CELLINI HOSTS A SPECIAL GREUBEL FORSEY EXHIBITION

NY — July 5, 2017

Cellini Jewelers and Greubel Forsey are presenting an exhibition that illustrates the celebrated Swiss atelier’s evolution since its 2004 debut. Open to the public from July 10 to 24, the “20 Calibres Retrospective Exhibition” will be held in Cellini’s boutique at 509 Madison Avenue. This special engagement offers collectors a rare opportunity to experience Greubel Forsey timepieces firsthand. The featured pieces spotlight a number of the company’s greatest achievements and span its entire collection, from the extraordinary Grande Sonnerie unveiled earlier this year to the Double Tourbillon 30° — the first calibre the brand ever created.

Highlights of the upcoming exhibition include:

• The Double Tourbillon 30° Technique Sapphire, which features a case carved from a single piece of sapphire crystal. Greubel Forsey will only produce eight of these timepieces and the one on display is among the last in the limited-edition series.

• The Double Balancier is one of the most technically advanced non-tourbillon pieces the brand offers. Guests will see the one-of-a-kind, blue-dial version that Greubel Forsey made exclusively for Cellini.

• The QP à Équation’s remarkable list of functions includes a tourbillon that’s set at a 25° angle and rotates once every 24 seconds, as well as a bi-directional perpetual calendar, equation of time, and indications for seasons, solstices and equinoxes.

Cellini’s NYC boutique is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

JAY-Z 13TH ALBUM 4:44 SCORES BIG!

In 4:44Shawn Carter discusses his infidelity to Beyonce, the meaning of the title, how Blue Ivy’s birth made him more mature and addresses the Kardashians.

In addition, his mom (Gloria Carter) ‘comes out’ as a lesbian during a touching duet.

At midnight 6/30, he dropped an exclusive audio clip during iHeartRadio‘s The Beat.

*No I.D. aka “Godfather of Chicago Hip-Hop” was named Executive Producer on 4:44.

“4:44”

“‘4:44’ is a song that I wrote, and it’s the crux of the album, just right in the middle of the album. And I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44 AM, to write this song. So it became the title of the album and everything. It’s the title track because it’s such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I’ve ever written.”

“Bam”

“The song ‘Bam’ with Damian Marley, it’s just jammin’, it’s just like the song. But it’s secretly Shawn Carter saying, ‘Man, you need a bit of ego.’ It was because of me and the things that I’ve done, this is JAY-Z saying you needed a bit of ego for us to arrive at this point.”

“Caught The Eye”

“‘Caught The Eye’ is a song that’s dealing with just being aware of your surroundings. There’s a line in it, and it says, ‘Your body language is all remedial, how could you see the difference between you and I?’ Just being so sharp about your surroundings.”

“Family Feud”

“‘Family Feud’ is about separation within the culture. Like, new rappers fighting with old rappers, saying all these things. So, the line is, ‘Nobody wins when the family feuds.'”

“Kill JAY-Z”

“The first song is called ‘Kill JAY-Z’ and obviously, it’s not to be taken literal. It’s really about the ego. It’s about killing off the ego, so we can have this conversation in a place of vulnerability and honesty.”

“Legacy”

“The song is just about what it is, it’s like a verbal will. Just a song about speaking to my daughter. She starts the song off, and she says ‘Daddy, what’s a will?'”

“Marcy Me”

“‘Marcy Me’ is a nostalgic walk through Marcy, and it’s about that hopefulness, that feeling of ‘Man, can I really do this? Can I really be one of the biggest artists in the world?’ You have these dreams, ‘Can I be one of the biggest basketball players?’ We have these dreams.”

“Moonlight”

“The hook is ‘We stuck in La La Land/Even if we win, we gonna lose.’ It’s like a subtle nod to La La Land winning the Oscar, and then having to give it to Moonlight. It’s really a commentary on the culture and where we’re going.”

“Smile”

“‘Smile’ is just what it is. There are gonna be bad times, and those bad times can do two things: they can get you in a place where you’re stuck in a rut, or it can make your future that much better because you’ve experienced these things.”

“The Story of OJ”

“‘The Story of OJ’ is really a song about we as a culture, having a plan, how we’re gonna push this forward. We all make money, and then we all lose money, as artists especially. But how, when you have some type of success, to transform that into something bigger.”

Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council Showcase UAE Designer Collections

As part of Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council’s ongoing initiatives to increase the international reach of the United Arab Emirates’ designers and artisans, the Sharjah-based council is heading to London to launch a unique pop-up retail space featuring the work of ten designers based in the UAE in one of Mayfair’s most luxurious department stores, Fenwick of Bond Street.

Under the generous patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of NAMA Women Advancement Establishment, and Royal Patron of Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, the pop-up store will take place over July and August, showcasing fashion, jewellery, porcelain tableware, and gift collections by the participating designers.

This partnership between Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council and Fenwick of Bond Street not only offers the opportunity to celebrate the immeasurable talent on offer within the United Arab Emirates, but also creates an internationally recognised presence and sustainable future for those practicing both modern and traditional crafts.

