Lewis Capaldi

LEWIS CAPALDI PREMIERES “FADE (LIVE)” VIDEO TODAY

DEBUT EP BLOOM OUT NOW ON CAPITOL RECORDS

Capaldi To Join Milky Chance On January 2018 North American Tour

Scottish artist Lewis Capaldi premieres the video for “Fade (Live)” today- watch it HERE.  The video was directed by Alexandra Gavillet and the track is from Capaldi’s debut EP Bloom out now on Capitol Records and available for download and streaming HERE.   Capaldi co-wrote “Fade” with GRAMMY award winner Malay (Frank Ocean, Sam Smith, Zayn Malik), who also produced it.

“Fade is probably the proudest I’ve ever been about a song I’ve written, it came together so naturally over the course of two days in New York and the fact that I got to write it and have it produced by Malay who’s someone I’ve been a big fan of for a long time was such an honour,” says Capaldi. We filmed the live video for the track in a studio in London a month or so ago and I’m still so pleased with how it turned out, visuals were never really something I considered when I started making music but over the last year it’s something I’ve been becoming so much more interested in! The video was directed by Alexandra Gavillet who’s fucking amazing, I’m still not really comfortable being in front of a camera but she was great in helping me feel a bit more at ease with everything. I honestly think it looks class, she smashed it!”

“Fade” racked up over one million streams in the first week alone and is now approaching four million streams.  Capaldi’s previous track “Lost On You,” was included in Spotify’s New Music Friday in over 20 countries, while his debut “Bruises,” held the No. 1 spot on the playlist and has amassed over 35 million total streams globally.  A stripped-down ballad that looks back on a failed relationship, “Bruises” showcases Capaldi’s nimble vocal ability, as he effortlessly slips between smooth baritone, gravelly mid-tone, and haunting falsetto with pinpoint accuracy.

Hailing from the small town of Bathgate, outside of Glasgow, Capaldi sold out two headlining shows at Glasgow’s famed King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut and embarked on his first UK headling tour, which sold out in minutes, before any of his music was officially released. He will tour Europe this fall with Rag’n’Bone Man, followed by his second UK sold out headlining tour in December.  Capaldi will also tour the U.S. and Canada with Milky Chance in January. See below for all tour dates.

The track-listing for the Bloom EP is as follows:

1 Fade

2 Bruises

3 Mercy

4 Lost On You

What critics are saying about Lewis Capaldi:

“Lewis Capaldi has the kind of deep, textured voice that you could listen to for hours. He finds expressive rough edges, then smooths them out into the sweetest of notes…Capaldi’s talent is tugging at heartstrings – or rather, pulling at them with all his vocal might.”

-Time

“Lewis Capaldi has captivated listeners with his soulful voice…”

– Billboard

“Lewis Capaldi is generating some huge buzz with ‘Fade.’ Produced by Malay (Frank Ocean’s long-time collaborator), the emotional ballad showcases the 20-year-old Scot’s powerful pipes and knack for insightful lyrics. It goes without saying that he’s One To Watch.”

– Idolator

“Showcasing his stunning vocals and songwriting ability, the track is breathtakingly beautiful and an exciting glimpse of what’s to come.”

– Wonderland

“The vocal range of the guy is enough to impress anybody, and, as we see/hear here, all Lewis needs to have you in the palm of his hand is a simple piano playing throughout.”

– hillydilly

“Glasgow singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi has one of the most remarkable, tender voicesI’ve heard in a long time.”

– Independent

“(Lewis Capaldi) seems able to find the beauty in the everyday, to translate deeply personal experiences into something universal.”

– Clash

“A Lewis Capaldi show is undoubtedly a rollercoaster of emotions everyone must experience… If you haven’t already listened to (his new track) ‘Fade,’ what have you been doing?”

SOLE DXB

SOLE DXB 2017 ANNOUNCES HEAVYWEIGHT PROGRAM FEATURING KANO, PUSHA T, GOLDLINK, HIROSHI FUJIWARA, JEFF STAPLE, MELODY EHSANI AND MORE

THIS DECEMBER 7-9, THE ANNUAL DUBAI-BASED STREET CULTURE FAIR RETURNS FOR ITS 6TH EDITION at DUBAI DESIGN DISTRICT (d3)

Tuesday 24 October, 2017, Sole DXB in partnership with d3, announces its full program for 2017, with the support of Cadillac, Coca Cola and in association with Dubai Tourism. The three-day global street culture festival returns this December 7th, 8th and 9th at d3, Dubai, revealing a heavyweight billing that brings together some of the world’s finest names from across art, food, music, sports and style. Having celebrated American Hip Hop heritage in 2015, and its British street-evolved counterpart in 2016, Sole DXB returns in 2017 to spotlight the legacy and influence of Japanese contemporary design.

