COUNTRY CHRISTMAS VINYL ALBUMS PERFECT FOR THE TURNTABLE OR TREE

REBA MCENTIRE’S CLASSICMERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU REISSUED ON VINYL TO CELEBRATE 30TH ANNIVERSARY

LADY ANTEBELLUM AND DARIUS RUCKER’S BELOVED HOLIDAY COLLECTIONS RELEASED ON VINYL FOR FIRST TIME

With their shared love of storytelling and tradition, Christmas and country music have gone hand in hand since the genre’s beginnings. Dating back to the late 1920’s some of the earliest country singers recorded songs about Christmas. In 1949, country Christmas music became mainstream when singing cowboy Gene Autry topped the charts with “Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer” and Ernest Tubb popularized “Blue Christmas” several years before Elvis made it the classic it is today. Ever since, the genre has been the perfect vehicle for the range of emotions that the holiday season can bring.

Whereas country and Christmas go together as great as a partridge in a pear tree, there’s no better way to listen to these seasonal sounds than on vinyl. From the 30th anniversary reissue of Reba McEntire’s first Christmas album to Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker’s beloved collections getting their first-ever release on vinyl, UMe has several country Christmas records to put under the tree or on the turntable to make your holiday gatherings even brighter.

REBA MCENTIRE – MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU (MCA NASHVILLE/UMe)

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of country icon Reba McEntire’s timeless double-platinum album Merry Christmas To You, the long out-of-print record has been reissued on vinyl for the first time since its original 1987 release. Pressed on standard black vinyl and featuring the ‘90s cover image from the CD version, the album that first celebrated McEntire’s love of Christmas includes her beautiful and joyous takes on traditional Christmas tunes like “Away In A Manger,” “O Holy Night” and “Silent Night” and seasonal standards like “White Christmas,” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire).”

McEntire recently debuted as host for the eighth annual “CMA Country Christmas” to record high ratings. The two-hour holiday music event, which aired November 27, will re-air on ABC on Saturday, December 23 at 8/7 PM and will feature performances by McEntire, Lady Antebellum, Luke Bryan, Trisha Yearwood, Alan Jackson and more of today’s best country stars sharing their favorite sounds of the season.

Jason Wimberly x Benefits of Morning Exercise

INSTAGRAM

LA-based celebrity fitness trainer, Jason Wimberly, shares his thoughts on the benefits of early morning workouts. Jason has over 10 years of experience in the industry, with a repertoire including Soulcycle, Equinox, and his very own studio, THE WALL. He has also been known to be the master behind keeping many of Hollywood’s elite looking their best – including Kate Hudson, Selma Blair, Jane Lynch, Leela Goldkuhl and Annabeth Gish

Benefits Of Exercising In The Morning

There are almost too many physical benefits to list. Burn more calories, boost your metabolism, and feel better and more focused throughout your day. Not to mention, one of the most important things that influence your workout are your hormone levels. Testosterone levels for men and women are highest in the morning between 7-8am, and testosterone is essential for building lean muscle and burning fat. Not to mention, fitness wrecking hormones from stress like cortisol are likely to raise as your day progresses, so set that alarm and get your coffee ready for the best benefits possible.

Adjusting Your Morning Routine

Beyond the dozen physical benefits, there are a lot of other perks of starting your day early at the gym. There is generally more room and available equipment in the morning, instead of competing with everyone during peak evening hours. While adjusting to an early morning routine may be hard at first, you’re much more likely to maintain your schedule than working out later in the day by avoiding unnecessary distractions and excuses. Starting your day off with a heart pumping workout means you get to end your day doing the things you love a little bit more.

Why Morning Exercise Is Better Than Evening

While any workout is better than none, remember that the human body is not designed for strenuous exercise at all hours. Our bodies start naturally making melatonin, that amazing hormone that helps you sleep, around 9pm. While there are lots of things that now inhibit our sleepy time vibes like computer screens and bright lights, our bodies want to start resting, and in doing so – recovering. I always advise my clients that rather than hitting the gym late, get to bed sooner than normal and set that alarm for your morning workout a little earlier.

Mental Benefits Of A Morning Exercise

It’s ok to admit that you don’t like exercise. Even if you love it, we all have days where it’s the last thing we want to do, especially at 6am. But once you’ve crushed your workout, before many others are even awake, well, that feeling of accomplishment is unlike any other. As a trainer I start my day between 4:30 and 5am every day, and the morning hour where it’s just me, is my favorite of the day. There is something so empowering about being the only one on the road in the morning, or simply not having to wait in a line for your morning coffee. It’s sort of like being a superhero, where you have the whole city to yourself. Just remember, superheros are allowed to take naps too.

