TRUCK NIGHT IN AMERICA

50 CONTESTANTS TAKE ON THE TOUGHEST TRUCK OBSTACLE COURSE EVER BUILT IN HISTORY®’S NEW NONFICTION COMPETITION SERIES ‘TRUCK NIGHT IN AMERICA’ PREMIERING ON THURSDAY, MARCH 8 AT 10PM ET/PT

SCREENERS AND PROMO NOW AVAILABLE

It’s truck versus terrain, as 50 truck owners from across the United States compete in grueling challenges that test their ingenuity and driving ability in HISTORY’s new ten episode nonfiction competition series, “Truck Night in America” premiering on Thursday, March 8 at 10PM ET/PT. With the assistance of four experts, owners will compete for the chance to drive the toughest, most arduous truck obstacle course ever built, and drive away with $10,000 prize.

“Trucks have a true place in American history, both past and present, and as the most widely sold vehicle with 133 million currently on U.S. roads there is an appetite for this genre of programing,” said Eli Lehrer, Executive Vice President of Programming, HISTORY. “Since 1925 when the first American factory- produced truck rolled off the line, owners have been devising ingenious ways to make them faster, stronger and better and this can be seen with the tough competitors in our new series.”

Each episode of this self-contained competition series features five drivers in their personal customized trucks and jeeps going head to head in three challenges, each testing a different vehicle attribute: speed, strength and handling. Between each challenge competitors demonstrate their craftsmanship by re- engineering their trucks for the next round. The last two finalists standing then take on a three-mile, truck killing obstacle course known as “The Green Hell,” which challenges trucks and drivers to fly off jumps, climb a mountain of crushed cars, and tear through a snake-infested swamp. Five trucks will enter to compete, but only one can win and take home the prize money and the title of “Truck Night Champion.”

Helping the competitors are four expert coaches: desert racing champion and truck builder, “Pistol” Pete Sohren; extreme sports pioneer and dirt track racer, Glen Plake; truck builder and master fabricator, Abe Wine and rock crawling champion and master fabricator, Rob “Bender” Park. These four experts offer tough love and their professional perspective on each contender’s strategy and performance.

“Truck Night In America” is produced for HISTORY by 51 Minds. Christian Sarabia and James Patrick Costello II are executive producers for 51 Minds. Bert Klasey, Mike Stiller, Dolores Gavin and Mary Donahue are the executive producers for HISTORY.

A+E Networks holds worldwide distribution rights for “Truck Night In America.”

Brighten Life with Color

by Ariela Wertheimer

Ways to incorporate color into your surroundings to help brighten your mood during the cold winter months

With cold weather well underway for most of the North East, the winter blues can be daunting. As days get shorter and darker, some people may find themselves feeling more tired and lethargic than usual.
As an international artist, I’ve been exposed to different climates and cultures, and I understand how easily a mood can change for the better and energy levels can pick up when bright colors are incorporated into your environment.

When I moved to Tel Aviv in 2013, the new atmosphere encouraged me to look for inspiration around me. The city’s urban rhythm invigorated me with energy to create, photograph, and paint, and elements like fences, construction metals, colors and neon lights served as a type of urban art – a pop art that felt young and fresh.
If you’re not in the city, there are other ways to liven up your environment. Whether it be working vibrant hues into key pieces of your home furnishings, or using a brightly colored paint to create an accent wall in your foyer, colors can help break up the monotony of the long winter months and uplift your mood.

Here are a few more ways to brighten your space:

Pick a Bright Piece of Art to Tie Together a Room: Similar to my Light Box Portraits, colorful art pieces are key to brightening a space. Many artists use bright colors in their work, so find a piece that speaks to you and your tastes.
Use Mirrors to Double the Sunlight in a Room: There is no better friend to a small space than a well-placed mirror. For expanding walls, breaking up visual clutter, or amplifying light, let mirrors be the tool that solves your deign dilemmas.
Shiny Paint or Matte Paint? When choosing your favorite kind of paint, remember to check for the level of shine. The higher the shine, the more durable the paint will be. Oddly enough, glossy walls can create a glare while matte surfaces have the ability to reflect light in every direction.
Pick Bright Paint Colors for Your Walls: Whether you’re wondering what color to paint the office or you’re looking to redesign your living space, the colors you choose are important. Studies have shown that colors have a direct impact on human emotion and behavior. Wall color can actually change how a person perceives temperature.