Five of the ten designers taking part in this curated space are from the Azyame Fashion Entrepreneurs Programme, one of the council’s flagship projects that offers one-to-one support for the next generation of UAE designers through a mix of workshops and business mentoring opportunities for one year, delivered in partnership with the London College of Fashion.

In addition, the Azyame programme’s specialist team of fashion experts and industry professionals also offered mentoring support to all ten designers headed to Fenwick of Bond Street, to prepare them for this opportunity as part of the council’s ongoing commitment to develop and nurture both the creative and entrepreneurial skills of the region.

Reem BinKaram, Director of NAMA, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Fenwick of Bond Street, a globally renowned department store, known for its elite brands and equally discerning clientele. It is an ideal fit for Irthi designers who are expanding their labels and presenting new opportunities to a target audience who will be able see the quality of their work. And for Fenwick, this is also in line with its history of promoting the latest quality brands.”

“This is a window of opportunity for our designers to establish a name for themselves on a wider scale and showcase their concepts, styles and ideas in one of the most important international markets,” BinKaram added.

Branding and product placement in all of the store’s window displays for a full month will be a massive boost to raising awareness of the individual designers and the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, creating a great amount of exposure and inevitable interest from industry professionals and passing shoppers alike.

Leo Fenwick from Fenwick of Bond Street, said: “Fenwick is known for its distinctiveness and innovation, and proud to partner with Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council; sharing its passion to expand the presence of local talent beyond the Middle East, as part of Fenwick’s ongoing commitment to promoting and nurturing the best of emerging international design.”

Proceeds from the sales will go back to support the participating designers, and in keeping with the programme of sustainability and nurturing traditional Emirati crafts, a percentage will be invested in ensuring the professional and social empowerment of women practicing the crafts in the United Arab Emirates and the wider Middle East and North Africa, South East, and Central Asia regions.

Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council is a champion of ethical, sustainable and innovative practices within the crafts sector and is developing skills to meet future requirements and highlighting potential opportunities.

Participating designers at the pop-up store include: Alia Bin Omair, Emirati jewellery artist inspired by heritage and raw materials of the Middle East; ‘Align’, a contemporary womenswear brand created by Emirati designers Sara Mahmood and Asma Mustafa;  Faissal El-Malak, womenswear designer that incorporates fabrics skillfully handwoven by artisans from the MENA region; Amal Haliq, Emirati jewellery designer adding her own take on fairytales and heritage crafts; Madiyah Al Sharqi, Emirati womenswear label incorporating luxurious fabrics with a contemporary silhouette designed by the label’s Royal namesake; and Zayan the Label, womenswear label by Zayan Ghandour, that effortlessly combines an eclectic mix of embellishments with a luxe, contemporary ready-to-wear silhouette.

Designers also include: IAMMAI, Emirati womenswear label, established by Mai Al Budoor, whose collection draws reference from palm trees found in the UAE; Neon Edge, womenswear label created by Mona Fares known for their signature use of colour and playful silhouettes; Twisted Roots, Emirati travel wear brand, founded by Latifa Al Gurg, who journeys from country to country for inspiration; and Designed by Hind, fine porcelain collections influenced by Emirati adornments and traditional crafts created by Sheikha Hind Majid Al Qassimi.

FELICIA TEMPLE: SINGER, SONGWRITER + SURVIVOR!

Originally from New Jersey, Felicia Temple was born into a musical family. Her dad, a touring musician, performed with renowned hip-hop group The Sugarhill Gang for as long as Felicia can remember. She grew up playing piano and learning sheet music, and was even called “Felicia Keys” around school [after one of her greatest influences – Alicia Keys]. As a singer/songwriter and pianist, Felicia honed her musical chops at the famed Village Underground in New York City, and went on to win audiences over at NYC’s famed SOB’s, DROM and Milk River where she headlined several sold-out showcases. Felicia has opened for acts including Angie Stone, Keke Wyatt, The O’Jays and SWV, and has performed the national anthem at numerous NBA and NCAA basketball games. Her music has also gone overseas with her touring in Moscow, Russia.

While music has always been her greatest passion, Felicia was always fascinated with medicine and helping people – she obtained a degree in nursing while also pursuing a solo career. In June 2015, she was diagnosed with carcinoid cancer. While undergoing six rounds of chemotherapy and extensive abdominal surgery, Felicia wrote and recorded her EP, “The Balancing Act.” She states, “This EP came to be as a way to cope while I was dealing with cancer. I wrote music to help me get through an extremely dark time. I put my heart and soul in it, completely writing and producing it with all live instrumentation. It is, without a doubt, my strongest body of work to date and a reminder that something beautiful can come out of something so horrible.” Today, while she still goes in for regular check ups with her oncologist, there is no evidence that the disease exists in her body.

In February 2017, Felicia joined the cast of NBC’s “The Voice,” competing on Blake Shelton’s team.  She was a stand out from day one, singing show-stopping ballads including: “All I Could Do Was Cry,” “Titanium,” “My Heart Will Go On” and “Defying Gravity.” Felicia’s story inspired millions of cancer survivors and musicians alike and set the stage for the release of her EP.
