One Warm Coat

With the holidays around the corner, there’s no better time than now to teach your children the importance of giving back! There are many ways to help your community and One Warm Coat, national non-profit organization dedicated to providing a free, warm coat to any person in need, makes it extremely easy and fun! Imagine not having a coat to keep you warm as the temperatures begin to drop. Now you and your children can help!

Whether you go through your closets together and pick out coats they don’t wear anymore to donate, or host your own drive, you can truly have a fun bonding experience while also helping out the community and those in need!  You can decorate the donation box with stickers provided by One Warm Coat too! They’ll love it – it will be fun!

One Warm Coat has the goal of collecting 1 million coats this season. Now you and your children can have an activity to do together while also teaching the importance of giving back.

How It Works:  One Warm Coat provides the tools and resources needed to hold a successful coat drive in 6 easy steps! The organization’s website helps organizers (individuals, schools, community groups, church groups and businesses) plan, promote and implement a coat drive. Once a drive is registered, One Warm Coat will send Ambassadors all of the materials they need to host a coat drive, including a banner, box labels, stickers and more. Once coats are collected, they will be distributed within their community to any person in need, without charge, discrimination or obligation through the organization’s network of non-profit partners. To donate a coat on One Warm Coat Day, visit your local Brooks Brothers, Cabela’s or J. Crew store, or any of our other active coat drives. To find a participating location near you, search the One Warm Coat drive locator.

Coat drives are easy to host and an ideal activity for:

  • Parents, teachers and students looking to make a positive impact on their community through a service project
  • People seeking to add a philanthropic component to an upcoming family gathering or party
  • Community members finding ways to give back during the winter months
  • Professionals who would like to engage their colleagues in a good cause
  • People who may be moving or looking for ways to recycle
  • Corporations and Brands who want to make a difference in the communities where their employees and customers work and live.

About One Warm Coat:

The organization began in 1992 with its first coat drive on a Thanksgiving weekend in San Francisco. Since its inception, One Warm Coat has grown as a national organization collecting more than 5 million coats and supporting 3,500 coat drives each year. In dedicating the last 25 years to providing a warm coat to anyone in need, free of charge, One Warm Coat’s efforts have been recognized with a number of awards, accolades and rankings including Top-Rated Nonprofit by Great Nonprofits and Gold Star Nonprofit by Guidestar.  The organization has collaborated with top companies such as J.Crew, Coca-Cola, Delta and Brooks Brothers among many others to give warmth to those in need. WIXTER MARKET

WIXTER MARKET COLLABORATES WITH FAHLSTROM’S FRESH FISH MARKET TO OFFER THE LARGEST SELECTION OF CONSERVAS IN CHICAGO

Conservas Arrive At Fahlstrom’s Fresh Fish Market Bringing An Extensive Selection of Quality Seafood to the Midwest

Wixter Market (2110 W. Division St) is collaborating with Fahlstrom’s Fresh Fish Market (1258 W Belmont Ave) to install twenty-nine of Wixter Market’s conservas, or tinned seafood products.

On the heels of the launch of Wixter Market’s new distribution program, the addition of a wide variety of conservas at Fahlstrom’s Fresh Fish Market signifies the beginning of Wixter Market’s exclusive product being more widely available to any shopper interested in sourcing sustainably harvested seafood products. The restaurant and market operated by Glenn Fahlstrom has become a neighborhood staple, serving freshly prepared seafood dishes alongside a working fish market which retails superior sustainably sourced product without antibiotics and growth hormones at a more accessible price point than larger commercial competitors. The extension of Fahlstrom’s Fresh Fish Market to include such a broad selection of Wixter Market’s tinned seafood products is a logical wholesale partnership that exhibits the premium sourcing of quality seafood from around the world that is becoming available in Chicago.

Conservas, which are tins of seafood prized for the high-quality and fresh preservation of product, have also been steadily gaining popularity in the gourmet food market scene. Natural and delicious seafood in an easily transportable container with beautiful packaging make these items ideal for the quickly approaching holiday season and beyond. W ixter Market offers two lines of sustainably sourced tinned fish including La Brújula (Spain) and Jose Gourmet (Portugal) both of which are now carried by Fahlstrom’s Fresh Fish Market . With this relationship with Fahlstrom’s Fresh Fish Market as a partner restaurant, conservas are available from the retail market in a range of prices from $5.65 up to $43.75. For more of a shareable experience, customers can enjoy plated conservas from the bar where your tin of choice is served with accompanying bites including warm toasted bread, whipped butter, thick cut caramelized onions with rosemary, roasted garlic, shaved aged parmesan cheese, spicy capicola ham, dijon mustard and housemade seasonal jam.