Specific colors you choose to incorporate into your space can evoke emotional responses. When trying to create a calm environment, blue has always been a favorite color of mine. This is a common solution, as blue is generally used as a soothing and relaxing hue because it’s often affiliated with a clear sky or the sea. Don’t be afraid to use blue in the more stressful areas of your life—like your office.
If you’re looking to develop a more creative atmosphere in your space, then green is your color. Research has linked green with broader thinking and happier thoughts. Allow a positive association with nature to affect your décor and the overall mood in your home. Green is especially great for brightening rooms with mostly neutral tones.
Yellow has always been used to represent the sun and brightness. No need to paint every wall yellow, but use your love for the color to pick out a vase or rug for the center of the room. These accents will enhance a livelier vibe to brighten your days.

Give yourself an energy boost with your décor and your surroundings overall. Like your environment, one of the best things about color is that it is ever-changing. If something doesn’t work for your style, change it. Trial and error is used by artists on an everyday basis. Through my experience, I’ve learned what colors I am drawn to and what accents I find to be appealing. Everyone is different. Let light into your life during the darkest days.

Ariela Wertheimer is an international artist based in Tel Avivi, Israel. She is a member of Israel’s most affluent family, as her family sold their company to Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway in 2013 for over $2 billion. Ariela decided to venture away from business and into the art world, as she recently exhibited a Scope Miami, Venice Biennale and is scheduled to exhibit at Artexpo New York later in the spring. Ariela’s art incorporates a range of bright colors and focus on self-reflection – encouraging the viewer to reflect and improve their outlook.

Vagabond’s Irish Adventure

Hike, Horseback Ride, Pub & Fiddle Crawl Thru Castles, Celtic Ruins, Manors and More On 12-Day Vagabond Giant Irish Adventure :

COUNTY WICKLOW – Glimpsing how people lived in times gone by is part of the fun of exploring Ireland and a painless way to absorb history.

On an active 12 Day Vagabond Small Group Tours of Ireland “Giant Irish Adventure” that circumnavigates the island nation out of Dublin, guests poke around impregnable fortresses, ring forts, beehive huts, manor houses and everyone’s favorites – castles. The theme common to these sites is stone – indestructible and a metaphor for the Irish spirit.

Nature’s stone edifices also play a role in the Giant Irish Adventure that includes Ireland’s highest mountain range called the Macgillycuddy Reeks or black stacks of glacial-carved sandstone; the Cliffs of Moher of shale and limestone overlooking the Atlantic; and the Giant’s Causeway, a natural sculpture playground of basalt columns created by volcanic activities in the Atlantic Ocean a millennia ago.

Per person double rate of €2,769 includes the services of a highly trained professional Vagabond tour guide for 12 full days; 11 nights accommodation (4 nights B&B, 6 nights hotel, 1 night in a castle); 11 full Irish breakfasts; guided walks; entrance to most of the historical and archaeological sites and to some natural sites; demonstrations of local craftsmen at work; and all relevant fees and taxes.

This tour answers the needs of active travelers who want time aplenty to explore where they are by foot, including all the must see castles in Ireland. Hikes of up to two hours are daily highlights. Some activities such as horseback riding, sea kayaking and surfing are optional, as is biking in Killarney National Park. The tour is flexible and guests can arrange to opt out of one activity and into another.

Following are a sampling of the historic stone structures that guests have the option to visit on this tour. Each tells its own story about how people have lived and worked here for the past 2,000 years and longer.