Reflecting the booming appetite for alternative culture that Sole DXB has steadily cultivated since its inception in 2010. Sole DXB is again delighted to call Dubai Design District (d3) home to the region’s only street and urban culture festival. Mirroring what d3 has set out to achieve; to build a thriving creative neighbourhood for a diverse community that share common interests.

The confirmed music billing for 2017 welcomes hip-hop greats of both present and future. Artists to perform most notably include award-winning musician Kano, G.O.O.D Music President and rapper Pusha T, American silk-soul rapper Goldlink, German rapper Serious Klein, and Manchester urban jazz singer IAMDDB, hailed as one of the breakout stars of 2017 and already amassing streams in excess of 1 million hits per track. And it wouldn’t be Sole DXB without some intimate after-parties, with the OGs DJ Stretch Armstrong, DJ Shortkut, streetwear icons PATTA Soundsystem, and DJs Tom Crane, Dave Lubin, and Andy Baxter providing the flavours this year.

Opening night Thursday 7th December welcomes all to a now-ritual free-to-public annual film screening. This year, with the international premiere of Word is Bond is the turn of Mass Appeal and their recently produced hip-hop documentary, to take centre stage. Directed by Mass Appeal’s Chief Creative Officer, Sacha Jenkins, the documentary examines the

transformative power of lyrics in the world of Hip Hop. With an open door policy, it’s the first in a long line of socially driven moves from Sole DXB aimed at providing legitimate, culturally-weighted entertainment, stimulating grass roots artistry.

On Friday 8th December, Sole DXB opens in its entirety, with a series of cultural talks unveiled, including intimate ‘no holds barred’ conversations with some of the biggest names in design, fashion and music. These include: headlining musician Pusha T; Fragment Design founder and much heralded Godfather of Streetwear Hiroshi Fujiwara; designer and style icon Jeff Staple of Staple Design; Peter Bittenbender, CEO of New York-based media company/record label Mass Appeal (of which hip hop legend Nas is a partner); founder of global alternative culture platform Highsnobiety, David Fischer makes a guest appearance; jewelry designer and famously the only woman to own a store front on notorious LA shopping destination Fairfax Avenue, Melody Ehsani; and Peter Jansson and Mubi Ali – founder and head buyer respectively of Sweden-born cult classic (and previous Online Retailer of the Year winner) sneaker retailer Sneakersnstuff.

From conversation to conversion, a host of highly sought after brands will show and retail never-before-seen wares across the weekend, each individually housed in bespoke retail units taking design cues from the finesse of Tokyo architecture. In parallel with some of the world’s biggest lifestyle brands on display including Asics, Nike, PUMA, Reebok. Japanese designers will provide some of the most highly-sought-after and hard-to-find product over the weekend, from brands including Neighborhood, Visvim, Wacko Maria, Undercover, Non-Native, and White Mountaineering. A sign of the growing importance of streetwear in the fashion sector, Sole DXB also enter into the world of luxury for the very first time – partnering with two standout luxury brands to preview their forward collections and create unique retail experiences for guests; the brands, both luxe icons: Dior Homme and Kenzo.

It was in 2010 that Sole DXB was founded, back then in a small Dubai community arts centre. What began as a small gathering of like-minded sneaker and hip-hop lovers coming together to swap kicks and share tracks, has rapidly grown into a 17,000 person, 3-day annual event with the support of the world’s leading cultural figures. A testament to the rise of the event and the region, Sole DXB is now a mainstay in the global events calendar and, when it comes to pushing cultural boundaries, is proving itself again as the one to watch.

Eurythmics

IN AN EXTRAORDINARY EVENT, EIGHT EURYTHMICS ALBUMS WILL BE RELEASED ON VINYL IN 2018

One of the most revered and respected pop groups of the 1980s, Eurythmics, with over 20 international hits and 80 million albums sold, is in the spotlight once again, both for their nomination for the 2018 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the impending re-release of their eight RCA studio albums on vinyl.

