Wine and Wildflowers

Wine and Wildflowers Make Gatlinburg The Perfect Spring Destination

By Patrick T Cooper

What is on your travel list for spring? Here is your specific guide to EAT, STAY, and PLAY in the  Great Smoky Mountains. Gatlinburg, Tennessee may have fallen under your radar. However, I have two reasons you should answer the call to action by The Great Smoky Mountains. I will humbly admit Gatlinburg, Tennessee was a sleeper for me. Beyond the fanfare and huge presence of the legendary Dolly Parton I was unsure what to expect from my visit. Fortunately, I was enamored with brilliant southern hospitality and a warm embrace during my visit for the Smoky Mountain Winefest Weekend and the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage. There is gallons of the good stuff (wine) in Gatlinburg and tons of activities that will have you returning seasonally to build a lifetime of memories.

Eat

When all is said and done wine tasting and hiking, then walk a half block from the hotel to the Log Cabin House. The food and service are unparalleled. Seriously, there a tons of dining experiences in walking distance from the hotel, I decided to patronize this establishment three times over my weekend stay. From my first dining experience, it was as if I met an old friend from the moment my server greeted me. Did I mention, the joint has the absolute best hash browns known to man. Take my advice and sprinkle your belly with this delightful southern dish you will not be disappointed.

Stay

Whether you are a solo traveler or with family and friends the convenience of being downtown Gatlinburg is a definite advantage. While the Swiss themed chalets and cottages in the mountains quite tempting, it is best to opt for the convenience of the Courtyard Marriott so that you may drink responsibly. Literally, steps away from the city center you can nestle down and perhaps stumble back to your hotel after dinner and enjoying local attractions. By the way, the indoor and outdoor oversized fireplaces make this hotel cozy, chic, and comfortable for fireside chats with friends to recap the fun of the day.

Play

Smoky Mountain Winefest Weekend

Who is ready to sip wine? We will not twist your arm but the local wineries make it easy to indulge. Wine is about what you love and by far my favorite wine find during this travel excursion was Tennessee Homemade Wines Proper Peach. Considering I’m a Georgia native it is only fitting that I gravitated to the acidic bliss of  this beverage. The Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts serves as a cool backdrop for this friendly event paired with delicious local fare. Grab your tickets and get to Smoky Mountains. Click here for more details about Smoky Mountain Winefest Weekend

Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage

Don’t forget to wear your most comfortable shoes or footwear suitable for hiking in the great outdoors. Porters Creek Trail is phenomenal. While the hike is not arduous the rocks and  slippery paths require support to keep your feet firmly planted. The multitude and medley of exotic colors are will have you in heaven. The tour guides are passionate about educating you on the different species of wildflowers which will have you engaged the entire experience. Be sure to fully charge your camera as the flowers make for the most brilliant natural photography. Click here for more details about the Wildflower Pilgrimage

Monsta X & Steve Aoki “Play It Cool

GLOBAL POP SENSATIONS MONSTA X & STEVE AOKI RELEASE ENGLISH VERSION OF HIT SINGLE “PLAY IT COOL” TODAY

STREAM “PLAY IT COOL” ENGLISH VERSION HERE

Today, global superstars, Monsta X, and two-time Grammy nominated DJ and Producer, Steve Aoki, release the English version of their collaborative hit “Play it Cool.” On the heels of releasing the Korean version last month, the Aoki-Monsta force keeps fans on their feet with this new English language track. Aoki composed, arranged, and produced this track, alongside co-writer and Monsta X rapper, I.M.

The bouncy piano keys and punchy beat provide the foundation for Aoki’s iconic electro-pop sound, paired with Aoki’s use of Monsta X’s voices, to create texture and build the track as a whole. The initial chorus proclaims “And when you’re dancin’ in my face, I just play it cool,” followed by the lyrics “I love the way that you came over here” repeated over and over again in an edited sped-up hook that is impossible to get out of your head. Steve says, “their [Monsta X] voices dive into your soul”, so it’s no surprise that he would utilize their singing as a fundamental motif and driving force, outside of the vocal leads.

“Monsta X is one of those powerhouse groups that sets the bar very high,” stated Aoki. “Their voices stay with you long after the song is over, and on this track they sang so profoundly that all we had to do was focus on the story we were telling. I really believe in today’s world that we have redefined what love and relationships look like, so I think that this song is one that many people can relate to.”

“It was such an honor to work with Steve Aoki. He is truly an amazing artist and producer. We love how “Play It Cool” turned out at the end so much that we included it in our recent album – Take 2 ‘We Are Here’!” said Monsta X. “After the great success of the Korean version, we can’t wait to see the responses to the English version from all over the world. This collab is a gift from us to our ‘monbebe’ , for always taking care of us and keeping it cool. Thank you.”

