Misconceptions of Driving an Electric Vehicle

Whitley, UK: Jaguar has today launched an intelligent app designed to help motorists experience life with an electric vehicle (EV), before actually owning one.

The Go I-PACE App captures journey data on a smartphone, notifying customers of how much money they’d be saving per trip, and how much battery they’d be consuming – delivering a clear indication of the time frame customers could go without charging their car.

In recent years, there has been a worldwide acceptance of electric vehicles, with over 1.9 million battery electric vehicles used globally in 2017. China is currently ranked as the largest market for all-electric vehicles, though countries like the US and Norway are also growing considerably, often triggered by government incentives such as subsidies and exemption from toll and parking fees.

According to recent reports by ‘The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders’ (SMMT), many British drivers are still mistrustful or confused when it comes to pure electric cars. Research has shown that more than 52% of consumers are interested in purchasing electric cars, but hesitate due to concerns such finding a charging spot, or not feeling like they know enough about how an EV actually works.

As a result, Jaguar has teamed up with Presenter and Independent EV Expert Robert Llewelyn, to help customers realise the benefits and simplicity of actually owning an electric vehicle.

Robert commented: “It can be hard for drivers to understand how an EV would fit into their day-to-day lives. The Go I-PACE app makes this possible by providing personalised information about how the Jaguar I-PACE could work for them based on real-world data. I’ve no doubt the app will surprise many users with the scale of the potential cost savings and by revealing how little change to their driving habits I-PACE ownership would actually make.”

With many governments around the world, including the UK, intending to cut emissions and improve air quality by 2030, the Go I-PACE app gives motorists the chance to prepare for the future.

The app is free to download and available now on Apple devices, and will be coming soon for Android:

Cleanup of Contaminated Soil and Sediment

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that cleanup work will begin this summer to address soil and sediment contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at the Dewey Loeffel Landfill Superfund site in the town of Nassau, N.Y. The General Electric Company (GE) will remove contaminated soil and sediment, replace it with clean backfill, restore the stream channel, and re-plant trees and shrubs. The work will begin this summer and will be completed this fall.

“Superfund is at the very core of EPA’s mission and this important cleanup work will address one potential source of contamination at the Dewey Loeffel site,” said EPA Regional Administrator Pete Lopez. “EPA is working closely with the community and is expanding its efforts to involve stakeholders as we advance this cleanup forward working closely with our state and local government partners.”

EPA will hold a public information session on July 17 in Nassau to provide an overview of the recently completed field investigation activities and the upcoming cleanup. EPA will also discuss the opportunity for the formation of a community advisory group (CAG) for the site. A CAG is made up of members of the community and is designed to serve as the focal point for the exchange of information among the local community and EPA, the state regulatory agency, and other pertinent federal agencies involved in cleanup of the Superfund site.

A public information session will begin at 6:00 p.m., with a formal presentation beginning at 7:00 p.m. Members of the project team will be available to answer questions about current and planned project activities.

St. Mary’s Church

Parish Hall (behind the church)

26 Church Street, Nassau, N.Y.

Background:

The stream to be addressed, technically known as Tributary T11A, is a 1,900-foot stream which flows into the Valatie Kill. The sediment and adjacent shoreline soil of Tributary T11A is contaminated with elevated levels of PCBs, which serve as a potential ongoing source of contamination to downstream areas, such as Nassau Lake. In September 2017, the EPA, working with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), reached an agreement with GE to conduct the T11A cleanup.

Between 1952 and 1968, an estimated 46,000 tons of industrial waste material generated by several Capital District companies was sent to the Dewey Loeffel Landfill site. The waste included industrial solvents, waste oil, PCBs, scrap materials, sludge and solids. From 1980 until the site was added to the federal Superfund list in 2011, numerous investigations and cleanup actions were performed at the site by GE and the NYSDEC. The cleanup work in Tributary T11A is an immediate action that is being taken to address contaminated soil and sediment in the tributary while the EPA’s long-term comprehensive study of the site continues.

Kailee Morgue US Tour With Poppy

Today Kailee Morgue announces she will be heading on a U.S. fall tour with Poppy for her Am I A Girl? Tour. Artist pre-sale tickets go on sale Wednesday, July 11th at 10am local timeand general on-sale begins Friday, July 13th at 10am local time at www.kaileemorgue.com.

Having just sold out her debut headline shows in New York and Los Angeles, Morgue jumps to theaters by joining Poppy’s fall twenty-date run through North America, including top cities Los Angeles (The Wiltern on October 31st), New York (Irving Plaza on November 20th) and Washington D.C. (9:30 Club on November 24th).

Recently Morgue released “Do You Feel This Way (Feat. Whethan). Check out the track here!

Of the song, Morgue says, “This is one of my favorite songs I’ve made because it is off axis just enough to blur my perspective between haunting and inviting. Teaming up with Whethan brought the perfect blend of hazy lethargy and upbeat skepticism to the track. It captures the unease of that feeling of not knowing how someone truly feels about you, and it still always makes me want to move when I hear it—it’s so fun to perform.”

