Lime Scooters

By Vaughn Lowery x Krishan Narsinghani x Alexandria Baiz

Across the globe, Lime scooters are the newest ride for transportation and commute. One may have seen these green-tinted electric motor scooters zooming down major city roads in Los Angeles, Paris and even university campuses. With over 100 markets and 5 countries there is plenty of supply, and all one needs to do is download the Lime app to find the nearest scooter. With LED front lamps, green recessed lighting and red LED taillights for nighttime riders, Limes are functional at all times of the day in major cities. Technology in automation advances as the little green boxes on each scooter contain a GPS system and 3G built-in hardware to track the location and route of each ride. Aggregating routes and location data is vital for cities so that there is proof of this pilot program performance and for future infrastructure to be aware of heavily utilized routes.

The logistics of the Lime scooters are easy to follow with instructions accessible every step of the way on the Lime app. Depending on location, (ex. California State Law) riders must be 18 and over and required to wear a helmet. Helmets are offered for free through the local business partners, which can also be found on the app. To avoid clutter on streets, users are required to submit parking photos at the end of each ride to ensure the scooter is parked responsibly. Docking stations are also being added – physical locations like Monrovia and Santa Monica will soon be paired with designated parking locations.

Rides are effortless and affordable. Costing one dollar to unlock and fifteen cents per minute, rates beat that of car share fares. Take a solo trip to get to work or visit a hot attraction with a group of friends. 360 Magazine had the opportunity of riding a group of scooters throughout Los Angeles, revealing a beautiful scenic ride for any tourist or local in the area. Explore the Ballona Creek bike path, an 8.8-mile-long waterway that extends as a shortcut from Central LA to the coast of Venice. Enjoy a traffic-free, uninterrupted riding trail that offers rest stops and views for a perfect sunny day.

Transforming the mobility of cities into a clean environment is a major win in Los Angeles, especially with limited transit systems, it’s a great alternative to keep traffic and pollution under control. Diving in further, Lime travels up to 20 miles in distance and speeds up to 14.8 MPH. Lime Access offers a 95% discount on pedal bike rides and 50% discount on electric scooter rides. Lime Access is eligible for riders who belong to any state/federally-run assistance program in order to make Lime accessible for all. Download the Lime app today and use promo code “360MAG” to get a special discount and embark on a new experience where #CitrusGotReal.

BOBBY SESSIONS DISCUSSES HIP HOP

Bobby Sessions quit his job to pursue his dream of becoming a recording artist full-time. Exactly one year later, he released his debut indie album the Law Of Attraction (LOA), a passionate and fiery project influenced by the artists he grew up on as a kid from Dallas, Texas – from Jay-Z to James Brown to N.E.R.D. The hunger he has for motivating people through his words can’t be ignored: it’s in each and every song, interview, and performance. A blistering, concentrated lyricist and speaker, Sessions is constantly focused and determined to attract the energy of those around him – whether onstage performing for fans or in the studio focused on his craft. LAO was followed by a second album, grateful, a jazzy, self-aware reminder to be thankful. “Every freedom, every privilege, every great thing happening in our lives, down to your eyesight, each breath… we should put 100% of our energy into being grateful for that,” Sessions said. His 2018 signing to Def Jam Recordings raised his profile with the arrival of “Like Me” and “Pick A Side” early in the year, followed by RVLTN – Chapter 1: The Divided States of AmeriKKKa in July. Most recently, Sessions introduced the title track to the critically acclaimed movie The Hate U Give.

Multi-platinum, chart-dominating artists Post Malone & Swae Lee are on the first single from the upcoming soundtrack, “Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse)”. Sony Pictures Entertainment and Republic Records have teamed up for the first time to create a contemporary musical companion for the upcoming feature film. The two camps worked closely to create a soundtrack in support of the multi-cultural protagonist of the film, Miles Morales. The music from the soundtrack will span multiple genres including Hip Hop, Latin and Pop and look to portray what a teen like Miles is listening to across the country.

From the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, comes Spider-Man™: Into the Spider-Verse, a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind.  Spider-Man™: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask. Directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman from a screenplay by Phil Lord and Rodney Rothman and story by Phil Lord, the producers are Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and Christina Steinberg.

“Post and Swae have delivered a song that’s both heroic and emotional, which is exactly what a Spider-Man story needs.  It’s anthemic, but also heartfelt — the perfect soundtrack for Miles to discover the Spider-Man inside himself,” said Spring Aspers, Head of Music, Creative Affairs Worldwide for Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group.

MAJOR ARCANA

Following its World Premiere in September at the Raindance Film Festival in London, MAJOR ARCANA will have its North American Premiere, in competition, at the Austin Film Festival on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. at the Hideout Theatre617 Congress Ave. in Austin, TX.

MAJOR ARCANA is the first film for writer/director Josh Melrod, a successful editor whose previous credits include the Austin-based short film SKUNK, produced by MA producer Sarah Brennan Kolb and a First Prize Cinefondation winner at Cannes.

The result of their new collaboration is MAJOR ARCANA, an intimate, evocative film about Fate and the quest for Redemption, as well as a vivid depiction of the rural working class. The story, both universal and resonant to our uncertain times, reveals the struggles of Dink, a long-troubled, itinerant carpenter who returns to his home in the backwoods of Vermont and begins the desperate struggle to build a log cabin by hand, hoping in the process to prove to the people closest to him that he has turned his life around.

The cabin that was actually constructed over a grueling 22-day production schedule in the resulting 82-minute film is, in builder’s terms, known as a post & beam construction. This method of building foregoes easier-to-use nails in lieu of finely crafted mortise-and-tenon joints and relies on gravity to hold the structure together. This kind of construction also relies on skills and mindfulness on the part of the carpenter, leaving little to no room for errors. This methodology becomes a metaphor in Dink’s efforts to regain his core self.

In casting Barnard, VT-native and first-time actor Ujon Tokarski as Dink, Melrod says: “So much of the story involves the physical act of building a cabin, and I knew we needed an actor who could handle that. Ujon was the only person who not only had the experience of chopping down trees and dragging 600-pound logs through the woods, he wanted to do these things! More importantly he had life experience and scars that were so much a part of Dink!”

This subtle, nuanced and deeply moving film also revolves around rising star Tara Summers (Mercy Street, AMC’s Dietland), film and Broadway veteran Lane Bradbury (Scorsese’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, the original Dainty June in Gypsy). Tokarski, who actually is a carpenter in real life, plies this trade in a star-making performance. The film also benefits from an original song by Gary Lightbody of the band Snow Patrol.

Writer/director Josh Melrod, lead actor Ujon Tokarski and producer Sarah Brennan Kolb will be on hand for a Q&A following immediately after the premier. A repeat screening will be held Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 3:15 p.m. at Galaxy Highland screen 8 at 6700 Middle Fiskville Rd. in Austin.