Outside of this new collab with Steve, Monsta X have also announced a nineteen-date world tour beginning in April, ending with six U.S. dates. The band will be traveling all the way from South Korea to California throughout the course of their performances, ending at the historic Staples Center. Tickets are on sale Friday March 29th, 4:00PM local; follow the link here for more information. The band’s latest album, Take.2 ‘We Are Here,’ debuted at #5 on Billboard’s World Albums Chart for the week of March 2, 2019; and has been causing an unstoppable wave of interest with notable mentions in Complex, Idolator, Billboard, Cosmopolitan, and NME stating that the album “features some giant leaps forward for the band.” On top of that, the band is currently set to perform as the first K-pop group at the iHeartRadio Music Festival out in Las Vegas on September 21st, 2019.

ABOUT MONSTA X

Monsta X has been causing an unstoppable wave of interest here, with their history making performances at iHeartRadio Jingle Ball last December. Variety raved that Monsta X “was especially impressive, getting down with the acrobatics the group displayed on their hyped up, historic appearances as the first K Pop act to grace the Jingle Ball stage.” The Boston Globe referred to them as the “night’s most fascinating act” and MTV stated that they “had The Forum shaking and rattling.” Instyle stated; “If we were giving out an award for “Best Dancer” at the Jingle Ball, it would go to Monsta X, hands down. The K-pop band opened the whole shebang, and while their vocals were also great, they stole the show with their moves.”

In addition to that, the band continues to garner stellar reviews from media such as: MTV, Refinery 29, Buzzfeed, Allure, Idolator, Billboard, Dazed, Rolling Stone India, Popcrush “Monsta X is a group that cannot be overlooked.” They even made the cut for Pandora’s 2019 Artist’s To Watch, as the only K-Pop group included.

Kailee Morque’s New Queer Pop Power Anthem

KAILEE MORGUE TEAMS UP WITH HAYLEY KIYOKO TO RELEASE QUEER POP POWER ANTHEM “HEADCASE”

LISTEN HERE

Today, critically acclaimed gothic pop songstress Kailee Morgue returns with her new single, “Headcase,” featuring multi-talented artist, songwriter and director Hayley Kiyoko. Produced by CJ Baran [Panic! At the Disco, Carly Rae Jepsen, Melanie Martinez], this empowering queer pop power anthem features a sample of The Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind?.” Written by Morgue and recorded alongside Baran, the song was inspired by Kailee’s struggles with her mental health and bipolar disorder.

LISTEN TO “HEADCASE” FEAT. HAYLEY KIYOKO HERE!

Of “Headcase,” Kailee says, “When I wrote this song, I knew I wanted a strong female artist like Hayley on the track to not only represent the LGBTQ community, but to help translate the idea of owning your issues.”

Hayley chimes in, saying, “I’m such a fan of Kailee’s music, and when she sent me ‘Headcase’ I really connected with the song right away. I was in a dark place of figuring out my own mental health at the time, and I related so much to the lyrics. That’s such a normal feeling, like you’re going crazy sometimes and can’t quite make sense of your emotions. It just felt like a perfect song for us to collaborate on.”

“Headcase” exclusive premiered with an interview between Kailee and Hayley on PAPER, who praises the track saying, “‘Headcase’ boomerangs from gentle, moody synths on the verses, to a glitchy, explosive chorus full of emo-tinged melodrama.”

The song follows the release of Kailee’s 2017 breakout single, “Medusa,” which catapulted her into an overnight success. After signing with Republic Records, she released her debut EP and a slew of critically acclaimed singles, including “F**k U,” “Do You Feel This Way” (feat. Whethan) and most recently “Siren.” “Headcase” sets the stage for Kailee’s upcoming project set for release this year.

ABOUT KAILEE MORGUE

Magic takes many forms. In the case of Kailee Morgue, it happened in the span of one unbelievable year. Not only did the critically acclaimed Phoenix-based gothic pop siren manifest a spellbinding signature style in 2018, but she also underwent a lifetime of transformation in that time. Musically, she released her breakout hits, “Medusa,” “Siren,” “Do You Feel This Way” feat. Whethan and “F**k U.” The artist earned acclaim from The New York Times, MTV, The FADER, NYLON, Highsnobiety, Pigeons & Planes, PAPER, Vice’s i-D, and Teen Vogue who proclaimed her among the “Musicians You Need to Be Listening to In 2019.” Not to mention, she embarked on her very first national tour. Personally, she turned 20, came out to her family, embraced her bipolar disorder, tattooed her face and even cut her multicolored locks. All of these experiences informed, impacted and influenced Kailee’s music in 2019 and beyond, as she emerged from “night to day.” Working alongside frequent collaborator CJ Baran [Panic! at the Disco, Carly Rae Jepsen, Melanie Martinez], she succinctly refined her sound. Kailee’s new single “Headcase” feat. Hayley Kiyoko from her forthcoming project was written and recorded in a five-hour fit of inspiration alongside Baran, an empowering anthem inspired by her relationship with her bipolar disorder. The track builds from an airy sample of The Pixies’ classic “Where Is My Mind?” over glitchy electronics into a chantable chorus. Dueting with Hayley, Kailee bravely declares, “I’m a headcase, but you love me, I’m a mistake, I warned you.”

