YOUNG THUG RELEASES THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED “BEAUTIFUL THUGGER GIRLS”

ICONIC SUPERSTAR ANNOUNCES VISIONARY NEW PROJECT

WIDE RANGE OF INTERNATIONAL LIVE APPEARANCES SLATED THROUGH THE SUMMER

“BEAUTIFUL THUGGER GIRLS” ARRIVES EVERYWHERE TODAY

(New York, NY) 300 Entertainment recording artist Young Thug has announced details of his upcoming new project. “Beautiful Thugger Girls” is available at all digital music retailers and streaming services here.

“Beautiful Thugger Girls” sees the visionary multi-art form superstar singing all 14 tracks on a collection of songs recorded earlier this year. Young Thug heralded the project this week via a post on his hugely popular Instagram (@thuggerthugger1). The post earned immediate media attention from a number of top music media outlets.

One of popular music’s most charismatic and crowd-pleasing live performers, Young Thug will celebrate “Beautiful Thugger Girls” with a series of North American dates, including headline shows and appearances on Future’s blockbuster “Nobody Safe Tour” slated for Ridgefield, WA’s Sunlight Supply Amphitheater (June 11th) and Austin, TX’s Austin360 Amphitheater (June 23rd). Other U.S. dates include the star-studded BET Experience Live, at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on June 24th and Wantagh, NY’s Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival (August 19th-20th). In addition, appearances are also set for a number of upcoming European festivals, including London’s Wireless Festival (July 7th-9th), Gothenburg, Sweden’s Way Out West Festival (August 10th-12th), and Helsinki, Finland’s Flow Festival (August 11th-13th).

“Beautiful Thugger Girls” marks Young Thug’s first new release since last year’s widely acclaimed mixtape, JEFFERY. The 10-track collection, executive produced by Wheezy and TM88, is available now at all leading DSPs and streaming services.

JEFFERY made a spectacular chart debut upon its release, arriving at #8 on the overall Billboard 200 as well as at #5 on the “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” tally. The collection – which features tracks like “Wyclef Jean” and the smash “Pick Up The Phone (Feat. Quavo,” performed by Young Thug and Travis Scott – also drew unprecedented critical attention, with Rolling Stone applauding “Thugger’s strongest collection since 2014” by noting that, “as usual it’s Thug’s own sound that predominates: the heroic howls, rasps, mumbles and wheezes of a man who is as captivating a vocalist as any in pop.” The former Jeffery Lamar Williams makes black comedy out of irrepressible sound,” wrote legendary critic Robert Christgau in NOISEY, “cutting the fool with such delight that I found myself not just engaged but agape. Nude or digital, speaking or chanting, narrating or bragging, exclaiming or explaining, sobbing or gasping or chuckling or cackling, his hoohoos and melismas and blahs and mwas and frogcroaks and put-puts are the message.” “Thug understands the modern pop song construction better than anyone: anything and everything can be a hook,” declared Pitchfork. “For nearly 42 minutes, JEFFREY explores spacing, lines, form, texture, and beauty…It’s rangy and stunning, an exciting new curve in the fascinating Young Thug arc.”

ABOUT JAIRA BURNS
Singer Jaira (pronounced Jair-ruh) Burns discovered her voice the old fashioned way — in the shower. A precocious 9-year-old, who was always cranking up the radio and warbling along, she challenged her mother to an impromptu sing-off of the Pat Benatar classic, “Love Is A Battlefield.”
The family home had one tiny bathroom so Jaira’s mom was always in the mirror doing her makeup and singing while her daughter bathed. “I can do it just like that,” Jaira remembers hollering back one morning. “My mom was like, ‘No way, come on!’ She sings a line and I sing it back to her. Then she’s like, ‘Sing this line.’ We went back and forth until my mom blurts, ‘Oh my God, Jaira, you can really sing.’”
Born and raised in Vandergrift, a small, rundown town 30 miles outside of Pittsburgh, the prospects for Jaira actually breaking into the music industry were slim. But that didn’t stop the blossoming powerhouse vocalist from putting in work. She honed her natural ability by belting out popular cover tunes over instrumentals she found on YouTube and eventually started posting videos.
Halfway through 6th grade, she left and started Cyber School so she could spend more time focusing on her art. “It’s a lot harder than people think because you have to set boundaries for yourself,” assures the blue-eyed, blue-haired beauty. “As a child it’s hard to do that. Mondays I would do all of my work for the rest of the week and then sing all day while my parents were gone.”
Eager to learn guitar, she began cleaning houses with her mom until she had enough money to buy her first axe. As fate would have it, one of her mom’s clients, Tom Danaher, happened to reconstruct guitars for Fleetwood Mac and The Who. Impressed by the talented pre-teen’s strong work ethic and sheer ambition, Danaher offered to give Jaira weekly lessons for free.
“That’s when the hunger set in for me to learn and sponge in everything – with this man,” she explains. “He was just so knowledgeable. I really learned how to play guitar, build guitars and fix guitars as well, because he taught me that craft.”
When Jaira was 13, she met local up-and-coming producer, Ryan M. Tedder aka Ryghteous Ryan, through an attorney they both knew. A self-taught musician just eight years her senior, Ryan had already gotten placements with Wiz Khalifa (“Red Carpet”) and Neyo (“Me And You” w/ Kandi Burrus) and was actively looking for new artists to work with under his Upscale Music Group banner.
“I played Rihanna’s ‘Man Down’ on my guitar and sang,” recalls Jaira. “Ryan said immediately, ‘You’re amazing. We need to work.’” A week later, they recorded the teenage love song, “SMH,” at Pittsburgh’s famed ID Labs Studios. “It wasn’t the first time I had a microphone in my hand, but it was my first time in a studio. The session went smoothly and by the time we were done, I knew Ryan and I were meant to go on this journey together. I still get butterflies every time we go into the studio.”
The pair, now inseparable, continued developing, writing and recording together for the next few years. They quietly released an untitled, experimental, 5-song EP in 2014, which was shopped to a few indie labels on the East Coast. “It was beautiful, honestly, but it wasn’t me,” Jaira admits.