  • Dunluce Castle is a cliff-edge ruin from the 13th century, with views over the Irish Sea to Scotland.
  • Stone Ring Fort (1700 BC) comes with 360˚ views the Celts would have enjoyed.  Bronze Age farmers constructed defenses against cattle thieves, using easily accessible materials, building earthen mounds with timber that fenced in the flat, lush green pastures of the Midlands or by the coast hauling granite to strategic heights to create circular stone forts. These were stone structures of such precision that no mortar was required.
  • Uragh (Neolithic) Stone Circle
  • Dry stone walls coursing across Dingle Peninsula are a fraction of its 6,000-year-old history reverberating with Stone Age standing stones.
  • Glenveigh Castle and Gardens is a Victorian (1867) edifice in now-Glenveagh National Park. The original owner drove poor tenants from the land so he could transform it into an aristocrats’ hunting playground; today an Irish-American philanthropist has gifted it back to the Irish nation.
  • Donegal Castle was built in the 15th century on the site of a one-time Viking fortress.
  • Abbeyglen Castle Hotel where the mountains of Connemara meet the sea was constructed in 1832. Vagabond guests overnight here.
  • Aughnanure Castle is an Irish tower house from 1500 and the lore of the O’Flaherty clan whose motto “Fortune favours the strong” sets the tone for its setting on a rocky island.
  • Dunguaire Castle is 16th century fortress.
  • Listowel Castle is a 15th century fortress.
  • Beehive huts (Clochán) date to 5th century monastic settlements (think Luke Skywalker’s retreat in Star Wars).
  • Blarney Castle dates to medieval times; kissing the Blarney Stone is said to bestow the gift of eloquence.
  • Rock of Cashel or St. Patrick’s Rock from the 12th century boasts a Romanesque chapel harboring ancient frescoes.
  • The tomb on Knocknaree Mountain is thought to be that of Celtic warrior Queen Maeve who in her 60-year rule had five (known) husbands.
  • Kylemore Abbey and its Victorian walled garden date to the 20th century, thanks to the Benedictines.
  • Ancient monastery on Skellig Michael, an island.

On the daily walks and hikes intrinsic to this tour, guests will access:

  • Slieve Gullion Mountain, the highest point in Ireland which harbors Neolithic passage tombs
  • Cliffside Trail including 132 steps to Giants Causeway
  • Glenveagh National Park’s low mountain trail leading to Glenveigh Castle
  • Slieve League, the highest sea cliffs in Europe
  • Croagh Patrick, the famous holy mountain where every step taken means a sin forgiven
  • Cliffs of Moher, 700-foot sea cliffs
  • Kilkee Cliff Walk overlooking the Atlantic
  • Glacial valley of Lough Annascaul

Throughout the journey, the Vagabond staff will arrange stops at locally owned accommodations, pubs and restaurants that help serve their goal of authenticity. In the end the company’s mission is to have their guests “love Ireland as much as we do.” Transport is in a 4×4 Land Rover or Mercedes ‘Vagatron’ that allows intimate access beyond where regular tour buses go.

The Salon Project

The Salon Project by Joel Warren
Opens Innovative
New Beauty Salon at Saks Fifth Avenue Long Island

  • Debut location of innovative new retail and beauty salon concept at Saks Fifth Avenue Long Island.
  • Premium beauty creation and destination where artistry integrates technology, with leading technicians and unique products.

  • Bespoke beauty experiences in a unique setting, customized around the client, where specialized services are seamlessly connected to the vastly trusted experience of industry veteran Warren.

The Salon Project by Joel Warren is an updated original. A new concept in retail, beauty, and service. The combination of a curated assortment of hair care, skin care, nail care and makeup has never before been offered in such a highly customized way. We created our business model to help the consumer enjoy a bespoke experience, turning the client’s journey in a typical salon and beauty retailer into a thoroughly personalized, turnkey beauty service and shopping experience. Joel Warren, a veteran in the salon business, had a revelation that there is a far better way to primp and shop than what is offered by the current salon model. What was once thought of as an enjoyable day at the salon now truly is, along with expert guidance and incredibly curated retail, Warren has the solution.
The Salon Project offers an innovative approach to the client journey by eliminating the typical front desk for check-in. Instead, guests are greeted by iPad-equipped concierges who direct them to their designated station where the client remains and relaxes for the duration of their services.