Tickets Go On Sale This Friday, December 15

North American Run Kicks Off March 7 In Little Rock, AR And Includes March 14 Show At NYC’s Brooklyn Steel And March 23 Concert at The Fonda Theatre In Los Angeles

Beth Ditto – hailed by NPR as the “force-of-nature performer best known for fronting the pop-punk group Gossip” – will kick off her first tour of 2018 in her home state of Arkansas, performing at Revolution Music Room in Little Rock on March 7. The North American run includes shows at New York’s Brooklyn Steel (March 14), The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, CA (March 23) and Wonder Ballroom in Portland, OR (March 27). Tickets will go on sale this Friday, December 15, at 10:00 AM local time. See below for itinerary or visit www.bethditto.com.

In a four-star live review The Guardian said, ”

Ditto has said this is her southern record, and opener Oh My God kicks in with a funk-rock beat as she channels the mid-80s power vocals of Bonnie Tyler, complete with a front-of-stage electric fan to give her the perfect windswept look. On In and Out and Fake Sugar, she closes her eyes and draws out the tender trill in her voice, giving her the air of a heartbroken Nashville queen. And like Dolly Parton, Ditto alternates between infectiously warm, wisecracking comic and soul-baring torch singer.”

She was recently interviewed by Debbie Harry for Elle UK’s “Wonder Women” issue, which features Ditto on the cover. Check out their lively conversation, which touches on touring, punk and politics, HERE.

The Wall Street Journal included Fake Sugarin its round-up of “The Best Music of 2017” and observed, “Great pop for grownups is a rare commodity…Beth Ditto delivers.” The New York Times praised Ditto as a”powerhouse singer” and noted that the songs from her 2017 solo debut album, Fake Sugar (Virgin Records), “have stomp and girl-group melodies, Southernisms in their lyrics and garage-rock swagger.” Paper christened Ditto “rock’s homecoming queen” while People highlighted Fake Sugar as one of its “Picks,” observing, “Whether it’s a glittering stomper (‘Oo La La’) or stripped-down Stevie Nicks homage (the title track), Ditto shines throughout…”New York Magazine said, “Ditto feels like the kind of rock star born to dominate this political era and on tracks like ‘Fire,’ she makes it clear that she is not here to mess around.”

The official video for “Fire,” which has nearly two million views, can be seen HERE. Other clips include “We Could Run” and the animated lyric video for “In And Out.”

In addition to releasing six acclaimed albums with the Gossip, Ditto has recorded with such artists as Blondie and disco legend Cerrone, collaborated with Jean Paul Gaultier on her eponymous plus-sized luxury clothing line, modeled for Marc Jacobs and appeared in the Oscar-nominated Nocturnal Animals and the forthcoming Gus Van Sant film, Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot.

The Remarkable Life of David Hysong

Meet David Hysong — 30 year old adenoid cystic carcinoma patient and CEO of SHEPHERD Therapeutics. Here’s his remarkable story is below for consideration to pass along or speak with him about his journey:

Hysong finished his master’s degree in intellectual history in 2011 and found himself with a year’s lag time before he planned to enter the U.S. Navy. He was young, good looking, and smart. Most people in his position would probably have kicked back, gotten a job to pay the bills, and had some fun. However, David Hysong is not “most people.”

His story continues, and on a dare, he applied to Harvard Divinity School in 2012 for enrollment in the Fall. A series of educational and life adventures soon followed — good and bad, including his cancer diagnosis — and after graduation in May 2015, Hysong considered medical school. He took preparatory courses while working 80-hour weeks at two jobs to pay off medical and student debts. The schedule, in the wake of cancer treatment and graduate school, began to burn him out. Hysong then took a break for a few weeks. The clouds cleared and he was inspired to undertake what he calls “an impossible task”: a biotech start up that searched for cures to rare cancers like his.

Now, welcome SHEPHERD Therapeutics. His Genzyme and Harvard connections enabled him to assemble a world-class team of scientists. The firm’s goal is to find cures for the more than 250 rare cancers that make up 42 percent of cancer diagnoses in the United States. Hysong says that Shepherd is well on its way.

“We’ve raised close to $6.5M and we’re only just now finalizing our product portfolio,” he says. “The cool thing is, a lot of the times, therapeutics are approved when they represent a 30 percent survival rate or 40 percent survival rate. For the diseases we’re looking at, our preliminary data show about an 80 percent survival rate. We really think we’re going to be very successful and save a lot of lives.”

You can read David’s full story on Harvard Divinity School’s website, here: http://hds.harvard.edu/news/2017/12/07/Hysong-idealism-in-action#

Hysong was on the 2016 Forbes 30 Under 30 Healthcare list, and he was named as part of a class of 2017’s Future Biotech Giants. Not to mention he’s been covered by Southern Living, and he has spoken at the Forbes Under 30 Summit. SHEPHERD Therapeutics has offices in Boston and Nashville.
