GLAD Nominees Bash

“GLAD Nominees Bash” was a magic night full of stars!

Dazzling participation of GLAD Empire artists in “Premios Tu Musica Urbano”

Watch HERE!

Last Wednesday, March 20, the rooftop of the prestigious Hotel La Concha witnessed the “GLAD Nominees Batch” celebration and recognition cocktail. The event was dedicated to all its clients represented by GLAD Empire, a company specialized in the distribution of music and content.

An elegant evening on the occasion of Las Vegas, held its red carpet event for first edition Tu Música Urbano Awards nominees of the company. They spent the following day in the Choliseo of Puerto Rico.

“The purpose of this event is to celebrate the success of all these independent artists and to know that we are proud of all their effort and sacrifice. I want them to know that they are all winners, and we celebrate and take pride in the completion of the first edition of an award dedicated to the urban genre and produced on our island by Puerto Rican entrepreneurs, “ said Camille Soto, president of GLAD Empire.

Artists of GLAD Empire had 20 nominations within the “Premios Tu Música Urbano 2019”, earning the category of “Remix of the year” with the theme “Te Bote Remix” by the artists Nio García, Casper Mágico, Darell, Ozuna, Bad Bunny and Nicky Jam. “Te Bote Remix” has become a musical urban phenomenon, being certified 53 times by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association) and continues to climb positions in the Billboard Hot Latin Songs Chart for 47 consecutive weeks.

Apart from all of the nominations and awards received, the artists also performed live. Myke Towers performed with Farruko, playing the song “Si Se Da”, his latest promotional single that is currently at number 26 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs list. J Alvarez and Olga Tañon also performed, premiering their dynamic collaboration, “Que Fluya”, accompanied by a colorful and energetic body of dance. Brytiago and Darell also delighted the audience with their song “Asesina”.

One of the most applauded moments was the great closing, where several themes that marked the urban musical beginnings were performed by the pioneers of the genre; Alberto Stylee, Yaviah, Chezina and MC Ceja, the latter also being the owner of Glad Empire. This participation was presented and enlivened by the musical producers and DJ pioneers of this musical movement; DJ Nelson, DJ Playero and DJ Negro.

Appropriate Protein Intake

Okayama University research: Estimating appropriate protein intake

In a recent study published in eLife scientists at Okayama show how proteins can hamper an organism’s growth

Biochemists have shown that very high protein levels can be harmful to cells in the human body. However, exactly which proteins fall under this category remains a mystery. Mr.Yuichi Eguchi (graduate student) and Associate Professor Hisao Moriya’s research team at Okayama University recently reported a framework for discriminating between which proteins are toxic at excessive levels and which are not.

The theory behind this phenomenon, also known as the protein burden, is that accumulation of excessive protein within the cell will deplete the cell of resources, such as energy. The limit required to reach this burden though, is not the same for all proteins. Green fluorescent protein (GFP) is a harmless protein artificially introduced into cells for visualizing the insides of the cell. When GFP levels were increased within yeast cells, they found that GFP up to 15% of total protein content was harmless to the cells. Using this measure as a standard, Associate Professor Hisao Moriya’s team set out to estimate the burden limit of functional proteins in the cells. 29 proteins essential for energy production were subsequently over-produced.

While many of these proteins also had limits close to 15%, suggestive of their harmless nature, some of the proteins showed growth retardation and other unpleasant effects at lower levels. One such protein was found to accumulate within the mitochondria. Clogging the mitochondria prevents cells from producing oxygen. Another protein was found to undergo structural changes and aggregate into big pieces. Another reason for some of these proteins having a low burden limit, was due to metabolic disturbances induced when they were produced even slightly higher than usual. When these proteins were inactivated by mutations, their burden limit increased. Lastly, the researchers also found that certain proteins showed growth retardation, even at very low levels. Further investigation revealed that such proteins are programmed to remain at inherently low levels. Therefore, even small changes to their concentrations can be dangerous.

This study paved a framework for biologists to make distinctions between proteins based on how toxic they are when present in abnormal amounts. These differences could be attributed to the function, structure or genetic programming for that protein. Scientists can hope to use this framework to investigate proteins that are associated with diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson’s disease.

