Overcoming Chronic Illness

Did you know that 40 million Americans are limited in their usual activities due to chronic illness?

Dr. Bill Rawls, a leading integrative health expert on Lyme disease and other similar/related chronic illnesses, has created a PROVEN 5-pronged approach to overcoming a chronic illness.

As a successful OB-GYN, Dr. Rawls’ life came to screeching halt after he was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in his late 40s. While suffering with the symptoms associated with fibromyalgia (insomnia, fatigue, joint pain) and others suggesting this was something bigger (chest pain and heartbeat irregularity), his research outside of conventional medicine began. Shifting his focus from searching hopelessly for a diagnosis towards health restoration, Dr. Rawls’ new lifestyle practices of adopting a cleaner diet, being vigilant about regular exercise, and studying herbal supplements that have healing properties worked in tandem to reverse his fibromyalgia symptoms – until one summer he suffered a tick bite.

After being diagnosed with Lyme Disease and re-experiencing the same symptoms as fibromyalgia, Dr. Rawls consumed everything he could about using herbs for medicinal use; studied remedies used for hundreds of years, reviewed clinical studies, spoke with other professionals well versed in complementary and alternative therapies, and more. After applying what he had learned to himself and his practice, Dr. Rawls is a living testament to how natural health solutions work and that you can live a symptom-free life.

So what are his proven 5 steps to overcoming chronic illness?

  • Keeping a healthy whole-foods diet
  • Regular exercise
  • Stress management
  • Detoxification
  • Microbiome balance

Rebel Wilson For InStyle May Issue

For her FIRST US COVER, Rebel Wilson is gracing InStyle’s May issue!

Rebel celebrated her 39th birthday in a truly glamorous way: by shooting with InStyle in Paris. Inspired by over-the-top perfume ads from the ’70s and ’80s, she fronted our equally elaborate fragrance campaign for a fantasy scent dubbed Rebelle.  Watch Rebel in her greatest role yet, fragrance model. #Rebelle, available exclusively on InStyle.com.

WATCH THE VIDEO HERE

Here, she sits down with Editor in chief, Laura Brown, to talk about what’s next (politics?), her law degree, dating and more.

  • LB: Do you feel like you have a healthier attitude toward your appearance now?
RW: Actually, when you get paparazzi’d and stuff, it does make you think about it. When Pitch Perfect came out, I became internationally famous, and people were hanging outside my house to take my photo. You have to think about it a bit more than a normal person. But I’m a pretty low-maintenance chick. Through working with my stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, I’ve learned all these little tips and tricks—and they really work. Then you feel more comfort- able when you have to dress up. I remember I didn’t even go to a friend’s wedding in my 20s because I didn’t know where to buy a dress in my size. Now it is the opposite. Now I have a wardrobe full of custom Givenchy.
  • LB: You’ve done so much in a relatively short time.
RW: If you look at the odds of someone from Australia making it, they’re pretty small. When I look at all the things I’ve done in my career … I feel like I’ve got so much farther to go. But I am really proud, and, you know, I didn’t have to sleep my way to the top. [laughs]
  • LB: What’s it like dating and such?
RW: People get very intimidated, which is weird, the idea that I would be intimidating to anyone. But it happens all the time, to the point that someone I really liked was so intimidated and got a lot of anxiety and couldn’t have a relationship with me because I’m in the public eye. They didn’t want that, so that kind of sucked. If someone thinks they’re on a date with Fat Amy, that’s not going to happen. Sorry, I can be almost as much fun, but I’m not like that
    in real life.
  • LB: Whose career do you admire?
RW: I like Donna Langley, who runs Universal Studios. I think that’s awesome. Also, I have this weird feeling that I might go into politics in Australia.
  • LB: So what would your political platform be?
RW: I want to help people, and part of my case [in Australia] was standing up to a big, bullying media organization. When I see other people needing to
stand up for themselves, I like to inspire them or help them with the legal knowledge I have. And, God, as a woman, you need to stand up for yourself in so many ways. It’s important, and I think some people do find inspiration from me and my life. My mother was a public-school teacher. I have a sister who is a nurse, and I’m real big into military—I shouldn’t say just military dudes. [laughs] I’m into good education for people. Through the School [of St Jude] in Tanzania, I have been helping to lift kids out of poverty through education. The health-care system is really important. Those are the political platforms I naturally would have because of my background, so I do think when I am done with Hollywood, that’s what will happen.
  • LB: You could go Schwarzenegger. Except do it in Australia.
RW: Yeah, but I feel like I’m more qualified. I have the top law degree from the University of New South Wales.

Global Data Center Isreal

Israeli company Global Data Center doubled the capacity of its facility in an investment of millions of dollars

Global Data Center, a leading provider of a cutting-edge data center facility in Israel, has completed the doubling of its facility in an investment of millions of dollars.

Most of the expanded area in Global Data Center’s facility in Herzliya (near Tel Aviv) has already been filled with IT infrastructures of both existing and new clients of the company. The expanded area provides all the standards, services and levels of service provided by the facility’s original area. The expansion of the data center’s area by more than twice joins other measures that the company has taken recently, such as tripling the data center’s business continuity space, allowing the company’s clients to quickly move to work at the Herzliya facility in an emergency.

Global Data Center operates a secured underground data center facility built in compliance with the latest global standards. The tier-3 site provides hosting services for IT operations units, full business continuity and disaster recovery, as well as on-site and remote back-up, cloud computing services, on-demand control and operating services, and smart hands services.

Companies using the services of Global Data Center’s facility include leading institutional organizations in Israel such as Harel Insurance Investments and Financial Services Ltd., Clal Insurance Enterprises Holdings Ltd., IBI Investment House Ltd., alongside industrial firms. Global Data Center also hosts at its facility some of Israel’s leading high-tech companies such as Infinidat Ltd., Zerto Ltd., SolarEdge Technologies Inc. and DSP Group, alongside multi-national corporations, government organizations and other entities.

