PRINCE

The Prince Estate, alongside Pantone Color Institute™, the global color authority, announced today the creation of a standardized custom color to represent and honor international icon, Prince. The (naturally) purple hue, represented by his “Love Symbol #2” was inspired by his custom-made Yamaha purple piano, which was originally scheduled to go on tour with the performer before his untimely passing at the age of 57. The color pays tribute to Prince’s indelible mark on music, art, fashion and culture. The announcement was first made on Refinery29, read here

Prince’s association with the color purple was galvanized in 1984 with the release of the film Purple Rain, along with its Academy Award-winning soundtrack featuring the eponymous song. While the spectrum of the color purple will still be used in respect to the “Purple One,” Love Symbol #2, will be the official color across the brand he left behind.

“The color purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be. This is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever,” said Troy Carter, Entertainment Advisor to Prince’s Estate.

The ‘Purple One’ made a statement and challenged cultural norms through both his well-known music and personal style. In addition to the Oscar, Prince won seven Grammy Awards and a Golden Globe Award for Purple Rain. Both “Purple Rain” and “1999” were entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the very first year he was eligible.

Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute said: “We are honored to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade created in memory of Prince, ‘the purple one.’ A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.”

The Estate is in conversation with various partners about collaboration on products that incorporate the custom color.

Multi-platinum recording artist, DEV is set to release her sophomore album, I Only See You When I’m Dreamin’ (IOSYWID) September 8, which is available for pre-order now HERE! Fans who pre-order the album will receive two new songs, the sassy-sweet “All I Wanna Do,” and the female anthem “Come At Me.” This will mark DEV’s first album to be released simultaneously to retail and streaming platforms. With a crew of collaborators that include Sarah Hudson (Katy Perry, Halsey, Rita Ora), MNDR, Marko Penn and producers Sam Sumser, Ritual, Isaac Valens and Mike Mac, the album finds Dev reclaiming her bass-heavy hip-pop beats that shot her to chart stardom, but with a reinvigorated sense of singer-songwriter swagger.

“All I Wanna Do” prompts the familiar Dev-like bounce, while lyrically the track ventures into Minaj-worthy raunch, but it’s Dev’s vocals and harmonies that shine through the sass. “The balance of how bouncy it is, but with how sexy and girly the lyrics and melody are fit really well,” Dev says of the track. “Usually a lot of male driven songs will usually be like ‘I wanna F you!’ so this will be so fun to perform from my point of view.”

The additional release, “Come at Me” is somewhat of a yin to “All I Wanna Do”’s yang. Lyrically, Dev urges a “don’t-take-any-BS” attitude over a highly catchy melody.

In it’s entirety, IOSYWID, serves as ode to Dev’s past—the good, the bad, the fun and the sad. Inspired by dreams and thoughts about those who she has since lost touch with, the vibe of the album radiates a theme of self-reflection from her current perspective. Dev takes listeners on a full-circle journey from late night sexting (“Drunk Texting”) to the piano laden heartbreak of (“Alone Again”).

This full length album follows Dev’s break-out 2012 debut album, The Night the Sun Came Up, which features the platinum “In the Dark,” and landed her critical acclaim, spots on influential end-of-year lists, numerous brand syncs and commercial success. In 2013 and 2014 she released two complimenting EPs, Bittersweet July Part I and Bittersweet July Part II. 2016 saw the release and success of “#1” f/ Nef the Pharoah, which peaked at #15 on the rhythmic radio chart. With over 350M video views, a Billboard #1 hit, multi-platinum & gold certified song successes, and countless collaborations, IOSYWID promises to continue to propel Dev as the sleek, speak-sing pop pioneer of her generation.

“Get What You Give” Remixes Out Today

Single Topped Hype Machine’s “Popular Now” Chart

“[a] feel-good adaptation of the 1998 [New Radicals] single, which seamlessly rises above traditional conventions of genre and format.” – Dancing Astronaut

Capitol Records has signed Felix Cartal in the U.S. The JUNO-nominated artist has won praise for his glistening version of the 1998 New Radicals hit, “Get What You Give,” coming on the heels of the success of such original songs as “Drifting Away,” “Falling Down” and his collaboration with Kaskade, “Fakin It.” Cartal’s official remixes of Kiiara’s “Feels,” Wafia’s “Heartburn” and Selena Gomez’s “Kill Em With Kindness” have topped The Hype Machine charts.