ABOUT HAYLEY KIYOKO

Multi-talented artist/director/actor/dancer Hayley Kiyoko has become one of the most celebrated new artists in the pop landscape since releasing her debut album Expectations. According to Rolling Stone, the album’s singles “‘Curious’ and ‘What I Need’ (featuring Kehlani) have placed her at the forefront of an unapologetically queer pop movement.” Coined by Kiyoko and her fans, #20GAYTEEN turned out to be a year full of firsts for the rising pop star who continues to break down barriers at every turn. After being nominated for two VMAs (Best New Artist and Push Artist Of The Year), Hayley attended her first-ever awards show to perform “Curious” and take home the moon person for Push Artist Of The Year. Her captivating live performance soared to new heights with a Coachella festival debut and a nationwide headline tour, which sold out every date including two nights at New York City’s Irving Plaza. Not stopping, Kiyoko went on to join Panic! At The Disco on their “Pray for the Wicked Tour,” performing in arenas across North America. She also took the stage in a stadium for the first time when pop icon Taylor Swift brought her out as a surprise guest on her Reputation World Tour. Kiyoko created a storm that drew attention from not only fans, but the media as well. She stunned on the covers of NYLON and PAPER, and was named to the No. 4 spot on NPR’s list “The 21st Century’s Most Influential Women Musicians,” right behind Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Rhianna. Kiyoko made her national TV debut performing “Curious” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and went on to perform fan-favorite “He’ll Never Love You (HNLY)” on Late Night with Seth Meyers. She also turned heads in New York City attending her first New York Fashion Week, sitting front row at shows including Christian Siriano and Opening Ceremony. Ending the year on an extremely special high note, Kiyoko was honored with the Rising Star Award at Billboard’s annual Women in Music event in December. With absolutely no signs of slowing down, Hayley kicked off 2019 on the road for her sold-out European Encore headline tour. For more information, visit www.hayleykiyokoofficial.com.

Jon Bellion’s “Stupid Deep” Video

JON BELLION SHARES OFFICIAL VIDEO FOR “STUPID DEEP”

Single Is From His New Album, Glory Sound Prep

North American Headline Tour Kicks Off June 12

Today, Jon Bellion revealed the official video for his current single, “Stupid Deep.” The New York-based artist partnered with director Daniel Brown (ODESZA, Portugal. The Man) to weave a mythic tale of self-discovery that is set at sea. Bellion did all the visual effects himself. View “Stupid Deep”  HERE.

Bellion will launch an extensive North American amphitheater tour on June 12 at The Met in Philadelphia. The summer headline run, produced by Live Nation, will include a July 12 concert at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre and an August 10 hometown show at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater on Long Island. See below for itinerary. Tickets are available here.

“Stupid Deep” is from Bellion’s new album, Glory Sound Prep (Capitol Records/Visionary Music Group), which includes collaborations with GRAMMY-winning producer Quincy Jones, Roc Marciano, RZA, B.Keyz and Travis Mendes. Billboard said, “Bellion seamlessly intertwines sounds of pop, R&B, hip-hop and rock through his electrifying songs.” AllMusic praised it as “Epic in scope” and noted, “Glory Sound Prep sees Jon Bellion again alternating effervescent dance-pop, melodic reflections, and more fractured, urgent hip-hop. This time, he draws on an even broader sound palette that incorporates synths, strings, horns and more.”

Glory Sound Prep is the follow-up to his RIAA Gold-certified 2016 debut album, The Human Condition, which has sold more than 1.5 million adjusted albums and amassed upwards of 1.7 billion cumulative streams. “All Time Low,” the lead single, was a Top 10 hit at Top 40 radio and is now certified 3x Platinum.

Bellion got his start with a series of mixtapes featuring his original songs all recorded in his parents’ basement. He built a remarkable following by sharing his music directly with listeners, giving away more than 200,000 free downloads of 2014’s The Definition and playing live for fans on two sold-out national tours. Also a sought-after collaborator, Bellion co-wrote and produced “Trumpets” for Jason Derulo and co-wrote the GRAMMY Award winning, 10x-Platinum hit “The Monster” for Eminem and Rihanna. He co-wrote and co-produced Christina Aguilera’s 2018 single, “Fall in Line” featuring Demi Lovato.
