Maggie Rogers’ “Give A Little” Out Today

If you haven’t heard of Maggie Rogers yet..it’s about time you seriously do.

Just earlier today, the 24-year old music artist released her new song “Give A Little” that is available for listening on Spotify and the song is available for download HERE

Produced by Grammy-award winning producer, Greg Kurstin, Rogers’ new upbeat song exhibits a soft touch of romance as it is aground by darkness and defensiveness.

Kurstin has previously worked with Adele, Sia, Foo Fighters and many others so it’s to no surprise that his help with Rogers’ “Give A Little” is such a success already.

Ever since Rogers released her first album The Echo back in 2012, her talent in the music industry has evolved and blossomed into something more beautiful every time. This change is evident throughout her music over the course of years as she gains an even larger fan base during the process.

Interested in seeing where Rogers will be showing? She will be the headline for two sold out shows at Koko in London which takes place the 29th and 30th of August, following her performances at the U.K.’s Reading and Leeds Festival at the BBC Radio 1 Stage.

Pilgrimage Music & Cultural Festival is yet another event where Rogers’ will be performing at which takes place on the 22nd and 23rd of September.

Did you think that was the last of Maggie Rogers’ appearance this year? Think not! She will also perform as a co-headline at All Things Go Fall Classic which is one of Washington D.C.’s LARGEST signature festivals. By her side on October 6th is also LPX (Lizzy Plapinger).

A fan of hers already? We knew you would. You can all her tour dates right here –RSVP fast!

As for her “Give A Little” song, stay tuned in the next upcoming weeks for her official music video!

Day Two of Lollapalooza

The BMI Stage at Lollapalooza rocks on for day two of the famous festival. From pop and rock to hip-hop and EDM, the BMI Stage has a little something for everyone. Post-punk/rock band Mainland hits the stage first, followed by hip-hop blending emo rocker nothing, nowhere. Infamous trio CKY are prepared to show how far they’ve come since their days on the hit TV-series Jackass and Australian exports Chase Atlantic will keep the music pumping with their alt-pop vibes. Rising rap star, Buddy, will hit the stage next with a high energy set before R.LUM.R rounds out the performances with his signature smooth soul grooves.

BMI STAGE SCHEDULE – FRIDAY, AUGUST 3rd

MAINLAND | 1:00-1:40pm

Finding elegance in simplicity, California-via-Brooklyn band Mainland play a passionate blend of powerful rock rife with soaring choruses and chiming hooks that recalls garage-y New York City bands from the turn of the millennium. After independently releasing their Shiner EP in 2014, they landed a deal with 300 Entertainment as one of the label’s marquee acts. Following the release of the Outcast EP a year later, they dropped fan-favorite singles such as “Beggars” and “Permission Slip” – which both amassed over 1 million Spotify streams each. Between touring, the musicians recorded the songs comprising their 2018 full-length debut, led by the single “I Found God,” about the spiritual connection that arises when you experience real love communicated through sounds and visuals.

nothing,nowhere.2:10 – 2:50pm

The enigmatic guise of Vermont singer/songwriter Joe Mulherin, nothing, nowhere. plays an introspective blend of hip-hop and guitar-driven emo rock. While he continually hides his face in videos and promotional photographs, Mulherin’s lyrics pull out all stops in baring his soul. His most recent album, Ruiner, is an emotive exercise in catchy catharsis.

CKY | 3:20 – 4:00pm

Notorious in the 2000’s for their raucous sound and anarchic, hard-partying skate-punk aesthetic both onstage and off, Pennsylvania’s CKY are back with 2017’s The Phoenix, their first new album in eight years. While not necessarily a kinder, gentler ensemble, the CKY of 2018 is comprised of grown men who are feverishly devoted to delivering rock from its pretentious doldrums and serving up their music in as raw and authentic a manner as possible

CHASE ATLANTIC | 4:30 – 5:10pm

Chase Atlantic was formed by brothers, Mitchel Cave and Clinton Cave, and their longtime friend, Christian Anthony. The trio produces, performs, and passionately conjures up dark alternative pop punctuated by rock and R&B. This Australian group blurs the lines between a nocturnal aesthetic and primal bliss on their 2017 self-titled debut for Warner Bros. Records. Since forming in 2011, the trio has packed multiple headline tours across Australia, released two successful independent EPs, Dalliance [2014] and Nostalgia [2015], and spawned a viral single with “Friends” which garnered over 2.7 million Spotify plays. Now, their first single “Church” invites everyone to congregate in their world.