Joel Warren said, “I noticed the way that many salons operate is not efficient or as client-focused as it could be. Our approach improves operations, and the client experience, by using our knowledge and technology to bring everything to the client. Saks Fifth Avenue has a focus on luxury, making it the perfect environment for the first location of The Salon Project.”

The first Salon Project location will open its doors in February 2018 at Saks Fifth Avenue Long Island. The plan is to have an additional ten locations opening at Saks Fifth Avenue stores throughout the United States over the next 24 months. Houston and Boca Raton are next on deck to open in 2018, with the second wave of locations in 2019. The highlight of 2019 will be the highly anticipated opening of The Salon Project at the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York City.

RPG designed the interiors under the leadership of CEO Bruce E. Teitelbaum in partnership with Joel Warren. Two beauty and retail veterans joined forces to create a compelling, unforgettable space that melds unexpected touches and contemporary twists with 20th-century retro and modern, casual glamour. The salon and spa environment have the technological edge to create excitement and ultimate client convenience. Augmented and virtual reality features drive engagement and allow for seamless check-out in your chair with no trip to the front desk. The Salon Project is truly a stand-out in its category; it is the store of the future.

Bruce E. Teitelbaum commented, “We are thrilled to bring our global, diversified design and build experience to The Salon Project, a pioneer in its category. Joel’s incredible talent and knowledge along with the prestige and allure of Saks and RPG’s creative and manufacturing expertise should prove to be a winning combination.”

To that end, each Beauty Expert from The Salon Project has the opportunity to engage in multi-services training, allowing them to play a key role in facilitating sales through trusted stylist-client relationships. While seated, clients can play with augmented reality technology to try on products available among The Salon Project’s inventory. They test lipsticks and other beauty items from a try-on bar cart, all while receiving recommendations from the Beauty Expert / Hairstylist who seamlessly completes product purchases directly from an iPad.

Sean Paul Campbell, General Manager of The Salon Project, said, “I am thrilled to be supporting Joel Warren, as well as the many talented team members at The Salon Project. This innovative and unique new approach to beauty represents a giant leap forward in service and technology, and means that our clients will be able to expect the most current trends and products every time they walk through our door.”

Be More Kind

Frank Turner releases the title track from his forthcoming seventh studio album Be More Kind available on May 4th via Xtra Mile Recordings/Polydor UK /Interscope Records. Listen to “Be More Kind” HERE. The album is available for pre-order HEREand those who pre-order will receive instant downloads of “Be More Kind” as well as the previously released tracks “1933” and “There She Is” from the 2017 release Songbook.

Of the track, Turner says, “‘Be More Kind’, the song, is at the heart of the album, both lyrically and musically; when I finished it, I could see the rest of the album coming back together around it.”
Be More Kind represents a thematic and sonic line in the sand for the 36-year-old. It’s a record that combines universal anthems with raw emotion and the political and the personal, with the intricate folk and punk roar trademarks of Turner’s sound imbued with new, bold experimental shades. Be More Kind is produced by Austin Jenkins and Joshua Block, formerly of psychedelic-rock Texans White Denim, and Florence And The Machine and Halsey collaborator Charlie Hugall. “I wanted to try and get out of my comfort zone and do something different,” says Turner.

The Be More Kind World Tour will head to North America on April 5, with its first leg playing to over 200,000 people across the UK, the USA, Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, taking them through to Christmas. Two Boston shows – July 1 and 2 – were added today. Turner promises that 2019 will include visits to some “slightly more weird and wonderful places.”

DREAMer of the Day

TheDream.US, the nation’s largest college access and success program for undocumented immigrant youth, has launched a “DREAMer of the Day” feature – a daily profile of a TheDream.US-affiliated Scholar whose story offers a powerful example why Congress passing legislation resolving the crisis facing DREAMers and TPS holders will be good for America.