Global Data Center was founded by Moshe Lasman in 2013 in cooperation with and the financial backing of Viola Group and Leon Recanati’s GlenRock Investments. Lasman previously served as the head of the Outsourcing Department at IBM Israel and head of Global Services at HP Israel. Alongside Lasman, the company’s executive team includes experienced managers from tier-1 companies in Israel.

Moshe Lasman, founder and CEO of Global Data Center, said: “the expansion of our data center is a significant milestone for us and good news for Israel-related companies and organizations which would like to host their IT infrastructure in a way that ensures business continuity, around the clock service, security, survivability and cost savings. Digital transformation, the critical role of data in business processes and the flexible model for consuming electricity and area drive organizations to receive services from high quality specialized vendors such as Global Data Center.”

Lasman continued: “As a data center which has been active for five years without any fault, the expansion serves as a proof for the strong momentum we are experiencing, when large Israel-based organization have stopped hesitating whether their infrastructure should be hosted at an external facility, and just ask how and where the hosting should take place. We will continue to be an essential foundation for any large organization which aims to leverage the benefits of hosting its IT and communications systems at an accessible data center which complies with the most rigorous international standards and is equipped with all the required certifications and licenses.”

Risks of an Animal Protein Diet

Diet rich in animal protein is associated with a greater risk of death

A diet rich in animal protein and meat in particular is not good for the health, a new study from the University of Eastern Finland finds, providing further backing for earlier research evidence. Men who favored animal protein over plant-based protein in their diet had a greater risk of death in a 20-year follow-up than men whose diet was more balanced in terms of their sources of protein. The findings were published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Men whose primary sources of protein were animal-based had a 23% higher risk of death during the follow-up than men who had the most balanced ratio of animal and plant-based protein in their diet. A high intake of meat in particular seemed to associate with adverse effects: men eating a diet rich in meat, i.e. more than 200 grams per day, had a 23% greater risk of death during the follow-up than men whose intake of meat was less than 100 grams per day. The men participating in the study mainly ate red meat. Most nutrition recommendations nowadays limit the intake of red and processed meats. In Finland, for example, the recommended maximum intake is 500 grams per week.

The study also found that a high overall intake of dietary protein was associated with a greater risk of death in men who had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease or cancer at the onset of the study. A similar association was not found in men without these diseases. The findings highlight the need to investigate the health effects of protein intake especially in people who have a pre-existing chronic medical condition. The mean age of the men participating in the study was 53 years at the onset, and diets clearly lacking in protein were not typical among the study population.

“However, these findings should not be generalized to older people who are at a greater risk of malnutrition and whose intake of protein often remains below the recommended amount,” PhD Student Heli Virtanen from the University of Eastern Finland points out.

Earlier studies have suggested that a high intake of animal protein, and especially the consumption of processed meats such as sausages and cold cuts, is associated with an increased risk of death. However, the big picture relating to the health effects of protein and different protein sources remains unclear.

The study is based on the Kuopio Ischaemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study (KIHD) that analyzed the dietary habits of approximately 2,600 Finnish men aged between 42 and 60 at the onset of the study in 1984-1989. The researchers studied the mortality of this study population in an average follow-up of 20 years by analyzing registers provided by Statistics Finland. The analyses focused on the associations of dietary protein and protein sources with mortality during the follow-up, and other lifestyle factors and dietary habits were extensively controlled for, including the fact that those eating plenty of plant-based protein followed a healthier diet.

Relationship Advice from NASA Engineer

Conservatives stay single longer

A new study from NASA engineer Rashied Amini, Ph.D. analyzes factors that contribute to how long people stay single. Some surprising results include conservative political views, higher education and not so surprising factors like income as a deal-breaker. The results of the study were used to create Nanaya’s love prediction algorithm, which is available for free and premium memberships online, and for iOS and Android.“Somehow this is the first time someone’s seriously looked at this question. The answers we found aren’t just about how long people stay single but also why,” said founder and owner of Nanaya,Rashied Amini, Ph.D.,on why he decided to conduct this study and start Nanaya.

Levelof education and rebound time have an almost perfectly correlated relationship. With someone staying single 0.8 months longer for each additional year of secondary & post-secondary education obtained. In addition, people who work in Academia & Higher Education have longer rebound times compared to other industries, with those working in agriculture having the shortest rebound time.

People who take public transit frequently will on average find relationships four months faster than people who never or rarely take public transit.

The size of your company could impact your love life. The study showed that people in workplaces of ~30-70 people have the best odds of entering a relationship sooner compared to smaller companies or large corporations.

Those with unempathetic political views tend to spend significantly longer looking for a relationship. Some of the opinions that have the most impact include being against marriage equality and universal healthcare, supporting increased border security, and being opposed to expanding welfare.

Feminists have an easier time finding relationships by approximately 1-2 months. This includes men who support feminism.

Compared to straight men and women, gay and bisexual people find relationships faster. Gay men spend the least amount of time single, followed by bisexual men and women.

Since non-Americans find love approximately 8 months sooner than Americans, traveling internationally can increase your chances of making a lasting connection.

Level of education and rebound time have an almost perfectly correlated relationship. With someone staying single 0.8 months longer for each additional year of secondary & post-secondary education obtained. In addition, people who work in Academia & Higher Education have a longer rebound time compared to other industries, with those working in Agriculture having the shortest rebound time.

According to Nanaya’s data, psychology and belief systems have a stronger correlation to time spent single. When it comes to children, those who want children spend the shortest time single, followed by those who don’t know if they want children. Single parents or those who don’t want children spend the longest time single.
