The inaugural King Salman World Open and Women’s Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships have begun, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the first time in history, with Chinese classical chess champion Ju Wenjun achieving a perfect opening score. Meanwhile the World Number One, Magnus Carlsen, got off to a less than ideal start. Surely, he will look to improve on his game today.

The event, running until 30th December, marks an important advance in Saudi Arabia’s mission to become a sporting hub capital and provides a refreshing inclusion of women in such high profile public events.

The event has attracted attract more than 200 players from all over the world, providing aspirational role models for players in the region and sees famed male and female chess players compete on the World stage for a chance to prove their strategic prowess against some of the highest IQs in the world.

Opened in 1847, the Grand Hotel Marriott Resort, Golf Club & Spa in Pt. TRANSFORMATION TIMELINE

In 2016 The Grand began a magnificent transformation designed to recast the entire resort as a sanctuary of modern Southern hospitality. From rooms refreshed in beautiful coastal hues, to a complete redesign of our dining experiences, to a rejuvenated spa and thoughtful makeover of our conference facilities, the Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa debuts anew in 2018 in the Autograph collection, reclaiming its renown as the Queen of Southern Resorts.

December 4, 2017 – The Main Building will be closed until April 30, 2018. This includes the front desk, restaurants, lounge, gift shop, lobby and the historic rooms while the Main Building undergoes a massive transformation and restoration of its charm. A model room and renderings are available to preview. During this time, hotel check-in will be in the Spa Building and dining and nightly entertainment will be in the Jubilee Poolside Grill. The new restaurant concepts are detailed later in this document.

January 20, 2018 – The Grand Ballroom, Patio and Foyer will be out for transformation. This should be complete by early March 2018.

February 2018 – The Spa, Salon and Indoor Pool will reopen with an additional three treatment rooms, new salon and total transformation.

March 2, 2018 – The outdoor pool, hot tub and pool deck will reopen with the addition of a splash pad and cabanas.

May 1, 2018 – Transformation is scheduled to be complete and the resort reintroduced as the Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa, part of the Autograph Collection.

NBCUniversal International Studios today announced the extension of Downton Abbey: The Exhibition in New York City as a result of unprecedented interest and overwhelming attendance since the November 18th opening.  The first-ever fully immersive experience set inside the world of Carnival Films’ multi award-winning global television phenomenon, Downton Abbey, the exhibition connects fans with their favorite characters, costumes, locations and historic events of the era, and showcases never-before-seen footage.

The exhibition has seen a record number of fans coming through its doors and received rave reviews of four and five stars on both Yelp and TripAdvisor.  In addition, the experience attracted incredible critical acclaim from a variety of outlets including The New York Times saying it’s “…a kind of theme park for re-addiction, a cleverly immersive experience mounted with the same exacting care as the show itself. Upon entering the exhibition, visitors are transported on an incredible journey through the grand home of Downton Abbey allowing them to peer into the world of the Crawleys and those that served them below stairs.  From Mrs. Patmore’s hectic kitchen and the gossip-fuelled servants’ quarters, to the family’s glamorous dining room and Lady Mary’s bedroom, fans have the opportunity to walk through some of the series’ most recognizable and beloved sets.  Visitors will even come up-close to over 50 of the show’s official costumes worn by their favoriteactors including Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville and Dame Maggie Smith.

Downton Abbey: The Exhibition provides a fascinating look at all aspects of the post-Edwardian period in which Carnival Films’ popular TV series is set and offers an in-depth insight into the remarkable historic events which would go on to shape the world. From World War I to the Roaring Twenties, visitors have the chance to learn about British society, culture and fashion.
