Aston Martin Vantage

Introducing the new vantage: THE SUCCESSOR TO A TRUE SPORTING DYNASTY
  • All-new Vantage defined by bold new look, intensified performance and dynamics
  • Powered by 4.0-liter, 503bhp/505lb.ft twin-turbo V8 mated to eight-speed ZF transmission
  • Maximum speed 195mph. 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds
  • First Aston Martin to be fitted with an Electronic Rear Differential (E-Diff)
  • Deliveries scheduled to begin third quarter of 2018

Vantage. An evocative name for a magnificent bloodline of thoroughbred sports cars. For seven decades the heartbeat of Aston Martin’s purest models, successive generations have built an enviable reputation for thrilling performance and enduring popularity. Today this formidable sporting dynasty is poised to hit new heights with the introduction of the new Vantage.

A spectacular new Aston Martin sports car demands a bold and distinctive design language. Pure, sculptural forms create an athletic, predatory stance, while the minimal front and rear overhangs, muscular flanks and broad haunches express the agility and dynamism inherent within the car. New head and tail lights form dramatic new signatures giving the Vantage unmistakable road presence and contribute to a strong and individual identity within the growing Aston Martin model range.

Aerodynamic performance is central to the Vantage concept: the front splitter directs airflow underneath the car, where a system of fences channels cooling air where it is needed, and also ensures the rear diffuser is fed with clean airflow. The design of the diffuser creates an area of low pressure air, while simultaneously preventing turbulence generated by the rear wheels from disrupting the flow of air exiting centrally from beneath the rear of the car.

Together with the new side gills, which have been integrated into the body surface and bleed air pressure out from the front wheel arches, and the pronounced upswept rear deck lid, the Vantage generates a significant level of downforce – a rarity on any production car and a first for a core production Aston Martin model.

The exciting design story continues inside the Vantage, with a dynamic and focused sports car cockpit that rejects long, fluid curves in favour of sharp, focused lines denoting the more aggressive nature of the car. A high waist interior theme and lower driving position creates a more immersive driving experience, and contributes to significant gains in occupant space and significant improvement in headroom compared with the outgoing Vantage. A combination of rotary and toggle style controls have been used for their unmatched tactile and intuitive functionality. Likewise the PRND transmission buttons have been moved into a triangular formation so as to cluster major controls into clearly defined zones. The interior also offers generous stowage space, with useable room behind the seats and generous double-tier storage areas.

The heart of the Vantage is Aston Martin’s potent new alloy, 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine.  Set low and as far back in the chassis as possible for optimal centre-of-gravity and perfect 50:50 weight distribution, this high performance, high efficiency engine returns a CO2 figure of *245g/km yet develops 503bhp at 6000rpm and 505lb.ft from 2000-5000rpm. With a dry weight of 3373lb this gives the Vantage formidable power-to-weight and torque-to-weight ratios – something vividly demonstrated whenever the throttle is squeezed. Detailed tuning of the induction, exhaust and engine management systems has given the Vantage a truly intoxicating character and soundtrack.

The Vantage deploys its impressive power and torque to the rear wheels via a rear-mounted ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. Capable of accelerating from 0 to 60mph in 3.6 seconds and on to a maximum speed of 195mph, it employs a sophisticated suite of integrated electronic systems to offer maximum control and driver enjoyment. These include Dynamic Stability Control and Dynamic Torque Vectoring. The speed-dependent electric power steering has 2.4 turns lock-to-lock for a perfect combination of quick-wits and precise, intuitive control.

For the first time on an Aston Martin the new Vantage also features an Electronic Rear Differential (E-Diff). This differential is linked to the car’s electronic stability control system, so it can understand the car’s behavior, and react accordingly to direct the engine’s power to the relevant wheel. Unlike a conventional LSD, it can go from fully open to 100% locked in a matter of milliseconds.  At higher speeds, the Electronic Differential’s speed and sensitivity of response enables the system to take very fine control of the car’s dynamic behaviour. It makes the car feel much more composed both in terms of its straight-line stability and its cornering performance, providing the driver with increased levels of confidence to explore and enjoy the car’s capabilities to the full.

The chassis is an evolution of the latest generation bonded aluminium structure first seen on the DB11, though some 70 per cent of the structure’s components are new for Vantage. Balance, strength, rigidity and weight efficiency were all priorities in the new Vantage design, as was handling purity and consistency. Highlights of the chassis include a solidly mounted rear subframe for an enhanced feeling of direct connection for the driver, new Pirelli P Zero tyres developed specifically for new Vantage and the latest generation Adaptive Damping System which incorporates Skyhook technology and offers the choice of Sport, Sport Plus and Track modes.

Thanks to full integration of engine, transmission, E-Diff, Dynamic Torque Vectoring, Dynamic Stability Control, Adaptive Damping and the electric power steering systems, each mode optimises every area of the car as one. With each step the Vantage gains in agility and responsiveness, its character becoming progressively sharper, more vocal and more exciting. This is the essence of the Vantage driving experience – a car that’s never less than connected and engaging with the breadth of capability to revel in challenging roads and bare its teeth on track.