“Do You Feel This Way” (feat. Whethan) follows Morgue’s single “F**k U”and her 2017 breakout track, “Medusa,” which catapulted her into an overnight success after she posted a live performance of the song on Twitter. “Medusa” became the title track from her debut EP, which was also released last fall and features her hit single, “Discovery.”

Tattooed, multi-color haired and anime-obsessed 19-year-old Phoenix-based gothic pop siren, Kailee Morgue, casts a sonic spell with her music. A self-described “introvert” and the second oldest of six kids, she found solace in the sounds of fellow sonic sorceresses, such as Stevie Nicks and Gwen Stefani, as well as bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and more. By the age of ten, she picked up her first guitar, began quietly penning music and eventually started posting tracks on Soundcloud.

Between a gig at Jack In The Box in 2016, an 18-year-old Morgue found the beat for her breakout track, “Medusa,” on YouTube and cooked up the single. She first teased the track with a brief Twitter video, and it ignited a viral reaction garnering 100,000 “likes” overnight. Over an airy, minimalistic soundscape, Morgue creates a hypnotic and heartfelt melody with haunting and powerful lyrics. “Medusa” peaked at #1 on Hype Machine, was hailed as “Best Track of the Week” by The New York Times, MTV, The Line of Best Fit and Coup de Main and its video premiered on The FADER. As “Medusa” became an underground phenomenon, Morgue inked a deal with Republic Records in the summer of 2017. Further music is set for release this summer.

Chilko Lake in BC

The end of summer heralds one of nature’s most enjoyable spectator sports – brown bear watching in British Columbia.

From mid-September and into October, the Chilko River hosts one of the region’s most dramatic salmon runs that in turn attracts furry visitors who wander in to dine on a veritable feast of spawning Sockeye.

Meet the Chilko Lake grizzly bear (Ursus arctos ssp.), a large subspecies of the North American Brown Bear. Adult female grizzlies weigh around 290–400 lbs., and adult males about 400–790 lbs. with an average length of 6.50 ft.

The congregation of hungry bears can number up to 100 or so, providing a visual feast for human visitors to this remote region who are hungry to see one of Nature’s annual spectacles.

Proprietors and owners of The Chilko Experience, Phil and Anne Huston, satisfy guest appetites with friendly hospitality, complete privacy and wholesome fun in the wilderness on their private estate. Plus, they ferry their guests onto the river in boats that are positioned to witness the feeding frenzy — but at a safe distance.

These bears are concentrated on a three-mile river segment beginning at the river’s mouth and extending downstream, an area where in some years the salmon numbers exceed one million. The result is that the Chilko River has some of the finest bear viewing anywhere in North America. The reason for this concentration is that the river is located deep within the BC interior and is the only salmon-feeding option for bears within a 200-mile radius. While there may be more bears located along the coast, with the many feeding options that exist, they are more dispersed and harder to observe.

Phil Huston explains that most viewing is done by low-draft river boats with experienced guides who know to stay at least 50 meters away from the bears in order not to stress them.

“Of particular interest are the mother bears and cubs. Two cubs are common but families of three are seen also. Photographers from around the world come to Chilko to seek the perfect brown bear photo,” he says.

While the bear get to feast, fishing for salmon on the Chilko River is restricted to all but those of First Nations decent. “However, the salmon spawn draws large rainbow trout populations that challenge and reward both the novice and experienced angler,” Huston notes.

Only 12 guests a week (up to 22 if they’re extended friends and family) have the privilege of lodging on the estate in the six custom log and timber frame homes that took center stage on HGTV’s Timber Kings a few years back. Today these one and two-bedroom, artisan-crafted dwellings continue to delight visitors whom their hosts welcome like family to their exclusive estate. Each unique home shares common features: oversized windows for maximum natural light, stone floors, hand-beveled denim (blue toned pine) ceilings, steel roofs, all tastefully furnished with antiques. Anne Huston, a long-time antique dealer, has adorned these classic homes with many of her collectibles. See: http://thechilkoexperience.com/log-homes/

This season (June 1 through Oct. 21), it’s fun as usual fly and spin cast fishing, canoeing, lake cruising, horseback riding and four-wheeling in the never-ending (five million acres) forests of native pine, splashed by the world-famous Chilko River and Chilko Lake. Complimentary guided activities are conducted directly from the estate. Optional river rafting and guided fly-fishing outings come with an extra fee.

Rates per person for this boutique and all-inclusive hospitality are based on the number of nights. Children ages 6 and under lodge free. Ages 7 to12 visit at the half-adult rate. Singles are accommodated in the Main House with no additional single supplement charge. A per person three-night stay is $2,950 and a six-night stay $5,950. Most guests access the Chilko valley via private charter flights originating in Vancouver, BC. The flight time is one hour. Guests can also fly commercially to Williams Lake and then drive three hours to the estate. From Vancouver it’s a 10-hour drive.