The full line of conservas from La Brujula and Jose Gourmet are always available from Wixter Market’s retail shop in Wicker Park (as well as will be available soon on www.wixtermarket.com ). However, for those closer to the north side neighborhoods, Fahlstrom’s Fresh Fish Market provides additional access to a well-rounded selection of tinned seafood offerings.

BACARDÍ No Commision

BACARDÍ, Swizz Beatz and The Dean Collection Bring the Heat and “Island Might” Spirit to NO COMMISSION in Miami,

the City Where it All Started

Featuring Michael B. Jordan, Alicia Keys, Virgil Abloh, Leikeli47, Amar’e Stoudemire and more!

BACARDÍ, Swizz Beatz and The Dean Collection kicked off NO COMMISSION: Miami 2017, a three-day, art and music experience taking place December 7 – 9, 2017, at Soho Studios in Wynwood on Thursday, December 7. NO COMMISSION is a roving experiential platform that forges a direct link between art and art patronage. All artists are given their exhibition space for free and 100% of the sale of each artwork goes directly to the artists.

The invite-only event featured big star power, including critically acclaimed actor Michael B. Jordan, Grammy Award-winning artist Alicia Keys, former NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire, creative visionary Virgil Abloh, Major Lazer’s Jillionaire and famed celebrity photographer Jonathan Mannion. Performance highlights include Leikeli47, performing her hit “Money,” a special DJ set by Swizz Beatz, DJ Runna and Aine Zion.

BACARDÍ and Grammy Award-winning music producer Swizz Beatz brought together some of the most disruptive creatives in today’s culture to discuss the future of creativity during an intimate panel discussion on the first day of the immersive art and music fair. During the “Future of Creativity” panel, which was moderated by Brooklyn Museum Director Anne Pasternak and featured Swizz Beatz, Virgil Abloh, Kimberly Drew, Nora Khan and Carmen Aguilar Y Wedge, panelists discussed topics such as social responsibility, the impact of social media, corporate accountability and the role creatives play in today’s culture.

After a global tour to Shanghai and Berlin, NO COMMISSION made its triumphant return to Miami – BACARDÍ’s backyard. This showcase is themed around the idea of “Island Might” which focuses on the strength and vitality of the Caribbean while examining family and the intersection of land and sea, ritual, revolution and color – all as elemental forces that illuminate the roadmap for a bright future of endless possibility.

The injection of immersive music performances from collaborator BACARDÍ shakes up the traditional art fair, creating a unique culture experience for visitors.

Swizz Beatz

Swizz Beatz celebrates the return of the groundbreaking art platform No Commission to Miami after a two year tour around the world which helped put over $3 million directly into artist pockets.

Taking place from December 7th to 9th, 2017 at SOHO Studios in the Wynwood section in Miami, No Commission returns to its roots after a whirlwind international tour where it has become a global revolution for the future of art and sound. Timed to one of the world’s biggest art fairs, No Commission is more than an art fair: it is a unique three-day cultural experience that celebrates the fusion of sonic and visual art, moulding the new generation of global artistic appreciation. Since its inception in 2015, No Commission has challenged traditional art fair formats by giving artists free exhibition space and total control of sales.

No Commission is the brainchild of Grammy Award-winning artist and producer Swizz Beatz, The Dean Collection and BACARDÍ, and seeks to forge a direct link between the artists, art community and art patrons. A Grammy-winner once dubbed “the best rap producer of all time” by Kanye West, Kasseem “Swizz Beatz” Dean has penned beats for Whitney Houston, Jay Z, Beyoncé and others. Alongside his Wife Alicia Keys, Beatz is a noted fashion designer, painter and art collector. His No Commission platform is uniquely designed to support both new and established artists in a way that breaks down conventional barriers – all artists are given their exhibition space for free and 100% of the sale of each artwork goes directly to the artists.

The Miami event is the sixth in a series of artist support collaborations. Past editions were held in Miami, New York, London, Shanghai and Berlin where artworks were sold and artists retained 100% of sales proceeds. Swizz Beatz, BACARDÍ and The Dean Collection launched NO COMMISSION at Miami Art Basel two years ago. Since then, they’ve put over $3 million directly into artist pockets.