BUDDY | 5:40 – 6:20pm

While he hails from the hip-hop-heavy streets of Compton, CA, Buddy (a.k.a. Simmie Sims III) is devoted to a message of positivity. Initially signed by Pharrell and tapped for collaborations with Kendrick Lamar and Chance the Rapper, Buddy’s restless muse demanded that he pursue his own path, paving the way for his full-length album, Harlan & Alondra, a lush mix of retro R&B, chilled-out rap and jam-heavy funk, featuring cameos from A$AP Ferg and Ty Dolla Sign. “It’s beautiful day music,” says Buddy of his optimistic debut.

R.LUM.R | 6:50 – 7:30pm

Broadly praised by outlets like NPR Music, The New York Times, Complex, Vibe, Billboard and Rolling Stone (who called him “an artist you need to know”), R. LUM. R, also known as Reginald Lamar Williams, Jr., is an ascendant R&B singer/songwriter creating warm, soulful music that is resonating with listeners. Romanced and inspired by the city’s song-storytelling tradition, R.LUM.R has settled in Nashville, where he’s been steadily building a following with his acoustic guitar, piercing falsetto and original songs. On his debut EP, After Image, all six tracks were recorded live in single takes, augmented by a string quartet. Asked to describe his music, he says “it’s ‘R&B/singer-songwriter/soul/electronic, but,” he adds, “I don’t want to limit myself.”

The Disappearance of Crystal Rogers

Oxygen Media, the destination for high-quality crime programming, dives head first into the unnerving and complex story of a small town shrouded in secrets in the six-part event series, “The Disappearance of Crystal Rogers,” beginning Saturday, August 11 at 7pm ET/PT with a two-hour premiere. This is the third installment of the hit “Disappearance of…” franchise, following the previous cases of Natalee Holloway and Maura Murray. What begins as an exploration into the mysterious circumstances surrounding Crystal Rogers, a mother of five vanishing from the tiny town of Bardstown, Kentucky, quickly spirals into the dissection of multiple unsolved homicides haunting this idyllic, heartland community. Presumed dead and the victim of foul play, it has been over two years and there have been no arrests made in Crystal’s case. Additionally, Crystal’s father, Tommy Ballard, who was conducting his own 16-month investigation into his daughter’s disappearance, was shot down and died, leaving a box of clues behind. This series will follow Emmy Award-nominated reporter Stephanie Bauer and veteran homicide detective Dwayne Stanton, who has worked on celebrity cases and more than 750 homicide investigations, as they relentlessly unearth new leads, insights and information. For a sneak peek, visit http://www.oxygen.com/the-disappearance-of-crystal-rogers/season-1/videos/the-disappearance-of-crystal-rogers-premieres.

Stephanie and Dwayne recruit several experts to help dig deep into the mysterious and potentially connected unsolved crimes in Bardstown. Together, they’ll draw on Dwayne’s many years of hard earned experience, Stephanie’s relentless quest for answers and the many clues that Tommy Ballard left behind when his investigation was suddenly and violently cut short. Additionally, they’ll need to tread carefully so as not to interfere with the open investigation being conducted by the Kentucky State Police. The authorities acknowledge that having so many unsolved crimes in such a small town is atypical; the question remains, what secrets lie just underneath in Bardstown?

Emolument Clause Lawsuit

In ruling yesterday that an Emoluments Clause lawsuit can proceed against President Trump, a federal judge today relied heavily on scholarship by Professor John Mikhail of Georgetown Law.

In a short video, Prof. Mikhail recently explained what his research found about the original public meaning of “emolument.”

(Watch it on Facebook, Twitter or YouTube).

This definition is central to the case.

Today Judge Messitte citied Prof. Mikhail extensively and then sided with his conclusion, writing:

“In the Court’s view, the decisive weight of historical evidence supports the conclusion that the common understanding of the term ’emolument’ during the founding era was that it covered any profit, gain, or advantage, including profits from private transactions. Consideration of the purpose of both Emoluments Clauses confirms the broad interpretation of the term suggested by Plaintiffs.”