Ai Weiwei: It’s always the others

Starting in September at the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is taking over the whole of the Palais de Rumine with more than 30 often monumental works.

Recent and monumental pieces : Ai Weiwei, one of the most significant and influential artists of the last decade, is back in Switzerland. After his very first European solo show at the Bern Kunsthalle in 2004, the Chinese artist has once again accepted an invitation from Bernard Fibicher, director of the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne (mcb-a). For this exhibition – the last at mcb-a on its present site, before the move to PLATFORME 10 – Ai Weiwei is throwing a party, with works spilling out of the exhibition rooms into the Palais de Rumine’s public spaces and the museums of archaeology and history, zoology, geology and numismatics.

From 22 September 2017 to 28 January 2018, the exhibition Ai Weiwei: It’s Always the Others will bring together more than 30 works dating from 1995 to the present in the majestic rooms of the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts – as well as in all the Palais de Rumine’s other museums. The Zoology Museum, for example, will be hosting a dragon 50 metres long, suspended over visitors’ heads. Monumental in scale but subtle in its use of silk and bamboo, this installation has only been shown once before, in the New Industries Building, a disused warehouse that once served as a workshop for prisoners in Alcatraz. The traditional symbol of Chinese imperial power, the dragon as appropriated by Ai Weiwei becomes a sign of personal freedom. The individual kites making up its body carry quotes from imprisoned or forcibly exiled political activists including Nelson Mandela, Edward Snowden – and Ai Weiwei.

Works in porcelain, wood, aluminium, marble, jade, glass, bamboo and silk, together with wallpaper, photographs, videos and a film, testify to the rich variety of Ai Weiwei’s oeuvre and his profound knowledge of his country’s cultural tradition. At the same time, however – and here we detect a spirit akin to that of Marcel Duchamp – in a playful or iconoclastic way he rechannels his traditional motifs, methods and materials into a critique, overt or covert, of the Chinese political system. His most recent works bear on the troubling complexity of international issues including economic dependency and refugee flows. This exhibition at the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne hails a true all-rounder: a remarkable visual artist, an encyclopaedic mind, a gifted transmitter of ideas and a man coming to grips with the world’s major problems. Ai Weiwei may well be the first truly “global” artist.

One of the show’s most spectacular works is the vast field of handpainted porcelain sunflower seeds that provide its Sunflower Seeds title. Ai Weiwei had 100 million of them made – 150 tonnes – by 1600 men and women workers in the factories of Jingdezhen in China, and 10 tonnes will be spread over mcb-a’s biggest room. China’s favourite nibble during the Cultural Revolution, sunflower seeds had a universally obvious symbolic value: like sunflower plants, the citizens of the People’s Republic of China were turning their heads towards their sun, Mao Zedong. The ironic implications of this installation lie in the way it was made, at the opposite pole from “Made in China” mass production: each seed is hand-painted and thus unique, and the political message is unambiguous.

Learn More about McPherson Wines

The McPherson family has been a part of Texas grape growing and winemaking for over 40 years. McPherson Cellars was created to honor Winemaker Kim McPherson’s father Dr. Clinton “Doc” McPherson, a founder and pioneer of the modern Texas wine industry. In 1976 Doc, then a Chemistry Professor at Texas Tech University, and Bob Reed founded Llano Estacado Winery in Lubbock, one of the first post-Prohibition Texas wineries.