The Vantage features a high level of standard equipment, including keyless start/stop, tyre pressure monitoring system and Parking Distance Display, Park Assist and front and rear parking sensors. The In-Car Entertainment system – controlled and viewed via a centrally mounted 8” LCD screen – comprises of the Aston Martin Audio System, Bluetooth® audio and phone streaming, iPod®, iPhone® and USB playback. There is also an integrated satellite navigation system and wi-fi hub.

Being an Aston Martin, the new Vantage also features a high level of craftsmanship, evidenced by flawless paintwork, luxurious Alcantara® and leather upholstery and a fabulous level of finish using tactile natural materials of the highest quality. There is also extensive scope for personalisation via a generous choice of options. These include forged alloy wheels in a variety of finishes, Sports Plus Collection (comprising Sports Plus seats and Sports steering wheel), carbon fibre interior and exterior detailing and a Premium Audio System.

Aston Martin President Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andy Palmer said: “It speaks volumes for the outgoing Vantage that it is the single most successful model in Aston Martin’s history. Creating a worthy successor has been a challenge to relish and a huge source of motivation. I’m enormously excited by what we’ve created: a new Vantage that’s more explicit in looks and intent, wrapping heart-pounding performance and dazzling dynamics into an everyday usable package. A true sports car with a sharper look and a keener dynamic edge, the new Vantage is the Aston Martin pure driving machine enthusiasts have been waiting for.”

The new Vantage is on sale now with a recommended retail price from $149,995 in the USA. Deliveries are scheduled to begin during the third quarter of 2018.

Red Bull Bulletin x Jean-Claude

Jean-Claude is the Real Damme Deal (Article Courtesy Of The Red Bulletin)

The legendary action star returns with a new secret weapon: comedy. We talk to the Muscles from Brussels about his new show on Amazon and why he’s ready to crush your funny bone.

With the help of stunt performers and green screens, these days it feels like almost any actor can slap on some tights and become a superhero in a big-budget studio film. All he needs is an easy-to-pronounce first name — like Chris — and a trainer to transform his flab into six-pack abs for that token shirtless scene. But before capes and CGI ruled the box office, there were action stars like Jean-Claude Van Damme.

During the early 1990s, Van Damme, with his trademark roundhouse kicks and acrobatic splits, was one of the biggest stars in the world. As a skilled martial artist, he performed his own stunts in films like “Bloodsport” and “Timecop” and charmed audiences — and especially ladies — with his thick French accent and flirtatious demeanor. In the ensuing years, as Hollywood’s interest in traditional action flicks waned and comic book franchises took over, stars like Van Damme were frequently relegated to the land of straight-to-video release.

Despite the demotion, Van Damme has maintained a devoted fan base, and over the past decade, his cult status has rejuvenated interest in his career. First there was “JCVD,” the 2008 Belgian crime drama where Van Damme played a fictionalized version of himself. His acting was so raw and vulnerable that Time magazine said it was the second- best performance of the year — after Heath Ledger as the Joker in “The Dark Knight.” Then in 2013, Van Damme starred in a Volvo commercial where he slowly executes “the most epic of splits” between two moving FM trucks. The viral clip has been viewed on YouTube more than 86 million times — and counting.

Now, four years later, the 57-year-old Van Damme is promoting his latest project, “Jean-Claude Van Johnson,” a new comedy series on Amazon. Once again, he plays a version of himself, this time as an aging action star who comes out of retirement to work as a private undercover agent. As Van Damme reveals in our interview, his comic alter ego seems much more in tune with how he sees himself today.

Read the full interview HERE

Jean-Claude Van Johnson is available on Amazon Prime Video on Dec. 15.

Capitol Records Continues Celebration of 75th Anniversary With Second Installment of Holiday & Seasonal Classics

Capitol Records’ celebration of its 75th anniversary continues with the release of A Capitol Christmas Volume 2, a collection of 24 timeless holiday and seasonal classics sung by the label’s unmatched list of legends. Available now digitally and on 2CD, and December 1 as a double LP in gatefold cover, the album brings together some of pop music’s most iconic holiday songs with extremely rare recordings originally issued in very limited release. Volume 2’s list of singers includes Glen Campbell, The Beach Boys, Wayne Newton, Lena Horne, Dinah Shore, Nancy Wilson, Johnny Mercer, The Louvin Brothers and many more, with each contribution lovingly chronicled in liner notes provided by compilation producer Jay Landers.

