleges. A few local universities include
a. Ranked 70thbest school according to the 2019 edition of Best Colleges and National Universities
b. The Pittsburgh Panthers compete in the NCAA Division I Atlantic Coast Conference and have lots of school spirit
a. Ranked 25thbest school according to the 2019 edition of Best Colleges and National Universities
b. Known for its programs in science and technology but includes many diverse programs
a. Ranked 11thbest Catholic university within the U.S. News 2019 top tier schools
4. Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania
5. California University of Pennsylvania
6. Community College of Allegheny County
8. The Art Institute of Pittsburgh
Contrary to popular belief, Pittsburgh is not as close to Philly as many believe. As a matter of fact, it is 6 hours away by car. But regardless of whether you are from Philly, Los Angeles, or even on the other side of the world, the beautiful city of Pittsburgh awaits your arrival with open arms. Come as a tourist or come looking for new residency – especially for those who are future students, budding entrepreneurs, or looking to go into the tech industry – you will find what you are looking for in Pittsburgh.

GIRLS KICK SUMMER SOUNDS INTO ACTION
International singer/songwriter, K-Syran, celebrates the recognition of women at this year’s Ibiza Music Summit and personally promises a summer of stonking dance music.
Summer – gorgeous, warm, sparkling summer. The trees are full, the blossom’s floating down like snow and we’re hankering after those delicious brushes of warm sunshine on our skin. Don’t you just love it! But summer brings with it so much more than the seasonal sun – it also comes armed with a whole new bag of music. As spring blends into shimmering summer, our music industry flicks the switch on the vibe dial and suddenly we burst into action on the dance floor.
Summer is officially here and that means dance music is hot on the agenda for the next four months!
Just as the first buds of spring peep into view, our radio stations tempt and tease us as they sprinkle more vibrant and energized dance tracks across the airwaves. From that moment, us music lovers know that the new season of music has sprung into life. Summer ‘sounds’ are equally as important as the summer sun and as the Ibiza Music Summit came to an end last weekend, it marked the official start of the dance music season, bring it on!
With three Top 10 dance hits of my own, I understand just how important dance music is to all of us. Standing hand-in-hand with festivals and live gigs, dance clubs are one of the few places that our music can touch and interact with our audience on a live level. That’s one of the few opportunities that we have to share the exhilarating musical experience as one. For me, that’s what music is all about, that touching-point with my audience.
So I applaud my musical sisters who made a stand at this year’s Ibiza Music Summit and addressed the vital topic of Diversity in Electronic Music. Tackling the issue of female representation within the electronic music industry, Jackie Antas of Live Nation exposed some vital statistics about us girls in the industry:
- Just 1 out of 15 of Billboard’s One’s to Watch were women
- No major music labels have female bosses
- In 2014, only 18% of electronic labels include women on their rosters
- Women made up 11% of rosters in 2016
I’m sure you’ll agree that these statistics are kinda shocking in what’s meant to be a equal world and within an industry which focuses so heavily on female talent. The Summit discussed the need to implement a change in thought processes globally and it was agreed that there’s absolutely no doubt that the industry needs to represent women more fairly. We shouldn’t label talent as ‘female artists’ or ‘female DJs’ – we should be equal enough to be label for our talent, not our gender.
Bring it on girls, let’s show the industry what we’re made of! I’m kicking live and loud into this summer of dance with a bucket load of dance music that I’ll be releasing across the season. I’ve been working with some awesome DJs and remixers to bring you the flavour of music that I know keeps you pumping in the clubs. From awesome Dan Boots right through to the unparalleled talent of Jamie Lewis and Mr Mike – I’ve been working relentlessly in the studio with them all and I promise I’ll make this a musical summer that you won’t forget. Watch this space – us girls will be lighting up those Ibiza dance floors very soon!

In an era where there seems to be a side-story of viral fame or leveraging online connections to rise to the top, 18-year-old high school student Bernard Jabs has carved his budding career out from pure authenticity. In Bernard Jabs’ first uploaded track, Gotta Get It, there is the obvious sound of his younger teenage voice, but within that sound is also the raw skill Bernard holds. His ability to channel the charisma of the music he grew up on and blend it with more current rap trends keeps Bernard circulating as one of the brightest new talents of a generation.
Growing up in Tifton, Georgia during part of the height of Southern rap, Bernard gravitated towards the star power of Lil Wayne. After seeing Wayne in the music video for “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy,” Bernard was entranced in the lifestyle – the cars, the girls, the money, the confidence. Bernard Jabs took to the culture surrounding southern rap and used that history to guide him towards the future.

Chicago’s South Side PRIDE Festival Recap
The goal of event was to bring Chicago Pride back to South Side (where it started) to support the scene’s queer crowd, community and overall spirit of the freedom to dance, consume music, and stand up for what you believe in. Chicago’s queer scene is more vibrant than ever- bustling with a new generation of artists, activists and voices carrying on the legacy of these South Side’s queer pioneers.
Red Bull announces the first Red Bull Presents show of 2019. Taking place Thursday, June 27th in Chicago, Red Bull Presents: Renaissance One will bring BbyMutha, TT the Artist, Kidd Kenn, Blu Bone as well as DJ Rae Chardonnay, DJ Hijo Pródigo and Professor-Wrecks to South Side venue The Promontory for a thrilling night. Renaissance One seeks to elevate these progressive artists and pay tribute to Chicago’s LGBTQ+ pioneers days before the city’s 2019 Pride celebrations on June 30th.
In 1970, following the Stonewall riots, a gay liberation organization formed at the University of Chicago and sponsored a dance at the South Side’s Coliseum Annex which would become the first-ever public lesbian and gay dance event (aside from Halloween drag balls already happening). Following the dance, these energized organizers led a campaign to make the Normandy on Rush Street Chicago’s first gay bar to secure a license and permit same-sex dancing. Flash forward to 2019 and, thanks to these early activists, Chicago’s queer scene is more vibrant than ever- bustling with a new generation of artists, activists and voices carrying on the legacy of these South Side’s queer pioneers.
Reflecting on the importance of that early dance event and its organizers, Red Bull Music’s Renaissance One is honored to be hosting this indoor & outdoor Pride celebration and bringing the celebrations – typically celebrated in the Boystown neighborhood – back to the South Side to support the scene’s queer crowd, community and overall spirit of the freedom to dance, consume music, and stand up for what you believe in.
The event will feature a stacked lineup of diverse and emerging talent that celebrates the region’s rich roots and aims to introduce fans to those that intend to continue the legacy. Featuring performances from BbyMutha, a TN rapper and mother of two known for her unique, sharp-tongued narratives; TT the Artist, a veritable jade-of-all-trades artist, songwriter and owner of female safe haven label, Club Queen Records; Chicago’s exciting queer teenage rap phenom Kidd Kenn and Chicago’s bi/pan/deity artist Blu Bone. The event will also feature DJ sets from three Chicago residents: DJ Rae Chardonnay, a queer promotor and advocate for the queer spectrum and black female empowerment, producer Hijo Pródigo of the FUTUREHOOD crew and the retro and house inspired Professor-Wrecks.
To commemorate the exciting event, Red Bull Music will also produce limited edition merchandise with Chicago streetwear brand High End Junkie, whose celebrity clientele includes Teyana Taylor, Iman Shumpert, Nick Cannon and more. The collaborative merch will be available exclusively at the venue once doors open for a limited time. Renaissance One will also feature visual identity and production from Chicago’s queer collective, VAM and celebrate the iconic styles of disco and soul modernized for a new audience. The event will be indoor and outdoor.