“Get What You Give” Remixes (Capitol Records), which includes remixes by DLMT & Vanrip, Bobby Love, Ship Wrek & Part Native and Billon, was released today. The four-track collection is available for download and streaming HERE.

Spotify streams of “Get What You Give” have surpassed eight million and the track has ranked in the top 15 of Spotify’s viral chart in five countries. It topped The Hype Machine Popular Now chart, was the #1 most-played track on SiriusXM Chill and climbed into the top five of the Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists chart. Beats 1’s Anna Lunoe was an early fan and everyone from Sam Feldt and R3HAB to Martin Garrix and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike have supported on the DJ front. Dancing Astronaut, YOUREDM and Billboard all concurred, hailing “Get What You Give” as a “feel-good” hit.

“This song has been important to me ever since I heard it. It’s one of those songs that feels familiar the first time you hear it, the soundtrack to your life that you didn’t know you were missing,” says Felix Cartal.”At first, I was tentative to put my own take on it, do you really touch a classic? But I kept thinking about this song nearly 20 years after it came out and…I had to try. The lyrics actually seem more relevant as I get older, almost a 90’s take on The Beatles’ ‘and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.’ If I can showcase how important they were to me in a new format to the next generation, then I’ll feel like it was worth it.”

The Vancouver, BC native has gone from playing bass in high school punk rock bands to being nominated for a JUNO and performing at some of the world’s biggest music festivals. Never content to repeat himself, Cartal’s artistic evolution has resulted in a unique take on indie dance music, defined by beautiful vocals and driving bass. “Fakin It,” his original collaboration with Kaskade, showcased his songwriting prowess and solidified him among the biggest names of the North American electronic music scene. Cartal dropped the anthemic “Drifting Away” and the club-ready “Falling Down,” in late 2016, again topping the charts. With the release of “Get What You Give” and his remix of Galantis’ “Rich Boy,” he continues to push his sound in new directions.

TRACK DAY WITH LIFERUSH ADVENTURES

By Anthony Sovinsky + Vaughn Lowery

Humans are unique in their ability to overcome the unimaginable. We are forced to explore the unknown –  to push our physical and mental limits. Brave people have taken chances and it has shaped our universe for the better. Whether we are attempting to climb the highest mountain or land our dream job, the thrill of doing something we haven’t done before creates a spark and meaning in our lives. For some of us this becomes a constant journey of discovering the next big thrill or adventure to add to the list of successes. Whether it be a bucket list item or just a childhood aspiration.

LifeRush Adventures is a society striving to deliver outdoor adventures that appeal to the adrenal glands. Recently, we received the pleasure of accompanying them on a trip to the world renowned Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. This course has been in operation for over 40+ years and has hosted some of the greatest races of all time. In 2008, Mazda Raceway was home to the Redbull U.S. Grand Prix where Valentino Rossi (multiple MotoGP World Champion) overtakes Casey Stoner in The Corkscrew (one of the hardest turns in motor racing in which you hit a blind cress into a three-story drop with a unique left-right combination) to win the race. It was Rossi’s first win in America; and he kisses The Corkscrew in front of 150,000 spectators.

LifeRush Adventures in collaboration with Fast Toys Club makes these spectacular track events possible. Every month they take a different track and list an exotic car to commission (Lamborghini Huracan, Porsche 911, Audi R8, etc.) for your driving pleasure. Or, if you own a sports car, you can track it at $359/day.  Moreover, they possess excellent team building/corporate packages, beginning at $3,000 (includes one supercar plus six laps around the track per person).

At Mazda Raceway, we were offered a 2017 Corvette Z06. In the morning, we started out with an instructional meeting on how to navigate the track: how and when to pass vehicles; the distinction of flags used; additional safety measures and the proper way to ‘hit the apex.’

Moments after, we paired up with a coach (or ride along instructor), we strapped on our helmets and fastened our passenger seat belts. If you’re a confident driver just hop in the driver’s seat.

LifeRush Adventures also offers an array of spontaneous activities: helicopter tours, costal exotic car drives, paddle boarding and flyboarding.