Order and stream A Capitol Christmas Volume 2: http://lnk.to/CapitolChristmas2

A fitting companion to last year’s timeless collection, A Capitol Christmas Volume 2 continues to mine Capitol’s deep reservoir of holiday and seasonal standards sung by millions of celebrants each winter. The album features Wayne Newton’s jubilant takes on the rockabilly Christmas classic “Jingle Bell Rock” and perennial favorite “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” both originally released in 1966 on his first holiday album, Songs For A Merry Christmas, three years after his debut record on Capitol. Glen Campbell was one of Capitol’s most iconic stars of the ‘60s and ‘70s, recording a remarkable 40 albums for the label. In 1968, on the heels of a string of hit albums – the Grammy Award-winning By The Time I Get To Phoenix and Gentle On My Mind and the #1 record Wichita Lineman – Campbell teamed back up with Capitol’s in-house producer and arranger Al De Lory for That Christmas Feeling. The album is showcased here with Campbell’s exquisite rendition of the Elvis Presley-immortalized “Blue Christmas” and the lesser known “Old Toy Trains,” which was written by his good friend Roger Miller and shows off a different side of the singer. Second only to the Beatles, The Beach Boys were Capitol’s most popular recording act from the ‘60s until the end of the decade. For their fifth Capitol release, Brian Wilson turned his attention to the holidays, asking Four Freshmen’s arranger, Dick Reynolds, to write the charts for a 40-piece orchestra. The result was 1964’s The Beach Boys’ Christmas Album which featured their sunny take on “Frosty the Snowman” and Wilson’s original “Christmas Day,” which marked rhythm guitarist Al Jardine’s debut as a lead singer, both included here.

The album spotlights some of the best of Capitol’s Christmas recordings from the 1940s, ’50 and ‘60s and transports listeners to a simpler time. Take thirteen-year-old Molly Bee’s “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus,” which caused a stir in 1952 when the song’s lyrics were condemned by the Catholic Church of Boston, but has survived to become a modern holiday classic, as easily recognizable as more traditional fare like “White Christmas.” Irving Berlin’s iconic song is represented here with a tranquil guitar and vocal-driven version by six-string legend Les Paul and his foil Mary Ford. Other chestnuts include crooner Al Martino’s lush, orchestral “Silver Bells” and Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians instrumental “Auld Lang Syne,” a song so ubiquitous it’s the soundtrack to New Year’s Eve around the world.

In addition to the beloved seasonal standards, the holiday compilation also features rare and interesting takes throughout like Nancy Wilson’s perfect interpretation of Frank Sinatra’s “The Christmas Waltz,” a true rarity that only appeared on a December 1968 limited-press promotional LP, The Capitol Disc Jockey Album. The incomparable Dinah Shore’s delivers a lightly swinging rendition of “Jingle Bells” originally issued on an unknown number of complimentary vinyl discs that were distributed as Christmas cards in Chevrolet dealerships around the country. Accomplished recording artist and movie star Lena Horne is spotlighted with the joyous “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and the beautiful, pensive “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?” That song was a rare non-musical theater entry by Frank Loesser, composer of “Guys & Dolls” and “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” In Horne’s hands, the song becomes an alluring jazz ballad. And “Away in a Manger” in the hands of Charlie and Ira Louvin is nothing short of miraculous, full of raw emotion and the unrelenting shadow of sin the Louvins were so great at conveying.

In the true spirit of the holidays, A Capitol Christmas Volume 2 collects two dozen magical recordings that have helped to make the season bright for generations, bringing joy to the hearts and ears.

Country Stars Mourn the Loss Of Mel Tillis

“Kindest man I’ve ever known. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Gonna be some great country music in Heaven this Sunday.”

Billy Ray Cyrus

“My heart is just broken over the passing of the great Mel Tillis. I have so many wonderful memories with him. I’ll never forget working with him on ‘Love Boat’ with Dottie West. We just go way back – from the time I was 8 years old when he brought me on stage with him. When I got older, sometimes I had to use other bands because I didn’t have a band. Mel always let me use his band and I’ll never forget that. We remained friends right up until the end. Love you, Mel.”

Tanya Tucker

“There are stand-up comedians and then there’s Mel Tillis. His hilarious misadventures out on the road are legendary. Just ask Mac Davis or Ray Stevens. I also know Mel as my friend. Upbeat guy who admirably turned his stuttering into an asset and educated everyone on how to overcome stereotypes. There will never be anyone else like Mel Tillis.”

Naomi Judd

“We’re so sad to hear about the passing of Mel Tillis, but we feel so fortunate to have known him. Prayers and condolences to all of his family.”

Bellamy Brothers

“Mel was a true country legend. A singer, a songwriter and entertainer. Like Ray Price, Mel was a forerunner in bringing a big band to country with 3 fiddles. As big as he was, he made time to come visit when I was in the studio. When I was in Branson, he would often drop by. I recorded Mel’s song ‘Burning Memories.’ He was just a genuine nice guy and we will all miss him dearly.”

–Gene Watson

“Rest In Peace my brother Mel. Love to you and your family.”

Phil Vassar

“I had the honor of sitting and talking with Mel a couple of times. He’s such a great man. I loved his jokes, stories and songs. He’s another legend that will be missed, but never forgotten.”