Background

The protein burden: Each protein has a distinct function within cells. Proteins are found in millions within the cell, and are synthesized or increased when required. Their levels subside when the cell doesn’t require them anymore. In certain conditions, such as neurodegenerative disorders, the levels of some proteins inherently remain high. Because the cell is not used to this, a battle to reduce these proteins ensues. This not only uses up the cell’s energy but damages the cell in the process.

By measuring the expression level that causes growth defect (expression limit), Eguchi and Moriya established a framework to distinguish harmful proteins from harmless proteins upon overexpression. They also found that some proteins were harmful upon overexpression because; they form aggregation through cysteine residues (S-S bond), they are transported into mitochondria, and they trigger metabolic perturbation.

Soneva – the world-leading luxury and sustainable resort operator – will be hosting renowned American glass artists Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen and Jasen Johnsen as guest artists in residence at Soneva Fushi’s Art studio from April 8-29, 2019. During these showcases, guests can watch along as Karen and Jasen create beautiful sculpture out of recycled glass and purchase the artwork from the exhibition.

Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen’s work is derived from her love of adventure, nature and glass. Raised in Ohio, the naturalist daughter of a naturalist father, Willenbrink-Johnsen is “constantly inspired, revitalized and awed by the power of nature.” After earning her BFA in sculpture from Ohio University, glass quickly became the driving force in Karen’s life. After moving to Washington State in 1987, she began working as an assistant to the legendary glass artist William Morris. Karen’s unique vision and passion for glass is evident in her work, which has been shown extensively in galleries and museums throughout the US and internationally. She co-teaches sculpting classes throughout the world with her husband and collaborator, Jasen Johnsen. Jasen served as the head studio technician at Pilchuck Glass School for nearly 10 years. Urban music singer Brytiago is celebrating his two awards Urban Music New Urban Artist and National Song of the Year for “Murder” with the collaboration of Darell. The awards were held in the emblematic “Choliseo” of Puerto Rico this Thursday before most of the urban singers gathered at this first gala where they recognized the most prominent of the genre.

Aaron Carpenter “Attitude”

Download / Stream Attitude HERE

Attitude. The debut single from Aaron Carpenter, is out now and available for download / streaming HERE The Neptunes, Chad Hugo, and London-based electronic musician SG Lewis produced the club-ready track, which captures the pure rush of instant attraction. Carpenter penned Attitude with the producers and Scott Harris (Julia Michaels, The Chainsmokers). The song showcases his soul-pop sensibilities, pairing Carpenters dreamy falsetto and brightly soaring vocals with slinky grooves and funky saxophone work. View the visualizer for Attitude HERE. Watch for the official video to premiere soon.

As announced earlier this week in Billboard, Carpenter has signed to Capitol Records. In this interview, the 20-year-old self-taught musician talks about how his social media success paved the way for him to move from Shreveport, Louisiana to Los Angeles to pursue his musical ambitions. Carpenter co-founded the MAGCON tour, which took him and other social media influencers across the U.S. to meet their fans. He has more than 7.5 million followers across his socials.

“Where I’m from, pursuing music is much more difficult than it is in a lot of other places,” says Aaron Carpenter. “For a long time, I kept my music secret from everyone, but at some point, I realized I had to just go for it.”

In 2015, he shared a video in which he performed a cover of Jason Mrazs ‘I’m Yours’ on ukulele. From there, Carpenter continued posting covers, with each video spotlighting the powerful vocal presence he’d honed partly by singing in the church choir and in school musicals. The videos received an overwhelmingly positive response, but Carpenter wanted to push much further with his music. “I didn’t want to get attention for singing other people’s songs” he explains. “I wanted to share my own songs and make it something really personal.”

Soon after that realization, Carpenter packed up and moved to L.A., where he immersed himself in writing songs and learning guitar and piano. After a chance meeting at a party, Carpenter connected with his managers, who were impressed by his demos and scheduled him for a songwriting session. Collaborating with other writers and producers helped him refine his musical vision, shaping an immensely catchy R&B-pop sound informed by his lifelong appreciation of artists like Marvin Gaye and Al Green.

“I love how some music can just take you right back to a specific moment in your life and bring up all these really happy memories that wouldn’t come up otherwise,” he says. “I’d love to do that for other people with my music: to take them to a place where nothing else matters in the world, and they can just have a good time.”

