The Very Best of Diana Krall

Verve Records/UMe are celebrating the legacy of the incomparable multiplatinum GRAMMY® Award-winning singer and pianist Diana Krall by releasing The Very Best of Diana Krall on vinyl for the first time in the U.S., as the greatest hits collection nears its 10th anniversary. The album is available today, July 28 as a two-LP set on audiophile-favorite 180-gram vinyl and follows last year’s release of eight essential Diana Krall albums on vinyl as part of Verve’s 60th anniversary celebration. Covering the years 1996-2006, this 15-track collection compiled by Krall in collaboration with her longtime producer, the late Tommy LiPuma, features highlights from her first decade as a recording artist, during which time the Grammy winning singer/pianist’s expressive vocals and delicate, soulful piano work gained her international stardom. The album is available for purchase here.

“Easily the most high-profile female jazz artist of her generation,” says The New York Times, Krall has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide, making the Berklee College of Music graduate one of the best-selling jazz artists of all time. The Very Best on vinyl arrives as Krall celebrates the May release of her acclaimed new album, Turn Up the Quiet, and current tour that will last 2+ years, and take her around the world.

The selections on The Very Best range from intimate trio work to pieces recorded live with a full symphony orchestra. Krall delivers some deeply personal moments and reimagines timeless vintage standards by some of her favorite composers as George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hart, Van Heusen and Cahn, and Bacharach and David.

Overflowing with career highlights, the album includes several tracks from Krall’s towering 1999 international breakthrough, When I Look in Your Eyes: her mesmerizing interpretations of Cole Porter’s “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Let’s Fall in Love,” and “Pick Yourself Up.” That album, her Verve Records debut, was nominated for Album of the Year at the 42nd annual GRAMMY® Awards, the first time in 25 years a jazz singer was nominated in that major category. It won for Best Jazz Vocal and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical).

Throughout the album, Krall’s artistry is highlighted on the Gershwin standard “’S Wonderful” and the Bacharach and David-penned title track from her 2001 GRAMMY® Award-winning album, The Look of Love. This album put her atop her native Canada’s all-genre albums chart for the first time and gave her the Artist and Album of the Year trophies at the Juno Awards in her home country.
The collection is also notable for Krall’s imaginative take on Tom Waits’ “The Heart of Saturday Night” and the dark and seductive “You Go to My Head” taken from The Look of Love sessions, both previously unreleased. It also features beautiful live renditions of “East of the Sun (West of the Moon)” and “Fly Me To The Moon,” recorded with a symphony orchestra at Krall’s sold-out concerts at Paris’ Olympia Theatre for her remarkable live album, Live In Paris.

Included on Billboard’s Top Jazz Albums of the Decade list, The Very Best of Diana Krall is both the perfect sampler for the new listener and a reminder for her most passionate fans all the reasons Diana Krall is regarded as one of the greatest Jazz artists of her time.

2018 ROLLS-ROYCE PHANTOM

Watch the Unveiling LIVE!

By Shin Takei × Vaughn Lowery

July 27, 2017 was an epic day in London.  No it’s not about Brexit or the revival of the Beatles. It’s the introduction of the eighth Rolls Royce Phantom which started in 1925 with the first Phantom. Owned by those who seek extraordinary luxury the Phantom has been labelled the Best Car in the World. The actor, dancer entertainer Fred Astaire owned a Phantom I. Throughout its history those demanding the highest luxury drove a Phantom.

History of Phantom

History of Phantom (1925-2016)

The all-new 2018 Phantom VIII looks magnificent and no one will mistake it for anything but a Rolls Royce. A new sloping radiator grill with chrome strips starting at the top corners and leading back to wrap over the windshield is design cue that harks back to earlier Phantoms. The car is lower than the Phantom VII but looks more substantial and definitely keeps the Rolls Royce DNA.

2

The Phantom VIII features an all-aluminum chassis architecture that will be shared by all future models. It gives “A Magic Carpet Ride” for the passengers because it’s lighter, stiffer, quieter and technologically advanced. As you enter the “Suite”, the “Embrace” feature senses your presence and softly closes the door after you. You are then in front of “The Gallery” a full-width art work that can be commissioned that spans the entire dashboard. Of course, there are champagne coolers and crystal flutes and wine chillers and glasses that you can enjoy in your individual suite. The Suite is the chamber of the most luxurious surrounding inside any car and one you would want in your house.

4

An all-new 6.75 Liter Twin Turbo V12 powers the Phantom VIII and is quieter and smoother than ever. We have yet to drive or ride in one yet, but we will be reporting on it as soon as we get out hands on one. For more information, visit Rolls Royce Motor Cars Official.

unnamed.jpg

Polar cruise specialist Poseidon Expeditions recently turned its hand to filmmaking and walked with two awards from some 15 honors handed out at the 3rd Russian Fulldome Festival and Planetarium Conference 2017 held June 13-15, 2017, in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Yaroslavl, Russia.

unnamed-2Over the three-day gathering, the audience and jury viewed 50 feature films and video clips produced by creative teams from over 20 countries including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany, the United States, France, Greece, Argentina and Thailand. The conference itself assembled university lecturers, leading researchers, astronomers, fulldome producers, planetarium educators and others interested in the development and popularization of fulldome format. (According to Wikipedia, “Fulldome refers to immersive dome-based video projection environments. The dome, horizontal or tilted, is filled with real-time (interactive) or pre-rendered (linear) computer animations, live capture images, or composited environments.”)

On the festival jury were eminent Russian scientists, planetarians and fulldome lovers: Sergey Yazev, head of the Jury, Director of the ISU Observatory; Thomas Kraupe, Director of Hamburg Planetarium; Mikhail Gavrilov, Academic Secretary of the Scientific Council on Astronomy at the Russian Academy of Science; Theofanis Markopoulos, planetarium producer; Dmitry Belonozhko, Professor at the Department of Physics of Yaroslavl State University.

unnamed-3To evaluate each production jury members followed such criteria as the scientific value of the presented content, the quality of the film script and the visuals, the correspondence between the soundtrack and footage, and finally the uniqueness of the idea behind the film. Each fulldome production could be awarded the maximum of 25 points.

Poseidon Expeditions’’ 360º VR film, Our North Pole 360 took awards in the categories Best Fulldome Short Film and People’s Choice Award (short film). This state-of-the-art 360º virtual reality video experience uses pioneering techniques to share the North Pole realm with an online audience.

“Viewers can feel the strength as the nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Years of Victorysmashes through thick sea ice to take you to a place few other will ever have the chance to visit. While soaring above the endless ice fields in a virtual helicopter ride viewers may be left breathless, but we hope with a yearning to join us on a cruise,” said Nikolay Saveliev, president of Poseidon Expeditions (http://poseidonexpeditions.com/).