All B Roll footage from the event, including interviews with the artists, general videos of the artworks and of the performances is available free of charge and free of copyright via:

Antix x “When It Falls”

“A radical voice” – Clash Music

“Poignant messages over soulful beats” – Red Bull Music

“His talent is genre crossing, in a very honest sense” – Huffington Post

SOUNDCLOUD

Antix is an unconventional rapper, part of a generation of more conscious hip hop artists alá Logic or Khalid. His music has always proudly stood outside the norms of his genre, and shuns the bravado and materialism of many of his contemporaries. He has delivered his signature flow on topics ranging from mental illness (“Come Home”) to religious oppression (“Afshin’s Song”). His work is heavily informed by his own experiences, and aims to help end stigmas around certain topics.

To date, Antix has dropped two mixtapes, 2010’s ‘Inflammable Grammar’ and 2014’s ‘Question Everything;’ which saw support from the likes of Red Bull Music, BBC Introducing and MTV Brand New. Though he initially struggled to fit into the London hip hop scene, so different was what he was doing, and he used social media instead to foster intimate fan interactions. As a result, his openness and energy has gained him a multitude of followers across the world (his current streaming figures are 3 million).

“I was always trying to be ‘accepted’ by some scene, until I realized that the fans are all that matter. People message me now and tell me my music saved their life, helped them with depression, things like that. When you realized how important that is, the ‘scene’ can go fuck itself.”

Antix returns with his new track “When It Falls,” and his re-location to the US is evident in the shift in tone. The song shifts between the quiet, resolute core of Antix’s verses and the emotional gusts of Greg Delson’s choruses. This is a mission statement on determination in the face of adversity, a significant subject for Antix. He is an artist with great success behind him, and continues to claw his way forward. While also involved with ‘secret concert’ collective Flights of Voices and socially conscious movements such as Occupy Wall Street, he is nothing if not ambitious. With “When It Falls,’ Antix continues to display that ambition and his potential for universal appeal. This is an artist who knows exactly what he wants to do, who he is, and who he is going to be.

Do you really want to give a brand-new phone to family and friends this holiday season?

With the holidays right around the corner, shoppers are getting ready to give the gift of technology. Top-of-mind, of course, are the shiny, brand-new devices that have hit the market this season.

However, it’s important to take a step back and really think about whether friends and family are actually…well…careful enough to deserve a new device – especially one that might cost well over $1,000.

A recent survey by protection plan provider Assurant found that of the 66% of mobile phone owners who have broken, damaged or lost a device, almost as many (65%) have done so at least twice!

Additionally, 73% of respondents reported dropping their phones at least once a week, with nearly one quarter (24%) reporting that it has fallen into the toilet. (One person even dug through a port-a-potty for it because it was too expensive to replace).

So, what’s the answer for giving great technology gifts to clumsy friends and family? Buy refurbished!

“Refurbished devices have come a long way,” says David Conti, director of eCommerce at MyWit, a leading consumer website selling refurbished devices. “They are now a high-quality, affordable alternative to a new device, as well as a great option for the eco-conscious.” According to Conti, the key benefits of buying refurbished include:

VALUE — ON AVERAGE, CONSUMERS SAVE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS BUYING REFURBISHED VS NEW, WHICH CAN MEAN MORE GIFTS FOR MORE PEOPLE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON.

MOTHER NATURE — AT LEAST 100 MILLION MOBILE DEVICES END UP IN LANDFILLS EACH YEAR, SO THE GIFT OF A REFURBISHED DEVICE IS ALSO A GIFT TO THE PLANET.

QUALITY—IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, THE REFURBISHED AND RE-COMMERCE INDUSTRIES HAVE IMPROVED IMMENSELY. SITES LIKE MYWIT.COM PUT SMARTPHONES THROUGH AN INDUSTRY LEADING EVALUATION PROCESS INCLUDING 65+ POINTS OF INSPECTION TO GUARANTEE 100% FUNCTIONALITY.

While everyone loves Grandma, and wants to be the “favorite aunt” to their nieces and nephews, not everyone on every gift list really needs a brand-new device.

Bottom line: Gift-givers can stretch their budget this holiday season – without sacrificing quality – by buying refurbished at MyWiT.com.