Today’s DREAMer of the Day is Axel Galeas of California’s De Anza College:

“My American Dream, I have come to realize, involves much more than new clothes, iPhones, and materialistic things.

At De Anza College, I want to pursue a degree in either bioengineering or environmental engineering. After graduation, I hope to obtain a creative job that helps tackle climate change and helps shine light on the lack of funding that it is receiving. I want to become financially stable; I want to be able to travel and teach and learn everything there is to learn. I also want to become a United States citizen. While it still feels so crazy to me that a piece of paper determines citizenship, I want to fully participate in this, the country I now call home. I want to better my home, and a piece of paper could stand in the way of that.

Growing up and going to school as an immigrant wasn’t easy; I remember being in the first grade, right after arriving in this country, and beginning to learn English. It was all so foreign to me, having lived in Honduras my whole life. It felt strange even knowing there were other languages other than Spanish and realizing that Spanish was just one of many languages spoken across the world. Beyond learning the language, I remember struggling with the price comparison of items and clothes I had compared to my peers.

In high school, I became almost obsessed with luxury and clothes.  Every student seemed to be dressed their best and to have the most expensive things. I wanted these things and I’d envy them. This persisted for the first couple years of high school until I attended a life changing leadership symposium. This experience forced me to truly dig deep and re-evaluate my values and beliefs. Since then, even though I am still adjusting and confronting many challenges in life, I have become more self-aware and less focused on chasing material highs and competing with anyone on this level. I have adapted a mindset that focuses more on being mindful of the people around me as well as myself and my feelings as a person, in other words I’ve become more proficient in emotional intelligence.

I do have to remind myself of this sometimes and also of how far I’ve come living here. I need to stop, take a deep breath, appreciate everything I have, and continue with this headspace.  I would be living a completely different life had I stayed in Honduras – a life with significantly less opportunity. A life where many grow up to be murderers and drug dealers. I look back on myself as a freshman in high school, sitting in my English class where the majority of the class was Caucasian. I was one of two non-white students, out of the thirty students in my class. This made me feel inferior, looked down on, and, at times, discriminated against. Some of it was in my head, while some of it was also evident in the way I was treated in respect to my peers by my peers.

Then, during my senior year, I was in an AP Literature class with that same teacher who taught that freshman year English class. We built a strong connection throughout my high school years, and he witnessed me mature and grow into a secure, self-loving man.  He saw firsthand that I no longer felt intimidated by my classmates and that I took initiative in conversation in the classroom. It felt like a lot had come full circle for me in a short period of time, and it makes me proud to reflect on this growth.

As high school neared its end, I had no idea how I was going to pay for college, better yet how I’d survive in the real world while being undocumented. I knew that I would somehow, even if that meant taking out loans. I didn’t realize this would be nearly impossible to finance, but I made up my mind that I would be college educated. When I learned about TheDream.US scholarship from one of my teachers, I was amazed at the amount that this offered and the extent to which this could help fund my college dreams. After putting effort into my studies, I realized that I had been surviving the real world all along, only now it has been formerly addressed as an issue.

I am a DACA student, one out of the 800,000 in this country who are just as lost as I am. Who struggle with self-identification, and have to constantly look over their shoulder. Because we do not trust easy. We want the best for this country and the people in it. I am American, and a piece of paper does not define me. Being American is the epitome of culture. We are culturally driven, so why are we not embracing these aspiring, beautiful, young American Immigrants?

I truly believe the most important experience for a human being is to have the ability to learn. Educational learning as well as keeping a growth mindset are catalysts to bridging the gap between cultures. This way, we can understand each other better. I never want to stop learning, and one day I will never want to stop teaching.”

TheDream.US, which has provided more than 3,000 scholarships to students with DACA and TPS at more than 75 partner colleges in 15 states and Washington, DC, believes that all young people, regardless of where they were born, should have the opportunity to fulfill their potential, gain an education, and fully participate in the country that they call home. To date, the organization has committed more than $103 million in scholarship money for DREAMers.