Spanning their entire career, the albums will be released by Sony Music between April and October 2018, starting with In The Garden (1981), Sweet Dreams (1983) and Touch (1983) on April 13, 2018, followed by Be Yourself Tonight (1985), Revenge (1986) and Savage (1987) in July 2018 and We Too Are One (1989) and Peace (1999) in October 2018. This will be the first time that Peace will be available on vinyl, as the original release was only available in two formats: CD and cassette.

Also new from Eurythmics: an 11-minute unique video EURYTHMIX retrospective compiled and mixed by DJ Earworm and sourced from 23 Eurythmics  videos from 1983 to 2005. The songs included are: “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This),” “Who’s That Girl?,” “I Need a Man,” “(I Love to Listen to) Beethoven,” “Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four),” “Julia,” “Thorn In My Side,” “Love Is a Stranger,” “It’s Alright (Baby’s Coming Back),” “Revival,” “I Saved the World Today,” “Here Comes The Rain Again,” “Would I Lie to You?,” “There Must Be an Angel (Playing With My Heart),” “Angel,” “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,” “Missionary Man,” “When Tomorrow Comes,” “The King and Queen of America,” “17 Again,” “You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart,” “Don’t Ask Me Why,” “I’ve Got a Life” and a reprise of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This).”

“In the early ’80s, videos were a new and innovative phenomena, offering musical artists the possibility to feature interpretations of their songs through the combined medium of moving imagery and sound,”says Lennox. Eurythmics embraced this concept wholeheartedly as a fresh expression of the creative process which came naturally and easily to them. EURYTHMIX by Eurythmics is a brand-new long form video piece, using excerpts from their prolific creative outpouring throughout the years, representing the broadly eclectic range of the musical and visual legacy created by the duo. It is classic, timeless and visionary.

Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox both have a long relationship with the vinyl format. “My dad blew my mind when I was six years old because he built his own Gramophone,” says Stewart. “He had the albums for every Rodgers & Hammerstein musical and he switched his homebuilt record player on and you heard this crackling sound and then, ‘Boom!’ I remember walking to school singing ‘I Enjoy Being a Girl.’”

“We had a pink, plastic Dansette record player,”recalls Lennox. “Someone gave me some birthday money and the first record I bought was Mary Poppins. It was magical and wonderful. Before that, I used to visit my grandparents and they had a 78rpm record player. I’d go in the attic and find their box of records. I was entranced by The Merry Widow.”

As for the release of the eight Eurythmics albums on vinyl, Annie calls the event “extraordinary.” Dave adds, “To buy a vinyl album, you have to have a record player and you have to have speakers, and this is a great thing because that means people are going to listen to your music not on a cell phone, but they’re going to listen to it out of a sound system, which is what we all did when we were growing up. The important thing about vinyl releases is that people buy them and actually put them on the turntable and listen to a side, because we chose the tracks to be played in a particular order, and that was really important.”

“If you’re doing a concert, it has to have a shape,”Annie elaborates. “Otherwise, it’s just disparate. So we gave a lot of thought to the order of the songs. Dave would write his order and I would write mine. We might shift a song but we would come to an agreement so the listening experience had a continuum on one side and then you would flip the album over.”

As for the new vinyl releases, Stewart assures,“They will sound better. In the archives, we have the original half-inch masters, which have a fantastic sound. That’s what we’re going from, not the digital remasters where the sound has been compressed.”

Listening to the career-spanning set of eight albums, one realizes why Eurythmics were so acclaimed by critics and fans alike, and why they won so many awards, including an MTV Music Video Award for Best New Artist in 1984, a Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group in 1987, three Ivor Novello Awards, a Brit Award  in 1999 for Outstanding Contribution to British music (plus 10 more Brit Awards for Stewart and Lennox), a Silver Clef Award in 2000, as well as the duo’s 2005 induction into the U.K. Music Hall of Fame and 26 ASCAP Awards to “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” for most performed song of the year.

Now, Dave and Annie are enjoying their nomination for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in America“Being British, we never thought that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame had anything to do with us,”says Stewart. “So when we were nominated, we thought, ‘What?!’ And then we saw there were other British acts, like Depeche Mode and Dire Straits. They are incredible legends, and we’re honored to be nominated.” “It’s lovely and flattering,” adds Lennox. Fans can vote Eurythmics into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame here.

The eight Eurythmics RCA studio albums being released on vinyl in 2018 will all feature the original artwork, illustrations and liner notes.