Durango SRT 392

By Tara McDonough x Vaughn Lowery

Durango SRT 392

Starting at the base price of $62,995, the Dodge Durango SRT 392 reinvents the idea of what an SUV is capable of. Recently, 360 MAGAZINE took the Durango from LA to Vegas, toting Diesel, a 200 lb English Mastiff with room to spare. This three row truck not only provides enough space for a family of up to seven, but entertainment options to keep kids busy as well. Among the numerous technology options provided in the SRT is an 8-speed automatic transmission and the ability to tow up to 8,700 lbs.

PERFORMANCE

This remote start system is fit with large mirrors and optional blind-spot warning to provide exceptional visibility. While maintaining the heavy feel of a truck, the Durango provides a composed and planted drive, free of any harsh motions or jiggling. It can reach a higher volume at full throttle, but when cruising noise remains at a peaceful minimum due to its active noise canceling system. This allows the Durango to provide a perfect setting for a family road trip. Under its vented hood lies a 475 hp worth of Hemi V-8 driving all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic, permitting the Durango to go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and braking from 60 mph in 125 ft. The Brembo six piston high-performance brakes feel moderate to soft with long-travel strokes. It is precise and weighted, able to perform quick U-turns and maintains a comfortable slack at freeway speeds. The Durango has 7 SRT drive modes which include street, sport, track, snow, tow, valet, and eco. It’s 4-wheel drive, traction control and low-range gearing provide real off-road capabilities as well. With an annual fuel cost of $3,000, the Durango uses 6.7 gallons per 100 miles.

EXTERIOR

In this newest model appearances can be deceiving, similar to a Transformer in its versatility and markings and easily passing as Bumblebee’s cherry colored cousin. While the Durango is a perfect family car, it maintains a sporty and bold exterior. The model is equipped with 20-inch x 10-inch black noise wheels and 295/45ZR20 BSW all season tires. The clean lines and seamless stitching of the Durango are refined and reminiscent of European auto offerings. The style of this SUV is edgy, racy and customizable as well.

INTERIOR

Inside are three rows of leather-trimmed bucket seats with suede inserts. The driver’s seat is supportive and adjustable. The Durango is one of the most spacious three-row SUVs, ideal for children, as well as adults, to fit comfortably in all of the cabin’s seating positions. Second row seats flip and fold in order to gain access to third row seats, which provide a surprising amount of space; optimal for families spending ample amounts of time in the car. Front and second row seats are also equipped with heating and ventilation options.

SAFETY

As for safety, this vehicle offers; Blind-Spot Monitoring, illuminating a light on either of the Durango’s side mirrors; Forward Collision Warning, which helps prevent collisions by sounding an alert when the Durango detects an imminent collision; and Lane Departure Warning Plus, which sounds a warning if the Durango begins to drift from its lane without a turn signal being activated. The Durango received great results when tested for side impact, roof strength, and rear crash protection / head restraint.

TECHNOLOGY

Among the amenities of this vehicle are Uconnect 4C NAV with 8.4-inch display, SiriusXM traffic plus, a 4G LTE Wi-fi Hot Spot, and 9 Alpine amplified speakers with subwoofer. The media hub also comes with Apple Carplay and Google Android Auto capabilities.

A current tech option available for the Durango is an 825-watt Harman/Kardon sound system boasting 19 speakers. The sound system provides a listening experience similar to sitting front row at a concert with your favorite artists singing right into your ear.

Additional options include; rear DVD entertainment center with blu-ray compatible dual screen video and rear seat video system, a power sunroof, a second-row console with armrest and storage including 1 USB charging port, 12-volt auxiliary power outlet, third-row full-console floor mat and illuminated rear cup holders, and a hand-wrapped dashboard and live stitch with real carbon fiber interior accents.

The Durango SRT 392 is a highly successful crossover SUV combining high end speed and design with durability, space and safety for the family. It gives off a muscle-car attitude wrapped in a family-friendly package, causing the model to embody two cars in one. The Durango combines the best of both worlds for parents who want to ride in style and make sure their children are happy and comfortable. With it’s roaring Hemi V-8 and dual-purpose nature, the Durango can do no wrong. The Durango remains one of the most capable and well-rounded three-row crossovers you can buy, making it possible to please every member of the family.