Demi Lovato’s Overdose

25-year-old American singer, songwriter, and actress, Demi Lovato was found lying unconscious in her home on Tuesday after a suspected overdose. She is currently recovering and receiving treatment at a hospital in LA. Lovato has stated how she has previously had issues dealing with eating disorders, self-harm, addiction, and mental health problems. She had also made a documentary regarding her struggles that affected her daily life along with trying to stay sober, but in June 2018 Lovato released a new song titled Sober in which she sings “I’m not sober anymore.” Her documentary went on explaining how these problems began at a very young age, such as having suicidal thoughts and bulimia when she was only 10 years old, and trying cocaine for the first time when she was 17. Even before starting the hit series on Disney Channel’s “Sonny with a Chance” and “Camp Rock,” she had been a huge target for bullying. There were many struggles and pressures on her as she drove quickly to fame at such a young age. Lovato is currently receiving lots of support from fans and celebrities throughout social media while wishing her a quick recovery.

Best Places for Millennials to Start a Business

  • Tallinn beats the US and Canadian competition to be crowned the world’s most attractive city for millennials to start up a business.
  • New research from GoCompare has measured cities according to metrics essential for young entrepreneurs, including the availability of early-stage business funding and cost of living.

  • Insights into the innovative hubs of the future, and highlights what aspiring cities need to improve to feature more highly.

Dubbed the ‘global generation’, over half of all millennials would consider moving abroad for work opportunities, and an increasing amount are starting their own business ventures. With possibilities of owning a home becoming increasingly difficult in the world’s cities, rent prices soaring and the political climate changing, research shows that millennials are less financially stable compared to previous generations.

GoCompare has released data to reveal the best places for millennials to start a business, measuring ease of registering property, starting and running a business on a day-to-day level, trading across borders, and diversity, among other metrics.

New research has revealed Tallinn in Estonia to be the world’s best city for millennials starting a business, with Canada winning as a country overall – with four of its major cities, Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto featuring in the top ten.

Millennials are the backbone of the “digital nomad” generation, meaning finding hubs for opportunities, innovation and entrepreneurialism are becoming increasingly more sought after.

The Top 5 Locations include:

  • Tallinn – A reputation for being digitally savvy, tops the leaderboard owing to a combination of the ease of registering property, and starting and running a business. Estonia scored 6.5 for the cost of living, the best score compared to all European, and North American cities.

  • Toronto – Canada’s leading city in tech innovation, Toronto offers the best business funding in the country. With four of its major cities featured in the top ten, Toronto comes in second to London with an impressive 10,000 WiFi hotspots available citywide.

  • New Zealand – Named as #1 for starting and running a business with a perfect score of 10, New Zealand also ranks at #4 for biotech potential – with the highest density of PhD graduates in Life Sciences in the world. New Zealand also scores highly for their diversity rating with a score of 6.7 making it one of the best places for women and immigrants to start businesses.

  • Singapore – Despite having higher living costs than London, Singapore scores highly for starting and running a business, making it attractive for tech startups – being home to over 270 Fintech startups. However, the financial hub also scores highly for diversity, with an impressive score of 6.9.

  • London – With London’s tech sector fuelling the growth for its digital economy, the capital ranked 2nd to Silicon Valley and Singapore for diversity – with 42% of business owners originally from outside the UK. Despite a high living cost, London still scores highly amongst all other metrics making it a popular destination for entrepreneurs.

What are millennial entrepreneurs looking for?

With opportunities to travel and being globally-connected being important to mostmillennialss, many are looking outside of their home countries to start their own businesses. Here are some of the key factors in attracting young entrepreneurs:

Digitally-Savvy Cities

Digital connectivity is a non-negotiable in the 21st century working world, where location-independent entrepreneurs are set to dominate.

  • Despite not featuring in the top ten, Moscow leads the way for public wifi hotspots, offering a total of 41,250

  • Helsinki offers the fastest internet connectivity, racing ahead with 17.4mbps

  • Ironically, the Silicon Valley offers some of the slowest Wifi, at 3.7mbps

Diversity is Key

Diversity in business broadly equates to fairer representation across the whole of society. In this study, diversity was ranked according to the relative number of businesses with female and/or immigrant founders.

  • With 31%, Silicon Valley led the way on the diversity front

  • London (17%) lagged behind New York (25.5%), Chicago (24.5%) and Paris (26.5%)

  • Cape Town and Seoul came second and third overall for diversity, with 28.5% and 28% respectively of their businesses founded by minorities

Cost of Living

Millennials around the world are notoriously trapped by soaring rents and ever-less attainable property ladders.

  • Of the top ten, the stats reveal that most have a relatively high cost of living, however, Ottawa and Vancouver are notable exceptions

  • Perhaps surprisingly, Singapore and even New Zealand are ranked as having a higher cost of living than London.

The top 10 can be viewed in detail here, with an overall breakdown here.
